The Ghana Bar Association (GBA) Spokesperson, Saviour Kudze, has slammed the Minority Leader, Alexander Afenyo-Markin, following his comments against Circuit Court judge handling the case involving Bono Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party, Kwame Baffoe, popularly known as Abronye DC.
According to the GBA, Alexander Afenyo-Markin acted very unprofessionally and unethically.
The GBA spokesperson further described his actions as unpalatable, unbecoming of a senior lawyer of his standing at the Bar.
Speaking on the matter, GBA Spokesperson Saviour Kudze stated, “It is very unpalatable, unbecoming of a senior lawyer of his standing at the Bar, particularly so a senior lawyer who is privileged enough to be the Minority Leader of the Parliament of the Republic of Ghana, a lawyer who I am told is also a chief. Is this the kind of example he wants to give his constituents?”
“As a lawyer, if his complaint is that a judge has acted in a way according to him not within the ambit of the law, this is not the way I think that he should go, especially somebody like him,” he said.
He added, “My thinking is that the appellate system is not there for fun. If the judge didn’t act within his jurisdiction, he knew what to do. He shouldn’t go to the press, not at all.”
“We are disappointed, and he has acted very unprofessionally and unethically because, per our etiquette rules, we don’t do things like this by attacking the qualifications or competence of a judge,” Kudze added.
Meanwhile, Felix Kwakye Ofosu, the Minister of State in charge of Government Communications, had earlier accused the Ghana Bar Association (GBA) of showing political bias.
He stressed that an NPP lawyer, Afenyo-Markin, has abused a judge, but the GBA have loudly been silent, arguing that they would have responded quickly to far less offensive commentary by non-NPP members.
In a post shared on Facebook on Monday, May 18, 2026, Kwakye Ofosu wrote, “I have long dismissed the Ghana Bar Association as an NPP grouping.
If it were not so, the intolerable abuse of this Judge by the Minority Leader would have elicited an immediate, uncompromising response.
They have been known to respond quickly to far less offensive commentary by non-NPP members.
Alas, one of their own, an NPP lawyer, has abused a judge, so they have been loudly silent.
What insufferable duplicity!”.
His comments follow the Minority Leader and Member of Parliament (MP) launching yet another attack on a judge, this time around the circuit court judge handling the case of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) Bono Regional Chairman, Kwame Baffoe, commonly known as Abronye DC.
The minority leader, speaking at a press briefing on May 17, 2026, fired shots at the circuit court judge, alleging that he doubts whether the judge passed his law exams.
According to Afenyo-Markin, he will continue to disrespect the circuit court judge until he upholds the law, alleging that the judge has no respect for his own judicial oath.
Speaking at a press briefing on May 17, 2026, Afenyo-Markin stated, “That judge has no respect for his own judicial oath. I don’t think he read the law. That circuit court judge called Niger. I have no respect for him. For a judge to say that he’s remanding him into BNI custody until the case is finally determined, such a judge can never have my respect.
“I pray that he summons me for contempt. I will continue to disrespect him until he upholds the law. He’s gone beyond his judicial function, and it is not his first time. It’s as if he has been selected purposely to achieve this. He doesn’t talk law. I don’t know whether he ever passed his law exams. He’s a shame,” he fumed.
Afenyo-Markin added, “It’s a shame on the judiciary, and my Lord Baffoe must pay attention to this, for whatever it is, it’s about his legacy. I’m told that by December, he will be 70, and he will be gone. Is that the legacy he wants to leave after Torkornoo was booted out of office and all manner of accusations levelled against Torkornoo? Is that the judiciary?
“The judiciary, they said, they were going to reset. Is that a reset? Where a judge will say he is remanding an accused person because if he allows him to go home, if he grants him bail, he’s likely to talk again, so he should remain in custody?” he said.
The Minority leader remarks follow Kwame Baffoe, popularly known as Abronye DC, who has been rearrested today, Wednesday, May 13, 2026.
Reports suggest that Abronye has been remanded for two weeks as investigations continue into allegations of misinformation and offensive public statements.
