The Office of the Attorney-General has filed three criminal charges against Manhyia South MP Nana Agyei Baffour Awuah.
The AG charged the Manhyia South MP with alleged financial misconduct in his handling of a legal case involving SIC Life Savings & Loans Company Limited.
The charges against Nana Agyei Baffour Awuah were filed at the High Courtβs Specialised Jurisdiction Division in Accra on October 3, 2026,
The charges include conspiracy to commit a crime, intentionally causing financial loss to a public body and money laundering.
According to the Office of the Attorney-General charge sheet, Mr Awuah, while acting as a lawyer for SIC Life, conspired with the companyβs then Managing Director in 2024 to intentionally dissipate GHΒ’9.85 million belonging to the company.
Also, the second count alleges that he intentionally caused SIC Life to suffer a financial loss of GHΒ’9.85 million in the course of a business transaction.
Additionally, a third count alleges that Mr Awuah transferred GHΒ’1 million to the then Managing Director of SIC Life, knowing that the money had been acquired through crime and to assist the recipient to evade the legal consequences of an offence.
Earlier, Justice Srem Sai, the Deputy Attorney-General and Minister for Justice, revealed that the Member of Parliament for Manhyia South, Nana Agyei Baffour Awuah, is wanted for arrest in connection with an ongoing EOCO investigation.
According to Justice Srem Sai, Nana Agyei Baffour Awuah is wanted by EOCO in connection with a complaint of unauthorised financial transactions at SIC LIFE SAVINGS & LOANS COMPANY LTD, resulting in crimes of financial loss, dissipation of public funds, and money laundering.
The Deputy Attorney-General and Minister for Justice revealed that the Accra High Court has issued a warrant authorising EOCO to arrest the legislator, following Baffour Awuahβs alleged failure to honour invitations since February 2026.
In a statement on X on September 30, 2026, Justice Srem Sai said the arrest warrant followed Baffour Awuahβs alleged refusal to cooperate with EOCOβs criminal investigation.
He wrote, βI can confirm that the High Court has issued a warrant for the arrest of Mr AGYEI BAFFOUR AWUAH (Hon. MP), who has, since February 2026, refused to honour an EOCO criminal investigative invitation.
Mr AWUAHβs imminent arrest is part of an inquiry by EOCO into a complaint of unauthorised financial transactions at SIC LIFE SAVINGS & LOANS COMPANY LTD, resulting in crimes of financial loss, dissipation of public funds, money laundering, among othersβ.
In related news, Bernard Bediako Baidoo, some days ago, dropped more details about EOCOβs evidence against the Manhyia South MP, Nana Agyei Baffour Awuah.
According to the Akwatia MP, the recent attempts by EOCO to arrest Baffour Awuah have nothing to do with his representation of Salomey Awiti Baffoe in the Ghana Jollof case.
The Akwatia MP detailed that evidence gathered by EOCO against the Manhyia South MP includes a claim that without the knowledge of the board of SIC Life, he renegotiated a judgment the state-owned enterprise had won as a micro-credit firm, Equity Micro-Finance.
Bernard Baidoo alleged that the Manhyia South legislator, on behalf of his law firm, represented SIC Life in its case against Equity after the private company could not pay back a loan of GHΒ’6 million.
Speaking in an interview on Accra FM after the suit, on Monday, September 28, 2026, the Akwatia MP detailed, βWhen he was going to court, SIC gave him GHΒ’280,000. The court awarded a judgment in favour of SIC for the sale of the microfinance companyβs property, which was worth GHΒ’25 million. The auctioneer the court appointed to sell the property had even gotten a buyer, and the deal was almost done.
βAll of a sudden, another company called Eco Swiss came into the frame claiming that Equity Micro Finance had sold the said property (a land) to them long agoβ¦ The matter went to court, and before the court could even determine the true owner of the land, Baffour Awuah went to settle the matter of the state entity. As we speak, this is no board decision which permitted him to do that,β the Akwatia legislator said.
He further alleged that evidence from EOCO also showed that Baffour Awuah was paid by all three companies involved in the matter β SIC Life, Eco Swiss and Equity β although he was supposed to be a lawyer for the state-owned company.
βHe settled with Eco Swiss for them to pay GHΒ’5 million for that loan facility whose principal was even GHΒ’6 million for the matter to die. These are things Baffour Awuah signed as a solicitor. But as a solicitor, he has to prove here that he got the authority to renegotiate a judgment of GHΒ’14 million.
βAfter this, Eco Swiss gave Baffour Awuah GHΒ’2.2 million. What was this for? You were not their lawyerβ¦ All of these are from EOCO documents. As if this was not enough, the people from Equity also gave him over GHΒ’600,000,β he said.
