GFA in talks with Walid Regragui for vacant Black Stars job – Gary Al-smith

0

Gary Al-Smith, a Ghanaian sports journalist, has revealed that the Ghana Football Association (GFA) are in talks with the former Morocco coach Walid Regragui to replace Otto Addo as Black Stars coach.

According to Gary Al-Smith, the GFA is talking with Walid Regragui, the coach who led Morocco to the semi-final of the 2022 World Cup and the final of AFCON 2025.

He detailed that the GFA feels Walid Regragui is the kind of profile who understands African football to deliver the Afcon, and also understands international football.

Gary Al-Smith revealed that both the GFA and Walid Regragui are keen on progressing with all that is left, including the terms of the contract and his wages.

He further disclosed that the former Morocco coach Walid Regragui would not come cheap but is very interested in the Ghanaian job.

Meanwhile, reports gathered also suggest former Black Stars coach Kwasi Appiah is also in the mix to replace Otto Addo following his sacking.

The information gathered suggests the Ministry of Sports wants Akwasi Appiah to lead Ghana to the 2026 World Cup.

Reports suggest the Ministry of Sports believes that the Sudan head coach has what it takes to lead the Black Stars to glory at the 2026 World Cup.

Reports suggest Kwasi Appiah is expected to be in Ghana for some talks about the vacant Black Stars job.

It will be recalled that Kwasi Appiah has coached the Ghana national team, the Black Stars, on two separate occasions: first from April 2012 to September 2014, and then from April 2017 to January 2020.

During his time in charge, he made history as the first Black African coach to qualify Ghana for a FIFA World Cup in 2014 and also led the team at the 2013 and 2019 AFCON tournaments.

Should he replace Otto Addo, it would mark his third stint as head coach of the Black Stars.

Other notable names include Walid Regragui, Herve Renard,  Desmond Ofei and Kim Lars Bjorkegren.

The news follows the Ghana Football Association’s decision to sack Otto Addo as head coach of Ghana’s senior national team, the Black Stars.

Otto Addo was sacked following a series of poor performances from the Black Stars, capped with a 2-1 defeat to Germany just a few hours ago on Monday, March 30, 2026.

Earlier, the Black Stars were humiliated by  Austria on March 27, 2026, after a 5-1 thrashing.

The association extended its gratitude to the coach for his service to the country.

In the statement confirming the decision, the Ghana FA said, “The Ghana Football Association (GFA) has parted ways with the head coach of the senior men’s national team (Black Stars), Otto Addo, effective immediately.

“The Association wishes to thank Otto Addo sincerely for his contribution to the team and wishes him the best of luck in his future endeavours,” parts of the statement read.

It added, “The Ghana Football Association will communicate the new technical direction of the Black Stars in due course.”

“2025 was our best year at the same time, our worst year of existential troubles” – Kissi Agyebeng

0

Special Prosecutor Kissi Agyebeng has said 2025 was the Office of the Special Prosecutor’s (OSP) best year of performance; at the same time, it was its worst year of existential troubles.

According to Kissi Agyebeng, while the office achieved some of its best results, it also endured its “worst year of existential troubles.”

The Special Prosecutor asserted that political calls to scrap the office significantly contributed to the challenges it faced.

However, noted that such pressure stems from its mandate to hold public officials accountable.

Speaking at a National Dialogue on the Office of the Special Prosecutor on Tuesday, March 31, Kissi Agyebeng stated, “2025 was our best year of performance; at the same time, it was our worst year of existential troubles. Why should Kissi and a few officers of the Office of the Special Prosecutor always fight existential battles just to keep this office running?” he said.

It will be recalled that Majority Leader Mahama Ayariga and Majority Chief Whip Rockson-Nelson Dafeamekpor drafted a Private Member’s Bill seeking the repeal of the Office of the Special Prosecutor Act, 2017 (Act 959).

Also, Alban Bagbin, the Speaker of Parliament, has said Ghana cannot continue to allocate huge sums to the Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP) when the country is not getting the results.

According to Speaker Bagbin, the Office of the Special Prosecutor was created to prove a point that it was prepared to tackle corruption.

He further questioned the constitutional basis of the Office of the Special Prosecutor.

Speaking during a debate in Parliament on Thursday, November 4, 2024, Speaker Bagbin stated, “If you recall, during the deliberation on the OSP, a number of us stated on the floor of this House that it has no constitutional basis, but we wanted to signal to the world that we are going to fight corruption”.

“At the end of the day…we cannot continue to allocate huge sums to the same office when we are not getting the results. This is one of the agencies we should be looking at,” he remarked.

Also, Rockson-Nelson Dafeamekpor, the Member of Parliament for South Dayi and Majority Chief Whip, has accused the Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP) of devouring vast public funds without delivering adequate results.

Speaking on Joy FM’s Super Morning Show on Monday, December 22, Dafeamekpor quizzed the reasoning for the significant budgetary allocations made to the office in recent years.

He revealed Parliament had approved a budget of GH¢250 million for the OSP for the 2026 financial year, arguing that the amount was almost identical to what the office received in 2025.

The Majority Chief Whip stressed that the level of funding for the OSP is comparable to that of the Attorney-General’s Department, which delivers far greater value to the state.

Rockson-Nelson Dafeamekpor stated, “The entity was just guzzling money. If you compare the utility value the Attorney-General is giving us, it is clear”.

“Nobody is saying to imprison people. What we are saying is that once cases are prosecutable, prosecute them and let the accused persons have their day in court so the cases can be disposed of.”

However, the Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP) has offered a direct rebuttal to critics who have characterised the office as a drain on national resources.

According to the Special Prosecutor, despite the office still being in its formative stages and facing budgetary challenges, they have saved Ghana more than twenty times the total amount of money released to it since its establishment.

In the OSP Half-Yearly Report for December 2025, the Special Prosecutor, Kissi Agyebeng argued that the OSP has delivered strong results.

Road Ministry DELETES published data on Big Push after Mahama’s demands for details

0

The Fourth Estate has revealed that the Road Ministry has shockingly deleted published data on the Big Push project following President John Mahama’s demands for details.

In a news card, The Fourth Estate wrote, “After President’s demand for details on Big Push contract, Ministry deletes published data from website”.

Some Ghanaians reacting to the Fourth Estate revelation wrote, “Stop this wild goose chase. Your case was weak from the start—no evidence, just noise.

Sole-sourcing isn’t illegal; abuse of it is. That’s what the NDC has always opposed.

So what loss did the public purse suffer from the BIG PUSH projects?

You’ve not shown us where the rot is”.

“What do you expect them to do? Sing praises for you? Are you the one who directed them to publish it on the website? Were you not given the data when you asked for it? Stop this needless post and concentrate on what you do best as a watchman of the realm”, a netizen added.

One X user added, “You said you’ve done your undercover works and gotten your documents, hence yours against the ministry before the president, so why this again, despite all this, you’ve not pointed to any fraudulent act or breach of law in your investigation”.

Another X user added, “Stop wasting our time on this wild goose chase. Your case lost steam from the very outset because you did a very lousy job without any evidentiary basis. Sole-sourcing in the strict sense of the word is not wrong or illegal.

It is the unheeded abuse of sole-sourcing that constitutes wrongdoing and is what the NDC has consistently preached against.

What injury did the public purse suffer through the use of sole-sourcing in the awarding of the BIG PUSH projects?

Stop being a propaganda outlet for the NPP, which thinks that constructing good roads for the Ghanaian people will do extensive damage to their political fortunes!”.

The development follows: President John Dramani Mahama, who instructed his office to obtain the full detailed report from the Fourth Estate concerning the Road Ministry’s GH¢73b Big Push sole sourcing contracts.

According to President John Dramani Mahama, his office is to conduct a study of the various allegations presented in the report.

President Mahama also directed the Ministry of Roads and Highways to answer all the allegations made in the report.

Speaking during a Presidential Dialogue with Civil Society Organisations at Jubilee House in Accra on Monday, March 30, Mahama explained, “I note the recent expose by the Fourth Estate on procurement processes related to the award of contracts under the Big Push programme. While sole sourcing is legal under certain circumstances under our current procurement law, we all agree that open, transparent tenders are always preferable for achieving competitive pricing and value for money.

“Although we’ve seen snippets of the investigation from the media, I’ve instructed my office to obtain the full detailed report from the Fourth Estate and to conduct a study of the various allegations presented in the report. We’re also requesting the Ministry of Roads and Highways to present a detailed response to those allegations made therein, in order to inform the government’s action on the matter,” he said.

Also, Mahama has announced that his government will introduce amendments to the Public Procurement Act to limit single sourcing.

“And it is precisely for such situations that I announced that the government will introduce amendments to the Public Procurement Act to limit single sourcing, to promote greater transparency and ensure proper value for money for the money we spend on projects. I’ve also requested the Minister of Finance to fast-track the setup of the independent value-for-money office, since the amendment to the procurement legislation will require that all single-source procurements be subject to rigorous value-for-money review,” he said.

Tema microlight aircraft crash – Family of Capt Donkor dissolves his marriage with widow

0

On Monday, March 16, 2026, following the solemn state burial for two of the victims of the tragic Tema microlight aircraft crash, the Family of late Captain Frank Donkor has dissolved the marriage with the widow.

According to the family, although the marriage has been formally dissolved, it does not mean the widow will not be rejected by the family, as she is still their child.

The video shared on X by SIKAOFFICIAL stated, “The family of the late Captain Frank Donkor, who recently lost his life in the tragic Tema microlight aircraft crash, has formally dissolved his marriage to his young widow, bringing the union to an end”.

In the viral video shared on X, an elder stated, “In the name of God the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit, we hereby dissolve the marriage between you and Frank… As of today, the marriage between you and Frank has been dissolved. This does not mean you are no longer a member of the family.

“You are still our child. So, even though you have removed the ring, you will continue to stay with us in this house, and we will take care of you. No one should think we will reject her,” the elder added.

Some netizens reacting to the news stated, “That’s very kind and thoughtful of the family, but one would have thought at least they would allow her to finish mourning the husband.

This man is a true man of God”.

A netizen added, “No need for this. Even a so-called pastor doesn’t know you don’t need a ceremony for that!! Death automatically dissolves marriage, so no need whatsoever for this charade”.

“In the Akan tradition, this part of the widowhood rite is done after the celebration of the 40 days of the passing of the deceased. This is too early”, one X user added.

“This is one of the hardest but I understand. They are ensuring that she is tied to the family for any rites. So when she meets someone soonest, she can move on in life”, a netizen added.

One more Ghanaian added, “Such a tough and sensitive moment 😔sending strength to the family and everyone affected by the tragedy. Life really throws the hardest lessons sometimes”.

Following the Sky Arrow microlight aircraft crash on Monday, March 16, 2026, the victims were identified as sons of a popular pastor.

The two victims of the microlight aircraft crash have been identified as two sons of the founder of Hebron Prayer Camp near Nsawam, Elder Frank Kwabena Donkor.

One of the sons, a distinguished pilot and instructor, Captain Frank Donkor, and his younger brother,

Captain Frank Donkor is reported to have taken his brother on the ill-fated flight.

Captain Frank Donkor, who was piloting the aircraft at the time of the incident, is described as a seasoned airman who held both Certified Flight Instructor (CFI) and Certified Flight Instructor Instrument (CFII) ratings.

the Ghana Civil Aviation Authority, in a statement, said the aircraft with registration number 9GADV was flying to Accra from Ho.

The GCAA says investigations are underway and that further information will be provided in due course.

Microlights are typically much smaller aircraft, seating two people and mainly used for recreational purposes.

Also, Deputy Minister for Defence, Brogya Genfi, has clarified that the microlight aircraft, which crashed in Tema on Monday, does not belong to the Ghana Armed Forces.

In a Facebook post shared late Monday afternoon, Brogya Genfi stated, “We have received reports of a fatal crash involving a privately owned microlight aircraft at Tema Community 1 this afternoon,” the Deputy Minister wrote.

“We wish to clarify that the aircraft is not owned by the Ghana Armed Forces.”

“We pray for the souls of the departed and extend our deepest condolences to the bereaved families,” his post added.

280,000 applied for security recruitment, not 500,000 – Mahama clarifies

0

President John Dramani Mahama has clarified that 280,000 applied for security recruitment and not 500,000 as widely reported.

According to John Mahama, the figure appeared inflated because many applicants applied to multiple agencies simultaneously.

President Mahama further urged that candidates who scored below the 65% aptitude test cutoff should be retained in a database and recruited in batches of 10,000 annually over four years, giving 40,000 applicants another chance, stressing that missing the mark does not necessarily mean they are unqualified.

Speaking during an engagement with Civil Society Organisations (CSOs) at the Jubilee House on Monday, March 30, 2026, Mahama stated, “The security recruitment mark was set at 65%. The aptitude test required 65%, and so it must have disqualified many people. What I said was that we must maintain the database of those who applied. It was not 500,000 as the media is saying; it was about 280,000. What happened was that people put multiple applications for different services.

“…Somebody applies for immigration, police, fire, and prisons. So, one person applied for four, and that accounted for the 500,000 figure. When you say 500,000 people applied and didn’t get in, it wasn’t 500,000, it was 280,000,” he explained.

Mahama further added, “Now, the thing was set at 65%, and so it disqualified some people. But I’ve said that we’re employing 10,000 for this year, for 2025. Actually, this was supposed to be the 2025 recruitment. So, what I have said is that we should maintain the database for those who applied.

“If you took your 65% and you took some of them, there are still others there, too, who qualify. Just because they didn’t get 65% doesn’t mean they don’t qualify. So, let’s use it as a rolling database for 40,000. We’ll take 10,000 a year for four years, so 40,000 people can have the opportunity, and we probably will lower their qualification,” he said.

“One of the points I make is that the security services are interesting. It is not aptitude alone that is important. You need courage, you need other attributes beyond mental acuity. If you send your recruits to, for want of a better place, let me say Bawku — or Nkwanta, or Sampa, or anywhere there are flashpoints, and there’s action and an attack, sometimes the 65% aptitude people will be the first to run,” President Mahama added.

Earlier, President John Dramani Mahama had, broke his silence regarding the brouhaha surrounding the security recruitment.

According to President Mahama, the move to introduce technology into the recruitment process was to address long-standing concerns about bias in public sector hiring.

Mahama further refuted claims that ongoing recruitment into the security services was driven by favouritism.

Speaking during an engagement with the Ghanaian community in Philadelphia on Thursday, March 26, President Mahama explained, “There have been a lot of complaints that people get recruited based on who they know. This was an attempt to use digitalisation to sort through the first wave of applications. The computer doesn’t know who you are”.

“The intent was in good faith, but the response was overwhelming. We held a meeting and decided to expand the recruitment, and all those who applied don’t need to pay again,” he added.

Also, Mahama directed an increase in security services recruitment from 5000 to 10,000 yearly.

A statement from the presidency dated Monday, March 16, revealed the directive comes following a high-level meeting with heads of the various agencies.

President Mahama’s directives will see the number of men and women recruited to the various security agencies increased from twenty thousand (20,000) to forty thousand (40,000) over four years.

In a Presidency communication shared by signed by Felix Kwakye Ofosu, read, “President John Dramani Mahama has held a high-level meeting with the Heads of Security Agencies, Minister for the Interior and Acting Minister for Defence on the ongoing security services recruitment process.

Following a briefing on the process, the President has directed that the number of men and women to be recruited to the various security agencies should be increased from twenty thousand (20,000) to forty thousand (40,000) over a four-year period.

The President has also directed the Heads of the Security Agencies to ensure transparency and fairness in the recruitment process.

Present at the meeting were the Chief of Staff, Secretary to the President, Senior Presidential Advisor on Governmental Affairs, National Security Coordinator, Inspector General of Police, Director General Prisons, Director General Fire Service, Comptroller-General of the Ghana Immigration Service and the Director General of the Narcotics Control Commission”.

SACKED Otto Addo set for a whopping $500,000 pay off

0

Reports suggest that the sacked Ghana Black Stars coach, Otto Addo, is set for a whopping $500,000 pay off following the Ghana Football Association (GFA) decision to sack him.

The information gathered from SportyFM Ghana suggests  Otto Addo signed a 3-year contract + option of a 24-month extension and was reportedly on a $50,000 per month contract.

Otto Addo was sacked after two years in charge.

The Ghana Football Association is now expected to settle the remaining years left on his contract as compensation.

In a news card Sproty FM stated, “Otto Addo set for $500,000 pay-off as GFA terminates contract two years into intial three-year deal”.

In related news, before his sacking, Otto Addo had said he was unfazed by calls for his dismissal following his side’s thrashing defeat at the hands of Austria.

According to Otto Addo, he does not read social media comments about him even when he wins a game.

Otto Addo stressed that his job has always been on the line, even after he qualified for the World Cup, so he does not really care about calls for his dismissal.

Speaking to the media ahead of Monday’s encounter with Germany in Stuttgart, Otto Addo stated, “This is the job of a coach. When we lose, people are mainly trying to bring you down. I don’t really read too many things”

“Even if we win, I’m not too much into social media or reading anything. Whatever people say, it’s normal, especially on an evening like this when the team didn’t play well and we also lost,” he added.

Meanwhile, reports gathered suggest that the former Black Stars Kwasi Appiah, leads the charge to replace Otto Addo following his sacking.

The information gathered suggests the Ministry of Sports wants Akwasi Appiah to lead Ghana to the 2026 World Cup.

Sports journalist Gary Al Smith made this known.

According to him, the Ministry of Sports believes that the Sudan head coach has what it takes to lead the Black Stars to glory at the 2026 World Cup.

Mahama petitioned to sack EOCO Boss Raymond Archer

0

Gabriel T.K.A Kwamigah-Atokple, a Volta Regional representative on the Council of State, has petitioned President John Dramani Mahama to sack the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) Acting Executive Director, Raymond Archer

The Council of State petition follows an earlier statement demanding that EOCO and its Acting Executive Director, Raymond Archer, issue an immediate public apology or face legal action.

Reports state that the Council of State member, in additional documents, petitioned President John Mahama to dismiss both Archer and his deputy over what he describes as persistent abuse of office.

His demands follow the EOCO declaration, which declared Gabriel T.K.A Kwamigah-Atokple, owner of Sesi-Edem Company Limited, is a person of interest.

The Council of State member, according to EOCO, is a person of interest in an ongoing investigation into alleged fraud and money laundering involving tens of millions of cedis.

In a press release dated March 30, 2026, it stated, “As at now, Dr Tanko Kwamigah-Atokple, owner of SESI-EDEM Company Limited, is a person of interest and is wanted by the Economic and Organised Crime Office to assist with the investigation”.

“In November 2025, the Office extended a formal invitation to Dr Tanko Kwamigah-Atokple, owner of SESI-EDEM Company Limited, but he failed to report,” EOCO said.

“Preliminary investigations by the Office reasonably indicated that the bank account of SESI-EDEM Company Limited held proceeds of crime. The bank account was therefore frozen and confirmed on January 30, 2026, to prevent dissipation of said funds,” the statement said.

“The review ordered by the court, however, did not take into account Section 38 of Act 804, which seeks to preserve funds reasonably believed to be proceeds of crime from dissipation while EOCO investigations are ongoing,” the Office stated.

“SESI-EDEM Company Limited has not been charged before a court of competent jurisdiction, as some media reports have suggested, since the investigation is still ongoing. Unless and until SESI-EDEM Company Limited is formally charged, this matter remains under investigation”.

“Considering that the directors of SESI-EDEM Company Limited have refused to honour lawful requests to appear before investigators, the Office will use lawful means to locate, identify, and arrest the directors of SESI-EDEM Company Limited,” it added.

However, in a sharp rebuttal, Dr Kwamigah-Atokple said the matter had already been determined by the High Court in Adentan on March 19, 2026, adding that EOCO acted without lawful mandate and in violation of constitutional principles of fairness, and ordered the immediate defreezing of the company’s accounts.

He further detailed that, since Mr Raymond Archer assumed leadership, EOCO has exhibited a troubling pattern of abuse and unprofessionalism.

In a statement dated March 30, he wrote, “My attention has been drawn to a press release issued by the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) concerning myself and Sesi-Edem Company Limited, a company I founded

Let me state this unequivocally. This concerns the same JG Resources Ltd matter that the High Court Adentan, conclusively determined on 19th March 2026. In that ruling, the Court held that EOCO, in purporting to investigate me, acted without mandate and in blatant violation of constitutional principles of fairness. The Court therefore ordered the defreezing of accounts that EOCO had frozen unlawfully during the investigation.

Instead of respecting the Court’s authority, EOCO has chosen to publicly attack the judgment and proceed with an “investigation” that the Court has expressly ruled it has no authority to conduct. This conduct is reckless and borders on contempt of court.

Since Mr Raymond Archer assumed leadership, EOCO has exhibited a troubling pattern of abuse and unprofessionalism. The Office appears to prioritise media sensationalism over lawful enforcement, leveraging damage to the reputations of individuals instead of pursuing legal remedies in court”.

His statement added, “The JG Resources dispute arises from a straightforward commercial agreement for the supply of gold between Sesi-Edem Company Limited and JG Resources Ltd, covering the period from June 2025 to June 2026. The complainant admitted to EOCO that at least 58% of the gold had been delivered by November 2025, and EOCO itself acknowledged before the Court that the contractual deadline was June 2026. There was, therefore, no legal or factual basis to label the outstanding quantity as fraudulent

EOCO then launched a fishing expedition, falsely alleging that the transaction was unlicensed. We successfully demonstrated to the Court that Sesi-Edem Company Limited was fully licensed and authorised, holding approvals from the Precious Minerals Marketing Company (PMMC), the Minister responsible for Mines, and the Ghana Gold Board.

The Court correctly found that this was a simple contractual matter for the civil courts, that the delivery timeline had not yet expired, and that the company was duly licensed.

The decision was then widely published. In apparent embarrassment, Mr Archer has now resorted to public theatrics, to damage my reputation by declaring me a “wanted person” without ever serving me an invitation to appear. Prior to the Court’s ruling on EOCO’s lack of mandate, the company fully complied. The Managing Director of Sesi-Edem attended EOCO on 3rd December 2025, gave a written statement, and was interviewed by the Head of the Organised Crime Unit. Our lawyers provided all requested documents on 28’h November 2025, and we obtained official receipt stamps for every submission.

Mr Archer’s contemptuous claim that EOCO still has the mandate to investigate, despite the Court’s determination otherwise, betrays a lack of understanding and respect for the law and the judicial process. EOCO must obey the decision of the courts and finally put a stop to the use of the media to settle scores after losing in court.

Let it be understood that restraint is not weakness. I will take all lawful steps necessary to protect my name, my business, and the integrity of the Court’s authority if, within the next 12 hours, Mr Archer and his office fail to issue a full public apology and withdraw the contemptuous release. I stand firmly on the side of the law, and 1 expect every public institution to do the same”.

NAM1’s criminal trial goes virtual

0

The Accra High Court has directed that the embattled Chief Executive Officer of the defunct Menzgold Ghana Limited, Nana Appiah Mensah, commonly known as NAM1, ongoing criminal trial be switched to virtual/electronic means.

Reports suggest the court decision follows, acknowledged receipt of a medical excuse from NAM1 with a note from the doctor that the accused refrain from ‘maximal physical exertion’.

In a post shared by TV3, it stated, “The Accra High Court has notified lawyers of defunct Menzgold CEO Nana Appiah Mensah, also known as NAM1, that the proceedings will be switched to virtual/electronic means.

This was after the court acknowledged receipt of a medical excuse from NAM1 with a note from the doctor that the accused refrain from ‘maximal physical exertion’.

Nana Appiah Mensah is facing multiple counts of defrauding by false pretence, operating a gold firm without a license and money laundering. He has pleaded not guilty and is on bail”.

Some Ghanaians reacting to the post stated, “The uncomfortable reality that we don’t want to discuss is that we have a two-tiered so-called “justice system” in Ghana: one for the poor and the other for the rich or affluent.

No Ghanaian, I repeat, no Ghanaian who isn’t affluent or rich would be given this shameful preferential treatment by our courts.

What usually fuels uprisings and revolutions are things like these. The people begin to see how the system is designed to favour the rich and powerful, then they revolt.

In related news, NAM1 had earlier told the High Court he intends to engage more lawyers for his case”.

Another X user added, “The case of NAM1 keeps evolving. Virtual court is fine, but Ghanaians don’t want adjustments; they want answers. Too many people are still waiting for justice. Health concerns aside, accountability can’t keep dragging. Is this case moving forward or just moving around?”.

“Whatever one thinks about NAM1 and the Menzgold saga, the victims who lost money deserve to see this case handled properly. Switching to virtual hearings might be convenient, but the substance of the charges — defrauding thousands — still needs full accountability”, one X user added.

According to reports, NAM1 told the High Court that he will appoint lawyers to each accused.

Reports from StarrFM suggest, “on Wednesday, January 21, 2026, a few minutes after the Supreme Court had adjourned his application for the order made for him to open his defence and an application for prohibition against the trial judge.

NAM1 told the court that he intends to assign lawyers to each of his companies, Menzgold (second accused) and Brew Marketing Consult (third accused)”.

Also,  NAM1 has hired a new lawyer filing a repeat application at the Supreme Court to quash a High Court order for him to open his defence.

The Supreme Court in 2025 dismissed Nana Appiah Mensah, popularly known as NAM1 application to overturn earlier rulings by the High Court and the Court of Appeal in his ongoing criminal trial.

The embattled Menzgold CEO must now open his defence in the ongoing criminal trial.

However, TV3 has reported that NAM1 has filed a repeat application at the Supreme Court with a new lawyer seeking to quash the High Court order.

It will be recalled that Menzgold Ghana Limited, owned by NAM1, was offering high-return gold collectable investments.

However, it operated without the required licences from the Bank of Ghana and the Securities and Exchange Commission, despite repeated warnings from regulators.

Menzgold Ghana Limited was then shut down by the Securities and Exchange Commission in 2018, leaving thousands of Ghanaians with locked-up funds.

NAM1 is now facing charges including unlicensed gold trading, fraud, and money laundering.

The case has been delayed for years by multiple appeals by NAM1.

Reacting to the decision, Fredrick Forson, the Chairman and Convener of the Menzgold Customers, welcomed the ruling, saying. “Our understanding is that the High Court trial can now proceed.

Today, we were also told that they will file their reasons on the 17th of this month [December 2025]. So, as directed earlier, we will return to the High Court on the 16th, which is next week. We are very happy, and we appreciate what the court has done, just that it has taken long.

“You are not clean; you are a corrupt fellow” – Edem Agbana tells Pius Hadzide

0

Edem Agbana, the Member of Parliament for Ketu North, has told the former Chief Executive Officer of the National Youth Authority (NYA), Pius Hadzide, that he is a corrupt fellow.

According to Edem Agbana, Pius Hadzide is an example of someone who does not deserve to speak on corruption because your records are there.

He detailed that Pius Hadzide’s own minister accused him of engaging in visa racketeering, with the issue remaining unresolved to this day.

Edem Agbana responds follow Pius Hadzide during the TV3 New Day discussion, who claimed President Mahama’s silence on a sole-sourcing procurement contract suggests he is complicit.

However, Edem Agbana insisted that Hadzide is unfit to comment on corruption-related matters.

Speaking on TV3 New Day, Edem Agbana stated, “You are an example of someone who does not deserve to speak on corruption because your records are there. You are not clean, and I can quote members of your party. In fact, when you were appointed by Bryan Acheampong, I heard members of your party, including members from Dr Bawumia’s camp and Kennedy Agyapong’s camp, say that someone like you has no integrity and no clean record.

“Your own minister accused you of engaging in visa racketeering, and that issue remains unresolved to this day. I am not Asiama, your minister, said you engaged in visa racketeering. So when Akufo-Addo cleared you, which report did he rely on?” he said.

According to Edem Agbana, no “serious political party” would assign Pius Hadzide to represent them in discussions on corruption due to his track record while in office.

“Your minister says you are corrupt. For that reason, you were removed from the Sports Ministry, yet you sit on TV and suggest that because Hon. Agbodza awarded sole-sourced contracts, President Mahama’s silence could mean he is complicit. How dare you?

“You are a corrupt fellow. If we want to be serious, as you suggested, no serious political party will send you to represent them to speak on corruption,” he added.

In related news, President John Dramani Mahama has instructed his office to obtain the full detailed report from the Fourth Estate concerning the Road Ministry’s GH¢73b Big Push sole sourcing contracts.

We thank God that Accra New Town building collapsed on a weekend – GES

0

Prof Ernest Kofi Davis, the Director General of the Ghana Education Service (GES), has said they are thankful to God that the Accra New Town building collapsed happened on a weekend.

According to the GES, they will conduct a structural integrity test on all uncompleted buildings being used for academic work to prevent future disasters.

Speaking to the media, Prof. Ernest Kofi Davis asserted that he is grateful to God that it did not happen on a weekday when students were around.

He stated, “We will meet with regional directors to help look at the structural integrity of the uncompleted spaces that are being used currently to ensure that this does not happen”.

”We only thank God that it happened on a weekend. So for now we have been properly briefed, and we are going to look at its implications going forward,” he said.

His comments come in the wake of the collapse of a building belonging to the Newtown Experimental school, which caused the death of three people.

Twenty victims so far have been hospitalised, receiving treatment at various health facilities.

The tragic incident occurred on Sunday at an uncompleted structure within the premises of the Accra New Town Experimental Basic School.

Reports suggest the site was being used by Christian worshippers.

Earlier reports had revealed two deaths, but a recent official update places the death toll now at three.

The Interior Minister speaking at the scene stated, “So far, information that has been cross-checked, double-checked, visited all the hospitals, just to be sure that we don’t give any information that may be far away from the fact”.

“As we all know, it is very difficult for you to go to how many people were in there, but at least with the cross-check from the police and National Ambulance Service,” he noted.

He further added, “The Ambulance Service and their team have been here the whole night, and they’ve done a wonderful job. We are really grateful. Gratitude to the media and everybody that I’ve forgotten to mention”.

The Interior Minister further detailed that 23 people were under the rubble, with 15 females and 8 males, with seven minors.

Muntaka Mubarak further asserted that no minor lost their lives.

“What we can say is that there was a total of 23 people. Unfortunately, we’ve lost three – a male and two females. They’re not able to tell names for now,” he disclosed.

“And thank God, 20 are alive in various hospitals – the Police Hospital, Mamobi and a private facility”.

“Out of the 23, the total number of females amongst them is 15, with eight males. Out of this, we have seven minors, but those who have lost their lives, there’s no minor,” he stated.

Meanwhile, Abdulai Mahama, a road and building consultant, has said many buildings in Accra are structurally unsafe and are only standing by the grace of God.

According to Engineer Mahama, Ghanaians keep ignoring all the laws and then expect God to hold the buildings.

Engineer Mahama warned that many developers continue to ignore building laws, with the situation posing a serious risk to lives.

He asserted that structural failures could occur at any time, calling for stricter enforcement of building regulations.

Engineer Mahama urged property owners to subject their structures to professional assessment to prevent future disasters.

Speaking on Breakfast Daily on Channel One TV on March 30, 2026, Engineer Mahama stated, “Indiscipline is just on the rise, especially when it comes to building. We ignore all the laws, and then we expect God to hold the buildings. Most buildings in Accra, I can say, are standing by the grace of God”.

“When God takes his eyes off for a microsecond, a lot of buildings will be off in Accra. We should engage engineers to go and assess our buildings. Every building standing can be assessed by any engineer who is worth his salt,” he added.

“Oh, but Africans were involved” – Mahama punches holes in argument made by critics of slavery reparations

0

President John Dramani Mahama has fired shots at critics against Ghana’s call for reparations to African countries over slavery, which was championed by him at the United Nations.

According to John Mahama, some critics are making Infantile arguments, suggesting that Africans were involved, so they shouldn’t talk about reparations.

Mahama highlighted that those arguments by critics are just trying to whittle down slavery, which has now been recognised as the gravest crime.

President Mahama detailed that, even when reparations were paid to slave owners for letting the slaves go, adding that even when the slave trade was abolished, slavemasters were compensated for letting their slaves go.

Speaking during the Presidential Dialogue with Civil Society Organisations (CSOs), President Mahama stated, “A few of our people, I don’t know whether for attention or popularity, criticised their achievement and tried to belittle it, and they made all kinds of infantile arguments. They say so, but Africans were involved… The crime was systematic. The ships that carried the slaves were insured by reputable insurance companies that are some of the richest in the world today because they profited from the slave trade. The ship owners made money.

“And listen to the important one, reparations were paid to slave owners for letting the slaves go. When they abolished the slave trade and said the slaves could go, they compensated the person who had enslaved somebody for loss of property. As recently as 2015, compensation was paid to people for losing their slaves… Slavery is recognised as the gravest crime, and you say, ‘oh, but Africans were involved’,” he fumed.

He added, “This was a whole system. They built ships, and they built the ships with measurements to make sure that the cargo could take the maximum amount of slaves. And you tell me that, you know, Africans were involved, so we shouldn’t talk about reparations… some people just want to whittle down what happened.”

President Mahama further highlighted, “If you know what happened to the slaves, nothing compares to it in everything that has happened in this world, to the 15 million people who were sent away, those who died. I’ll give you one example: a ship captain threw 134 slaves overboard to go and claim insurance, because your ancestors were cargo, and so if the ship lost cargo, there was insurance that compensated for the loss of cargo. And 134 slaves, he threw them overboard and went and filed an insurance claim for loss of cargo”.

Mahama further noted, “In the record of the Holocaust, there were Jews who were prison guards, the Jews who pointed out where other Jews were hiding. And yet the Holocaust is recognised as genocide and a crime against humanity. So why not the slave trade? Because some Africans were involved. It doesn’t absolve those who built the system and financed it, and so we’ll call them out. I don’t care what anybody says, we’ll call them out”

Mahama’s comment follows that of award-winning investigative journalist Manasseh Azure Awuni, who opposed his calls for reparations to Africa for the transatlantic slave trade.

According to Manasseh, if reparations are to be paid, countries such as Ghana should also be required to pay them for their role in the slave trade.

He highlighted that it will not be right to pay reparations to those who took part and benefited from the slave trade, even though the benefits and exploitation of the enslaved people were disproportional.

Manasseh detailed that descendants of the slaves in America, the Caribbean and elsewhere rightfully deserve reparations, not African countries whose people captured and sold slaves.

He, however, labelled African countries that captured and sold slaves as ‘accomplices’, not victims.

Also, Alexander Kwamina Afenyo-Markin, the Minority Leader in Parliament, has punched holes in Ghana’s demand for reparatory justice following the UN General Assembly’s adoption of a resolution recognising the trafficking of enslaved Africans as the “gravest crime against humanity.

According to Afenyo-Markin, historical accounts of the transatlantic slave trade fail to reflect the role played by local actors.

Afenyo-Markin highlighted that local actors chase their strongest among their own people, then, after 100 years, Africans are demanding that they should be compensated.

The minority leader quizzed who should compensate whom following the role played by the indigenous people who subjected their people to inhumane treatment.

Speaking on the Floor of Parliament on Friday, March 27, 2026, “When somebody berths a vessel at Cape Coast, and you decide to go to the North, Bono area, get to the Ashanti area, to the Assin area, and you are chasing your strongest among your own people, then after 100 years, you say I should be compensated. Who should compensate whom? We maltreated our own and told the white man that he should also maltreat our own. The story must be told and must be put in its proper context.

“It is also a fact that the inhumane treatment, the unfortunate humiliation, the marginalisation, injustice and abuse of our ancestors who became victims of this slave trade must be condemned,” he said.

Gov’t budget $30 million for Ghana’s 2026 World Cup campaign – Sports Minister

0

Kofi Adams, the Sports Minister, has disclosed that the government has budgeted a total of $30 million for Ghana’s 2026 World Cup campaign, covering both team-related and promotional activities.

According to the Sports Minister, Ghana is not prepared for the upcoming FIFA World Cup, but has put in place structures to ensure Ghana’s readiness.

The Sports Minister further explained that the World Cup goes beyond just the Black Stars playing.

Speaking in an interview with Bernard Avle on Channel One TV’s The Point of View on Monday, March 30, Kofi Iddie Adams stated, “I can’t say we are 100% ready, but we have set systems in place that we will be ready when we have to be ready. Financially, the government has committed some budgetary funds for the team, as we saw in the 2026 budget”.

“World Cup goes beyond the team, just the Black Stars playing. There are a number of things that you have to do. There are a number of activations you want to do because you want to also promote the country beyond just the 90 minutes that they will play,” he stated.

“So we have other things we do — that was what we put all together, giving us a figure of $30 million. There is an appropriation in the World Cup that is about $16 million, which the team can utilise during the World Cup, if we are staying from group to the finals. Their feeding, training, hotel accommodation, per diems, bonuses — it is part of the tradition that we have. Bonuses are not things that are bad,” he added.

Earlier, the Minister of Sports and Recreation, Kofi Adams, has announced that the Ghana Football Association (GFA) has proposed over $13 million for the Black Stars’ campaign at the 2026 World Cup.

According to Kofi Adams, the over $13 million for the Black Stars’ remains at the proposal stage, with discussions yet to be held with the Ghana Football Association (GFA) for scrutiny before final approval.

He explained that the figures could either be reduced or maintained depending on the outcome of deliberations.

Following the Sport Minister’s revelation, a detailed breakdown has emerged of how the GFA intends to spend the over $13 million.

According to reports, about $1,230,465 will be spend pre-tournament camping, which includes friendly matches and preparations at their training base ahead of the World Cup in the United States, Canada, and Mexico.

The breakdown also shows that approximately $6,284,000 is expected to be spent during Black Stars’ group stage against England, Croatia, and Panama.

In case the Black Stars qualify for the Round of 32, an estimated $690,000 will be spent, with another $920,000 estimated for the round of 16.

Also, $1,137,500 has been proposed for the quarter-finals, and another $1,365,000 for the semi-finals.

Members of the Black Star’s Management Committee are also expected to receive $310,000 as honorarium.

In case the Senior National team reach the final, an additional $1,840,000 will be required, bringing the entire proposed expenditure amount to $13,776,965.

In related news, the Ghana Football Association (GFA) has sacked Otto Addo as head coach of Ghana’s senior national team, the Black Stars.

“Single sourcing must be used sparingly” – Mahama says as he announces an amendment to Procurement Act

0

President John Dramani Mahama has announced that his government will introduce amendments to the Public Procurement Act to limit single sourcing.

According to President John Dramani Mahama, he remains of the conviction that single sourcing must be used as sparingly as possible.

Mahama further instructed his office to obtain the full detailed report from the Fourth Estate concerning the Road Ministry’s GH¢73b Big Push sole sourcing contracts to conduct a study of the various allegations presented in the report.

Mahama added, “And it is precisely for such situations that I announced that the government will introduce amendments to the Public Procurement Act to limit single sourcing, to promote greater transparency and ensure proper value for money for the money we spend on projects.

“I’ve also requested the Minister of Finance to fast-track the setup of the independent value-for-money office, since the amendment to the procurement legislation will require that all single-source procurements be subject to rigorous value-for-money review,” he said.

“I remain of the conviction that single sourcing must be used as sparingly as possible,”

His comments come on the heels of The Fourth Estate publication, which suggested President John Dramani Mahama and his government have been paying lip service in terms of promises to minimise sole-source procurement to encourage competitive bidding.

President John Mahama, on numerous occasions, has reiterated his government’s commitment to make single-source procurement a rare exception rather than the norm.

However, after one year in office, the report by The Fourth Estate has unearthed that the Road Ministry awarded 81 sole-sourced contracts worth over GHS73 billion in 7 months.

The Fourth Estate stated, “Data available to The Fourth Estate indicates that in the last seven months, the ministry has awarded 107 road contracts. Contrary to the President’s promise to ensure competitiveness and transparency in the awarding of public contracts, not a single one of 107 contracts was awarded based on competitive tendering.

A whopping 81 out of the 107 road contracts worth over GHS73 billion were awarded through sole-sourcing. The remaining 26 contracts worth about GHS8 billion were awarded through selective tendering. This means over 90% of the amount of money expected to be spent on roads under the Big Push programme so far was given out through sole-sourcing.

Despite this glaring contrast, the majority leader and leader of government business in Parliament, Mahama Ayariga, audaciously proclaimed to Parliament on March 11, 2026, that “let it be known, the era of the sole-sourced contract is dead.”

Apologise within 12 hours – Council of State tells EOCO after declaring him ‘wanted’ over alleged GH¢57m gold fraud

0

Gabriel T.K.A Kwamigah-Atokple, a Volta Regional representative on the Council of State, has issued a statement demanding that the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) and its Acting Executive Director, Raymond Archer, issue an immediate public apology or face legal action.

“No amount of jobs created by gov’t will absorb every unemployed person” – Madina MP

0

Francis Xavier Sosu, the Member of Parliament for Madina, has said no amount of jobs created by the government will absorb every unemployed person.

Speaking in an interview on Metro TV on Monday, March 30, 2026, Francis Xavier Sosu stated, “Government will create jobs. But no amount of jobs created by the government will absorb every unemployed person. You must understand that. Let’s be honest,” he said.

“It’s not about politics. Hunger doesn’t know politics. A lack of jobs doesn’t know political parties. If you want to tie your personal growth and jobs to NDC or NPP, I’m telling you, you’ll lose it,” Sosu added.

He added, “No political person will be a politician forever. I will do my own, my time will come, I will leave. But I’ve said too many times that you are here because you want to help the people. After service, I will go.”

“Many young people have come to my office, and by the time they are leaving, they turn into entrepreneurs. One of the things we do a lot is business support,” he said.

His comments follow earlier remarks he made, which have triggered Ghanaian youths on social media.

According to him, his earlier comments were taken out of context and all he tried to communicate was entrepreneurship.

Earlier, speaking to the media at a recent event, Francis-Xavier Sosu took aim at young Ghanaians who voice frustrations about unemployment on social media.

He argued that food businesses like Indomie offer more financial reward than formal employment.

“They sit on Twitter and TikTok and make their noise. Can you imagine if you’re a young person and all you are doing is having a small Indomie joint that gives you about GH¢200 profit a day, and you have about 10 of those Indomie joints?

How much are you making a day? That’s about GH¢2,000 a day. In 30 days, how much is that? It’s about GH¢60,000. How many jobs will give you GH¢60,000 a month?” he said.

Meanwhile, Former Finance Minister Seth Terkper has said job creation under President John Dramani Mahama has been significantly slowed by debt distress and restrictions under the International Monetary Fund (IMF) programme.

Seth Tekper stressed that the National Democratic Congress administration inherited debt distress and restrictions under the International Monetary Fund (IMF) programme.

According to him, the NDC government has plans to create jobs, but Ghana’s prevailing economic conditions limited what could be achieved in the early months of the Mahama administration.

Speaking on Joy News, Seth Terkper stated, “If you look at the NDC manifesto, there’s a plan to create jobs already. But when you come into an economy where, under the IMF programme we inherited, compared to what we handed over, all you can do is borrow T-Bills.

“You’ve been shut out of your own domestic bond market, which we set up. You’ve been shut out of the external bond market because you’ve defaulted”.

He added, “Economists have something called counter-cyclical policies. It means that you know that the economy rises and falls — it’s good and bad”.

“If you don’t have sufficient food, and you import with the reserves, it affects the currency. If it’s not something you can predict for later, it’s something you should know could happen,” he said.

Gov’t focus on provisions of basic needs, not Anti-LGBTQ Bill – Mahama

0

President John Dramani Mahama has said Ghana is still grappling with the provisions of basic needs of education, health care, jobs, food, clothing, and shelter, which is his government’s main focus and not the Anti-LGBTQ Bill.

According to John Mahama, the Anti-LGBTQ Bill, while important, is not Ghana’s most urgent concern at this time.

Speaking during a Presidential Dialogue with Civil Society Organisations at Jubilee House in Accra on Monday, March 30, Mahama stated, “We are still grappling with the provisions of basic needs of education, health care, jobs, food, clothing, and shelter”.

“While there are strong and differing views within our society, we believe that issues must be addressed through democratic processes, our core values, dialogue, and the rule of law,” he said.

Earlier, President John Mahama called on international partners to respect Ghana’s position on LGBTQ issues.

Mahama stressed that public policy is shaped by the country’s legal traditions, cultural values, and societal consensus.

According to John Mahama, Ghana’s democratic processes are actively at work to ensure that any outcome of the anti-LGBTQ bill reflects the views of the people.

President Mahama made these known when he received the ‘International Statesperson Award’ from the World Affairs Council of Philadelphia.

He stated, “The issue of LGBTQ rights is emotive, and they are not completely settled in terms of their nuances and arguments, not only in Ghana but all over the world.

Even in the United States, you still have discourse on LGBTQ rights. There are still 26 states in America that have legislation that restricts LGBTQ rights.

For a country like Ghana, our democracy is playing in respect to what those rights are. The bill in parliament is not a government bill, it is a private members’ bill, and so parliament hold that bill for now.

What the eventual nature of the bill would be, nobody can second-guess Parliament, and I, as President, cannot anticipate Parliament in respect of that bill. But I believe that our democracy will work out. Memoranda are being accepted from people from all walks of life.

“Civil Society Organisations are presenting their papers to Parliament, and I believe that the representatives of the people will make the will of Ghanaians reflect in whatever eventually comes out,” he said.

I swore an oath to uphold the Constitution, and so the representatives of the people will discuss the bill once they pass it, and then it comes to the presidency.

I believe that our international partners should understand that public policy is grounded in our legal traditions, in our cultural context, and in our social consensus, and all those issues are playing out as we speak.”

In related news, Senyo Hosi, a Finance and economic policy analyst, has told President John Dramani Mahama that his honeymoon period back in government is over.

According to Senyo Hosi, the Mahama government must focus on substantive issues that affect our people, like production and employment for our youth.

He detailed that the Ghanaians will soon stop discussing the sins of Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo as they start to demand accountability from the Mahama government.

Senyo Hosi is quoted to have said, “People now are going to stop discussing what Nana Addo was like. People are now going to hold this government accountable for their own aspirations as human beings, as Ghanaians and their expectations of governance.

Real lives are at stake, and real questions will start being asked. Nana Addo is fast becoming history in people’s expectations and people’s problems about governance. People have accountability issues. Are you really delivering accountability beyond the press conferences and saying…Who has become accountable after over a whole year in office?

We were having conversations with the transport minister about the efficiency of procurement, about you still doing single sourcing. People are seeing these things and will start judging you on its own merit”.

He added, This is the defining year for John Mahama; the real state of his government will be evaluated after this year. Next year is campaign mode, and there will be a lot of disruption, but this is an indication that your honeymoon is over, so please get focused on the substantive issues that affect our people. Production, employment for our youth, we are looking clearly about accountability”.

“I cannot comment on Ken Ofori-Atta’s extradition” – Mahama breaks silence

0

President John Dramani Mahama has said he cannot comment on the ongoing proceedings to extradite former Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta.

According to John Mahama, Ken Ofori-Atta’s extradition process is out of his jurisdiction and within the jurisdiction of the United States.

He asserted that it would be inappropriate for him to make pronouncements on a case.

Speaking during a Presidential Dialogue with Civil Society Organisations at Jubilee House in Accra on Monday, March 30, Mahama stated, “I cannot comment on the extradition of our former Finance Minister because it is in a different jurisdiction… we just have to be patient for the law to play out in that jurisdiction. It is not within our jurisdiction, but the American judiciary…”

In related news, “Enayat Qasimi, a US-based lawyer representing Ghana’s former Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta, has disclosed that his client has a pathway to US residency.

According to Ken Ofori-Atta’s US-based lawyer, his client will pursue permanent US residency rather than returning to his home country.

Reports by JOYNEWs revealed Enayat Qasimi told Semafor his client has a “pathway to residency” that he would pursue.

“He claimed there were “serious questions” about the independence of the Ghanaian judiciary and said that Mr Ofori-Atta had been subjected to a “political witch hunt” that meant he was unlikely to receive a fair trial over alleged financial impropriety while in office, from 2017 to 2024”, JoyNews is quoted to have said.

In related news, reports suggest the  United States immigration court has denied former Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta bail.

Reports suggest that Ken Ofori-Atta’s bail, which was heard on February 19, 2026, was unsuccessful.

According to veteran journalist Alfred Ogbamey, lawyers for Ken Ofori-Atta had prayed the court to grant bail to allow him to seek medical attention.

Nevertheless, the presiding judge, David Gardey, denied the request.

Judge Gardey reportedly ruled that bail was unnecessary, arguing that Ofori-Atta has access to adequate medical care at the United States Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) facility where he is being held.

Parts of the post shared by the veteran journalist stated, “At his hearing last Thursday, lawyers for Ken Ofori-Atta argued that he should be granted bail to access proper medical care. Sources say the Judge refused the request, insisting that the former minister has access to adequate medical needs at the ICE facility”.

Also, TV3 in a post stated, “Former Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta remains in detention in the United States after a bail application in his immigration case was unsuccessful, according to sources familiar with the proceedings”.

It will be recalled that Ken Ofori-Atta’s bond hearing, which is known as a bail hearing in Ghana, took place on February 19, 2026.

The federal judge was said to know whether Ghanaian authorities have filed proper proof of an extradition request.

Also, Frank Davies, a member of the Legal Team of former Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta, has disclosed that his client’s decision to seek permanent residence in the U.S. is personal.

According to Frank Davies, Ken Ofori-Atta’s decision to seek permanent residence in the U.S has nothing to do with his legal matter but personal.

Frank Davis is quoted by TV3 as saying, “Ken Ofori-Atta’s decision to seek permanent residence in the U.S. is a personal and not a legal matter”.

Mahama takes action on Road Ministry’s GH¢73b Big Push sole sourcing contracts allegation

0

President John Dramani Mahama has instructed his office to obtain the full detailed report from the Fourth Estate concerning the Road Ministry’s GH¢73b Big Push sole sourcing contracts.

Otto Addo SACKED as Black Stars coach

0

The Ghana Football Association (GFA) has sacked Otto Addo as head coach of Ghana’s senior national team, the Black Stars.

Also, Otto Addo has expressed confidence that his team will bounce back to deliver a stronger performance when they face Germany.

He added, “We’ve had a lot of things to analyse after the last game, which was a big, big woe for us,” he told the media ahead of Monday’s encounter.

“We had a lot of things to talk through, analyse through and even though we face a stronger opponent, I am optimistic that we can handle the situation.”

“We are ready; this is our last training, and we will try to prepare the last things and look forward for tomorrow,” he added.

Additionally, Otto Addo also used a culinary analogy to explain his style of football; he adapts to what will hurt his opponent and cannot say his Black Stars team is possession-based.

Speaking to the media ahead of Monday’s encounter with Germany in Stuttgart, Otto Addo stated, “This is my style, I always look at who is coming, it is always different for me. I compare it to eating; if I eat fufu, I use my hand. When I drink soup, I will use a spoon; if I want rice and meat, I use a fork and a knife; it’s just the same as the players.

I look at the opponent and what can harm them the most. It is a flexible style, I can say we are possession-based”.

Many buildings in Accra are structurally unsafe, standing by the grace of God – Engineer Mahama warns

0

Abdulai Mahama, a road and building consultant, has said many buildings in Accra are structurally unsafe and are only standing by the grace of God.

His comments come in the wake of the collapse of a building near the Newtown Experimental school, with Mohammed Muntaka Mubarak, the Interior Minister, revealing that three people have died following the collapse of a three-storey building at Accra New Town.

Twenty victims rescued so far have been hospitalised, receiving treatment at various health facilities.

Even a kindergarten child won’t believe that NPP is not attractive – Obiri Boahen blast Mussa Dankwah

0

Nana Obiri Boahen, a Lawyer and former Deputy General Secretary of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), has fired shots at the Executive Director of Global InfoAnalytics, Mussa Dankwah, over his recent poll on the NPP.

According to Mussa Dankwah, the Global InfoAnalytics recent poll detailed that NPP voters no longer find the party attractive.

However, Nana Obiri Boahen rejected the poll, according to him, even a kindergarten child won’t believe that NPP is not attractive.

He asserted that even a mature or level-headed person will pay attention to or give credence to a poll that claims the NPP is no longer attractive.

Nana Obiri Boahen argued that even NDC members are complaining about the government’s performance, noting that water bills are rising, and electricity prices are going up.

Speaking in an interview on Okay FM on March 23, Nana Obiri Boahen stated, “He doesn’t know what he is saying by claiming the NPP is no longer attractive. I don’t believe any mature or level-headed person will pay attention or give credence to this publication.

“Which mature person will believe that the NPP is not attractive? Even a kindergarten child won’t accept this because water bills are rising, electricity prices are going up, and the cost of living is increasing.

“The country is becoming difficult, so I don’t know why he would even say this,” Obiri Boahen stated.

Also, John Boadu, a National Chairman hopeful of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), has said the ruling National Democratic Congress’s (NDC) government has caught up with them.

The NPP man disclosed that the NDC, since assuming office, has changed its position on several issues.

According to John Boadu, if the NPP gets its act right, it will be back in power in 2028.

Speaking to the media, John Boadu stated, “If we get our acts right, I can assure you that the New Patriotic Party will come back to power in the 2028 elections”.

“For the lies the NDC peddled, it is just a matter of time. Their lies are gradually catching up with them, and the people of Ghana will deal with them soon”.

In related news, Minority Leader Alexander Afenyo-Markin has said the 2028 election is all play, all play, as no NDC parliamentary seat is safe.

Alexander Afenyo-Markin declared the NPP’s intent to reclaim political dominance in the 2028 general elections.

He stressed that no parliamentary seat held by the National Democratic Congress (NDC) will be secure.

The minority leader called on NPP members to intensify grassroots mobilisation, accusing the NDC of failing to deliver on key campaign promises.

Addressing executives of the Tertiary Students Confederacy (TESCON) in Parliament on Wednesday, March 18, Alexander Afenyo-Markin stated, “If elections are held today, NPP will be the majority, but that will also require hard work and loyalty. We do not doubt our minds that you will take up the mantle”.

“We will be joining our colleagues to storm the campuses. The 2028 election is all play, all play, no NDC seat is safe. We will approach every NDC seat like a normal seat,” he said.

“Be consistent” – Prof Gyampo told over conflicting comments

0

George Mireku Duker, a Former Member of Parliament for Tarkwa-Nsuaem, has slammed the Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana Shippers Authority Prof Ransford Gyampo.

Mireku Duker called out Prof. Ransford Gyampo over his conflicting views on calls for reparations in the past.

The former MP argued that Professor Gyampo’s position on reparations has shifted over time.

Speaking in an interview on Peace FM’s Kokrokoo on March 26, 2026, George Mireku Duker said, “I hear people hailing President Mahama’s move as unprecedented. Someone like Professor Gyampo, I will plead with him to be consistent. I remember when President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo said it would be important for the West to compensate us because of the slave trade.

“Professor Gyampo said it wasn’t necessary, arguing that Ghana didn’t need such money. Today, the same Professor Gyampo has described Mahama’s call for reparations as unprecedented. Can you imagine? If this continues, they won’t take us seriously,” Duker stated.

“At that time, he said if we got such money, we wouldn’t see where it would go. But now, if the money comes, can we really know where it will pass?” Duker asked.

“What baffles me is his claim that what Mahama said is unprecedented. I mean, what sort of hypocrisy is this?”

However, Prof Gyampo has responded to critics, maintaining that his comments on reparations have been misrepresented.

According to Prof Gyampo, the attack on him is a nation-wrecking propaganda.

He clarified that his earlier remarks were taken out of context from a broader television discussion.

“The call for reparations would be meaningless if we do not address corruption, waste, and negative attitudes that continue to undermine development,” he stressed.

In related news, President John Dramani Mahama has said the United Nations’ approval of a motion on slavery reparations is not the end, as it is only the beginning of the fight for justice on slave reparations.

John Dramani Mahama at the United Nations General Assembly on Wednesday, March 25, 2026, tabled a resolution calling on the UN to recognise the Trans-Atlantic Slave Trade as the gravest crime ever committed against humanity.

Following a massive debate, the motion was adopted with 123 countries voting in favour of the slavery reparations motion tabled.

The United States, Argentina, and Israel voted against it, while 52 European Nations 52 abstained.

Speaking after the General Assembly session on Wednesday, March 25, 2026, President Mahama labelled the slavery reparations as a significant milestone.

President Mahama stressed that the outcome, while historic, must transform into sustained global action.

Speaking after the General Assembly session, Mahama stated, “This is not the end. This is the beginning. What we’ve achieved today creates a platform for the struggle for reparative justice”.

“We must take this success and begin to work so that those who denied our ancestors their humanity, those who denied our ancestors their dignity, can accept the truth that this is what happened,” he said.

He added, “Today we’ve accepted that this was a grave crime against humanity — the gravest indeed”.

“This victory is not for Ghana. We did it for the whole of Africa and all people of African descent. If we keep this coalition, we will take the next steps together,” he said.

“Today’s victory is to ensure that we do not forget, and will never forget. As long as this resolution has been passed, our ancestors will never, ever be forgotten,” he concluded.

“Elect me as the national chairman, I will use Twi to get this job done” – Wontumi

0

Bernard Antwi Boasiako, popularly known as Chairman Wontumi, the Ashanti Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), has urged party delegates to elect him as the NPP national chairman.

According to Wontumi, he is going to use Twi to get the job done for the NPP.

Wontumi stressed the need for grassroots engagement in leadership, highlighting that local language is key to winning the next general election.

Chairman Wontumi emphasised the pivotal role of language in political outreach.

He stressed that he intends to rely on his fluency in Twi to connect directly with the voters.

Speaking to supporters during his campaign tour in Accra on Sunday, 29 March 2026, Wontumi explained, “I have worked as a constituency chairman, constituency executive, and now I am a regional chairman. I know what they need and what they want.

“If you elect me as the national chairman, I am going to use Twi to get this job done. The grassroots are going to respond, and we will win the election in 2028,” he said.

In related news, Chairman Wontumi, a New Patriotic Party(NPP) National chairman hopeful, has said appointees who enjoyed JUICY positions under Akufo-Addo are nowhere to be found now that the party is in opposition.

Chairman Wontumi has expressed worry over the current state of the NPP, noting that all persons who got juicy appointments when the party was in power have left the political scene after the party’s humiliating defeat.

Speaking to NPP delegates when he met them in Asamankese, “After the elections, all those who enjoyed the juicy appointments are nowhere to be found. The party is now being run by the regional and constituency executives of the party.

We made a very big mistake as a party, but in 2028, when we win the election, we will not repeat these same mistakes”.

In related news, Chairman Wontumi has claimed that Ghanaians are missing the governance of Akufo-Addo and Dr Mahamudu Bawumia.

According to Chairman Wontumi, everyone in Ghana is calling for Dr Mahamudu Bawumia and the NPP to come and rescue them.

Speaking to the media in an interview shared on social media, Wontumi stated, “Ghanaians are calling for Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, and they have also missed the good governance of former President Nana Akufo-Addo and Dr Bawumia”.

“So at the moment, cocoa farmers are calling NPP to come, everybody, all the sectors, so are the importers, everybody is calling for the NPP to come, so we hope we will have the favour from God and men to vote for NPP and Bawumia and the majority of the NPP MPs”.

Also, the flagbearer of the NPP, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, has endorsed Chairman Wontumi as the next party National Chairman.

In a viral video, Chairman Wontumi was arriving at a Bawumia’s residence where he exchanged greetings with some members of the NPP around.

Wontumi later walked inside Dr Bawumia’s residence, saying, “Your excellency, the president”.

Dr Bawumia stated, “INCOMING, how are you?”.

Wontumi responded, “Very well, my boss”.

Adoption of slavery as gravest crime against Humanity diminishes other atrocities – Israel

0

The Israeli embassy in Ghana has spoken out about the country’s decision against voting on Ghana’s slavery resolution.

According to the Israeli embassy in Ghana, Ghana’s resolution for slavery to be declared the gravest crime against humanity diminishes other atrocities.

The Israeli embassy in Ghana stressed that the adoption of the Resolution risk diminishing the gravity of other atrocities, including the Jewish Holocaust by the Nazis, as well as other crimes that have caused immense human suffering.

In an official explanation shared on the Israeli embassy’s Facebook page on March 27, 2026, the Israeli embassy stated, “Adoption of the Resolution: Declaration of the Trafficking of Enslaved Africans and Racialised Chattel Enslavement of Africans as the Gravest Crime against Humanity”

Explanation of Vote by Israel

Israel wishes to thank Ghana for bringing forward this important resolution. We recognise the enduring legacy of the transatlantic slave trade and the enslavement of Africans. These are atrocities whose consequences continue to shape societies and demand acknowledgement and remembrance.

Israel has consistently supported initiatives that address the history and legacy of slavery. We approached this resolution in that same spirit, with a genuine desire to join consensus.

However, we regret that we are unable to support the resolution as adopted.

This is mainly because the resolution defines the trafficking and enslavement of Africans as the gravest crime against humanity.

While we fully recognize the unparalleled scale and cruelty of these crimes, we cannot accept language that effectively establishes a hierarchy among crimes against humanity.

Such formulations risk diminishing the gravity of other atrocities, including the Jewish Holocaust by the Nazis, as well as other crimes that have caused immense human suffering.

For this reason, Israel had to vote against the resolution. We did so with regret. Our opposition does not reflect a lack of recognition of the horrors of slavery or its legacy, but rather stems from principled concerns regarding the text as it stands.

We sincerely regret that adjustments were not made during the negotiation process that could have enabled broader support, including from Israel.

Israel remains committed to combating racism, preserving historical truth, and ensuring that all crimes against humanity are remembered and addressed without hierarchy or politicization”.

Meanwhile, President John Dramani Mahama has said the United Nations’ approval of a motion on slavery reparations is not the end, as it is only the beginning of the fight for justice on slave reparations.

Prison increases your boldness, it doesn’t change you – Agradaa

0

Evangelist Patricia Asiamah, widely known as Nana Agradaa, has boldly stated Prison doesn’t change a person, but only increases one’s boldness.

According to Agradaa, he said, “Tawfiakwa” when the judge sentenced me to 15 years in prison.

Speaking in a viral video, Agradaa stated, “Prison doesn’t change a person; it only increases your boldness. I said ‘tawfiakwa’ when the judge sentenced me to 15 years in prison. When bloggers asked me, ‘Mama Pat, what do you have to say about your sentencing?’ I only told them to pray for me”

In related news, Agradaa has said she does not regret being sent to prison.

According to Agradaa, her time in prison has had a profound impact on her spiritual life, claiming it has strengthened her faith and ministry.

Agradaa, speaking to a Church congregation, described her period in custody as a life-changing experience.

Addressing a church congregation on Sunday, March 22, Agradaa stated, “I was sent to prison, but today I can say to the glory of God that I do not regret it. What God has given me through this journey is invaluable and cannot be bought with money”.

Some Ghanaians reacting to Agradaa’s claims stated, “It’s obvious this woman never ate ‘Zontoli.” ‘ While in prison, I can confidently say she never truly experienced hardship in prison. The same prisons that humble hardened criminals and even transform some into pastors — yet she claims it increases boldness? That’s honestly laughable.

Our judicial system clearly favours the rich while tightening its grip on the poor. The disparity is undeniable”.

Another netizen added, “If anything, prison is supposed to be a place for accountability and reform, not a badge of toughness. Saying it only makes someone ‘bolder raises concerns about whether any real change or remorse has taken place”.

“So, per logic, the reason why criminals still come out to rob again when they’re done serving their time is that they get bolder instead of being reformed.

#Ghanaprisons, how true is this assertion?”, a netizen added.

Background

Agradaa was released from Nsawam prison on March 3, 2026, following a reduced sentence.

The Amasaman High Court described Agradaa’s original punishment as harsh and excessive under the circumstances of the case.

The Amasaman High Court, in its decision, affirmed her conviction but exercised its discretion to vary the sentence, reducing the 15 years of hard labour earlier imposed by the trial court.

Agradaa’s revised sentence takes effect from July 3, 2025, the date of her conviction, which means she will serve a total of 12 months in prison.

The court decision will now see Agradaa being freed from prison by July 2026.

The Amasaman High Court added that although the offences for which Agradaa was convicted warranted punishment, the severity of the initial sentence was disproportionate under the circumstances, justifying a downward adjustment.

Trotro Operators issue a 2-day ultimatum, threaten 20% fare increment

0

Commercial transport operators, commonly known as Trotro Operators, have issued a 2-day ultimatum demanding that the government stabilise fuel prices.

The Trotro Operators have issued a two-day ultimatum to the government to stabilise fuel prices or risk 20% increment in fares.

In a press release dated March 29, 2026, the Commercial transport operators stated, “The transport sector is the backbone of Ghana’s economy, and any instability in fuel supply or pricing has far-reaching consequences for the entire nation,” the statement said, adding that their patience is “wearing thin.”

“This increase will not only affect our members but also the Ghanaian public, who are already struggling to make ends meet,” the statement noted.

Reports suggest the statement was jointly signed by “Samuel Amoah of the Ghana Private Road Transport Union (GPRTU) under the Trades Union Congress (TUC); Asonaba Nana Wiredu, National Chairman of the Commercial Transport Operators of Ghana; Paa Willie, National Chairman of the Concerned Drivers Association of Ghana; David Agboado, PRO of the Concerned Drivers Association; and Yaw Barimah, PRO of the True Drivers Union”.

Earlier, the Ghana Private Road Transport Union (GPRTU) announced that transport fares would remain unchanged for now.

According to the GPRTU, the rising fuel prices will not increase transport fares.

The GPRTU disclosed that, as a transport union, they are monitoring developments in fuel prices before deciding on any adjustments.

Samuel Amoah, the GPRTU Deputy Public Relations Officer, detailed that decisions on fares are not determined solely by fuel prices.

Speaking on Channel One Newsroom, the Deputy Public Relations Officer of the GPRTU, Samuel Amoah, explained, “We all agreed that where it is now, we will not rush into making any decision but will wait to see what will happen next. We are going to maintain the fares we are taking for now because who knows, the fuel price may stabilise or there may be an increase or reduction in the next pricing window”.

“We have a technical team that goes out to check all these things and reports. Per their report, there is a need for us to hold on to see what will happen in the next pricing window. We do not know where it will go. What if we increase, and then in the next pricing window, it goes up to where we can’t control the situation? We will not know what to tell our members, and we can’t come back to tell the public that we are coming in for another increment,” Amoah said.

Also, GPRTU had hinted at an increase in transport fares as fuel prices are expected to rise.

Reports suggest fuel prices will increase by some significant margin from today, March 16; Petrol up by 16.93%, and Diesel 17.21%.

According to the GPRTU, an upward adjustment in fuel prices in the next pricing window could compel them to increase transport fares to reflect operational costs.

Abass Imoro, the Industrial Relations Officer of the Ghana Private Road Transport Union, explained that transport operators are already feeling the pressure from rising operational costs.

Speaking on the Channel One Newsroom on Channel One TV on Sunday, March 15, 2026, he stated, “You know we work for profit, and for some time now prices have remained the same. Some of our people even went out of their way to increase their prices, but we were able to stop them. This indicates that they are looking for a change in the prices of fares”.

“We spoke about the prices of spare parts, lubricants and other things we use on our cars, but their prices have remained high. So these are the indicators we look at,” he explained.

“We do not immediately impose a new fare, but if the price of fuel changes and it is upwards, everybody should expect a change in lorry fare,” he said.

Video – Ghanaians in Russian army bid farewell to their compatriot killed in Russia-Ukraine war

0

A video has emerged online with family members, together with Ghanaian soldiers serving in the Russian army, who have bid farewell to a Ghanaian man who died while fighting for Russia in the Russia-Ukraine war.

In the viral video, the deceased was laid in a coffin at what appeared to be a cemetery in Russia.

His fellow Ghanaians serving in the Russian army were heard eulogising him and sharing their final words as they paid their respects.

One of them paid tribute, stating, “Damrifa Due. You have fought well. Damrifa Due…”

Another colleague stated, “No one knows what lies ahead of them except God the creator. There is a saying that no life can take what death holds. What has happened has happened, and all we will say is for God to keep you safely…”

Some Ghanaians reacting to the video stated, “They know you will not leave to see your salary, they give you good deals and put you in the frontline. They never loved us. That’s how Argentina wiped out the entire black race in war. Now you understand why they vote against the President. Mahama‘s reparations against slavery”.

“So sad! There’s no future for the Ghanaian youth; the only youth this govt is interested in are bloggers and influencers”, a netizen added.

One X user added, “Fighting for someone with only 1 month of training, you have like 5% of surviving chances. The odds will be against you.”

Meanwhile, Ghana’s Foreign Affairs Minister, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, has revealed that at least 55 Ghanaians have been killed fighting in the war in Russia-Ukraine war, with two others currently being held as prisoners of war.

According to Ablakwa, the figures were disclosed to him during high-level talks in Kyiv between Ghanaian officials and Ukraine’s Foreign Minister, Andrii Sybiha.

He detailed that Ukrainian authorities have documented 1,780 Africans from 36 countries who have been lured by criminal trafficking networks to join the war against Ukraine.

Ablakwa detailed that 272 Ghanaians are believed to have been lured into battle since 2022, with an estimated 55 having been killed and 2 captured as prisoners of war.

In a post shared on X, Ablakwa wrote, “During our engagements and media briefing, Ukrainian authorities revealed that from their credible intelligence gathering, they have documented 1,780 Africans from 36 countries who have been lured by criminal trafficking networks to join the war against Ukraine.

Even more depressing and frightening, we were informed that 272 Ghanaians are believed to have been lured into battle since 2022 for which an estimated 55 have been killed and 2 captured as prisoners of war”.

He further added, “As a responsible government, we cannot turn a blind eye to these heartbreaking statistics. These are not just numbers; they represent human lives, the hope of many Ghanaian families and our nation.

That is why the government is determined to raise awareness and embark on intensive public education so that our youth will be protected.

The Mahama Administration is committed to tracking and dismantling all dark web illegal recruitment schemes operating within our jurisdiction. This is not our war and we cannot allow our youth to become human shields for others.

It is noteworthy that our two captured compatriots spoke out passionately about the grave dangers during my visit and cautioned the youth not to be tempted, regardless of the monetary enticements — I expect all our young people to listen to them”.

“Agenda 111 must be continued” – Akufo-Addo tells Mahama

0

Former President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has told the NDC-led John Mahama government that the stalled Agenda 111 hospitals must be completed.

According to Akufo-Addo, the completion and operationalisation of the stalled Agenda 111 hospitals will boost Ghana’s healthcare.

Akufo-Addo made this known while speaking over the weekend at the launch of the Kyebi Government Hospital’s centenary celebrations.

The event was organised by the Akyem Abuakwa Traditional State and the Kyebi Government Hospital.

Akufo-Addo stated, “We must also be honest, not every project was realised, not every project was completed. At some facilities, we reached advanced stages that could not be finished before our term ended.

Agenda 111 must be continued. Continuity, not disruption, is how health systems succeed,” he said.

It will be recalled that Agenda 111 was a flagship under the former Akufo-Addo government, which was designed to construct 111 hospitals nationwide to bridge gaps in access to medical care.

In related news, Thomas Nyarko Ampem, the Deputy Finance Minister, has disclosed that 35 contractors under the Agenda 111 initiative received US$7.9 million in mobilisation funds, but they failed to deliver work equal to the payments.

According to Thomas Nyarko Ampem, an Auditor-General on Arrears and Payables, as at the end of 2024, uncovered significant irregularities under the Agenda 111 project.

The Deputy Minister disclosed that the audit findings showed that some contractors who took the US$7.9 million did not mobilise to their respective sites, and others also failed to deliver work.

Speaking on the floor of parliament while presenting the Report of the Auditor-General on Arrears and Payables as at the end of 2024 in Parliament on Tuesday, March 10, Mr Nyarko Ampem stated, “Mr Speaker, the audit of Agenda 111 projects also revealed that a total amount of US$7.9 million was paid to 35 contractors as advance mobilisation under the programme, but these contractors have either failed to mobilise to the site or the work done is not commensurate with the amount paid”.

“The advance mobilisation guarantees secured by the 35 contractors who received the US$7.9 million have all expired. The Auditor General has subsequently issued notices of surcharge to the offending contractors,” he added.

Meanwhile, Dr Kwame Asiedu Sarpong, a Democracy and Development Fellow in Health at the Centre for Democratic Development (CDD-Ghana), has said Ghana’s Health crisis is a systems and people’s problem, not a bed problem.

He argued that Ghana’s Health crisis goes beyond ‘no-bed syndrome adding that the system is fundamentally broken.

Speaking on Joy FM’s Super Morning Show on 24 February 2026, Dr Sarpong explained, “The problem is not a bed problem. It’s a systems and people’s problem. We’ve diagnosed the issues, but we’ve refused to intervene.

“The Health Harmonisation Assessment Report was a diagnosis of the health of our health system. When the diagnosis told us our health system was very, very sick, we did nothing about it,” he said.

Dr Sarpong added, “We needed retooling of our health system since 2014, but we haven’t done it. That’s a fact of our health system, and it’s why we’re still in crisis today”.

“It’s not just about where the beds are. It’s about the resources and the right medical expertise at each facility. If a hospital has a bed but lacks the proper expertise or equipment, sending a patient there is as dangerous as not having a bed at all,” he explained.

“Show up and be seen” – Cadman Atta Mills slams Ministers for gathering at the Airport to receive Mahama

0

Cadman Atta Mills, a Ghanaian economist and brother of the late former President John Evans Atta Mills, has slammed the airport reception for President John Dramani Mahama.

According to Cadman Atta Mills, he told his late brother when he was in office, the practice was not just unnecessary but was also insane.

Cadman Atta Mills was reacting to a viral video that captured several prominent Ministers alongside officials from the Jubilee House, seated and holding Ghana flags as they awaited John Mahama’s return to Ghana.

He explained that Atta Mills questioned the practice of such receptions, adding that he was satisfied to be seen off by his Vice and/or his Chief of Staff.

In a social media post, he wrote, “Interesting tradition:  show up and be seen.  You are either with the delegation or at the airport to send off and to welcome back.  But who is manning the shop?  President Mills was not very fond of that.  He was satisfied to be seen off by his Vice and/or his Chief of Staff.   That was that”.

It was not just unnecessary.  It was insane!  And I let him know about it.  But at least that was a special occasion.  There were concerns about his health (he was really in a bad shape when he left for medical attention in the U.S. at my insistence).

In related news, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, the Minister of Foreign Affairs, has cancelled his ministry’s planned welcome ceremony organised by staff ahead of his return to Ghana from the UN.

According to Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, he would have strongly opposed the planned idea if he had been consulted.

He detailed that his checks from the Ministry’s management indicate that such surprise welcome ceremonies are a tradition of the ministry to celebrate major accomplishments.

In a social media post made on Monday, March 30, 2026, Ablakwa wrote, “I have become aware of an intended surprise welcome by staff of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs scheduled for my arrival in Ghana tomorrow.

My checks with the Ministry’s management indicate that such surprise welcome ceremonies are a tradition of the ministry to celebrate major accomplishments and proud moments for Ghana.

I have expressed my appreciation to management for their thoughtful gesture and instructed that all such plans to offer me a surprise welcome at the Airport be cancelled immediately.

I would have strongly opposed the idea if I had been consulted. This is not a personal victory, and besides, there is more work ahead of us.

God bless all our dynamic and talented staff at the MFA and bless our dear country even more to keep winning on the global stage under the guidance of President John Mahama.

For God, Country and Continent”.

See viral before photos of the collapse of the Accra Newtown Experimental School building

A viral photo has surfaced showing the before images of the collapse of the Accra Newtown Experimental School building.

Reports suggest the building was 14 years old, and it had previously been declared unfit.

The photos show that the three-storey Accra Newtown Experimental School building was not fully completed.

Also, a resident of Accra New Town has said everyone in the community knows the Accra Newtown Experimental School building was very weak.

According to the resident, he has been living in the community for 20 years, with community members knowing the building was weak, but authorities were still allowing services and activities inside the building.

Speaking in an interview, the resident stated, “I have been living in here for over 20 years now, and this building we are seeing is very, very weak. Everybody in the community knows that this building is very, very weak, and then they’ll be allowing services and activities inside there, which is very bad,” the resident said.

“They should have known that the building had collapsed. Very, very sad,” the resident lamented.

“A lot of people are trapped there. They are all hoping that the rescue team can do their best on the same day,” the resident added.

Meanwhile, Mohammed Muntaka Mubarak, the Interior Minister, has revealed that three people have died following the collapse of a three-storey building at Accra New Town.

Twenty victims rescued so far have been hospitalised, receiving treatment at various health facilities.

I strongly opposed – Ablakwa cancels Foreign Affairs Ministry’s planned airport welcome back ‘party’

Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, the Minister of Foreign Affairs, has cancelled his ministry’s planned welcome ceremony organised by staff ahead of his return to Ghana from the UN.

According to Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, he would have strongly opposed the planned idea if he had been consulted.

Some Ghanaians reacting to Ablawka’s statement wrote, “What victory sef have you chalked? And masa we all read the letter wai so stop lying, you instructed them to do so. You are a stinking populist!”.

“Herrrh!!   Is @S_OkudzetoAblak a Ghanaian (African) at all?  A minister who does not want his staff to see him off at the airport and welcome him back with fanfare?  What is happening?  He clearly does not know how to “chop” the ministerial post.  He should resign!”, a netizen added.

“That’s a very statesmanlike move. Turning down a celebratory welcome sends a clear message: focus on the work, not the spotlight. It shows humility, discipline, and an understanding that public service isn’t about personal glorification. Moments like this build credibility, leadership that puts country over ceremony always stands out”, another X user added.

A netizen quizzed, “A circular signed ‘for the Minister’, and you claim you’re not aware? We’re very much enlightened about public service operations.

Keep throwing people under the bus for populist gains! You did the same to the DVLA boss. Keep on Hon!”.

“Honourable, please i think you could’ve say this to the people involve off social media because i don’t see the need for this tweet. Must everything be on social media? Are you saying this here for Ghanaians to applaud you or what exactly is the rationale behind this tweet?”, a netizen added.

One more Ghanaian added, “I agree with you. Whoever thought of such an idea is a sycophant. We waste productive hours on useless things. What is the relevance of a staff meeting for a Minister arriving from a trip? Is he the President/Vice? Such welcomes should be reserved for only the President & Vice President”.

“When I eat fufu, I use my hand; when I eat soup, I use a spoon” – Underfire Otto Addo talks tactics

0

Underfire Ghana Black Stars head coach Otto Addo has said his football is based on the opponent his team is facing.

According to Otto Addo, who used a culinary analogy to explain his style of football, he adapts to what will hurt his opponent and cannot say his Black Stars team is possession-based.

Also, Otto Addo has said he is unfazed by calls for my dismissal.

“This is the job of a coach. When we lose, people are mainly trying to bring you down. I don’t really read too many things”.

“Even if we win, I’m not too much into social media or reading anything. Whatever people say, it’s normal, especially on an evening like this when the team didn’t play well and we also lost,” he added.

Some Ghanaians reacting to his remarks stated, “This is baseless, every coach has it style of play, before you can be given a project, you need to present your plans and philosophy, if it can suit the project, you can’t go for interview and you’ll be saying this fork and knife thing… whoever advising Otto Addo must stop”.

“A national team player with only a few days of adjustments, always having to tinker and change tactics, instructions, and positioning. Figuring out if they’re playing, many minutes or not can lead to disorganisation.

Sometimes it’s good to keep it simple and consistent”, a netizen added.

One X user added, “The GFA is watching Otto Addo spew nonsense, and yet they keep on pampering him. Otto Addo is a guy who has been sent to a better school, given quality teachers, given extra tutorials at home, given exam papers ahead of time, but still fails. Wabon tu”.

“We are doomed! So we go onto the pitch with no game plan, waiting to see what our opponents will do? Eeei, then by the time we get to know what they’re doing, then we’ve conceded 3 goals”, a netizen added.

Meanwhile, Ralf Rangnick, head coach of Austria, has told Ghanaians not to be too emotional following the Black Stars’ humiliating 5-1 defeat to his side.

According to Ralf Rangnick, Ghanaians should not be too emotional about Otto Addo, as he does not think that with a different coach, the result would have been any different.

Speaking at a post-match interview following his Austrian side’s thrashing of the Black Stars, Ralf Rangnick stated, “Ghana qualified for the World Cup with Otto Addo as manager. So the most important thing is that they qualified.

At least we don’t overrate this game and this result. I remember that we played Turkey two years ago before the Euros. We beat them 6-1 here, but then we played against Turkey again in the round of 16 at the Euros, and we lost 2-1, unfortunately. But luckily for Turkey”.

“So, I wouldn’t rate that too much. Let’s wait and see how they play against Germany on Tuesday, and then it might be a completely different story again. Don’t be so emotional about your coach. Otto is a good one, and I don’t think that with another manager it would have been a different result,” Rangnick added.

Kofi Adams travelled to Germany alone; no individual was sponsored – Sports Ministry clarifies

0

The Ministry of Sports and Recreation has debunked a viral video claiming that the Minister Kofi Adams sponsored individuals to Germany for the Black Stars friendly game.

According to the Ministry of Sports, the people seen in the circulating video are not known to the minister as they were simply Ghanaians he encountered briefly at the departure tunnel at the airport while boarding his flight.

The Sport Ministry statement read, “The Ministry of Sports and Recreation has taken note of a video circulating on social media claiming that the Minister for Sports and Recreation sponsored individuals with business class tickets to Germany for the Black Stars’ friendly matches”.

“The Ministry wishes to state unequivocally that these claims are false and without any basis. The individuals captured in the video are not known to the minister. They were simply Ghanaians he encountered briefly in the departure tunnel at the airport while boarding his flight,” it added.

The Ministry further clarified that no staff or delegation accompanied the minister.

“No staff of the Ministry or any delegation accompanied him on this trip. No individual was sponsored, facilitated, or upgraded by the Minister or the Ministry. For the avoidance of doubt, the Ministry has not committed any funds, whether from its budget or through corporate sponsorship, towards the two international friendly matches. Consequently, no arrangements or support have been made for fan participation or travel in any form. The public is therefore urged to disregard the reports”, it clarified.

The statement comes on the heels of Kofi Adams being spotted boarding a flight to Germany alongside some football fans ahead of the Black Stars’ friendly match in Stuttgart.

One of the fans said, “We are going to support the Black Stars. On Monday, God willing, it will be a win, there is no doubt about that. We are going with the sports minister.”

Socialite Appiah Stadium, a staunch NDC member, was also seen boarding the flight, stated, “The 5‑1 defeat will be overturned against the Germans. This is the first time in history a sports minister has smiled and laughed so much; there is no other sports minister like him.”

“I don’t care” – Otto Addo brush off calls for his dismissal

0

Under-fire Ghana Black Stars head coach Otto Addo has said he is unfazed by calls for his dismissal following his side’s thrashing defeat at the hands of Austria.

“NDC’s Fifi Kwetey is my baby daddy, our son is 10 years old” – Joyce Dzidzor Mensah alleges

Former AIDS Ambassador and actress Joyce Dzidzor Mensah has alleged that the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) General Secretary Fifi Kwetey is the father of her son.

Joyce Dzidzor Mensah, in a viral video, alleged that Fifi Kwetey is the baby daddy of her son, who is ten years old this month and has been pleading with the NDC General Secretary for eight years to recognise his son.

According to Joyce Dzidzor Mensah, Fifi Kwetey proposed a DNA test, but the test has been pending for four years.

She further alleged that she has been pleading with Fifi Kwetey to give their son the identity he deserves, but her plea has yielded no result.

Speaking in a self-recorded video on TikTok, Joyce Dzidzor Mensah alleged, “As a mother, I come to you all with a heavy heart, to tell you to join me in pleading with Hon Fifi Fiavi Kwetey, the General Secretary of the NDC. There is an unresolved issue between us.

I have been pleading behind closed doors for the past 10 years. Fifi Kwetey, please rescue the soul of our son. Our son is ten years old this month, and the boy is still in tears. Please let’s give our son the identity he deserves. I am not here to fight but to plead with Ghanaians to join hands with me, since my plea for the last 10 years has not yielded anything”.

“My baby daddy, Fifi Fiavi Kwetey, please release the soul of our son. Ever since the boy turned two years, I have been pleading for 8 years. Sometimes I come to Ghana, then we discuss, and then you propose a DNA because apparently you still don’t trust me. The DNA test has been pending for the past four years, ever since you proposed”.

She further added, “I know that you have a good heart. I plead with Ghanaians not to make this a political issue but to see it as a child without a father. A fatherless child trying to hear the voice of his father”

Some Ghanaians reacting to her allegation stated, “Madam! We are busy with sole-sourced episodes. You can take the issue to Auntie Naa for an amicable solution”

“When you were climbing the bed, did you come to us with a heavy heart?”, a netizen added.

One TikToker asked, “Please, is this Abena Korkor?”

“Let’s take our mental health seriously, ok”, one more Ghanaian added.

A TikToker added,“You, this lady, every day you have a new story”.

“Is very sad how men leave their kids with their mum to be a single parent”, a netizen added.

One netizen noted, “Now his party is in power hmmmn this lady”.

GH₵400k MoMo withdrawal linked to gold robbery – Police details

0

The Ghana Police Service has announced that a probe by the Police Professional Standards Bureau (PPSB) into allegations concerning the purported unauthorised withdrawal of GH₵400,000.00 has been linked to gold robbery.

It will be recalled that Christian Tetteh Yohuno, the Inspector-General of Police (IGP), ordered an investigation into a viral video alleging that some police officers in Kibi withdrew GHC400,000 from a mobile money agent’s account without authorisation.

The IGP directives follow, a viral video on social media alleging fingering some Police officers in the incident.

According to the police, the outcome of the investigation will be duly communicated to the Ghanaian public.

In a statement released by the Police on Thursday, 5, 2026, read, “IGP DIRECTS INVESTIGATION INTO VIRAL VIDEO ALLEGING UNAUTHORISED MOBILE MONEY WITHDRAWAL.

The Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Mr Christian Tetteh Yohuno, has directed the Police Professional Standards Bureau (PPSB) to conduct investigation into allegations in a viral video concerning the unauthorised withdrawal of an amount of GH₵400,000 from a mobile money account of a mobile money agent by some personnel at Kibi.

The victim has since been contacted and is assisting the investigation.

We assure the public that the outcome of the investigation will be duly communicated”.

In a Facebook post on Sunday, March 28, the Police provided an update saying, “UPDATE: INVESTIGATION INTO ALLEGED UNAUTHORISED WITHDRAWAL OF GH₵ 400,000.00 FROM A MOBILE MONEY ACCOUNT

Following a directive by the Inspector-General of Police, Mr Christian Tetteh Yohuno, the Police Professional Standards Bureau (PPSB) commenced investigation into allegations concerning the purported unauthorised withdrawal of GH₵400,000.00 from a momo account belonging to Derrick Okyere Dapaah (“Pablo”), a momo merchant in Kumasi.

The investigation has so far established that the GH₵400,000.00 in question forms part of the proceeds from a gold robbery and fraud incident currently under investigation.

On 8th December 2025, Police received a complaint from one Francis Ayaaba of Ejisu, that he was lured to a house at Ntoaso near Nsawam, under the pretext of a gold transaction. He indicated to the police that he had paid GH₵500,000.00 in cash and also transferred GH₵400,000.00 via mobile money as payment for a quantity of gold he had purchased. However, immediately after making the payment, some armed men showed up at the location and robbed him of the gold.

Police immediately commenced investigations into the case and traced the GH₵400,000.00 payment to mobile money accounts linked to the complainant, Derrick Okyere Dapaah (Pablo). The Investigation also established that Derrick Okyere (Pablo) further moved the funds between two other mobile money accounts belonging to him. The GHC 400,000.00 was later withdrawn by one Abudu Dauda, with a Ghana Card bearing the name Isagali Promise. According to him, he did the withdrawal on behalf of one Alhaji Ibrahim.

Police applied to the court and secured court orders for the mobile numbers involved to be frozen, the Ghc 400,000.00 transaction to be reversed and for the amount to be withdrawn and held by Police as exhibit pending the outcome of the case.

Further investigations led to the arrest of suspects Abudu Dauda, Prince Ofori and William Nene Sakitey Osabotey, a goldsmith and owner of the premises where the gold transaction took place.

As part of the investigation, Derrick Okyere Dapaah (Pablo) was also arrested and charged with abetment of crime.

All four accused persons, namely William Nene Sakitey Osabotey, Abudu Dauda, Prince Ofori, and Derrick Okyere Dapaah, were put before the court and have been granted bail to reappear on 29th April 2026.

Meanwhile, efforts are ongoing to arrest the remaining suspects, identified as Alex and Alhaji Ibrahim, who are currently at large”.

Rare footage of the 1962 historic game between the Black Stars and Real Madrid has been shared on social media.

Reports suggest that Dr Kwame Nkrumah, Ghana’s first president, sought to show the world the country’s football prowess as an emerging powerhouse in Africa during the 1960s.

A TikToker who posted the rare footage of the game between the Black Stars and Real Madrid wrote, “Rare footage captures the historic 1962 international friendly match between Ghana’s national football team, the Black Stars, and the world-renowned Real Madrid of Spain. The exciting encounter took place at the Accra Sports Stadium”.

“Real Madrid started the game strong, immediately putting the Black Stars on the defensive in the opening five minutes. Despite the early pressure, Agrifin, who captained the home team, delivered a brilliant performance, showcasing excellent combinations with his forwards”.

“The Black Stars took the lead in the seventeenth minute when centre forward Edward Aquah, after receiving a pass from inside left Agrifin, scored the first goal of the match. Real Madrid then shifted the momentum, forcing the Black Stars into a defensive stance for a period. Puskas, a key player for the visiting team, managed to equalise with a header in the thirtieth minute.

Shortly after the equaliser, left winger Baba Yara initiated a skilful move that dismantled Real Madrid’s entire defence. Though his shot was initially punched out by goalkeeper Aragones, an unmarked Adu was on hand to tap in the rebound, putting the Black Stars ahead once more. This captivating match offers a glimpse into a significant moment in football history”.

In related news, Veteran Ghanaian commentator Joe Lartey has revealed reasons behind the late Dr Kwame Nkrumah’s decision to invite European football giants Real Madrid to play against the Black Stars.

In an interview with Kafui Dey, Lartey explained Nkrumah’s perspective, saying, “Kwame Nkrumah discovered the importance of unity, especially in politics. He attended school at Achimota and did a bit of sports, and he realised that football, in particular, had a strong unifying force.”

“After appointing Ohene Gyan as Director of Sports for Ghana, he sometimes planned with him some of the sports activities organised. Nkrumah worked solo in inviting Real Madrid to play with the Black Stars team. The idea was to show how far we’ve developed in football.”

“We were then just beginning to show our strength in football. There was a big debate about whether it was proper for the Black Stars to play against a world-famous club side like Real Madrid because they were champions in Europe and dreaded by opponents,” Lartey stated.

In recent times, Ralf Rangnick, the head coach of Austria, has told Ghanaians not to be too emotional following the Black Stars’ humiliating 5-1 defeat to his side.

Churches don’t trust their cash team…Why? – Uncle Ebo Whyte quizzes

Renowned playwright and CEO of Roverman Productions, Uncle Ebo Whyte, has quizzed why Churches don’t trust their members.

According to Uncle Ebo Whyte, the cash team in many churches is drawn from the most mature and committed members, yet the rooms where they count money have CCTV cameras.

He also highlighted that those who count the church money are also not allowed to take in their bags and purses in the counting room.

In a post on TikTok, Uncle Ebo Whyte wrote, “The cash team in many churches are drawn from the most mature and committed members, and yet the rooms where they count money have CCTV cameras, and they are not allowed to take in their bags and purses.

If the churches cannot trust their most mature and committed members, even with God’s money, who can trust them? Can their employers trust them? Can their spouses trust them?

The reality is that most Ghanaians say we believe one thing, and then do the opposite.

Or could it be that sometimes we act against what we claim to believe simply because we have not given it serious thought?”

His post further added, “When I worked with Asempa Publishers in the mid-80s, my boss and I delivered invitation letters for board meetings. One board member, a bank’s financial controller, read his letter and said, “James, this invites me to a 2 p.m. meeting, yet I have sold my 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. to my employer. Do you want me to steal my employer’s time?”

I had never thought of it that way. We later moved such meetings to 5 p.m. And I keep asking myself: why did it not occur to us that a 2 p.m. meeting was asking someone to steal from their employer? That experience taught me how easy it is to do the wrong thing simply because we have not thought it through.

So I am wondering: do we do wrong because we have not thought, or because we choose to?
When we drop litter, jump red lights, demand years of rent in advance, underpay workers, or waste people’s time, do we realise what we are doing?
It is time to let what we say we believe shape our actions. And it is time we gave serious thought to our choices, because we may be destroying Ghana without even realising it. That should change”.

Uncle Ebo White further advertised his upcoming show, “My play I DO, I DON’T shows March 27th–29th; April 3rd–6th (Easter Weekend) at the National Theatre. Dial *365*535# or use the Roverapp, or visit outlets for tickets. Enquiries: 050 554 6010 / 050 554 6030 (WhatsApp)”

“I came to help, but they sacked me like a goat” – Henry Quartey

0

Henry Quartey, a former Interior and Greater Accra Regional Minister, has cried out after being sacked from the collapsed storey building site at Accra Newtown, a suburb of the Greater Accra Region, on March 29, 2026.

According to Henry Quartey, he came to help at the collapsed storey building site, but he was sacked like a goat by the National Security, police and soldiers.

The former Interior and Greater Accra Regional Minister accused security agencies of politicising the rescue mission.

Speaking to the media, Henry Quartey vented out his anger, “I am so disappointed that people are trapped, and we are all trying to help. Wherever I go and stand, they raise issues. After serving this constituency for 12 years, they are now doing politics with this. It is so disgraceful.

“When I was MP, whenever something happened, I collaborated with the NDC to address it. But now that there is a disaster, they are sacking an NPP person. It is very disgraceful. Why? This is bad politics.”

He further alleged that personnel from national security, the police and the military forced him out of the area.

“National security, police and soldiers are sacking me like a goat, and I want the whole world to know. I came to help, but they have sacked me, so I am leaving.

“I am pinning this on the Ghana Police Service. Having served as the Interior Minister before, I believe they have shown misconduct today. It is very disrespectful.”

Meanwhile, Mohammed Muntaka Mubarak, the Interior Minister, has revealed that three people have died following the collapse of a three-storey building at Accra New Town.

Twenty victims rescued so far have been hospitalised, receiving treatment at various health facilities.

Also, Personnel from the Ghana Police Service, the Ghana National Fire Service, the National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO), and the National Ambulance Service have all been deployed as rescue teams continue to search through the debris.

The rescue teams suggest some victims were earlier heard calling for help from beneath the rubble, but the cause of the collapse remains unknown.

2026 defining year for Mahama gov’t, next year is campaign mode – Senyo Hosi

0

Senyo Hosi, a Finance and economic policy analyst, has said 2026 is the defining year for the ND led John Mahama government.

According to Senyo Hosi, the real state of the Mahama government will be evaluated after this year.

Senyo Hosi further told President John Dramani Mahama that his honeymoon period in government is over.

Meanwhile, Nana Aba Anamoah, a renowned Ghanaian media personality, has showered praises on the second coming of President John Dramani Mahama back into office.

According to Nana Aba Anamoah, he would rate the John Mahama-led NDC government 75% to 80%.

Nana Aba Anamoah detailed that the second coming of John Mahama has brought in a much-needed era of economic stability and ministerial humility compared to what Ghanaians witnessed under the past government.

The veteran Journalist asserted that President John Mahama has also learnt his lesson because in his first term, there were bouts of arrogance with his appointees.

Speaking in an interview on Joy FM’s Showbiz A-Z on Saturday, 21st February 2026, Nana Aba Anamoah stated, “I will give the 75% to 80% because I think that His Excellency John Dramani Mahama has stabilised the economy… I think his Finance Minister is doing an excellent job. The economy is doing very well now compared to the last three to four years. Things were quite turbulent”.

“There was too much arrogance… from the previous administration. You could listen from their utterances on the radio, the way they were so dismissive of journalists and their commentary. It was just very, very arrogant,” she remarked.

“But I think that the second coming of JM is a great one. He’s learned his lessons because his first term also had bouts of arrogance—not with him, but with his appointees. But things are different now, it’s just a year, maybe too early in the day. But I think that the trajectory looks good, it looks positive, and I am happy with the work they are doing so far. The appointees are careful, they are handson, they show up”.

Nana Aba Anamoah further went on to list a few ministers she has noted who are doing an excellent job, saying, “I will give credit to the Gender minister; she is very responsive, she jumps on issues very quickly, she doesn’t wait for days to respond, she is doing an excellent job. The Foreign Minister is also very accessible; you tweet at him, he responds, and a few of the appointees are doing very well.

“My favourite really is Oboubia. I like what Oboubia is doing with Mahamacares. The way she goes to the hospitals and it’s become a weekly thing… I like that,” Nana Aba added.

“Everybody knows this building is very, very weak” – Resident speaks after Accra Newtown building collapse

0

A resident of Accra New Town has said everyone in the community knows the Accra Newtown Experimental School building was very weak.

Your honeymoon is over, focus on substantive issues – Mahama told

Senyo Hosi, a Finance and economic policy analyst, has told President John Dramani Mahama that his honeymoon period back in government is over.

According to Senyo Hosi, the Mahama government must focus on substantive issues that affect our people, like production and employment for our youth.

Production, employment for our youth, we are looking clearly about accountability”.

In related news, Dr Okoe-Boye, the Former Health Minister, has taken a swipe at the John Mahama-led government over their inability to fund one shift of public workers after promising three shifts in opposition.

According to Okoe-Boye, the NDC has been trapped by their words and must apologise to Ghanaian youths for its deception during the 2024 campaign.

Dr Okoe-Boye highlighted that the NDC promised Ghanaians youths three shifts, but are now borrowing ¢17 billion just to meet public sector wage obligations in 2025.

Speaking on Accra-based Asempa FM, Dr Okoe Boye explained, “When the NDC was talking about the 133, they were speaking to what they can control and not the private sector. Typical of the NDC, the first shift, they do not have the money to cover the wage bill. Men are trapped by the words. Even the wage bill for the first shift, OB, you think…

John Mahama is a handsome man and has been a president before. He would have employed more people in his first term, but the reason why he couldn’t is that he knows there is something called a wage bill”.

Dr Okoe-Boye added, “But in 2024, they told the whole youth that instead of one shift…I was on Metro TV, and I said the only reason why you don’t run a three-shift system just like that is that you have to check the wage bill of the first shift. Today, Ato Forson is telling you that under this recovered economy, when they pay the three statutory funds, he has to borrow to pay workers”.

“The point I’m making is that at the time they were promising, 133 the finance minister, Ato Forson, was aware that in the previous government under Akufo-Addo, the money that we generate as a country, after paying the District Assemblies’ common fund, GETFUND, and Health Insurance, it becomes difficult to pay for salaries.

That is the reason why the government introduced the capping policy…OB, when you use smartness and duplicity to get power, the victims of these games wait for you at the polls in three years. Sometimes it is better to be silent and reflect because the more you talk about it, the more you anger the people you played games with,” he explained.

His comments follows, Dr Cassiel Ato Forson, the Finance Minister, has revealed that the government borrowed approximately GH¢17 billion just to meet public sector wage obligations in 2025.

The Finance Minister detailed that Ghana spent 44 per cent of its total tax revenue on public sector wages in 2025.

According to Ato Forson, Ghana’s wage bill consumes 44% of tax revenue, forcing the government to borrow to pay salaries.

Report by TV3 stated, “out of total tax revenue of GH¢183 billion in 2025, statutory obligations, including transfers to DACF, GETFund, NHIL, and debt servicing, consumed GH¢122.1 billion, leaving only GH¢61.9 billion available.

However, the government’s wage bill alone amounted to GH¢78.9 billion, creating a financing gap that forced the state to borrow approximately GH¢17 billion just to meet salary obligations.

Stay far away from Gabby; he contributed to the NPP’s apathy – Bawumia warned

0

Atik Mohammed, a National Youth Organiser hopeful for the New Patriotic Party (NPP), has told Dr Mahamudu Bawumia to distance himself from Gabby Otchere Darko.

According to Atik Mohammed, it is not good optics for the new NPP Bawumia to seek to build if he has a close association with Gabby Otchere Darko.

He highlighted that Gabby and his kind played a major role in the growth of the apathy that impacted Bawumia’s fortunes in the 2024 election.

Atik Mohammed asserted that Gabby had his time and did what they did with it, adding that it’s time for him to take a back seat or no seat at all.

Atik Mohammed is quoted to have said, “Dr Bawumia must guard against even the appearance of close association with the likes of Gabby. It is not good optics for the new NPP he seeks to build, and certainly not for his chances in the next election.

Gabby and his kind played a major role directly and otherwise in the growth of the apathy that impacted his fortunes in the last election. Not every NPP member needs to be close with the Flagbearer, especially the Gabbys of the party.

They had their time and did what they did with it. Time to take a backseat or no seat at all and allow the Flagbearer to steer the party in the new and promising direction he’s on. From the republic of Gambaga, I say we watch, and we judge,” he said.

In related news, Gabby Otchere-Darko has said the NPP is in his blood.

According to Gabby Otchere-Darko, his grandfather was JB Danquah, adding that he was also born into the NPP tradition.

He further highlighted that although he may not be active, he still loves the NPP.

Speaking in an interview with Serwaa Amihere on GHOne TV, Gabby Otchere-Darko was asked whether he is still a member of the NPP. He responded, he responded saying, “ You know what I call myself, I think the NPP is in my blood, my grandfather was JB Danquah, I was born into the tradition, so I have nowhere to go, and I love being where I am.

I may not be active, which I’m not, but of course I am NPP”.

Meanwhile, Alamzy Billa Nikyema, the National Democratic Congress(NDC) Member of Parliament for Chiana-Paga, has claimed the current New Patriotic Party (NPP) and it Presidential candidate Dr Mahamudu Bawumia cannot even win an SRC election.

According to Alamzy Billa Nikyema, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia and the current NPP lack the political strength needed to win public support, doubting the party’s ability to regain political power in the future.

The NDC MP stressed that NPP members still confidently speak about winning the 2028 general elections when the party is struggling to maintain credibility among Ghanaians.

Alamzy Billa Nikyema stressed that the NPP failed Ghanaians in government, which left public dissatisfaction with the party, adding that the NPP will face challenges in convincing voters at the grassroots.

Speaking on the floor of parliament, Alamzy Billa Nikyema stated, “These people failed us with audacity, they failed us with audacity, and the most bizarre part is that any time they are making contributions, they will tell us that when we win power in 2028. Mr Speaker, my question is with which party and with which candidate?

“Mr Speaker, your current party, and your current candidate, you cannot even use the party and your current candidate to win SRC elections,” Mr Nikyema said.

During the interview, COP Lydia Donkor gave a spirited rendition of Ghana’s national anthem, with host Bola Ray showering her with praise and going further to predict her rise to the highest office in the police service.

Bola Ray declared, “Ladies and gentlemen, after IGP Yohuno, your next IGP, Ghana’s first female substantive IGP, COP Lydia Donkor. We wish you the best”

“But Lydia, aside from everything, you are diligent, you are a great soul, you love human beings, and you are a professional. Keep up the good work and may God guide and see you through,” he added.

Also, Lydia Yaako Donkor has revealed she has been trained and ready for the Inspector General of Police (IGP) role.

According to Lydia Donkor,  if the appointing authority deems it fit for her to be appointed, she will accept the offer, as anybody is capable of becoming IGP once they are at the rank of commissioner.

COP Donkor added, “Everybody’s capable of being an IGP. Once you’re at the rank of commissioner, anybody can be picked to be IGP… Of course, I mentioned that every commissioner at this level is capable of being appointed.

“So, if the appointing authorities deem it fit for me to be appointed, why not? I’ve been trained to be ready,” she said.

“The name ‘Big Push’ annoys me” – Miracles Aboagye

0

Dennis Miracles Aboagye, the Director of Communications, Dr Bawumia’s Campaign Team, has said the name “Big Push” annoys him.

According to Miracles Aboagye, he is annoyed with the name Big Push, questioning which government hasn’t constructed roads.

Miracles Aboagye is quoted by GHOne TV as saying, “The name ‘Big Push’ annoys me. Which government hasn’t constructed roads?”

Some Ghanaians reacting to Miracles Aboagye’s remarks stated, “But there was ‘Year of Roads, ‘ so does that one too annoy him? Which govt doesn’t construct roads?”.

“Which one doesn’t annoy you? “Big push” happening now and “Year of roads” which never happened? Which one? You NPP communicators aren’t helping the party. When you display jealousy when good things are happening, you rather annoy Ghanaians”, a netizen added.

“Your hatred for Ghana’s development is becoming unbecoming”, a netizen added.
“Because the name ‘Big Push’ finally destroyed the existence of NPP”, a netizen added.

In related news, the Roads Minister, Governs Kwame Agbodza, has rejected the reports claiming his ministry awarded 81 sole-sourced contracts worth over ₵73 billion in 7 months under Big Push.

According to the Roads Minister, only 44 per cent of Big Push contracts awarded by the Roads Ministry under President Mahama were through sole sourcing.

Speaking in Parliament on March 24, 2026, Governs Kwame Agbodza explained that a mix of procurement methods was used in line with the laws of Ghana.

On the floor of Parliament on Tuesday, March 24, 2026, Governs Kwame Agbodza stated, “Given the scale and importance of these projects, a mix of procurement processes was employed in accordance with the law”.

“It is important to note that only 44% of all the major contracts under the Big Push project were awarded by the ministry under sole sourcing, not what has been published by a certain online portal”.

According to Kwame Agbodza, more than 400 contracts had been awarded through open competitive bidding, which he described as unprecedented.

“We have also awarded over 400 contracts under open competitive bidding. Records show that from 2017 to 2024, almost all the projects carried out by the ministry were sole-sourced. It is therefore mischievous for any right-thinking member of society to conclude that the Ministry of Roads and Highways only procures works through sole sourcing,” he said.

The Fourth Estate publication, which suggested President John Dramani Mahama and his government have been playing lip service in terms of promises to minimise sole-source procurement to encourage competitive bidding.

President John Mahama, on numerous occasions, has reiterated his government’s commitment to make single-source procurement a rare exception rather than the norm.

In the NDC People’s Manifesto, they also pledged to “make single-sourced procurement (sole-sourcing) an exception and not the rule.”

John Mahama, during his recent SONA, also repeated his vow and commitment, “Mr Speaker, we are bringing legislation to this House to tighten our procurement processes by banning sole-sourced contracts, except in exceptional circumstances,” the President told Parliament.

“NPP communicators are not mature” – NPP man blasts party members over painting project

0

Abraham Boadi, popularly known as Opooman, a New Patriotic Party (NPP) communications team member, has fired shots at his fellow communicators following the brouhaha surrounding the painting at the Asokwa Interchange in Kumasi.

The initiative by the Ashanti Regional Minister, Dr Frank Amoakohene, has attracted criticism from some NPP members.

However, Opooman defended Dr Amoakohene, commending him for the initiative to beautify the city.

According to the NPP man, party members opposing the idea lack maturity. He argued that the party should have supported, as the minister was using products of Free SHS, which is a legacy of Akufo-Addo.

Speaking on Oyerepa FM, Opooman defended Dr Amoakohene, saying, “I am part of the Bawumia camp. When I realised they were doing it, either Bawumia’s people or regional executives should have bought water or added more paint and given it to them to participate in the project. The children are products of Free SHS, and this should be attributed to Nana Addo for giving them the opportunity to display their talent.

“But instead of being proud and sharing in the glory, you are condemning it. We should be strategic; it is not everything that we say. Most of our communicators are not mature. Some people speak anyhow. When he does something wrong, we criticize him, so why don’t we commend him when he does something good? The party needs intellectuals to speak and win votes,”

In related news, Dr Frank Amoakohene has clashed with Ghanaian broadcaster Paul Adom-Otchere following a viral video of the minister in a jovial mood, teasing a portrait of former President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo at the Asokwa Interchange.

The Ashanti Regional Minister in the viral video was touring ongoing painting works in Kumasi when he paused at the portrait of the former president, bowing slightly before the artwork.

However, Paul Adom-Otchere, speaking on his Good Evening Ghana show, heavily criticised the minister by questioning his doctoral credentials.

Paul Adom-Otchere highlighted that the Ashanti Regional Minister does not present himself as a medical doctor.

According to him, Dr Frank Amoakohene’s level of reasoning is below standard.

Paul Adom-Otchere, speaking on his Good Evening Ghana show, stated, “I saw that he posted something on social media, pretending to tease us. We didn’t engage because we are not about teasing people; we are about thinking and making things happen.

“I don’t know what he did before entering politics, but I know his doctorate is not in medicine. In tech, you can complete a four-year programme and be called a doctor, but it is not medicine… I get the sense that he is playing and not serious. I am not sure he belongs to a group of young people we should have confidence in,” he said.

The Ashanti Regional Minister, in a Facebook post, later hit back at Paul Adom-Otchere.

Dr Amoakohene rejected Paul Adom-Otchere’s claims, insisting that he is a certified medical doctor and not a school dropout, like he was.

According to the Ashanti Regional Minister, Paul Adom-Otchere could not complete his law education.

In his Facebook post, he wrote, “Tell ‘Christmas Tree’ that I am a medical doctor. I am not a dropout like him, who could not complete his law education. When you had the opportunity, you chose to sell Christmas trees.

“I chose to be innovative, so if you want to defame me, at least do your due diligence. Below is my academic background at 35. I dare ‘Christmas Tree’ to share his academic background at 51 and explain why he was sacked from law school,” he stated.

The Ashanti Regional Minister further rejected claims by Adom-Otchere that the New Patriotic Party (NPP), under the administration of John Agyekum Kufuor, completed the Asokwa Interchange.

“‘Christmas Tree’, facts: The Asokwa Interchange was started by President Kufuor in June 2008, six months to the elections, and completed by President John Evans Atta Mills in October 2011. Keep these facts, because one day the Suame Interchange will be wholly claimed by people like ‘Christmas Tree’,” he stated.

George Opare Addo, the National Youth Organiser for the National Democratic Congress (NDC) and Minister of Youth Development and Empowerment of Ghana, has told dissatisfied NDC grassroots that there are better days ahead.

The NDC National Youth Organiser told dissatisfied NDC grassroots that the government is working to empower the grassroots.

According to George Opare Addo, he acknowledged that the party leadership understand their concerns, but he is optimistic that “better days are ahead”.

In a social media post shared George Opare Addo, wrote, “On Wednesday, March 25, in my capacity as National Youth Organiser, together with my deputies, I began a series of engagements with the regional youth wings, starting with the Greater Accra Region.

These meetings are designed to foster open dialogue with our Youth Organisers, creating space for frank conversations on the current state of the party and matters arising.

I used the opportunity to reaffirm to our Commanders the government’s and the party’s unwavering commitment to empowering our grassroots base through targeted initiatives that strengthen participation, build capacity, and expand opportunities for young people. While acknowledging the challenges we face, I emphasised that better days are ahead. #YouthPower“.

In related news, a video has surfaced of some irate supporters of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) locking up the district office of the National Health Insurance Authority (NHIA) at Ejisu.

The NDC youths are protesting over the neglect of party loyalists in government appointments.

Reports detailed that the NDC supporters stormed the premises of the NHIA office and locked the facility, temporarily disrupting operations.

According to the individuals, they worked tirelessly for the NDC  ahead of the 2024 elections, but have been overlooked in the distribution of government positions.

The NDC supporters believe their contributions to the party’s electoral success have not been recognised.

Meanwhile, the National Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Johnson Asiedu Nketia, has told disgruntled party members that President John Mahama cannot appoint everyone.

According to Asiedu Nketia, appointments under the current Mahama administration are limited; however urged party supporters who are yet to receive appointments to remain calm and exercise patience.

The NDC National Chairman further stressed that it is practically impossible to appoint all deserving members at the same time, citing the constitutional restrictions placed on the president’s appointment.

Asiedu Nketia further urged party members to avoid resorting to anger or public criticism and to use internal channels to seek redress for their grievances.

Speaking during his Thank You Tour at Winneba in the Effutu Constituency on Thursday, February 12, Asiedu Nketia, stated, “I am aware that some of you are unhappy because you did not get to be appointed to any position upon our return to power. This is understandable. It is the reason why I am embarking on this ‘Thank You Tour’, to explain issues for your understanding.

“The challenge is that, given the number of appointments that the constitution permits President Mahama to make, not all members of the NDC can be taken care of. So be patient. There is no need to be angry with the party.”

“You have elected a good president who is doing a good job. Everyone acknowledges this fact, including some members of the opposition. So, I urge you to be patient with the government. If you have any concerns that have not been addressed yet. There is time for everything. Your concerns will be addressed. All you need to do is to channel them through the right quarters, and it will be resolved,” he assured.

In addition, Johnson Asiedu Nketiah, has urged Ghanaians and party members to exercise patience as President John Mahama works to provide opportunities for everyone.

According to Johnson Asiedu Nketiah, the anger being displayed by Ghanaian youths over the low intake of applicants in Ghana’s security services will not solve anything.

The NDC Chairman detailed that the first priority is to strengthen the economy, which will create more employment opportunities for Ghanaian youth.

Speaking to party supporters in Dodowa in the Greater Accra Region, Asiedu Nketiah stated, “The anger will not solve the problem. Without sufficient funds, how can we employ more than necessary? Fixing issues takes time. The first priority is to strengthen the economy, and President Mahama is working diligently on this.

“We are already beginning to see the benefits. We must exercise a little more patience to allow these efforts to create opportunities for everyone,” he said.

He added, “Rising impatience will not help. Let us learn to be patient. Things will improve, and this government is committed to opening up opportunities for all.”

A leader who is grassroots personified, who values every member from our elders to the youthfu allies, and who is willing to make the ultimate sacrifices for the party

Bernard Antwi-Boasiako (Chairman Wontumi), having consulted my Maker and sought the counsel of party elders, hereby declare my intention to serve as National Chairman of the New Patriotic Party. I do so not for personal ambition, but to strengthen, rebuild, and unify our great part.

The road ahead will demand vision, courage, and unwavering determination. Leadership at this moment requires bravery—the courage to stand firm, make difficult decisions, and be willing to lose everything if necessary for the NPP.

We are ready. We are organised. We are built for the battle ahead.

Together, we will restore confidence, empower our grassroots, and position the NPP to win decisively in 2028. This is our moment to rise, to lead, and to deliver for the NPP”.
