Dr Matilda Amissah, acting as administratrix of the estate of her late brother, Charles Amissah, is seeking GH¢20 million in damages, alleging negligence across multiple health facilities led to his death at the High Court in Accra over the February 2026 incident.

The Ghana Police Hospital, Greater Accra Regional Hospital, Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital, several doctors and nurses attached to the facilities, as well as the Attorney General’s Department, have all been named in the suit.

According to the statement of claim filed before the High Court, Charles Henry Amissah was involved in a hit-and-run accident on the Kwame Nkrumah Circle Overpass at about 10:30 p.m. on February 6, 2026.

It added that after Amissah failed to return home, relatives reported him missing at the Adentan Police Station. Four days later, the family was contacted by officers at the Nima Police Station and informed that an accident victim.

She further told the court that upon arrival at the hospital mortuary, the family found the body in a decomposing state outside the cold room, infested with maggots.

“The plaintiff argues that her brother remained alive for more than two hours while being moved between hospitals and could have survived if emergency interventions had been administered promptly”, reports stated.

The Court documents cite the post-mortem findings as deep laceration injuries to the right upper arm, severe blood loss, fractures and trauma-related complications resulting from exsanguination.

The sister of the deceased is accusing the “hospitals and medical personnel of negligence, including failure to provide emergency triage, failure to stabilise the patient, failure to conduct vital assessments and failure to prioritise urgent care despite the severity of his condition”.

In related news, the committee set up to investigate the death of Charles Amissah has revealed that he died from a slow death from medical neglect.

According to a three-member committee set up to probe the death of hit-and-run victim Charles Amissah did not die from an instant trauma.

The committee disclosed that failure by the medical staff at the Police hospital, Greater Accra Regional Hospital, and the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital led to the death of the 29-year-old engineer on February 6.

Presenting its findings on Wednesday, May 6, 2026, Professor Agyeman Badu Akosa, the chair of the committee, said the case reflected a breakdown in emergency triage systems across the facilities involved.

“The pathology confirms that this was a slow death from medical neglect and not from the instant trauma. What it means is that if at any of these facilities there had been medical intervention, Charles Amissah would have survived,” the committee stated.

It will be recalled that for close to three hours on February 6, 2026, Charles Amissah, the victim, was denied treatment by Ridge, Police, and Korle Bu hospitals before passing away.

He was later identified as 29-year-old Charles Amissah, an engineer working at Promasidor Ghana Limited, producers of Cowbell milk and other food products.
