A constituency executive of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the Awutu Senya East Constituency has accused the member of parliament in the area, Naa Koryoo Okunor, of giving a World Cup ticket meant for NDC constituency chairman to her husband.

According to the NDC executive, identified as Kobby, the MP has sidelined the constituency chairman in the allocation of opportunities provided by the Presidency.

He claimed that the Presidency allocated travel slots to constituency chairpersons to enable them to attend FIFA World Cup matches, but the slot given to the Awutu Senya East chairman was allegedly redirected.

Speaking during an interview on Obaatanpa Radio, the NDC constituency executive alleged, “There have been several slots allocated to the constituency, with the latest being the World Cup travel slot. I am a constituency executive member, but I was not given one. None of the members at my branch received a slot”.

“The Presidency gave one slot to every constituency chairman to enable them to travel and watch the World Cup matches. It further directed all MPs to collect the passport documents of the constituency chairmen and submit them to the government for processing”, he stated.

He further added, “Because of the hatred they have for Chairman Agyare, they failed to submit his passport documents, which are currently lying idle at the MP’s house”.

“Today, we have seen videos of her husband watching the World Cup. She gave the slot to her husband, Yussif, who has travelled to watch the World Cup,” he alleged.

Kobby also claimed that several constituency executives were excluded, “I have served the party faithfully, yet I was not given the opportunity. The chairman was also denied the chance, while other MPs ensured that their constituency chairmen had their documents processed on time,” he said.

He revealed that the chairman personally submitted his passport after being contacted by the MP, but the process was never completed.

“The MP called the chairman to submit his passport, which he did. However, she failed to submit it. Whether that was the doing of Yussif, I cannot tell.

What kind of hatred would drive someone to do this to the chairman and deny him such an opportunity? We want to know what wrongdoing the chairman has committed to deserve this treatment”, he added.

Meanwhile, the  Majority Caucus in Parliament has refuted claims made by the Minority in Parliament, suggesting its members were allocated special travel privileges, including two slots each, to attend the ongoing 2026 FIFA World Cup.

The NDC Majority describe the claims as misleading and capable of creating unnecessary tension in the House.

According to Rockson-Nelson Dafeamekpor, the government is not financing or allocating travel slots to individual Members of Parliament.

Speaking on the floor of Parliament on Wednesday, June 17, the Majority Chief Whip, Rockson-Nelson Dafeamekpor, stated, “Nobody was given two slots. The government announced that they were not sponsoring anybody apart from the established national supporters’ union to the World Cup.

“MPs have not been given slots, and so when you sit here and say those things, you are aggravating disorder in the House. How do you stand on the Floor of Parliament and be insinuating that slots were given but we kept them for ourselves?”
