AG drops charges against Akonta Mining Manager, after agreeing to ‘spill the beans’ against Wontumi

NewsAG drops charges against Akonta Mining Manager, after agreeing to ‘spill the beans’ against Wontumi

The Office of the Attorney-General (AG) has dropped all charges against the Manager of Akonta Mining Company Limited, Mr Edward Akuoko.

The Attorney-General’s move comes after the Akonta Mining General Manager agreed to testify for the state in Wontumi’s Tano Nimire Forest galamsey trial.

In court, the Office of the Attorney-General filed a formal notice at the Accra High Court (Criminal Division) on Monday to drop the charges in accordance with Section 59 of the Criminal and Other Offences (Procedure) Act, 1960 (Act 30).

The formal notice was signed by  Deputy Attorney-General, Dr Justice Srem Sai.

The notice added that Edward Akuoko had been discharged from prosecution in connection with all charges brought against him.

The Manager of Akonta Mining Company Limited was facing charges alongside four: Chairman Wontumi; Operations Manager of Akonta Mining, Kwadwo Owusu Bempah; and a co-director of the company, Kwame Antwi, who, along with Bempah, is currently said to be at large.

In court last week, the Accra High Court withdrew it earlier bench warrant issued for the arrest of Wontumi.

The High Court decision comes after Wontumi showed up to court shortly after the bench warrant was issued for his arrest for not showing up to court.

The Court issued the warrant around 9:40 a.m. Wontumi and his legal team arrived after 10 a.m. and pleaded with the court for its withdrawal, which was rescinded at 11:39 a.m.

In court, Andy Appiah-Kubi, the counsel for embattled Wontumi, explained that he had informed his client to appear at 10 a.m. with the impression that proceedings were scheduled for a case management conference.

The Judge on the case cautioned Chairman Wontumi to be punctual in future appearances before rescinding the arrest order.

In related news, Prophet Samuel Henry, popularly known as Prophet Roja, has dropped a prophecy regarding Chairman Wontumi.

According to Prophet Roja, Wontumi will be jailed for 15 years if Ghanaians and his loved ones do not pray for him.

He emphasised that Wontumi has wronged someone who is now in a position of power and influence, capable of ensuring his imprisonment.

Prophet Roja emphasised that an urgent spiritual intervention is needed by  Wontumi to avert the foretold prophecy.

Speaking on Onua TV with Captain Smart, Prophet Roja stated, “If Ghanaians don’t pray for Wontumi, he would be jailed for 15 years. I am saying it on TV, his loved ones should pray for Wontumi.

It is all over the news, I am seeing that they have written the number 15, and it is on TV that they have jailed Wontumi for 15 years. He should pray hard”.

He further added, “Wontumi stepped on someone’s foot, and that person will sit with him to gain his freedom from what he is going through. There is a communication going on behind his back. If he allows God in his life, Ghanaians will come out to see what I said on the Captain Smart show. I am seeing 15, and it will not be more than that”.
