Julius Kwame Anthony is the National Democratic Congress (NDC) Deputy Communications Director, has shockingly stated that former President Akufo-Addo is a drug addict.
According to Julius Kwame Anthony, the NPP allowed a drug addict on their ticket who eventually became president of Ghana.
Speaking on Good Morning Ghana, Julius Kwame Anthony stated, “The person who became president on the ticket of your party was a drug addict dealing in the same illicit drug”.
His comment immediately drew a strong reaction from fellow panellist Kwesi Botchway, who questioned why the allegation was allowed to go unchallenged on the television programme.
Expressing his displeasure, Botchway said the NDC communicator’s remarks were inappropriate for a platform such as Good Morning Ghana.
Kwesi Botchway stated, “So you allow that to go? Did you hear what he said, that the former president is a drug addict? You allow that to go on an august platform like Good Morning Ghana?”.
The claim about the former President’s alleged involvement with illicit drugs was an allegation made by Anthony and was not established by the comments provided.
However, Anthony’s remarks have ignited reactions on social media with netizens saying, “A typical Ghanaian attitude: they know apologies exist, so they do whatever they want and simply apologise afterwards”.
A netizen, “@metrotvgh you guys allowed this on national television and because your host has sold his sense of reasoning to a political party he couldn’t call the stupid boy to order”.
“This fool called Akufo Addo a drug addict on TV and the host allowed it to pass?”, one X user added.
Another X user added, “So every day NDC and NPP will continue to speak foolishly; we have stupid journalists always given a platform to these useless guys to insult elderly people in the name of politics. As a journalist, you are asking the panel what the opponent said?”
One last X user claimed, “It is a KNOWN FACT.

In related news, some weeks ago, Julius Kwame Anthony was appointed by the National Democratic Congress (NDC) as the Deputy Communications Director of the party.
The development follows approval from the NDC’s Functional Executive Committee (FEC) at its meeting on Tuesday, October 13, 2026.
The party disclosed that the appointment is part of efforts to strengthen its communications machinery, enhance public engagement and effectively articulate the policies, programmes and achievements of the NDC-led government.
The NDC also expressed confidence that Anthony would bring dedication, professionalism and a strong sense of responsibility to the role.
In a social media post, Julius Kwame Anthony, in his appreciation message, wrote, “I wish to express my profound gratitude to the Functional Executive Committee of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), especially Chairman Johnson Asiedu Nketiah, General Secretary Fifi Fiavi Kwetey and National Communication Officer, Sammy Gyamfi, for the confidence reposed in me through my appointment as Deputy Director of Communication.
This appointment is both a privilege and a solemn responsibility.
On this occasion, I pledge myself to the cause of our party, to lead a stable democracy that delivers socioeconomic development for the people of Ghana.
