“Apart from helping the poor create 10 Ghanaian billionaires” – Kofi Amoabeng tells Mahama

News“Apart from helping the poor create 10 Ghanaian billionaires” – Kofi Amoabeng tells Mahama

Retired Captain Prince Kofi Amoabeng, the founder of the defunct UT Bank, has told President John Mahama to create 10 Ghanaian billionaires.

Prince Kofi Amoabeng urged President Mahama to choose young, honest Ghanaians and support them by paying their taxes to allow their business to stand.

Addressing the President directly, at the Fourth First National Bank (FNB) Head of State Invitational Golf Tournament at the Achimota Golf Club last Friday, Prince Kofi Amoabeng stated, “My suggestion is that, apart from helping the poor people with the employment arrangement, we should try to create about at least 10 millionaires or billionaires in Ghana. Deliberately”.

“You can choose people, young people, who are honest and pay their taxes and have business to stand for, and intentionally, the government backs them up with grants, with contracts and things like that. To grow them so that you go across internationally and everything, and project the name of this country.”

“So, Mr President, identify, please, not only NDC, but genuine business people and push them, encourage them, so that they will become successful for our dear country,” he said.

Mr Amoabeng further detailed two major problems hindering Ghana’s economic acceleration.

He added, “One other thing which really freaks me is the proposed Accra commercial project. Every right-thinking person who spends about seven hours to go to Kumasi they only want to pay even 1,000 cedis so they can get there in time and conduct their business and come back.”

“I personally had a debt recovery which took eight years. And you ask yourself, somebody has come for your money, give you a collateral, it’s not paying, why should it take eight years?”

Also, President John Dramani Mahama and Captain Prince Kofi Amoabeng were captured in a ‘bromance’ moment during the 4th FNB Head of State Invitational Golf Tournament.

During the event, President Mahama and Kofi Amoabeng were captured seated while the Sports Minister Kofi Adams addressed the gathering.

Mahama and Kofi Amoabeng were captured in the background taking a selfie together and later having a light chat together.

Additionally, the 4th FNB Head of State Invitational Golf Tournament took place on Friday, November 28, 2025, at the iconic Achimota Golf Club.

The tournament was officially opened with a ceremonial tee-off by H.E. John Dramani Mahama, President of the Republic of Ghana.

The 2025 edition is themed “Giving Back To The Community Through Golf”.

Reports by CitiSports stated, “The Head of State Invitational Golf Tournament is a prestigious amateur golf event held annually under the distinguished patronage of the sitting President”.

It revealed, the 2025 edition will feature 120 golfers from clubs across Ghana and beyond.

“The event is proudly organised by Northwestern Solutions in partnership with the Ghana Golf Association, with First National Bank (FNB) serving as the headline sponsor.

“Additional sponsorship and support are being provided by the National Petroleum Authority (NPA), Aphro, La Villa Aphro, Mundus, SAP Gp, Danny List Foundation, Caveman Watches, The Luckiest, and Nguvu Mining Limited”
