According to the TikToker, it is not even about the fact that Accra is underdeveloped, but one does not get value for what they pay for.

She disclosed that prices in Accra are so outrageous, from housing, accommodation, transportation and food.

Speaking in a viral video shared on TiKTok, Rosie Mensah, reacting to an X post, which questioned why Accra is too underdeveloped to be so expensive, stated, “ I came across this post on Instagram the other day which basically says Accra is too underdeveloped to be so expensive. As someone living in Accra for the past seven months, I agree.

Not even for the fact of being underdeveloped, so just not getting value for what you pay, and I felt this since the beginning”.

She added,  “What you pay for is not what you get, and the cost for things is outrageous, from housing, accommodation, transportation and food. The prices don’t make sense from what you are getting.

You are paying in USD in places where there are no sidewalks; even when we do have sidewalks, there are big holes in them or no consistent water, or consistent electricity, but you are paying so much.

For the average Ghanaian earning in cedis just to be able to afford daily live I just don’t understand why it is so expensive. What is the reason?”.

She further disclosed that she has seen the argument claiming the diaspora are to blame for the price increase.

The netizen argued, “I don’t necessarily agree with that because at the end of the day people are making decisions on how they want to price things. I don’t think it thr fault of diasporans. Over raw Accra is too expensive for what you are getting”.

Some netizens reacting to her remarks stated, “Accra has electrical issues, poor customer service, and bad infrastructure”.

“The answer is simple. IT’S GREED. The overpricing stems from greed, where everybody wants to be rich overnight, and they think overpricing is the way to get there”, one TikToker added.

A netizen added, “We have houses in Accra costing near a million dollars but the emergency service isn’t working. Lol”.

One TikToker added, “Accra is not New York, but the pricing strategy is like that of New York. Rent prices are too extreme”.

In related news, Massimiliano Colasuonno Taricone, the Consul of Ghana to Italy and Trasacco Boss, has raised an alarm concerning the housing and rent prices in Ghana’s capital, Greater Accra.

According to the Trasacco Boss, Accra has a very high percentage of wealthy Ghanaians, who even own multiple properties, but keep them empty rather than rent them out at controlled prices.

He admitted that House and rent prices have spiralled out of control in Ghana’s capital, the Greater Accra.

The Trasacco Boss added that House and rent prices are a bubble that’s about to burst.

Massimiliano Colasuonno Taricone argued that in a post on X, the Trasacco Boss stated, “House and rent prices have spiralled out of control; it’s a bubble that’s about to burst. But it’s absolutely not true that Ghanaians are out.

Unlike many European cities, like London, where out-of-control prices have pushed locals out of the city, Accra has a very high percentage of wealthy Ghanaians, who even own multi-property properties that they keep empty rather than rent them out at controlled prices”.
