The party’s General Secretary, Justin Kodua Frimpong, disclosed this during a press briefing on Thursday, October 29, 2026, where he outlined the arrangements for selecting parliamentary candidates for the next general elections.

Under the NPP new procedure, interested party members must access the online portal, choose the constituency they intend to contest and complete the declaration of interest process by paying the required GH¢5,000 fee.

Justin Kodua Frimpong explained that the new arrangement forms part of efforts to prepare prospective candidates for the demands of parliamentary leadership.

According to him, the party intends to subject aspirants to rigorous training and capacity-building programmes to equip them with the necessary skills and knowledge ahead of the 2028 elections.

He, however disclosedd that the declaration of interest process will serve as the first stage in the NPP’s preparations to select parliamentary candidates for the upcoming general elections.

Speaking during a press briefing on Thursday, October 29, 2026, Justin Kodua Frimpong stated, “This time around, the party has decided to come out with a new process in selecting our parliamentary candidates. In kick-starting our parliamentary selection processes, the party has introduced what we refer to as expressing or declaration of interest or intent by prospective parliamentary aspirants.

“What this simply means is that the party will, from 1st November to 10th November, open our portal for any interested person who wants to be nominated to stand on the ticket of the New Patriotic Party to declare his or her interest through our portal.

“The party is just asking you to declare your intention by going to our portal to apply. After you’ve made the application, it comes with a fee of GH¢5,000,” he said.

He, however, disclosed that the declaration-of-interest process did not constitute the formal opening of nominations but marked the first step towards that stage of the parliamentary candidate selection process.

“We have still not opened nominations, and we have still not asked people to go around to campaign. This is just a first step towards the process of opening nominations. The party is just asking you to declare your intention by going to our portal to apply,” he said.

In related news, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, the leader and presidential candidate of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), has said the party will soon hold its parliamentary elections.

According to Dr Bawumia, the NPP intends to complete its internal elections as early as possible ahead of the 2028 polls.

He revealed that the process would begin with parliamentary constituency elections, including engagements with sitting Members of Parliament.

Speaking to some party executives on Sunday, October 4, Dr Bawumia stated, “We are going to also be looking to try to have our parliamentary elections as soon as possible, so that the NPP will be done with internal elections, starting with the orphan constituencies”.

The NPP presidential candidate also disclosed that the party has begun scouting for potential parliamentary candidates across constituencies ahead of the 2028 general elections.

According to Dr Bawumia, the NPP plans to identify candidates with the potential to win parliamentary seats, rather than just winning the internal primaries.

He argued that some NPP aspirants may have the financial resources to win an NPP parliamentary primary but may not necessarily be capable of winning in the general election.

Dr Bawumia added, “We are going to do a candidate search across all the constituencies, because some people can win parliamentary primaries because they have money, but they can’t win the general elections”.

“If you leave it to them, they will win the primary, but you’ve lost the seat,” he said.

“Candidate search is going on, and we’re going to have more than one candidate search from independent sources. And we’ll compare what they are saying,” he said.

“Because if we find out that this is the person who can win us the seat, we’ll persuade that person to come on board and help us to win the seat,” he added.

Dr Bawumia further added that the party would seek to make the process as transparent as possible.
