Dr Justice Srem-Sai, the Deputy Attorney-General and Minister of Justice, has broken his silence on the confirmation of Raymond Archer as the substantive Executive Director of the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO).
In a Facebook post, Dr Justice Srem-Sai congratulated Raymond Archer on his confirmation, sharing a photograph of himself and Archer embracing and smiling at an event.
The Deputy AG accompanied the photograph with the caption: “Congratulations on your confirmation, brother.”
Dr Justice Srem-Sai’s post comes on the heels of Raymond Archer officially being confirmed as the substantive Executive Director of the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO), with his appointment taking effect on October 27, 2026.
According to reports, Raymond Archer’s confirmation was announced by EOCO Board Chairman Daniel Domelevo, who disclosed that Mr Archer formally assumed the position on the effective date.
Mr Archer has been leading the state investigative agency in an acting capacity since August 2025, when he was appointed to replace former Executive Director Abdulai Bashiru Dapilah.
His confirmation marks the formalisation of his leadership of an institution mandated to investigate and prosecute economic and organised crimes in Ghana. E
Mr Archer, as the substantive head of the office, is expected to build on ongoing efforts to strengthen EOCO’s operations and improve its capacity to address financial crimes and other threats to the country’s economic interests.
Raymond Archer, who previously worked as an investigative journalist, has attracted both praise and criticism during his time at the helm of the office.
While some Ghanaians have commended his approach to the agency’s work, others have raised concerns about what they describe as high-handedness in certain aspects of its operations.
Raymond Archer’s confirmation comes as attention remains focused on EOCO’s performance in tackling economic and organised crime and its role in safeguarding Ghana’s financial system.
Meanwhile, Afia Pokua, popularly known as Vim Lady, a Ghanaian media personality, has said the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) led by Raymond Archer is becoming a big embarrassment to Ghana.
According to Afia Pokua, the ongoing investigation into Manhyia South Member of Parliament, Nana Agyei Baffour Awuah, by EOCO clearly shows there is a political witch-hunt against the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP).
Afia Pokua questioned the way in which EOCO is handling the investigation, stressing that the development could set a worrying precedent for future governments.
The Ghanaian media personality warned that a change in government could result in similar actions being taken against political opponents.
According to Afia Pokua, the pace and approach of the investigations under the John Mahama government are creating an embarrassment for Ghana.
Afia Pokua stressed that EOCO’s activities are giving the impression that members of the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) are being deliberately witch-hunted.
In a video shared on TikTok, Afia Pokua stated, “The rate that the EOCO is going, it is becoming a big embarrassment to Ghana, and it is becoming so obvious that we have something to hide”.
“And I am pained that if the NPP comes to power, they will do worse because the government has made it so obvious that there is a witch-hunting going on. It is becoming so obvious that the government is witch-hunting NPP people, because Baffour Awuah is one of the unproblematic members of parliament, and he is new. Before EOCO said it was an invitation, but today they have exposed themselves saying it is an arrest,” she added.
Afia Pokua’s comments come on the heels of attention surrounding EOCO’s investigation into Baffour Awuah, a senior partner of the law firm Sarkodie, Baffour Awuah and Partners.
