Martin Kpebu, a Private legal practitioner, has said he will take up a public office in the near future.
Mr Kpebu highlighted that while he expects to be appointed to public service in due course, the OSP is not a position he dreams of.
Speaking on JoyNews’ Newsfile on Saturday, 6th December, he stated, “That is not the office I have dreamt about; it is clear that some day I will go into public office, it is very clear to me now, but not Special Prosecutor”.
He further added that he cannot be seeking to substitute Kissi Agyebeng when he is the one leading the charge for his removal as Special Prosecutor.
“Having led the charge in calling for him (Kissi Agyebeng) to go, I should not be the one to replace him,” he said.
Also, Mr Kpebu had said he would gladly accept the Special Prosecutor as he would be a perfect fit for the role; however, the ongoing tension with Kissi Agyebeng would create the perception that he orchestrated his removal to take the role for himself.
Speaking on Asempa FM’s Ekosiisen on Thursday, December 4, 2025, Kpebu stated, “Ideally, if not because of the fight between Kissi Agyebeng and me, I would have gladly
accepted to be the SP, but people would think I asked for his removal so that I can take charge.”
He added, “I would have been a perfect fit for the position if the president thought so and Ghanaians agreed.”
His comments come on the back of his release from the custody of the officer of the Special Prosecutor’s Office (OSP).
Speaking to TV3 shortly after his release, Lawyer Kpebu stated, “I know I have not done anything wrong, so I knew I would be released”.
He revealed that his arrest stemmed from a verbal confrontation with a military officer stationed at the OSP.
Mr Kpebu recounted, “Then the next thing, the soldier said I am stupid, so I also turned and said he is also stupid, and so we exchanged words”.
“I know I have not done anything wrong, so I knew I would be released,” he stated.
“Then a colleague of his, another soldier, shouted that next time I do that, I will see. In Ghanaian English, ‘you will see’ means he will cause me some harm, or there will be consequences, even if not physical.
So I turned and gave the same answer; he had no right. I’m not a suspect, and even if I was, could he do that? So I said he had no right”.
“Then the next thing I knew, he said I’m stupid. That’s what the soldier said. So I turned back and told him he is also stupid. We exchanged a few words, and then one of my lawyers pulled me so we could go in,” he added, stating he would never attack any officer who had done nothing to him.
He added that his arrest confirms that Kissi Agyebeng is incompetent.
“I will petition for his removal. I have 15 allegations against him,” he once again revealed.
“What they have actually done is that this is a suicide mission that Kissi Agyebeng’s OSP has embarked on. He can pretend he has nothing to do with it, but he is the head,” Kpebu stated.
