Alexander Kwamena Afenyo-Markin, the Minority Leader and Member of Parliament (MP) for Effutu, has withdrawn the suit he filed against the Chief Executive Officer of the National Entrepreneurship and Innovation Programme (NEIP), Eric Adjei.

According to Eric Adjei’s lawyers, the suit was withdrawn following the court’s advice.

Afenyo-Markin announced during parliamentary proceedings, “I have accordingly caused writs to be filed in Suit Number GT/1029/2026, titled Osahen Alexander Afenyo-Markin versus Samuel Adu Gyamfi and Multimedia Group Limited at the Accra High Court, and Suit Number GR/ACH/CC/C5/02/2026, titled Osahen Alexander Afenyo-Markin versus Eric Adjei and Peace FM at the Achimota Circuit Court”.

Addressing the media after court proceedings on Tuesday, October 20, 2026, Eric Adjei’s lawyers stated, “There was an initial court before the High Court in Accra, and last week we moved an application there for that suit to be set aside, and the court actually agreed with us. Now, during that hearing, the judge in that matter advised parties to try and speak and resolve these matters amicably. So, consistent with that, parties have been speaking on the matter, and that conversation has culminated in the withdrawal of the suit before the Circuit Court today.

“So, we are happy, and we are very happy that the parties’ conversations are making progress, and that we can all see today that the suit has been withdrawn. And what it means is that the parties are willing to settle this matter amicably, and that is what we are also for,” the lawyer said.

The development comes after the suit filed by the Minority Leader against the Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana Gold Board (GoldBod), Sammy Gyamfi, was thrown out by a High Court in Accra.

However, lawyers for Alexander Afenyo-Markin have revealed that their client has instructed them to pursue his GH¢15 million defamation suit against Ghana Gold Board (GoldBod) Chief Executive Officer Sammy Gyamfi to its logical conclusion.

According to the Lawyers, despite the High Court decision to set aside the case over a procedural defect, their client still insists on pursuing the suit.

On Wednesday, October 14, 2026, a statement issued by Dehyena Chambers, the legal team, revealed that they have been instructed to pursue the matter and were awaiting a copy of the court’s ruling to determine their next course of action.

The lawyer disclosed that as of 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday, the court registry had not made a copy of the ruling available to them.

“Our civil jurisprudence, including the Supreme Court authorities on non-compliance with procedural rules and Order 81 of C.I. 47, recognises that procedural irregularities are curable since equity looks at substance and not form,” the statement said.

“We will not be deterred by procedural setbacks. The Mills of Justice grind slowly, but with great surety,” the statement added. The court’s decision followed a finding that the writ of summons did not contain sufficient particulars of the alleged defamatory publication, rendering the action defective under the applicable civil procedure rules”.

Meanwhile, Austin Kwabena Brako-Powers, a Private legal practitioner, has told the Minority Leader, Alexander Afenyo-Markin, to discontinue his defamation suit against Ghana Gold Board (GoldBod) Chief Executive Officer Sammy Gyamfi.

According to Brako-Powers, he feels the case was a bait Honourable Afenyo-Markin shouldn’t have taken.

He further advised the Minority leader to discontinue his defamation suit against Sammy Gyamfi following the High Court’s decision to strike out the case.

Speaking on GBC’s Current Agenda on Saturday, October 17, 2026, Brako-Powers stated, “I feel the case was a bait Honourable Afenyo-Markin shouldn’t have taken, and for me, I would advise him to let the matter rest”.

He further argued that Afenyo-Markin should have exercised greater caution before initiating legal action.

Brako-Powers highlighted that circumstances surrounding the dispute might have been intended to provoke him into taking the matter to court.

The Private legal practitioner, however, maintained that the ruling centred on procedural requirements and should not automatically be interpreted as a determination of the substantive allegations.

He urged the Minority Leader to reconsider that position and avoid prolonging the dispute.

Brako-Powers cautioned against allowing political pressure and public exchanges to influence decisions on legal action, stressing that the matter required careful handling given the positions held by both men.

He argued that continuing the dispute could generate further political controversy.
