The younger brother of former Dome-Kwabenya Member of Parliament, Sarah Adwoa Safo, Israel Kwadwo Safo and eight others have been granted bail by the court.

The nine individuals were accused in connection with the shooting incident involving Sarah Adwoa Safo.

In court, the nine bail in the sum of GH¢500,000 each with two sureties are not required to be justified, but must sign a bail justification.

All nine accused in court pleaded not guilty to five charges, including use of an offensive weapon, possession of an offensive weapon, prohibition of vigilante groups, discharging of firearms in public, and causing unlawful damage.

The accused include Nana Kwadwo Safo Akofena, the brother of the injured former MP, along with Jehosaphat Tamaklo Safo, Kwabena Safo, and Benjamin Amoakwa Sam.

Enock Badu, Richard Ayitey, Gideon Safo, Nana Kwaku Afriyie, and Kwadwo Safo Koomsom are the other suspects.

According to prosecutors, the alleged shooting resulted in injuries to Ms Adwoa Safo during the installation process within the Kristo Asafo Mission.

Their bail follows the Ghana Police Service, which arrested Israel Kwadwo Safo (alias Akofena) and two others over the alleged shooting of his sister, former Dome-Kwabenya MP Sarah Adwoa Safo, in Kwabenya.

According to the Police, the suspect voluntarily reported himself to the Regional Police Headquarters on June 22, 2026 and was transferred to the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) Headquarters to assist with investigations.

The Police disclosed that a search conducted at his residence and vehicle in Kwabenya reportedly led to the retrieval of seized weapons & over 190 rounds of ammunition during searches.

The Police, in a statement issued, read, “POLICE ARREST ISRAEL KWADWO SAFO AKOFENA AND TWO OTHERS IN CONNECTION WITH SHOOTING INCIDENT

The Ghana Police Service has arrested Israel Kwadwo Safo, also known as Akofena, in connection with the shooting incident involving former Member of Parliament for Dome-Kwabenya, Hon. Sarah Adwoa Safo, on 21st June 2026.

The suspect reported himself to the Regional Police Headquarters on 22nd June 2026 and was subsequently handed over to the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) Headquarters to assist ongoing investigations into the incident.

A search conducted on his vehicle and at his residence at Kwabenya led to the retrieval of 120 rounds of 9mm ammunition, 50 rounds of 45 calibre ammunition, 25 rounds of 40 calibre ammunition, additional loaded magazines, and two Glock pistols; one of which is registered.

Further investigations also led to the arrest of two additional suspects, Nana Kwaku Afriyie and Kwadwo Safo Koomson, in connection with the case.

All the suspects are currently in Police custody, assisting with investigations and will be put before the court on 23rd June 2026”.

Earlier, the Police announced the arrest of six private security guards arrested in connection with the shooting incident involving former Dome-Kwabenya Member of Parliament, Sarah Adwoa Safo.

According to the Police, they retrieved five pump-action guns, one Taurus pistol and a magazine.

The Ghana Police Service statement issued read, “The Ghana Police Service has arrested six private security guards in connection with the shooting incident involving Hon. Sarah Adwoa Safo, which occurred at Kwabenya on 21st June 2026

Subsequently, a search conducted has led to the retrieval of five pump-action guns, one Taurus pistol loaded with seven rounds of 9mm ammunition, an additional magazine loaded with five rounds of 9mm ammunition, and communication equipment.

Preliminary investigations indicate that Police personnel from the National Operations Directorate and the Intelligence Directorate, who were on special duty, received a distress call from a residence at Kwabenya and proceeded to the scene.

Upon arrival, it was established that a ceremony was being held at the residence of Mr Tamakloe Safo Jehoshaphat alias Akofena when Hon. Adwoa Safo reportedly arrived and requested access to the premises but was denied entry.

Police investigations further revealed that armed security personnel at the residence allegedly discharged firearms during the incident, resulting in the injury to Hon. Adwoa Safo. Her vehicle was also found with multiple gunshot marks.

The suspects and exhibits have been transferred to the Police Headquarters to assist ongoing investigations.

Investigations are ongoing to locate and arrest all other persons connected with the incident”.
