According to Dr Bawumia, the NPP intends to complete its internal elections as early as possible ahead of the 2028 polls.

He revealed that the process would begin with parliamentary constituency elections, including engagements with sitting Members of Parliament.

Speaking to some party executives on Sunday, October 4, Dr Bawumia stated, “We are going to also be looking to try to have our parliamentary elections as soon as possible, so that the NPP will be done with internal elections, starting with the orphan constituencies”.

The NPP presidential candidate also disclosed that the party has begun scouting for potential parliamentary candidates across constituencies ahead of the 2028 general elections.

According to Dr Bawumia, the NPP plans to identify candidates with the potential to win parliamentary seats, rather than just winning the internal primaries.

He argued that some NPP aspirants may have the financial resources to win an NPP parliamentary primary but may not necessarily be capable of winning in the general election.

Dr Bawumia added, “We are going to do a candidate search across all the constituencies, because some people can win parliamentary primaries because they have money, but they can’t win the general elections”.

“If you leave it to them, they will win the primary, but you’ve lost the seat,” he said.

“Candidate search is going on, and we’re going to have more than one candidate search from independent sources. And we’ll compare what they are saying,” he said.

“Because if we find out that this is the person who can win us the seat, we’ll persuade that person to come on board and help us to win the seat,” he added.

Dr Bawumia further added that the party would seek to make the process as transparent as possible.

Meanwhile, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia has called for all factions that emerged during the party’s internal elections to dissolve and unite as one camp ahead of the 2028 elections.

The NPP flagbearer stressed that the internal elections were over, with focus now shifting to rebuilding the party and preparing for the next national election.

According to Dr Bawumia, unity would be critical to the party’s efforts to regain power, urging all members and supporters to put their differences behind them and work together.

Speaking after the swearing-in of the newly elected national executives of the party on October 4, Dr Bawumia stated, “Elections are over. All the camps will dissolve, and let us have one NPP camp and go and win 2028”.

“Let us all understand that winning 2028 is about unity. Unity in this party will give us victory. Let us come together to work,” he said.

He further encouraged candidates who lost national executive elections not to see themselves as defeated.

Bawumia stated, “ You did not lose. The NPP won”.

“There is no time to waste. Day one, this week, by the grace of God, we should all meet and begin the process of getting to the 2028 election,” he said.

“We must work harder. And let us all start this week by meeting and putting our strategies together to capture power in 2028,” he said.

His comment follows, the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) on October 3, 2026, elected a new crop of national executives to oversee the party’s affairs following its National Delegates Conference.

Over  7,000 delegates from across the country participated in the conference at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium in Kumasi.
