A devastating fire outbreak at Abuakwa Manhyia in the Atwima Nwabiagya South Municipality of the Ashanti Region has claimed the lives of six people.

The tragic incident killed six people, including a 3-month-old baby, at a residential apartment.

According to reports, all the deceased were female, including a three-month-old infant.

Reports suggest the tragic incident occurred around 12:30 a.m. on Monday, December 22, 2025.

Evans Opoku, the Assembly Member for Abuakwa Manhyia, revealed the incident happened shortly after power was restored to parts of the Ashanti Region following a temporary outage on Sunday evening.

Personnel of the Ghana National Fire Service from Nkawie and Twedie Fire stations were dispatched to the scene to help fight the devastating blaze.

According to reports, the victims were, however, trapped in the apartment at the time of the fire, which led to their deaths.

The Ghana Police Service, in the meantime have identified the burnt bodies and is making arrangements to convey the bodies to the morgue as investigations into the tragic incident continue.

Meanwhile, the exact cause of the incident is yet to be established at the time of publication.

In related fire news, a Wesley Grammar School bus, some weeks ago, carrying 83 students, caught fire.

Reports suggest the bus carrying students of Wesley Grammar School caught fire at the Kasoa Tollbooth on Friday, November 28.

All 83 students and five teachers on board at the time of the incident managed to escape.

Sports Teacher Richard Boafo, who was on board accompanying the students to Ngleshie Amanfro Senior High School for a sporting event, revealed everyone on board was able to evacuate safely with no injuries.

Speaking to Citi News on Friday, Sports Teacher Richard Boafo stated, “We noticed smoke coming out of the bus, so we asked all the students to move out immediately. Fortunately, all 83 students and five teachers on board escaped safely, but the bus was completely burnt to ashes.”

In related fire news, a video has been shared on social media of a tragic moment a mother told firefighters of the Ghana National Fire Service that her daughter was still trapped in the Dansoman fire.

In the 36-second video shared the mother, who was willing to go get her daughter in the blazing fire, was asked where she was heading, and she stated, “My child is inside”.
