Saddick Adams, a veteran sports journalist and broadcaster with Angel TV, has reacted to the tragic deaths of six young Ghanaians at EL-Wak during the Ghana Armed Forces recruitment exercise.
According to Saddick Adams, Ghana’s system is designed to intentionally stress out the ordinary citizen.
In a post on social media following the tragic incident, Saddick Adams wrote, “The system is designed to intentionally stress the hell out of the ordinary citizen from the day he is conceived to the day of death. Even corpses aren’t spared.
This country’s system will stress you at every phase of your life”.
Some Ghanaians reacting to Saddick Adams’ comments stated, “Facts. But I do believe every system, no matter how compact, has a loophole. You just need to sit back, use your head and figure it out. You’ll suffer for some time, though, but the end result will be worth it. Rushing for quick ones like this will always result in bloodshed. Don’t misconstrue me, I’m not saying you should steal or defraud people.
“And you have leaders who expect change to be expected from protecting these systems with their lives because it’s beneficial to them that way, or because they went through the same. Smh”, another netizen added.
One more X user added, “Life in such a system wears on the soul, but endurance becomes a quiet strength. Even when everything seems against you, surviving and moving forward is a testament to resilience and hope”.
Another netizen added, “Hmmmm, say that again. Deliberately to stress the hell out of us, and at the end, one is not recruited. I remember 2021. The struggle is real for the ordinary”.
Additionally, another X user added, “Meanwhile, to serve in the military of other countries, it’s an honour. No stress like this. There’s already a protocol list there, and those on the list are sleeping at home. Those without connections are left to rot. Posterity!!!”
“Honestly, in this country, it sometimes feels like certain things are done without proper consideration. Based on the information and the scheduled date of the exercise, it’s clear that many people have applied, so a large turnout is expected”, a netizen added.
Meanwhile, the Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) has confirmed six people have died in the ongoing military recruitment at the El-Wak Stadium.
Reports suggest the chaos occurred around 6:20 a.m. when applicants breached security protocols.
According to GAF, 28 people were taken to the 37 Military Hospital.
They further revealed that six people have died, with five in the ICU and another 12 in critical condition.
Also, Alban Sumana Kingsford Bagbin, the Speaker of Parliament, has donated GH¢100,000 to support the medical treatment of victims injured in the El-Wak Sports Stadium stampede.
Speaker Bagbin, accompanied by the leadership of Parliament, visited the victims at the 37 Military Hospital on Thursday.
He commiserates with the injured and their families.
