Apostolic Church-Ghana bans ‘you may kiss the bride’ at wedding ceremonies

0

The Apostolic Church-Ghana has announced that it has banned the practice of kissing of bride before the altar during wedding ceremonies.

According to the Apostolic Church-Ghana, the decision was approved by the church’s Council of Apostles and Prophets, which has now been adopted by delegates at the 6th General Council Meeting.

The Apostolic Church-Ghana detailed that the directive forms part of efforts to uphold doctrinal standards and maintain reverence during solemn marriage rites.

The Church stressed that the new policy is expected to apply to all assemblies of The Apostolic Church-Ghana and will guide officiating ministers during wedding ceremonies.

In a news card shared by TV3, it read, “Apostolic Church-Ghana has banned the practice of kissing the bride before the altar during marriage ceremonies on wedding days”.

This decision, approved by the Council of Apostles and Prophets (CAP), was adopted by delegates at the 6th General Council Meeting held at the TAC Conference Centre, Fafraha, Accra, on March 28

President Ami-Narh explained that the decision was taken to curb the excesses and inappropriateness that have come to characterise some wedding practices, which are considered alien to Ghanaian cultural and spiritual values.

According to the official statement, “The Council of Apostles and Prophets has decided to expunge the ‘you may kiss the bride aspect from our wedding ceremonies owing to its inappropriateness within our cultural setting.”

t noted that while such practices may be acceptable in Western contexts where they form part of the culture, they do not align with the values upheld by the Church.

Throwing more light on the directive, the President emphasised that the honour of marriage must be preserved and upheld. Rather than being diluted even before couples come to the altar. He added that Christian values before marriage must be promoted and respected as a means of honouring God.

The announcement was met with thunderous applause and cheers from delegates, who expressed their support for the decision as a step toward safeguarding the youth from prevailing social media influences and excesses”.

Some Ghanaians reacting to the development stated, “That thing has never made sense. Everyone knows (implicitly) what you’ve been doing to yourselves before and/or after the ceremony. So what’s that act supposed to represent? A public display of your adwaman level?”

“Western church, western culture, western rules. Stick to your traditional weddings and have your pastor bless them, too. It’s the same. You can’t show me how to bond and show love on my August day. Judas even pecked Jesus on his last day”, a netizen added.

“Gradually, the white gown will also go, then they won’t call traditional marriage engagement”, a netizen added.

One more Ghanaian wrote, “Reasons below. According to the official statement, the Council of Apostles and Prophets has decided to expunge the ‘you may kiss the bride’ aspect from our wedding ceremonies owing to its inappropriateness within our cultural setting.’

It noted that while such practices may be acceptable in Western contexts where they form part of the culture, they do not align with the values upheld by the Church”.

“The cemetery is the proper place for burial; no one should bury their relatives in private homes” – Okyenhene

0

Osagyefuo Amoatia Ofori Panin, the Okyenhene, has outlawed private burials conducted at homes and on personal land.

According to the Okyebhene, the cemetery is the proper burial place, stressing that private burials conducted at homes and on personal land contravene the customs and traditions of his jurisdiction.

The Okyenhene detailed that the increasing use of boreholes in homes makes the practice a health concern.

Osagyefuo Amoatia Ofori Panin further detailed that all district assemblies within Akyem Abuakwa will be formally notified.

Also disclosing that chiefs are the custodians of the land, which prevents the assemblies from granting permits for burials in private homes.

In a viral video shared on X, Osagyefuo Amoatia Ofori Panin stated, “From now on, no one should bury their relatives in private homes. The cemetery is the proper place for burial.

In this modern era, where people even drill boreholes at home for water, burying someone in the house is not appropriate. It goes against Akyeman customary rules to bury relatives at home. Find a way to lay the dead to rest in cemeteries, not in homes”.

In related news, Rev Ankrah, the spokesperson for the Gborbu Wulomo-Shitse, has told the family of the late Highlife legend Daddy Lumba that they must perform traditional rites to pacify the gods of the Ga Dangme land.

According to the Ga Dangme leaders, it is dirty to have dead bodies come closer to their deities.

Rev Ankrah further explained that the laws of Ghana and Ga Adangbe don’t allow Daddy Lumba to be buried at home, adding that Lumba’s family must pacify the gods.

Beyond the spiritual concerns, he further cited that burying a body in a residential environment could raise potential health and environmental issues.

Speaking on March 12, 2026, in a video shared on X, Rev Ankrah explained, “It is dirty to have dead bodies coming closer to our deities, and the spirits around us do not permit that. If you do that, you have to pacify not just the land but the deities and traditional leadership that have control over the territory where this body has been buried”.

“We will extend invitation to the same family. Whether they have a family head or not, they appear here. If the body is removed from the soil, they would still have to pacify the deities of the land and the community. And then answer questions that we are going to put to them,” he stated.

Meanwhile, the Overlord of GaDangme has summoned the family head of the late Daddy Lumba, Abusuapanyin Kofi Owusu, commonly known as Abusuapanyin Tupac.

According to the Ga chiefs, Abusuapanyin Tupac has been summoned in connection with reports and confirmation by Lumba’s family head that the late singer was laid to rest in his private residence in East Legon.

On March 10, 2026, in a letter, the office of Gborbu Wulomo-Shitsɛ, Nungua traditional area, directed Abusuapanyin Tupac to appear before Wor Lumor Konor Nuumo Borkete Laweh Tsuru at the palace in Nungua on March 13, 2026, at 11:30 am.

Parts of the letter read, “This summons arises in connection with reports and public concerns regarding the alleged burial of the late Charles Kojo Fosu (Daddy Lumba) at his private residence located in East Legon, Accra,” part of the statement read.

“As the Family Head (Abusuapanyin) of the late Charles Kojo Fosu, your presence is required to provide the necessary explanation and engagement on the matter in accordance with customary protocols and to assist in addressing the concerns raised”.

“Your cooperation in this matter is highly expected in the interest of maintaining harmony, respect for tradition, and peaceful resolution of the issues raised. Kindly treat this summons with the urgency and respect it deserves,” the statement further indicated.

The development follows Abusuapanyin Tupac, who has said people claiming they do not know where the late musician was buried are telling lies.

According to Abusuapanyin Tupac, people are claiming ignorance about the burial site when they choose not to attend the singer’s funeral.

Abusuapanyin Tupac further confirmed earlier claims by Afia Schwarzenegger, who stated Daddy Lumba was buried at his residence in East Legon, Accra.

He detailed that Daddy Lumba was buried at his residence in East Legon in accordance with his dying wish.

Akpene Tetteh, a 37‑year‑old Ghanaian doctoral student at Virginia Commonwealth University, was fatally shot in broad daylight.

Reports suggest that the Ghanaian doctoral student was shot in broad daylight in early February.

According to reports, a teenager at the scene was arrested, with the case now at the Superior Court as investigations into the circumstances surrounding her death continue.

Reports suggest the arrested juvenile is being charged as an adult.

The information gathered suggests that when the incident first occurred, police released only a brief statement, confirming that a woman had been shot and killed and that a teen suspect had been taken into custody.

The Ghanaian doctoral student was described by the Virginia Commonwealth University School of Public Health as an exceptional student and a valued member of their community.

The late Akpene Tetteh was pursuing her PhD in the Department of Health Policy and was on track to complete her degree this summer, and was working on her dissertation, which focused on improving health outcomes for adults with diabetes in the US.

Some netizens reacting to the tragic news stated, “Justice for Akpene. How is the shooter a teenager but charged as an adult?”.

“This country, where your safety is not assured, is where a lot are dreaming to go”, a netizen added.

One more X user added, “African leaders should make our continent great so we can stay home and enjoy Mother Africa”.

In related news, Michael Ababio, an 18-year-old Ghanaian man abroad, has been stabbed to death.

According to reports, the Ghanaian abroad was stabbed outside a library in Coventry, UK.

Reports suggest Michael Ababio was fatally injured outside Foleshill Library on Broad Street at about 21:40 GMT on Sunday.

He was later pronounced dead in hospital early on Monday morning,  according to the West Midlands Police.

Also, a 19-year-old man was taken to the hospital with stab wounds after being found nearby.

The 19-year-old was later arrested on suspicion of murder.

The late Michael Ababio’s brother paid tribute on behalf of his family, saying, “He aligned with everything that I liked. Words cannot express the pain we are all feeling right now.”

The BBC, in a new report, stated, “In a tribute released through police, Ababio’s twin said most people won’t know what it is like to have a twin, but I do”.

“Michael was more than just a brother, he was my second half.”

The sibling also said, “You will be greatly missed. Our family will never be the same, but we hope you’re in a better place now.”

Detective Superintendent Jim Munro, from the force’s homicide team, said: “If you saw what happened, or you know why someone may have wanted to hurt Michael, please do the right thing for his family and let us know.”

Police are also investigating further disorder that happened on nearby Foleshill Road about 20 minutes after the fatal attack – although the force does not believe that incident is directly related to Ababio’s death.

Four people have been arrested in connection with that disorder.

One has since been charged with assault and remanded in custody. The others have been bailed while the investigation continues”.

“Abu Trica was set up by an FBI informant” – Barker-Vormawor details

0

Oliver Barker-Vormawor, the lawyer for embattled Ghanaian socialite Frederick Kumi, popularly known as Abu Trica, has detailed how a Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) agent set up his client.

According to Oliver Barker-Vormawor, Abu Trica was set up by an FBI informant who approached him, saying that he was expecting some 50,000 dollars.

He alleged that the FBI informant asked Abu Trica to help find a bank account for them to transfer the money into, where he would receive 13,000 dollars if he found an account.

In a post on X, Oliver Barker-Vormawor wrote, “Let’s Talk Abu Trica.

Abu Trica was set up by an FBI informant who approached him, saying that he was expecting some 50,000 dollars. And that Abu Trica should help find a bank account for them to transfer the money into.

His share would be 13,000 dollars if he found an account. Abu Trica went around asking different people because he thought he was making 13,000 dollars. Someone gave him an account, which he gave to the FBI undercover agents. And he was paid 13,000 dollars”.

He added, “This is the entire evidence the FBI provided. When Abu was arrested, the FBI came to him to give them the name of the person whose account it was.

Abu didn’t. Before the matter went to court, they had EOCO Issue a press statement claiming that Abu had scammed people of 8 million dollars. There is no 8 million USD anywhere. We are here because of 13,000 dollars”.

Barker-Vormawor disclosed that Abu Trica was charged with conspiracy to commit wire fraud, “Now Abu was charged with conspiracy to commit wire fraud. We presented the magistrate with 80 pages of legal argument, tracing the history of the Extradition Treaty, showing that the offence of conspiracy is not an extraditable offence.

Now, the matter is under appeal, so I won’t say more than that. Except that in my whole life, I have never met a judge so eager to extradite a person before. Complete refusal to follow due process. Her mind was made up from day 1.

The truth is, out of 200 requests Ghanaian has received, all 200 have been extradited by our courts. 200-0 oo. If our Courts are willing to follow the law, not be afraid of America, Abu’s case will be 200-1”.

Oliver Barker-Vormawor’s remarks follow Abu Trica, who is set to be extradited to the US to face his $8 million romance scam after the Gbese District Court granted a request to surrender.

Reports suggest that Abu Trica and his legal team have been granted 15 days to challenge the decision.

According to this, the extradition process will not take place until the expiration of the 15 days allowed for a habeas corpus application.

Speaking after the court’s ruling on Friday, March 27, 2026, a legal team member representing Abu Trica, Rosemary, stated, “I’m a lawyer in the case of the Republic v. Frederick Kumi. We filed various preliminary legal objections regarding his extradition, but the court has dismissed them. It’s actually part of the process”.

“Extradition processes are usually very fast, but we’ve managed to delay it slightly to protect his interests. Still, the court continues to dismiss our applications,” she said.

Abu Trica’s lawyer added, “We filed a preliminary objection requesting disclosure of the items seized, arguing that they do not belong to Frederick Kumi and are unrelated to the extradition offence. The court, however, ruled against us. The case was adjourned for 15 days, during which we are expected to file a habeas corpus application”.

“We believe that when we file the habeas corpus, we’ll be able to present our arguments fully and explain why Frederick cannot be extradited. Our hopes are cautious, but we remain optimistic,” she concluded.

Background

Abu Trica, a 31-year-old Ghanaian from Swedru, was arrested for his alleged involvement in an $8 million romance scam which targeted elderly victims in the United States.

He was arrested in Ghana on December 11, 2025, following an investigation conducted by the FBI Cleveland Division and is being prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Brian M. McDonough for the Northern District of Ohio.

The US Department of Justice wrote, “According to the indictment, perpetrators of this romance scam used Artificial Intelligence software to assume false identities and form close personal relationships with victims. They gained victims’ trust to obtain money and valuables, often targeting individuals through social media and online dating platforms under false pretences.

Victims were often elderly and engaged in romantic but physically distant relationships with perpetrators. The perpetrators built trust through frequent, intimate conversations by phone, email, and messaging platforms. They then requested money or valuables under false pretenses, such as urgent medical needs, travel expenses, or investment opportunities. Relying on these misrepresentations, victims were persuaded to send funds or valuables, which were then directed to co-conspirators posing as third parties.

The indictment also alleges that after the victims transferred funds, Kumi worked with a network of co-conspirators to distribute the money from Ohio and across the United States to associates in the Republic of Ghana and other locations.

Kumi has been charged with conspiracy to commit wire fraud, money laundering conspiracy, and a forfeiture specification, and faces up to 20 years in prison”.

It further added, “If convicted, a defendant’s sentence will be determined by the Court after a review of factors unique to this case, including a defendant’s prior criminal record, if any, his role in the offence, and the characteristics of the violation. In all cases, the sentences will not exceed the statutory maximum, and in most cases, it will be less than the maximum.

An indictment is only a charge and is not evidence of guilt. A defendant is entitled to a fair trial in which it is the government’s burden to prove guilt beyond a reasonable doubt”.

“Disregard the disinformation” – Roads Minister reject allegation of awarding Big Push contract worth GHS146m to a firm with 1 worker

0

The Roads Minister, Governs Kwame Agbodza, has rejected the claims made by the Executive Director of the Media Foundation for West Africa (MFWA), Sulemana Braimah.

According to Sulemana Braimah, some companies awarded sole-sourced contracts under the government’s Big Push infrastructure programme have insignificant staff.

Sulemana Braimah detailed that documents provided by the Ministry of Roads and Highways show that one of the companies awarded sole-sourced Big Push contracts has four workers; another has one worker.

Sulemana Braimah detailed that the company with just one worker was awarded the Big Push sole-sourced contract worth GHS146million.

Speaking on JoyNews Newsfile on Saturday, 28 March, Sulemana Braimah stated, “One of the companies awarded sole-sourced Big Push contracts has four workers; another has one worker.”

“This is Senam Ghana, they have four workers, sole-sourced for a big push contract, we are told no wheelbarrows. There is even one here that says one worker. This is Build Managers Limited. It is here in the contract that your ministry has signed, they are doing a contract worth GHS 146 million. There is even a lot about this contract, the 146 million, 30 million is allocated for the maintenance of the department of feeder Roads headquarters”.

He explained that the figures were obtained directly from the Ministry’s Big Push Master Register.

Sulemana Braimah further detailed that the recent report by The Fourth Estate, a project of MFWA, which highlighted concerns over sole-sourced contracts, was based on official records from the road ministry after they initially requested access to the documents under the Right to Information Act but were denied, which lead to an appeal to obtain them.

However, the roads minister, in a sharp rebuttal on X, has told Ghanaians to disregard the disinformation.

According to the Roads Minister, no contractor in Ghana has only one staff member, disclosing that the names of contractors mention have contractors with many active staff working on site currently.

In a post on X, he wrote, “Fellow Countrymen and Women, what we do at the Ministry of Road and Highways is largely engineering. Don’t be misled by anyone with a hidden motive. No contractor in Ghana has only one staff. I am told someone mentioned the name of a firm called Sanam (4 workers per SSNIT clearance) and Build Managers (1 worker). These are contractors with many active staff working on-site currently. Disregard the disinformation”.

His comments come on the heels of The Fourth Estate publication, which suggested President John Dramani Mahama and his government have been paying lip service in terms of promises to minimise sole-source procurement to encourage competitive bidding.

President John Mahama, on numerous occasions, has reiterated his government’s commitment to make single-source procurement a rare exception rather than the norm.

However, after one year in office, the report by The Fourth Estate has unearthed that the Road Ministry awarded 81 sole-sourced contracts worth over GHS73 billion in 7 months.

The Fourth Estate stated, “Data available to The Fourth Estate indicates that in the last seven months, the ministry has awarded 107 road contracts. Contrary to the President’s promise to ensure competitiveness and transparency in the awarding of public contracts, not a single one of 107 contracts was awarded based on competitive tendering.

A whopping 81 out of the 107 road contracts worth over GHS73 billion were awarded through sole-sourcing. The remaining 26 contracts worth about GHS8 billion were awarded through selective tendering. This means over 90% of the amount of money expected to be spent on roads under the Big Push programme so far was given out through sole-sourcing.

Despite this glaring contrast, the majority leader and leader of government business in Parliament, Mahama Ayariga, audaciously proclaimed to Parliament on March 11, 2026, that “let it be known, the era of the sole-sourced contract is dead.”

It will be recalled that President John Dramani Mahama has said his government’s flagship Big Push infrastructure programme is for competent and well-resourced contractors, not wheelbarrow contractors.

According to John Mahama, some friends have approached him to secure contracts under the scheme, but he made it clear to them that the project was designed to accelerate large-scale national infrastructure projects.

Speaking at the official launch of the programme at Afienya in the Greater Accra region on Tuesday, September 16, John Mahama stated, “There are a few wheelbarrow contractors who have come to me saying, ‘Oh, I hear they are distributing projects under the Big Push.

I want one.’ I say, ‘My friend, this is not for wheelbarrow contractors.’ You are my friend, but I won’t give it to you because it is not meant for wheelbarrow contractors,” he stated.

President Mahama further added that every region in Ghana will benefit from his government’s flagship Big Push infrastructure programme.

The president explained that the project is designed to revolutionise Ghana’s road network and improve national connectivity.

Priscilla Ansong, a 35-year-old content creator, has been remanded into custody by the Adenta Circuit Court over the publication of false news.

The content creator was remanded over her false publication with the intent to mislead, cause fear and panic in violation of Section 208(1) of the Criminal Offences Act, 1960 (Act 29).

The report suggests Priscilla Ansong was arrested after publishing a widely circulated video making disparaging remarks about the President and the First Lady.

In the video shared by SIKA OFFICIAL, Content creator Priscilla Ansong alleged misconduct involving the First Couple,

She claimed unrest at the Flagstaff House and called viewers to watch the online content she referenced as evidence.

Speaking in the viral video, Priscilla Ansong stated, “Mr President, you sleep with the friends of your wife, how much more your house help? First Lady, have you also seen what you have caused? You have now been caught sleeping with another man. Everyone should go and watch what the president has done. He has slept with ladies, including his wife’s best friend, and now he has been caught. When his wife, the First Lady, also did the same, the president was angry.

“…I hear the Flagstaff House is on fire. Just go to YouTube and watch what’s going on. Go to Shirley Frimpong Manso – Sparrow’s Productions – and see what I am talking about. ‘For Love and Country’ – President, shame, you have been disgraced,” Content creator, Priscilla Ansong alleged.

Content creator, Priscilla Ansong, has been picked up and already taken to court for the publication of the video and the subsequent.

She has since been remanded into custody by the Adenta Circuit Court.

Her arrest has sparked public debate, with some netizens saying, “She didn’t mention President Mahama’s name or First Lady Lordina’s name. She’s only narrating & promoting For Love & Country by Shirley Frimpong Manso on YouTube. I don’t know why the police are so triggered by social media content. Context matters here. Tso”.

“Hmmmmm. Social media is made to entertain people.

Years later, it is monetised to encourage creators.

Why would you want to publish false or fake news about people?

For views or what?

These things need to be stopped.

Are you telling me you can’t be creative enough to publish fake news about high-profile people?

You end up regretting. Let’s be guided”, A netizen added.

One X user added, “Ah, you sure? Cos she was talking about a movie that’s on YouTube. If she is true, it has been arrested, then that will be sad cos why arrest someone cos of a movie”.

“Using the President and First Lady as clickbait to incite fear and panic is a violation of the Criminal Offences Act and shouldn’t be taken lightly. This will serve as a much-needed deterrent to others social others”.

“Make them arrest me.   People just behave anyhow these days, thinking they can escape the law. You sit behind the camera, and you say such nonsense about the President, and you want to go scot free. 3ha yen gyimi wa ha oo”, One more X user added.

A netizen added, “Freedom of speech is guaranteed, but what happens after you speak is not. There are limits to what one should say or do, especially when it involves the presidency.

Still, people will claim freedom of speech to justify it. Otherwise, we would not see crowds gathering at courts and police stations demanding the release of their favourite personalities because they benefit from them.

You can be arrested for spreading false information, and when that moment comes, will you be able to defend yourself?”.

One last X user added, “Charlie, what kind of idiocy makes some of the so-called media influencers do these things? Our society is highly politicised, but some acts are a serious breach of the limits of freedom of speech. She must be made to give proofs or made an example to deter others”.

“Mahama gov’t cannot survive 4 years without a scandal” – Deputy Roads Minister

0

Alhassan Suhuyini, the Deputy Minister for Roads and Highways, has said the John Mahama government cannot survive four years without a scandal.

According to the Deputy Roads Minister, a scandal is inevitable in 4-years, but should not be manufactured when it is known.

The Deputy Roads Minister, who also served as the Member of Parliament for Tamale North, stressed that while controversies may arise in any administration, he urged the public to rely on evidence rather than speculation.

Speaking on TV3 Keypoint on Saturday, 28 March, the Deputy Roads Minister stated, “There is no way this government can survive four years without a scandal, but let us not force one when there isn’t one”.

In the NDC People’s Manifesto, they also pledged to “make single-sourced procurement (sole-sourcing) an exception and not the rule.”

John Mahama, during his recent SONA, also repeated his vow and commitment, “Mr Speaker, we are bringing legislation to this House to tighten our procurement processes by banning sole-sourced contracts, except in exceptional circumstances,” the President told Parliament.

A firm created in January 2025 was awarded a Big Push sole-sourced contract – Alarm blows

0

Sulemana Braimah, the Executive Director of the Media Foundation for West Africa (MFWA), has blown an alarm on how a firm created in January 2025 was awarded a Big Push sole-sourced contract.

According to Sulemana Braimah, some companies awarded sole-sourced contracts under the Mahama government’s Big Push infrastructure programme were only recently established.

Speaking on JoyNews Newsfile on Saturday, 28 March, Sulemana Braimah stated, “One of the firms awarded sole-sourced contracts in Big Push was created in January 2025”.

He explained that such contract awards raise questions about transparency and adherence to competitive bidding principles.

His comments come on the heels of The Fourth Estate publication, which suggested President John Dramani Mahama and his government have been paying lip service in terms of promises to minimise sole-source procurement to encourage competitive bidding.

Meanwhile, Alhassan Suhuyini, the Deputy Minister for Roads and Highways, has said the John Mahama government cannot survive 4 years without a scandal.

Prioritise the completion and operationalisation of Agenda 111 projects – Akufo-Addo to Mahama

0

Former President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has told the John Mahama administration to prioritise the completion and operationalisation of the Agenda 111 hospital projects.

According to Akufo-Addo, access to quality healthcare must not be subjected to partisan politics.

Speaking during the launch of the centenary celebrations of the Kyebi Government Hospital, the former president made this known.

Akufo-Addo noted that the completion and operationalisation of the Agenda 111 hospital projects would significantly strengthen healthcare delivery across the country.

It will be recalled that Agenda 111 was a flagship under the former Akufo-Addo government, which was designed to construct 111 hospitals nationwide to bridge gaps in access to medical care.

In related news, Thomas Nyarko Ampem, the Deputy Finance Minister, has disclosed that 35 contractors under the Agenda 111 initiative received US$7.9 million in mobilisation funds, but they failed to deliver work equal to the payments.

According to Thomas Nyarko Ampem, an Auditor-General on Arrears and Payables, as at the end of 2024, uncovered significant irregularities under the Agenda 111 project.

The Deputy Minister disclosed that the audit findings showed that some contractors who took the US$7.9 million did not mobilise to their respective sites, and others also failed to deliver work.

Speaking on the floor of parliament while presenting the Report of the Auditor-General on Arrears and Payables as at the end of 2024 in Parliament on Tuesday, March 10, Mr Nyarko Ampem stated, “Mr Speaker, the audit of Agenda 111 projects also revealed that a total amount of US$7.9 million was paid to 35 contractors as advance mobilisation under the programme, but these contractors have either failed to mobilise to the site or the work done is not commensurate with the amount paid”.

“The advance mobilisation guarantees secured by the 35 contractors who received the US$7.9 million have all expired. The Auditor General has subsequently issued notices of surcharge to the offending contractors,” he added.

Meanwhile, Dr Kwame Asiedu Sarpong, a Democracy and Development Fellow in Health at the Centre for Democratic Development (CDD-Ghana), has said Ghana’s Health crisis is a systems and people’s problem, not a bed problem.

He argued that Ghana’s Health crisis goes beyond ‘no-bed syndrome adding that the system is fundamentally broken.

Speaking on Joy FM’s Super Morning Show on 24 February 2026, Dr Sarpong explained, “The problem is not a bed problem. It’s a systems and people’s problem. We’ve diagnosed the issues, but we’ve refused to intervene.

“The Health Harmonisation Assessment Report was a diagnosis of the health of our health system. When the diagnosis told us our health system was very, very sick, we did nothing about it,” he said.

Dr Sarpong added, “We needed retooling of our health system since 2014, but we haven’t done it. That’s a fact of our health system, and it’s why we’re still in crisis today”.

“It’s not just about where the beds are. It’s about the resources and the right medical expertise at each facility. If a hospital has a bed but lacks the proper expertise or equipment, sending a patient there is as dangerous as not having a bed at all,” he explained.

“For me, this needs to be investigated thoroughly again. And this time, the findings do not need to be shelved. We can’t keep sweeping these problems under the rug. If we don’t address the root causes, the cycle will repeat itself,” he cautioned.

He further added, “It shouldn’t be the responsibility of patients or their families to track bed availability. This should be accessible to health managers and emergency services to ensure patients are sent to the right facilities. We’ve talked about this for years. Why is it still not in place?”

“We have known what’s wrong with the system for years. Yet every time a tragedy happens, we react as if this is the first time we’re hearing about it. This must change. Until we address the root causes, more people will die unnecessarily. We must act now before it’s too late,” he warned.

He further added, “I hear the noises being made by the Ministry of Health and the Minister, and they are good noises. But at this point, these things have to happen quickly. No more delays. We can’t afford to wait any longer. These are not just policy recommendations; they are urgent needs”.

“We have mutual negligence at all levels, politicians, health managers and even the citizens. Everyone is turning a blind eye, and people are dying as a result. We need to stop looking for someone to blame and start fixing the system,” he stated.

“People are dying in our hospitals, yet you are raising funds for a listless, uninspiring Black Stars” – Nana Aba fumes

Nana Aba Anamoah, a renowned media personality, has vented out her displeasure following the Ghana Black Stars suffered a crushing 5-1 defeat at the hands of Austria in an international friendly on Friday.

According to Nana Aba Anamoah, the government led by the Sports Ministry is raising funds for a listless, uninspiring, poorly led and badly managed Black Stars while Ghanaians are dying in our hospitals because there’s no access to basic equipment.

In a post shared on X after the Black Stars’ thrashing defeat, Nana Aba wrote, “People are dying in our hospitals because there’s no access to basic equipment.

Yet you’re out here raising funds for a listless, uninspiring, poorly led and badly managed Black Stars”.

Nana Aba remarks follow, the Ghana Black Stars suffered a thrashing  5-1 defeat at the hands of Austria in an international friendly on Friday, with Ghanaians fans disappointed.

Some Ghanaians reacting to Nana Aba Anamoah’s remarks stated, “But why are y’all dragging @thenanaaba? She basically meant, if we are able to push an agenda to raise huge amounts of funds with this energy.. then we can channel the same energy into saving lives in our health sector, Anaa??

“Ghana has a priority problem. I believe we can do both..We are often more willing to fund visibility than reliability. More willing to chase clout than fix delivery”, a netizen added.

“So what exactly is your point? Are you saying the black stars shouldn’t go for the World Cup so the money would be used to solve all Ghana’s problems?

You hosted a program that is seeking to empower women in London! Yes London! Meanwhile, there are millions of women in Ghana who need to be empowered more than those in London, yet you chose London.

You figa say you p3 get sense??

Eno be you dey carry women give rich people dey claim money?

Go and sit somewhere, make think!! Ofui!”, a netizen added.

One X user added, “While patients die waiting for a working dialysis machine, we’re crowdsourcing millions to watch the Black Stars collect another L under the same coach. Ghana, fix your priorities and don’t behave like the Nigerian government or keep burying both dreams and people”.

Another Ghanaian added, “

One more X user added, “I’m I reading right, or people are really insulting this woman, and the reason is she wants her own people to receive better healthcare, she wants her Government to prioritise healthcare, & people are fighting her. Charley bibinii nyansa sua, these politicians have some hypnosis powers”.

In related news, Ghanaian Dancehall artistes, Shatta Wale and Stonebwoy, have both contributed towards the Black Stars‘ 2026 World Cup campaign.

“With a different coach, the result would not be different” – Austria coach tells Ghanaians after Black Stars’ thrashing

0

Ralf Rangnick, head coach of Austria, has told Ghanaians not to be too emotional following the Black Stars’ humiliating 5-1 defeat to his side.

According to Ralf Rangnick, Ghanaians should not be too emotional about Otto Addo, as he does not think that with a different coach, the result would have been any different.

Speaking at a post-match interview following his Austrian side’s thrashing of the Black Stars, Ralf Rangnick stated, “Ghana qualified for the World Cup with Otto Addo as manager. So the most important thing is that they qualified.

At least we don’t overrate this game and this result. I remember that we played Turkey two years ago before the Euros. We beat them 6-1 here, but then we played against Turkey again in the round of 16 at the Euros, and we lost 2-1, unfortunately. But luckily for Turkey”.

“So, I wouldn’t rate that too much. Let’s wait and see how they play against Germany on Tuesday, and then it might be a completely different story again. Don’t be so emotional about your coach. Otto is a good one, and I don’t think that with another manager it would have been a different result,” Rangnick added.

Some Ghanaians reacting to his remarks stated, “He’s right. Ghana’s problem is not coaching only, it’s the system. What foundation have we laid down as a country to develop players? Just look at our local league very poor”.

“This is actually pure disrespect, to be honest. What exactly does he mean by that? We can’t beat him as the head coach of Austria, or what? We’ve beaten better countries, what’s Austria’s achievement on the world stage?? Such disrespect”, a netizen added.

One X user added,“Seriously, I don’t blame him, ebi the GFA and the Blackstars management Committee wey ago blame. How can an association set out a criterion to select a new coach, but end up throwing away the criteria and appoint a trainer scout as a coach? Someone who abounded the team when they exited their last World Cup, which was disastrous by the way. Get that fraud out of the team simple”.

Trump administration missed a golden opportunity – Ablakwa

0

Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, Ghana’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, said the Donald Trump administration missed a golden opportunity when it voted against a resolution at the United Nations General Assembly to declare the enslavement of Africans a crime against humanity.

Ablakwa described the US decision as disappointing, noting that the country played a role in the atrocities committed during the transatlantic slave trade.

Ghana’s Minister of Foreign Affairs explained that the vote at the United Nations General Assembly presented an opportunity for the US to express regret for its involvement.

Speaking in an interview with BBC Africa, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa stated, “Particularly for the United States, it is most disappointing because they know their role in this. They took part in the horrendous atrocities that occurred. We will leave it to their conscience.

“This was an opportunity for reckoning, to show regret, contrition, and a willingness to apologise and work with us on this journey towards reparatory justice,” he said.

Ablakwa added, “Ghana’s message to the Trump administration is that you missed a golden opportunity, but it is not too late. This resolution has been passed.

“You still have another opportunity to come on board and work with this broad international coalition to put in place the systems we are now formulating to dismantle the pillars of discrimination and racism,” he added.

Meanwhile, the United States, Israel and Argentina vote against Ghana’s UN resolution to recognise the slave trade as the ‘biggest crime against humanity’.

The three countries opposed the motion, which called for reparations and justice for the transatlantic slave trade.

According to the US, they acknowledge the horrors of the past, but do not accept the resolution, as they do not support legal claims for reparations.

The US representative during the  80th United Nations General Assembly argued that the US government, led by President Donald Trump, opposed the resolution.

They argued that the calls for reparations cannot hold because slavery was legal during the era of the transatlantic slave trade.

“The United States has defined long-standing objectives to the framing of reparatory justice and the duty of reparation for historical wrongs. While we acknowledge the horrors of the past, we do not accept this resolution’s assertion that historical facts from the 15th through 19th centuries constitute violations of jus cogens, as the term is understood in contemporary international law.

“The United States also does not recognise a legal right to reparations for historical wrongs that were not illegal under international law at the time they occurred. In addition to its obvious legal problems, this resolution is also unclear as to who the recipients of reparatory justice would be. The drafters and supporters of this resolution seem to believe it is them,” he said.

The US representative also stated that the resolution goes against the main objective of the United Nations, which is the maintenance of world peace and security.

“We regret that the United States must once again remind this body that the United Nations exists to maintain international peace and security. It was not founded to advance narrow, specific interests and agendas, to establish niche international days, or to create new costly meeting and reporting mandates. This resolution does all three,” he added.

“I am not a dropout like him” – Ashanti Regional Minister ‘fights’ Paul Adom-Otchere

0

The Ashanti Regional Minister, Dr Frank Amoakohene, has clashed with Ghanaian broadcaster, Paul Adom-Otchere, following a viral video of the minister in a jovial mood, teasing a portrait of former President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo at the Asokwa Interchange.

The Ashanti Regional Minister in the viral video was touring ongoing painting works in Kumasi when he paused at the portrait of the former president, bowing slightly before the artwork.

However, Paul Adom-Otchere, speaking on his Good Evening Ghana show, heavily criticised the minister by questioning his doctoral credentials.

Paul Adom-Otchere highlighted that the Ashanti Regional Minister does not present himself as a medical doctor.

According to him, Dr Frank Amoakohene’s level of reasoning is below standard.

Paul Adom-Otchere, speaking on his Good Evening Ghana show, stated, “I saw that he posted something on social media, pretending to tease us. We didn’t engage because we are not about teasing people; we are about thinking and making things happen.

“I don’t know what he did before entering politics, but I know his doctorate is not in medicine. In tech, you can complete a four-year programme and be called a doctor, but it is not medicine… I get the sense that he is playing and not serious. I am not sure he belongs to a group of young people we should have confidence in,” he said.

The Ashanti Regional Minister, in a Facebook post, later hit back at Paul Adom-Otchere.

Dr Amoakohene rejected Paul Adom-Otchere’s claims, insisting that he is a certified medical doctor and not a school dropout, like he was.

According to the Ashanti Regional Minister, Paul Adom-Otchere could not complete his law education.

In his Facebook post, he wrote, “Tell ‘Christmas Tree’ that I am a medical doctor. I am not a dropout like him, who could not complete his law education. When you had the opportunity, you chose to sell Christmas trees.

“I chose to be innovative, so if you want to defame me, at least do your due diligence. Below is my academic background at 35. I dare ‘Christmas Tree’ to share his academic background at 51 and explain why he was sacked from law school,” he stated.

The Ashanti Regional Minister further rejected claims by Adom-Otchere that the New Patriotic Party (NPP), under the administration of John Agyekum Kufuor, completed the Asokwa Interchange.

“‘Christmas Tree’, facts: The Asokwa Interchange was started by President Kufuor in June 2008, six months to the elections, and completed by President John Evans Atta Mills in October 2011. Keep these facts, because one day the Suame Interchange will be wholly claimed by people like ‘Christmas Tree’,” he stated.

In related news, Ms Gyankroma Akufo-Addo, the daughter of former President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, has threatened legal suit over the resurfaced $25m interchange painting allegation.

She once again denied allegations that she received $25 million to paint interchanges in Accra.

According to Gyankroma Akufo-Addo, such claims are “entirely absurd and false.”

She boldly asserted that no such contract has ever existed, been proposed, or awarded to her.

Gyankroma Akufo-Addo detailed that she has instructed her lawyers to take immediate legal action against persons and media outlets responsible for circulating the claims.

In a public statement issued on Friday, March 27, Ms Gyankroma Akufo-Addo dismissed the allegations, saying, “My attention has once again been drawn to the circulation of entirely absurd and false claims alleging that I received $25 million to paint interchanges in Accra,

Let me state, again, unequivocally and for the record: This claim is completely false. No such contract has ever existed, been offered, or been awarded.

If any individual, media platform, or commentator is in possession of such a contract, I challenge them to produce it publicly.

They will not because it does not exist”.

She further clarified, “

The Art for All projects were privately conceived and executed through the Creative Arts Agency, funded through a combination of private sector support and personal contributions. These facts have been publicly stated before and remain unchanged.

The deliberate revival and spread of this fabrication, particularly across social media platforms, is a calculated attempt to mislead the public and damage my reputation.

Accordingly, I have today instructed my lawyers to take immediate legal action against the individuals, platforms, and media outlets responsible for publishing and amplifying these falsehoods.

I will not allow deliberate misinformation to go unchallenged”

The allegations stem from claims by a social media commentator that she was paid $25 million to paint murals in parts of the capital city.

Respect our position on LGBTQ issues – Mahama tells Ghana’s international partners

0

President John Mahama has called on international partners to respect Ghana’s position on LGBTQ issues.

Mahama stressed that public policy is shaped by the country’s legal traditions, cultural values, and societal consensus.

According to John Mahama, Ghana’s democratic processes are actively at work to ensure that any outcome of the anti-LGBTQ bill reflects the views of the people.

President Mahama made these known when he received the ‘International Statesperson Award’ from the World Affairs Council of Philadelphia.

He stated, “The issue of LGBTQ rights is emotive, and they are not completely settled in terms of their nuances and arguments, not only in Ghana but all over the world.

Even in the United States, you still have discourse on LGBTQ rights. There are still 26 states in America that have legislation that restricts LGBTQ rights.

For a country like Ghana, our democracy is playing in respect to what those rights are. The bill in parliament is not a government bill, it is a private members’ bill and so parliament hold that bill for now.

What the eventual nature of the bill would be, nobody can second-guess Parliament, and I, as President, cannot anticipate Parliament in respect of that bill. But I believe that our democracy will work out. Memoranda are being accepted from people from all walks of life.

“Civil Society Organisations are presenting their papers to Parliament, and I believe that the representatives of the people will make the will of Ghanaians reflect in whatever eventually comes out,” he said.

I swore an oath to uphold the Constitution, and so the representatives of the people will discuss the bill once they pass it, and then it comes to the presidency.

I believe that our international partners should understand that public policy is grounded in our legal traditions, in our cultural context, and in our social consensus, and all those issues are playing out as we speak.”

Some Ghanaians reacting to the president’s remarks stated, “He said he will sign it. He criticised Akufo-Addo for not signing. Today his government with a super majority in parliament has ignored the bill. The God that will punish this man is watching him!”.

“Ghana must also respect the position of the US, Israel and Argentina on the UN resolution on transatlantic slave trade because their decision is based on strategic and in-depth thinking”, a netizen added.

“Mr President, don’t carve in to their demands. We don’t want it in our country. Ghana has so many issues to deal with. Child malnutrition, Poor Sanitation, Poverty across rural areas, people not able to afford a 3 square meal a day. That’s what we worry about”, one X user added.

Meanwhile, President John Dramani Mahama has made a definitive statement on the pending anti-LGBTQ bill legislation, declaring that he will assent to the bill if it is passed by Parliament.

According to John Mahama, a person’s gender is determined at birth, adding that the family is the foundation of our nation.

He added that there is no question what Ghanaians believe in.

Speaking to leaders of the Christian Council of Ghana in Accra on Tuesday, November 18, 2025, President Mahama stated, “We agree with the Speaker to relay the bill and let Parliament debate it, and then if there are any amendments or whatever that have to be done. If the Parliament of the people of Ghana endorses the bill, votes on it, and passes it, and it comes to me as President, I will sign it”.

“A person’s gender is determined at birth, and the family is the foundation of our nation. That is our position. So, there are no questions or equivocations about what we believe,” President Mahama noted.

He added, “We agree with the Speaker to relay the bill and let Parliament debate it, and then if there are any amendments or whatever that have to be done”.

Also, the Human Sexual Rights and Family Values Bill, 2025, commonly known as the anti-LGBTQ bill, has been laid before Parliament for consideration for a second time.

On Tuesday, February 17, 2026, following its First Reading, Speaker Bagbin referred the bill to the Constitutional and Legal Affairs Committee for further scrutiny and reporting.

“African leaders not being truthful about slave trade narrative” – Obiri Boahen

0

Private legal practitioner, Nana Obiri Boahen, has criticised former President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo and President John Dramani Mahama, accusing them of failing to present what he described as the full historical account of the transatlantic slave trade.

Nana Obiri Boahen highlighted that the narratives by African leaders often focus heavily on the atrocities from the transatlantic slave trade while overlooking earlier forms of slavery.

Speaking on Okay FM on Thursday, March 26, 2026, “Both Nana Addo and President Mahama are not giving Ghanaians the true historical background of the slave trade. African leaders and intellectuals are not being truthful about the true historical background on the matter. Before the transatlantic slave trade started, the Arabs were already buying slaves from Africa to their countries”.

“Why are they not talking about those ones? Theirs was even serious because what they did was that when they buy the slaves and take them to their countries, they kill all the slaves when just one individual commits wrongdoing. That was serious violation of human rights. The African leaders are afraid to speak about the Arabs and what they did,” he added.

He added, “… When the colonisers came to Africa (Shama and Elmina), they encountered the blacks, they realised how strong they were and how resourceful they could be, and so they decided to bring them to America to be able to operate their businesses, and that was the beginning of the slave trade,” he said.

“The first 80’s slaves that were taken from Europe to America were not brought directly from Africa to America, but were brought from Europe to America,” he explained.

“They then realised that they could bring lots of the slaves from Africa to America and so, in exchange, they brought items like mirrors, ammunitions, drinks to be given to the chiefs and slave leaders to buy the slaves. That is why it was called the transatlantic slave trade,” he explained.

Obiri Boahen noted, “I’m against the inhumane treatment that was given to the slaves. Before the transatlantic slave trade, even amongst ourselves as Africans, we were treating our own people inhumanely”.

“… At a time the slave trade became unprofitable. Also, they discovered gold, ivory, grains and decided to put a stop to dealing in human beings. Gradually by 1808, the slave trade was abolished,” he said.

“If America abstained from voting on the resolution, they were right as well as Israel, Venezuela and the others because they know the history very well,” he added.

Meanwhile, Alexander Kwamina Afenyo-Markin, the Minority Leader in Parliament, has punched holes in Ghana’s demand for reparatory justice following the UN General Assembly’s adoption of a resolution recognising the trafficking of enslaved Africans as the “gravest crime against humanity.

According to Afenyo-Markin, historical accounts of the transatlantic slave trade fail to reflect the role played by local actors.

Afenyo-Markin highlighted that local actors chase their strongest among their own people, then, after 100 years, Africans are demanding that they should be compensated.

The minority leader quizzed who should compensate whom following the role played by the indigenous people who subjected their people to inhumane treatment.

Speaking on the Floor of Parliament on Friday, March 27, 2026, “When somebody berths a vessel at Cape Coast, and you decide to go to the North, Bono area, get to the Ashanti area, to the Assin area, and you are chasing your strongest among your own people, then after 100 years, you say I should be compensated. Who should compensate whom? We maltreated our own and told the white man that he should also maltreat our own. The story must be told and must be put in its proper context.

“It is also a fact that the inhumane treatment, the unfortunate humiliation, the marginalisation, injustice and abuse of our ancestors who became victims of this slave trade must be condemned,” he said.

“Nobody can sit on the presidential throne without me” –  Rev Owusu-Bempah claims

0

Rev Owusu-Bempah, the Founder and Leader of the Glorious Word Power Ministries International, has said that no one can assume the presidential throne without his intervention.

The man of God claimed God had given him the mandate to decide what happens in Ghana, adding that anyone aspiring to occupy the presidential seat must consult him.

According to Rev Isaac Owusu-Bempah, no power in this country is above him except my spiritual fathers.

The man of God further declared that after President Mahama’s tenure, he will decide on who will lead the country.

Rev Isaac Owusu-Bempah further claimed that anyone aspiring to occupy the presidential seat must consult him.

Speaking to his congregation in a viral video, Rev Owusu-Bempah stated, “There is no power in this country above me except my spiritual fathers. I can see in the spiritual realm who will become president”.

“If anyone has ambitions of becoming president, that person must come to me. Nobody can sit on the presidential throne without my involvement,” he said.

“God has given me the mandate to decide what happens in this country, so after President Mahama’s tenure, I will decide on who will lead the country,” Rev Owusu-Bempah declared.

In related news, Rev Isaac Owusu-Bempah has clarified his 2017 prophecy, which he claimed John Mahama could never become president again.

It will be recalled that the man of God had prophesied that any attempt for John Mahama to return to the presidency would be unsuccessful.

Speaking in an interview on GHOne TV on December 6, 2017, Rev Owusu-Bempah stated, “No human being can change what God has said. I respect former President Mahama, but God says he can never be president of the country again.

He has been helpful to Ghana and has done what he can, so I wish him well in all his endeavours. But to become the president of Ghana, it will never happen”.

He added, “I will urge the NDC to stop considering the president for 2020 because he won’t win and can never win an election again. Those campaigning for him to be brought back should stop, because if they succeed in getting him to lead the NDC in 2020, the party will lose again and remain in opposition for a long time”.

In a recent remark speaking to his congregation, Rev Owusu Bempah clarified, explaining that his prophecy came with a condition that Mahama could still become president if “a mighty hand” delivered him from the curse.

He stated, “People say Prophet Owusu-Bempah said President Mahama can never be president again but they have forgotten that God revealed to me in 2021 that he could become president again only if a mighty hand helps him.

“He needed the hand of an anointed man of God. If that mighty hand of God fell on him, he could become president again. They have forgotten that mighty men of God prayed for him to fulfil what God said,” Owusu-Bempah explained.

He added, “All men of God met to pray for him. Sam Korankye Ankrah and other powerful pastors were there, and all of them prayed for Mahama. After that, I and another man of God, an archbishop, also prayed for him, and all hindrances were removed,” he said.

Meanwhile, Rev Isaac Owusu-Bempah has descended heavily on the erstwhile New Patriotic Party (NPP) government led by former President Akufo-Addo.

According to Rev Owusu Bempah, the former Akufo-Addo government deceived him in the past with promises they failed to fulfil.

He highlighted that he did his part of the bargain, but the NPP failed to fulfil their part of the bargain.

Speaking to his congregation on Sunday, October 19, 2025, Rev Owusu-Bempah stated, “Sometime ago, we worked for nothing; we worked in vain. We fasted and prayed for nothing. They reneged on all the promises they made to us. Because of this, we had to make them go home. We needed to put them in a cage; some were pushed into the forest.

“You make a promise to me and fail to keep it. I fulfilled my side of the deal, but you reneged on yours; then the God of David would punish you… When you labour, you must enjoy its fruits,” he said in the Twi dialect.

He added, “Some people deceived me sometime past… This time around, we are not going to suffer for nothing. If you joke, we will push your car into a ditch.”

Rev Owusu Bempah further praised the John Mahama-led government.

According to him, the John Dramani Mahama administration and the National Democratic Congress (NDC) have kept their promises to him.

He added that the NDC government are not like the former NPP government under Akufo-Addo, who locked him up after helping them gain power.

“These people (the current government) are wise. They honour promises. They are not like others I know, who even lock you up in addition,” he said.

“God has given me the mandate to decide what happens in Ghana” – Rev Owusu-Bempah

0

Rev Owusu-Bempah, the Founder and Leader of the Glorious Word Power Ministries International, has said God has given him the mandate to decide what happens in Ghana.

According to Rev Owusu-Bempah, no power in this country is above him except his spiritual fathers.

The man of God further declared that after President Mahama’s tenure, he will decide on who will lead the country.

Rev Isaac Owusu-Bempah further claimed that anyone aspiring to occupy the presidential seat must consult him, adding that no one can assume the highest office without his intervention.

In related news, Rev Isaac Owusu-Bempah, has warned Ghanaians to pray to avert the death of the country’s former president.

The man of God prophesied that some persons who have led Ghana before are going to die in 2026.

He warned that if former leaders do not heed the prophetic warnings, the prophecies will come to pass.

According to Rev Owusu Bempah, Ghanaians must pray for former leaders who have previously ruled Ghana to prevent calamities.

Speaking to his congregation during his 31st Watch Night service about events to expect in 2026, Rev Isaac Owusu-Bempah prophecied, saying, “Those who have once ruled Ghana, let us remember them when we pray, or else it will not be just one event that will happen.

Those who this prophecy concerns must not rebel against this prophecy, but let them deal with it in prayer or else it will happen, and it will shock Ghanaians, and Ghanaians will say Prophet Owusu Bempah said it”.

He further urged, “Let’s pray about this calamity, someone who has ruled Ghana as a president that person wouldn’t lose his life this year. Let’s take this seriously”.

“We chased our strongest after 100 years, we want compensation”- Afenyo-Markin punches holes in reparatory justice

0

Alexander Kwamina Afenyo-Markin, the Minority Leader in Parliament, has punched holes in Ghana’s demand for reparatory justice following the UN General Assembly’s adoption of a resolution recognising the trafficking of enslaved Africans as the “gravest crime against humanity.

Also, Award-winning investigative journalist Manasseh Azure Awuni has opposed President John Dramani Mahama’s calls for reparations to Africa for the transatlantic slave trade.

According to Manasseh, if reparations are to be paid, countries such as Ghana should also be required to pay them for their role in the slave trade.

He highlighted that it will not be right to pay reparations to those who took part and benefited from the slave trade, even though the benefits and exploitation of the enslaved people were disproportional.

Manasseh detailed that descendants of the slaves in America, the Caribbean and elsewhere rightfully deserve reparations, not African countries whose people captured and sold slaves.

He, however, labelled African countries that captured and sold slaves as ‘accomplices’, not victims.

Parts of Manasseh’s post on shared on Facebook wrote, “The slave trade boomed whenever there were wars among African ethnic groups. Some wars were waged for the purpose of capturing and selling slaves. The powerful kingdoms got money from selling slaves, with which they bought powerful weapons to fight and capture more slaves.

When the British abolished the slave trade, some powerful African kings, including some in Ghana, were unhappy that their source of wealth was being stifled.

I also read that some African countries, such as Benin, have formally apologised for their role in capturing and selling their own people into slavery.

Ghana subtly acknowledged its role when it launched the Joseph Project during the celebration of Ghana’s 50th independence anniversary. (In the Bible, Joseph was sold by his own brothers.)

That brings us to the second part of the push, which is the payment of reparations. If reparations are to be paid, countries such as Ghana should also be required to pay them for their role in the slave trade.

It will not be right to pay reparations to those who took part and benefited from the slave trade, even though the benefits and exploitation of the enslaved people were disproportional.

The descendants of the slaves in America, the Carribean and elsewhere legitimately deserve reparations, but the African countries whose people captured and sold slaves are accomplices, not victims.

In 100 years, it will be untenable for Ghana to demand reparations from China for destroying our forests in the illegal mining scourge. Without tacit support in fronting for the Chinese illegal miners (sometimes providing state security protection), they would not have succeeded in destroying our forests.

We need to tell ourselves the hard truth and learn from how we have hurt ourselves through selfishness and greed”.

Britain shouldn’t be paying for a crime we helped eradicate – UK leader on slavery reparations

0

The leader of the UK Conservative Party, Kemi Badenoch, has boldly stated that Britain shouldn’t be paying for a crime they helped eradicate.

Kemi Badenoch expressed displeasure over the decision by the UK’s representative at the United Nations to abstain from the vote,

According to her, the UK’s representative should have taken a clear position by voting against the resolution.

Kemi Badenoch argued that Britain played a key role in ending slavery and should not be made to pay reparations for helping in ending the practice.

Kemi Badenoch in a post on X on March 26, 2026, “Russia, China and Iran vote with others to demand trillions in reparations from UK taxpayers…and the Labour government abstain! Britain led the fight to end slavery.

Why didn’t Starmer’s representative vote against this? Ignorance…or cowardice? We shouldn’t be paying for a crime we helped eradicate and still fight today.”

Her comments follow the United Kingdom, joining almost all the countries in the European continent, abstained from the slavery motion during the debate on the resolution at the 80th session of the United Nations General Assembly on Wednesday, March 25, 2026.

According to the UK government, it could not support the resolution because at the time of the transatlantic slave trade, slavery was not illegal, and it objected to the assertion that slavery was the “greatest crime against humanity”.

The UK further explained that no single set of atrocities should be regarded as more or less significant than another.

The UK statement read:

“The United Kingdom recognises the gravity of the issues addressed in this resolution and welcomes the opportunity to set out its position. We have repeatedly recognised the abhorrent nature of slavery and the transatlantic slave trade, which inflicted untold harm and misery on millions of people over many decades. Its horrors were profound, and its legacy continues to leave deep scars today. The UK also believes that only by acknowledging and discussing collectively the most painful elements of the history that we share with other nations, including the transatlantic slave trade, can we come together in a spirit of solidarity and mutual respect to respond to the challenges that we all face today.

“The UK remains committed to that goal. That is why we engaged constructively throughout the negotiations on this resolution in the hope of reaching a consensual base text. However, despite our efforts, our concerns have not been taken on board. The UK continues to disagree with fundamental propositions of the text, and therefore, regrettably, could not vote in favour of it.

“Firstly, the UK is firmly of the view that we must not create a hierarchy of historical atrocities. Doing so simplifies the complexity and vast scale of suffering endured in different contexts. It risks diminishing the experiences of communities whose trauma and suffering were felt just as strongly. No single set of atrocities should be regarded as more or less significant than another. We should approach all historical injustices with the same seriousness, empathy and respect, to ensure that no one group is made to feel that their suffering is being overshadowed or treated as secondary.

“Furthermore, it’s essential and integral to the rule of law that the formation and evolution of international law is governed by clear and well-defined principles. The principles of intertemporality and non-retroactivity are long-standing tenets of international law. They are essential to ensuring legal stability. According to the intertemporal rule, the applicable law is the law of the relevant time. International courts and tribunals have routinely upheld these principles.

“There was equally no duty to provide reparation for historical acts that were not, at the time those acts were committed, violations of international law. These principles cannot be circumvented by recourse to the concept of continuing harms. The UK

welcomes that states have developed international law such that today’s slavery and the slave trade are rightly prohibited by treaties and under customary international law, and enslavement is now recognised as a constituent element of a crime against humanity. Nonetheless, it’s important to acknowledge with deep regret that the prohibitions on slavery, the slave trade, and what are now considered crimes against humanity had not yet been established in international law at the time of the transatlantic slave trade. None of the recognised sources of international law, as set out in Article 38 of the Statute of the International Court of Justice, identify a prohibition on slavery and the slave trade until the 20th century.

“The United Kingdom appreciates that Ghana, on behalf of the African Union, consistently stressed that this resolution was not to be read as a legal document. This was restated by the drafters at every informal consultation. In this context, the UK and others offered specific language to move the text from legal to political discourse, while still reflecting the sheer gravity and horror of the acts. Member states also suggested the text should be considered by the (sic) committee. Again, this was met with the response that this was a political declaration. The United Kingdom is keen to underscore this point on the AU’s intention, while we continue to regret the failure to accept language that would have put the matter beyond doubt. I thank you.”

An X user added, “This was an attempted murder case hence should have been treated as such!”.

An X user added, “My guy dated a lady who breaks things during their relationships. Everyone advised him, but he went ahead to marry her. The lady dey show am pepper even after having 1 child. Don’t ignore red flags”.

One more Ghanaian added, “Where do these people buy the acid and who sells them? Can’t it be regulated or made illegal like weed and others…maybe you will need a prescription before it can be sold to you”.

“Whether it was misguided love or intense jealousy, this is a tragic reminder of why emotional self-control is so critical. We have to learn to manage our anger before it leads to irreversible destruction”, an X user added.

An X user added, “The value of life. And the true consequences of our actions are lost on many of us. Never act when emotions are high. You will regret whatever you do. She has done an incredibly wicked and evil thing. She will now pay for her actions. May the man rest in peace”.

“Pouring acid on your boyfriend, you claim to love, is unthinkable. This wasn’t love, it was a total loss of humanity. We must stress the importance of walking away and controlling our impulses instead of letting anger take control of us”, one more Ghanaian added.

A netizen added, “Don’t ignore red flags. Leave if the person has a bad temper. If they are vengeful. Overly jealous or suspicious. Things won’t get better. Run away.  People who are wicked and evil everyone will eventually do the same to you. Your partner must be your safety, not your death”.

The Chronciles is in a post, “While some members of the Council are reportedly lobbying for Yohuno to remain in post and have written to President John Mahama in support of this, a silent majority are said to believe he should step aside to allow for a reset of the Police Service under new leadership, one that brings fresh ideas, motivation, innovation, and modern policing approaches that leverage technology to combat sophisticated crimes, including cybercrime.

Those pushing the President to grant the IGP a post-retirement contract are thought to be placing him in a potentially awkward position, risking his reputation as a leader who keeps his word, particularly after winning public approval for terminating post-retirement contracts across the public sector.

The upper echelons of the Police Service still reflect remnants of the Akufo-Addo-era hierarchy, including senior officers such as Yohuno, who served as Director-General of Police Operations before becoming Deputy IGP under the previous administration”.

Court grants request to extradite Abu Trica to the US to face $8m romance scam

0

Frederick Kumi, also known as Abu Trica, is set to be extradited to the US to face his $8 million romance scam after the Gbese District Court granted a request to surrender.

“No such contract ever existed” – Gyankroma Akufo-Addo denies $25m interchange painting claims

0

Ms Gyankroma Akufo-Addo, the daughter of former President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, has once again denied allegations that she received $25 million to paint interchanges in Accra.

According to Gyankroma Akufo-Addo, such claims are “entirely absurd and false.”

She boldly asserted that no such contract has ever existed, been proposed, or awarded to her.

In another statement responding to the allegations, some years ago, she wrote, “In August 2018, Art for All was conceived. Its purpose was to beautify our capital city of Accra, to give a platform to our Ghanaian artists, to build art appreciation for its audience, and to serve as a beautiful backdrop for videos, or photoshoots and be a tourist attraction

Each site had a six-week workshop process to identify themes, locations, and artists. Each site was paid for with funds largely from the private sector, sourced solely by the Creative Arts Agency. No contract to paint a succession of bridges or underpasses has either been conceived, has ever been offered, or has ever been accepted. Indeed, any tender or contract awarded for such a project would have been made public.

For the avoidance of any doubt, it is important to state that these projects were solely conceived, managed, and financially undertaken by The Creative Arts Agency, through its own fundraising activities.

Site 1, Ako Adjei, was funded by the private sector.

Site 2, Tetteh Quarshie, was paid for by myself, Gyankroma Akufo-Addo

Site 3 was completed through the generosity of the creatively minded Ben Asante, CEO of Ghana Gas, understanding its social community importance.

The paint used for each site, again, was provided by Coral Paints and its CEO, who understands the importance of pushing visibility of Ghanaian artists. The absurdity of $25 million, or any amount for that matter, being awarded to myself to undertake this project is a disgusting narrative.

It is a complete fabrication being propagated by some shameless persons, and which, unfortunately, has been published by sections of the media. This project was not embarked upon to make a profit, and there have been no lucrative contracts awarded for it.

All efforts to undermine my credibility through the publication of these falsehoods and baseless lies will not wash. I have instructed my lawyer to seek redress in the law courts against persons and media houses that published these falsehoods with the sole intention of destroying my reputation”.

Akufo-Addo’s daughter threatens legal suit over alleged $25m interchange painting

This project was not embarked upon to make a profit, and there have been no lucrative contracts awarded for it

All efforts to undermine my credibility through the publication of these falsehoods and baseless lies will not wash. I have instructed my lawyer to seek redress in the law courts against persons and media houses that published these falsehoods with the sole intention of destroying my reputation”.

International Cocoa price drop a wake-up call – Mahama

0

President John Dramani Mahama has said the recent International Cocoa price drop must be a wake-up call for Ghana.

According to John Mahama, almost 70 years after Ghana gained independence, the country is still exporting raw beans to the world.

Reacting to viral video of a cocoa farmer who claimed, “Mahama wo de yɛ ka,” meaning “Mahama, you owe us a debt” while speaking during an engagement with the Ghanaian community in Philadelphia on Thursday, March 26, President Mahama jovially mimicked the farmer, repeating the words ‘wo de y3 ka,’ with the audience bursting into laughter.

President Mahama stated, “The recent incident with cocoa, with the prices plummeting, and you see all the videos of ‘Mahama wo de y3 ka’ of cocoa farmers protesting in the cocoa farms, is because for almost 70 years after we gained independence, we’re still exporting raw beans to the world”.

“I believe that what has happened in the international market should be a wake-up call for us, and that we must allocate more of our beans, and we’re taking the first step to doing that,” he indicated.

President Mahama added, “We’re changing the financing model. Before, we got the traders and others who buy the cocoa to advance the money for us to buy the cocoa from our farmers. Now, we say we’re going to raise the money ourselves and buy our own cocoa,” he stated.

“While we’re taking the money from the traders to buy the cocoa from our farmers, the collateral for the money they were advancing us was the cocoa beans. And so once you bought the cocoa beans, it was collateral for the financing they gave you.

“So, now if we raise our money, we buy our own cocoa. Our cocoa is not collateral to anybody, and so we can decide what to do with it, and we’re saying that we’re going to allocate the bulk of our cocoa to the local processors to process that cocoa before we export it,” he concluded.

Some Ghanaians reacting to Mahama’s response stated, “In crises, proper leaders find good and sustainable solutions to the crises; they don’t give excuses. If all this is done, starting with the tomatoes 🍅, cocoa, and then our minerals, Ghana will be there”.

A netizen added, “It’s just unfortunate, H. E John Dramani Mahama won’t be contesting for the presidential seat again”.

Earlier, President John Dramani Mahama said his government’s decision to reduce the cocoa producer price was difficult but necessary.

Mahama explained that the reduction was aimed at addressing acute liquidity challenges within the cocoa sector.

According to John Mahama, maintaining the previous price would have compelled the government to borrow billions, which he says could have taken the country back into economic difficulties.

Delivering his 2026 State of the Nation Address (SONA) in Parliament, President Mahama explained, “Mr Speaker, a nation that does not learn from past mistakes cannot get out of the cycle of problems that impose hardship on its citizens.

We have just begun to emerge from the most devastating economic crisis in our nation’s recent history. This crisis was triggered by general financial indiscipline, huge deficits and massive debt occasioned by persistent unbudgeted expenditure to meet the ends of convenient politicking.

In the last few weeks, we have had to take the painful but necessary decision to revise the producer price of Cocoa to achieve competitive pricing and resolve acute liquidity challenges in the sector. Failure to do so would have meant pumping in billions of borrowed funds”.

He added, “This unplanned expenditure would have taken us right back to the very devastating economic problems we have only recently begun to escape.

So, while fully understanding the concerns and protests of our farmers, I can firmly assure them that the reforms announced by the government will see a total transformation of the sector and guarantee them a fair price that enables them to meet the cost of producing the commodity and make decent margins.

The difference between economic hardships and avoiding the same is the exercise of sound economic judgement, and I am determined to take decisions that ensure our collective wellbeing and avoid suffering for all our citizens.”

“You belong to a political party that got 33,000 votes” –  Kofi Tonto jabs Solomon Owusu

0

Kofi Tonto, a political aide and deputy spokesperson to former Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, has jabbed Solomon Owusu, Director of Communications for the United Party (UP).

The NPP man jabbed Solomon Owusu for defending the Mahama government’s sole sourcing of road projects under Big Push.

According to Kofi Tonto, Solomon Owusu had earlier criticised the New Patriotic Party (NPP) for engaging in sole-sourcing, but has today defended the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC).

Speaking during an interview with Accra-based TV3 on March 25, 2026, Kofi Tonto stated, “You Solo, you belong to a political party, which political party went to Ghanaians to seek power and got 33,000 votes? The point I am making is that when you went to Ghanaians, you went on the back of the argument that the Akufo-Addo government was not the best, the alternative National Democratic Congress government was also not the best and that you were the best to lead the country.

“…Then NDC wins and comes to power, and the very ills you criticised NPP for, NDC is doing the same and worse, and instead of condemning it, you are sitting here with your kaftan telling me that we shouldn’t talk”, he fumed.

Kofi Tonto added, “My point is, you cannot continue to do politics and campaign. The campaign is over. You cannot continue to defend the NDC and cite examples on their behalf. They promised a reset and said everything we did was bad, so I don’t need to reiterate the so-called bad things. So don’t cite all of those things as your basis to argue”.

Meanwhile, a deo compilation has surfaced of some members of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) government preaching against sole sourcing.

The viral video compilation features the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa; the CEO of the Ghana Gold Board, Sammy Gyamfi; and President John Dramani Mahama, calling out the Akufo-Addo New Patriotic Party government over sole sourcing.

In the viral video, Ablakwa, on Onua TV, stated that the NDC’s Resetting Ghana Agenda would ensure an amendment of the Public Procurement Act.

According to him,  sole sourcing would be a thing of the past under an NDC government.

“What we are saying in the Reset Ghana manifesto is that when we come to power, we will amend the Public Procurement Act. We will put a stop to the single sourcing because it has been abused,” Ablakwa stated in the video.

Sammy Gyamfi, on the other hand, accused the past Akufo-Addo Bawumia government of looting the state through sole sourcing.

“A new angle being used by the NPP to loot the state is what we call sole sourcing,” he said.

Also, President Mahama, addressing a gathering at the National Economic Dialogue in 2025, also highlighted that single-source procurement should not become standard practice.

“Single source procurement must be the rare exception rather than the norm. We must also subject government projects above a certain threshold to value-for-money audits,” Mahama stated.

The video has surfaced amid the Fourth Estate publication, which suggested President John Dramani Mahama and his government have been playing lip service in terms of promises to minimise sole-source procurement to encourage competitive bidding.

President John Mahama, on numerous occasions, has reiterated his government’s commitment to make single-source procurement a rare exception rather than the norm.

However, after one year in office, the report by The Fourth Estate has unearthed that the Road Ministry awarded 81 sole-sourced contracts worth over GHS73 billion in 7 months.

Minister for Sports and Recreation, Kofi Adams, has announced that the Police in Vienna, Austria, have opened an investigation following a robbery on the Black Stars.

According to Kofi Adams, preliminary reports indicate that the CCTV cameras at the hotel were not operational during the incident.

The Minister for Sports and Recreation is quoted to have said, “They are working to carry out the investigation. The initial report we have is that the CCTV was not functioning, and the police are checking when it stopped working and who was responsible for the hotel’s surveillance system at that time”.

Reports had earlier suggested that the Black Stars of Ghana had been robbed ahead of their international friendly on March 27, 2026, against Austria.

According to reports, the Black Stars have suffered a robbery attack in Vienna as they prepare to face Austria.

Reports from Sporty FM detailed that players and technical team members were victims of the incident and losing several valuable items valued at $20,000.

The reports suggest no players or technical team members being physically harmed during the incident

In a post on X Sporty FM, wrote, “BREAKING: A top official of the Black Stars has confirmed to SportyFM that the team camp has been ROBBED. ⛔️

Valuables stolen include $2,250 cash and

2 Rolex watches”.

Sporty FM in a new card wrote, “Black Stars camp in Vienna allegedly hit by robbery ahead of Austria friendly; players and technical team members lose valuables including cash and watches valued at $20,000.

Meanwhile, the Black Stars will face Austria at Vienna’s Ernst Happel Stadium on Friday, March 27, with the kickoff scheduled for 5: 00 pm.

In related news, Ghanaian Dancehall artistes, Shatta Wale and Stonebwoy, have both contributed towards the Black Stars‘ 2026 World Cup campaign.

Shatta Wale and Stonebwoy, the two musicians, were present at the launch of the campaign at the Kempinski Hotel on Friday night.

Shatta Wale’s $100,000 pledge, with Stonebwoy also pledging $101,000, which included $81,000 in cash and $20,000 worth of music services.

Individuals and corporate bodies also pledged significant amounts to support Ghana’s preparation for the global tournament.

Ibrahim Mahama’s mining firm, Engineers & Planners, which committed $5 million, was the headline sponsorship.

Also, Goldfields pledged $2 million, with an additional $1 million for next year.

Additionally, President John Dramani Mahama has announced that his government will not fly Ghanaian supporters to the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

According to President Mahama, the government’s decision is in line with recommendations in the Dzamefe Report, which warned against the use of public funds for such purposes.

President Mahama highlighted that even supporting a small number of 200 fans would place a significant financial burden on the state.

He detailed that flying and accommodating just 200 supporters could cost close to $2 million.

Speaking at the Ghana World Cup fundraising campaign on Friday, March 20, 2026, Mahama stated, “In consonance with the Dzamefe Report, the government has no plans to allocate public funds to fly supporters to the World Cup”.

“We all want to see our fans in the stands, but we must be responsible in how we use public resources,” he added.

Mahama stressed the need to channel funds into critical areas such as job creation.

Electronic road tolls to be rolled out by fourth quarter of 2026

0

Isaac Adjei Mensah, the Chairperson of the Roads and Transport Committee and Member of Parliament for Wassa East, has revealed that the electronic road toll system will take effect by the fourth quarter of 2026.

Speaking during a Parliamentary Press Corps in Accra on Thursday, March 26, 2026, the Chairperson of the Roads and Transport Committee made this known.

Isaac Adjei Mensah detailed that all feasibility studies and preparatory processes would soon be finalised.

According to Isaac Adjei Mensah, the NPP Minority had no moral justification to criticise the pace of the policy rollout, as they were responsible for abolishing the road toll, which generated about GH¢60 million monthly for the state.

The Chairperson of the Roads and Transport Committee argued that the removal of the tolls led to significant revenue losses, which render the Minority’s criticisms unjustified.

The announcement follows the Minority Caucus in Parliament, which has expressed concerns about the government’s failure to follow through on the implementation of the new road toll policy after fifteen months in office.

They argue that the delay in rolling out the proposed modernised tolling system has hindered a crucial revenue stream that could have been used to fund road development in the country.

Speaking to journalists on Tuesday, March 24, Kennedy Osei Nyarko, the Ranking Member of Parliament’s Roads and Transportation Committee, stated, “The current government strongly criticised the previous administration for suspending the road toll collection and promised Ghanaians that road tolls would be reintroduced under a new framework.

“Fifteen months into the current administration, this promise remains unfulfilled. There has been no visible commencement of the process to reintroduce road tolls, despite earlier commitments made to Ghanaians”.

This continued delay raises questions regarding the government’s policy consistency and revenue mobilisation strategy for road maintenance,” he said.

In related news, Kwame Governs Agbodza, the Minister for Roads and Highways, has announced that every road project under President John Mahama’s Big Push initiative will be tolled.

The Road Minister revealed that the tolls will be used to raise money for road maintenance.

Kwame Governs Agbodza is quoted by GHOne TV news card to have said, “ Every road under the Big Push initiative will be tolled to raise money for its maintenance”.

Also, the Roads minister in an interview on JoyNews’ Super Morning Show revealed that the government’s proposed Accra–Kumasi expressway project will take off mid-year after feasibility and costing.

The Roads Minister detailed that the government is taking a guarded approach to avoid cost overruns and design errors.

Speaking on JoyNews’ Super Morning Show, the Road Minister explained, “We want to take time to make sure that when we come out and say we need X amount of money to build the about 200km from Accra to Kumasi, we don’t come back and tell you that we want to double that money simply because we made a mistake,” Mr Agbodza said.

“We are expecting the final draft somewhere in May, June, but we are giving ourselves July or August, just in case there’s something they missed or something we need to add,” he explained.

Watch – Mahama reacts to Cocoa farmer’s “Wo De Y3n Ka” viral video

0

President John Dramani Mahama has reacted to a viral video of a cocoa farmer saying, “Mahama wo de yɛ ka,” meaning Mahama, you owe us a debt.

In a viral video, the cocoa farmer stated, “If President Mahama were here, I would ask him to listen carefully. Mahama, listen to this message: you owe us a debt. Whether you like it or not, you owe us.

Before the elections, cocoa farmers were receiving GH¢31 million, but Mahama, while in opposition, said the amount was too small. He even promised that if voted into office, he would increase the cocoa price to about GH¢60 million. On that basis, we voted for him,” he said.

Reacting to the video while speaking during an engagement with the Ghanaian community in Philadelphia on Thursday, March 26, President Mahama jovially mimicked the farmer, repeating the words ‘wo de y3 ka,’ with the audience bursting into laughter.

Ibrahim Mahama’s familial ties with Mahama shouldn’t stop Ghanaian ownership – NPP told

0

Prof Baffour Agyeman-Duah, the former UN governance advisor, has joined in on the brouhaha surrounding businessman Ibrahim Mahama’s potential acquisition of the Damang mine.

According to Prof Baffour Agyeman-Duah, Ibrahim Mahama’s familial ties with President John Mahama should not hinder Ghanaian participation in national industries.

Speaking on Joy News’ The Pulse on Thursday, March 26, Prof Agyeman-Duah explained, “If Ibrahim needs to do it, it must be done transparently and according to all legal procedures. The fact that he is the president’s brother should not automatically disqualify him”.

Prof Baffour Agyeman-Duah recounted past controversies involving property acquisitions by relatives of political leaders.

According to him, the focus should always be on legal adherence and transparency.

“Once all the laid-down rules are followed, we shouldn’t be concerned about who owns the mine. What matters is that more Ghanaians take initiative in managing our country’s resources,” he said.

Meanwhile, the NPP Minority in Parliament has disclosed plans to petition the Commission on Human Rights and Administrative Justice (CHRAJ) to investigate businessman Ibrahim Mahama.

According to the NPP minority, they are petitioning CHRAJ to investigate Ibrahim Mahama and his company, Engineers & Planners, over their involvement in the takeover of the Damang Mine, and also the use of his private jet by President John Dramani Mahama.

The Minority raised concerns about constitutional breaches in the process used to select an investor for the Damang Mine, arguing that the procedure lacked transparency and fairness.

According to the NPP minority, the whole process appeared to have been programmed, rather than conducted through a truly competitive and merit-based selection system.

Speaking to journalists in Parliament on Thursday, March 26, members of the Minority Caucus stated, “The Minority will not accept the government’s characterisation of this process as competitive. What we see is a winner being arranged and not selected.

“Under Article 287 (1) of the 1992 Constitution, any person may petition CHRAJ to investigate violations of chapter 24, and so the minority is formally considering a joint civil society organisations, professional bodies and concerned citizens on both the private jet and the Damang Mine process as two manifestations of the same constitutional beach.”

Earlier, the minority in parliament had alleged that Ghana is dangerously drifting towards state capture in the mining sector, just one year into President John Dramani Mahama’s administration.

According to the NPP minority, Ibrahim Mahama, brother of President John Mahama, is wielding undue influence in Ghana’s mining sector.

They alleged that since the President’s return to office, companies linked to Ibrahim Mahama have gained unprecedented and unfair advantages.

Speaking to journalists in Parliament, the Minority Spokesperson on Lands and Natural Resources, Kwaku Ampratwum-Sarpong, stated, “Now Ghana stands today at a defining moment in our natural resource governance. Barely one year into the administration of President John Dramani Mahama, we are witnessing what can only be described as a dangerous drift towards state capture in the mining sector,” Mr Ampratwum-Sarpong stated.

“This is not an abstract concern. This is not rhetorical or alarmist. This is unfolding in real time through decisions, patterns, and actions that threaten our institutional integrity, economic stability, and democratic accountability.”

Mr Ampratwum-Sarpong pointed to Ibrahim Mahama’s upcoming transition of the Damang gold mine from Goldfields Ghana as an example of the lack of transparency.

According to the minority, Parliament and the Ghanaian public have been kept in the dark about who will operate the asset.

The Minority further alleged that there was a systematic placement of individuals with close ties to Ibrahim Mahama in Ghana’s mining sector’s regulatory landscape.

Mr Ampratwum-Sarpong fingered the appointment, the CEO of GIADEC was the personal lawyer of Ibrahim Mahama, and that a member of the GIADEC board, Mr Augustus Agbeli-Amegashi as close associate of Ibrahim Mahama’s Exton Cubic Group and Engineers & Planners.

Also, pointing to the Deputy CEO of the Minerals Commission in charge of Local Content and Mineral Titles, Victoria Awuni, who worked as a group manager for compliance at Ibrahim Mahama’s Engineers & Planners.

Mr Ampratwum-Sarpong further stressed that the CEO of the Ghana Gold Board, GoldBod, Sammy Gyamfi, was also the public relations officer for Ibrahim Mahama’s Exton Cubic.

The minority added, “Taken individually, each of these may be explained, but taken together, they point to something far more serious and dangerous, a growing convergence between public institutions and a single private corporate orbit”.

“Every major agency that should report to the Minister now answers to Ibrahim Mahama’s orbit, not to the Minister or Parliament,” Mr Ampratwum-Sarpong claimed.

“While they use that particular parameter to actually assess us and judge us, it is only proper that whilst in office in the last year we also try and turn the skills on them and see how they have performed under that particular parameter,” he said.

However, reports suggest the Approval for the acquisition of the Damang Mine by Engineers and Planners was granted by former Lands Minister, Samuel Abu Jinapor, in March 2024.

Ghana School of Law monopoly was harsh – UPSA Dean

0

Prof Isaac Boadi, the Dean of the Faculty of Accounting and Finance at the University of Professional Studies (UPSA), has welcomed the passage of the Legal Education Reform Bill.

The USPA dean highlighted that the Ghana School of Law monopoly was a bit too harsh.

According to Prof Isaac Boadi, the previous structure created significant limitations, pointing to the gap between the number of law graduates and those who progress to professional training.

Speaking on the JoyNews AM Show on March 27, Prof. Boadi explained, “It’s been in existence for a long time; that’s been the structure we’ve had over the years, where the Ghana Law School has been the only institution passing out these lawyers”.

“The monopoly was a bit too harsh, but the point is that it is a good call. Whenever a law is passed, it means some bottlenecks have been identified, and there is a need for a review,” he stated.

The UPSA Dean explained, “We’ve had brilliant students who have been rejected, and if you look at the population-to-lawyer ratio, it is not the best. You graduate about 5,000 LLB students, hypothetically, and maybe only 1,000 qualify to law school to become lawyers. That is a huge bottleneck”.

“When we have expansion, it allows more people to be trained as lawyers and could reduce the ratio, but we need to check this. An expansion of universities offering LLB programmes is not equivalent to expansion of professional training capacity,” he stressed.

“The fact that we have a lot of lawyers does not mean that sometimes they are efficient enough or have been trained enough,” he said.

“If we open more schools, a more roll out, how many of them get jobs? So in terms of capacity, efficiency is not the same.”

“As much as we are opening the door to allow universities to train, we must ensure those who come out are efficient and able to deal with the issues in our country,” he said.

Also, Kwaku Ansa‑Asare, a former Director of the Ghana School of Law, has said it would be a grave and regrettable mistake to abolish the Ghana School of Law.

The former Director of the Ghana School of Law dismissed calls to abolish the institution following the passage of the Legal Education Bill.

According to Ansa‑Asare, the Ghana School of Law has been of historical significance and a long source of national pride while being a cornerstone of Ghana’s legal system.

He highlighted that the Ghana School of Law has not only moulded generations of Ghanaian lawyers but also contributed to the development of the legal profession.

Speaking on Eyewitness News on Thursday, March 26, Mr Ansa‑Asare stated, “For many years, the Ghana School of Law has been our pride. It was the first law school established in Sub-Saharan Africa specifically to train professional lawyers, and it should remain Ghana’s pride.

“I think the law school should never, ever be abolished because it is Ghana’s pride—the first law school in Sub-Saharan Africa. It would be a very sad and regrettable mistake for anyone to suggest otherwise,” he said.

He added, “The law school is a professional training point. So I think that what is going to happen is that the law school will continue to train professional lawyers. That responsibility has not been taken away. It is the monopoly that has been removed,” he added.

Meanwhile, the Parliament of Ghana officially passed the Legal Education Reform Bill, marking a major shift in the country’s legal training system.

The law removes the Ghana School of Law’s long-standing monopoly and allows other accredited institutions to offer professional legal education.

The reform is expected to ease admission pressure, expand opportunities for law graduates, and improve training quality, while ensuring strict regulation and consistent standards are maintained across all institutions through strengthened oversight nationwide.

Speaking on the floor of Parliament, the Majority Leader, Mahama Ayariga, detailed that with the passage of the bill, the NDC has fulfilled its commitment to promoting equity, fairness, and improved access to legal education in Ghana.

He stated, “As has been typical of the NDC, promises made are delivered. We promised law students that if they vote for us, we will carry out reforms that will ensure equity, fairness and access to legal education”.

The Minority Leader, Alexander Afenyo-Markin, however, took a swipe at the NDC government.

Afenyo-Markin accuse the NDC government of failing to deliver on some of its key campaign promises.

The minority leader highlighted that the reform of legal education is important, but the government must also demonstrate commitment to other critical pledges made to Ghanaians.

If Gold failed to solve Africa’s problems, what would slavery reparations do? – Journalist quizzes

0

Dan Kwaku Yeboah, a veteran broadcaster, has told Western Nations not to hand over any liquid cash to African leaders.

The Journalist congratulated the president for winning the debate on reparatory justice, which acknowledges the slave trade as a crime against humanity.

However, he raised concerns about monetary compensation for the Transatlantic Slave Trade, arguing that such funds are unlikely to benefit the average African.

According to Dan Kwaku Yeboah, if proceeds from oil, gold, and bauxite royalties failed to solve Africa’s economic problems, what would a possible compensation do for Africans?

Speaking during an interview on Ade Akye Abia on Okay FM on Thursday, March 26, 2026, Dan Kwaku Yeboah stated, “If proceeds from oil, gold, and bauxite royalties failed to solve our economic problems or spur meaningful development, what will a possible compensation do for us?”.

Yeboah jokingly added, “They sometimes behave like the addicts in our neighbourhoods; when you give them gari, they ask for sugar. They say, ‘Thank you for yesterday’s gari, but what are you doing for me today?’ Our current posture in managing resources does not justify the demand for monetary reparations”.

“It would be better to invest any compensation into specific infrastructural projects rather than handing over liquid cash to our leaders”, he stated.

Meanwhile, Ghana’s foreign minister, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, has clarified that African leaders are not asking for money for themselves, as it goes against their conscience.

According to Ablakwa, African leaders are demanding compensation but are not asking for money for themselves.

Ablakwa highlighted that African leaders do not seek to profit from this but want justice for the victims and courses to be supported, educational and endowment funds, skills training funds.

Speaking to the media at the UN, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa clarified, “We have made it clear that African leaders, or Carribean leaders are not looking for money, it goes against our conscience to seek to profit from this, we don’t want any payment made to us directly, we are talking about courses to deal with the strutural inequalities and we are also talking about the return of artefacts”.

Also, Irina Abramova, Director of the Institute for African Studies of the Russian Academy of Sciences, has revealed that Russia is ready to help Africa calculate slavery reparations claims.

According to Irina Abramova, Russia will support African countries in calculating the total amount of reparations that Western nations could pay for crimes committed during the colonial period.

She explained that Russia will collaborate with African experts to build a strong, evidence-based case for reparations.

Speaking on Wednesday, March 25, 2026, during a press conference on the theme “The Responsibility of Western Metropolises for the Consequences of Colonisation: History and Modernity,” Irina Abramova made this known.

Madam Abramova explained, “We aim to unite the efforts of Russian scholars – mathematicians, programmers, historians, and economists – with African researchers in order to jointly substantiate the scale of these reparations and move forward with legal claims on various international platforms”.

“In addition to being an outstanding political figure, John Mahama is also a scholar. He actively promotes the reparations agenda, which is increasingly evolving from a historical and political discourse into a concrete, practical agenda,” Abramova added.

Reports suggest that between the 15th and 19th centuries, an estimated 12.5 million Africans were forcibly taken and sold into slavery.

The reparations debate has since gained renewed global attention; however, critics argue that present-day states and institutions should not be held responsible for actions carried out centuries ago.

42.3% paternity tests in 2025 show tested man not the biological father – Blueprint DNA Report

0

A new report by the Blueprint DNA Organisation has revealed that four in 10 paternity tests conducted in Ghana in 2025 show the tested man is not the biological father.

According to Blueprint DNA, 42.3% of paternity tests conducted in 2025 showed that the tested men were not the biological fathers.

In a news card shared by JOY FM on X, it stated, “Four in 10 paternity tests in Ghana in 2025 show tested man not the biological father – Blueprint DNA Organisation Report”

Blueprint DNA Organisation presented the findings during a media briefing at the Ghana College of Physicians and Surgeons in Accra on Wednesday, March 25, 2026.

Abeiku Ghansah, the Medical Director of Blueprint DNA, highlighted that the report is based on anonymised laboratory data.

“The report also shows that nearly 59 per cent of children involved in testing are under six years old, suggesting that many families seek confirmation early in a child’s life.

Tests conducted more than 10 years after birth recorded the highest exclusion rates, between 53 and 59 per cent.

Dr Ghansah noted that 87 per cent of tests are carried out for personal reassurance rather than legal or immigration purposes, emphasizing the private nature of paternity concerns in Ghana.

He called for responsible use of DNA testing, alongside stronger regulation and public education on its social implications.

The briefing further revealed regional disparities in testing, with more than 80 per cent concentrated in the Greater Accra and Ashanti regions, while higher exclusion rates were noted in the Western, Upper East, and Volta regions.

In addition, the event introduced Non-Invasive Prenatal Testing (NIPT), a method capable of detecting genetic conditions such as Down syndrome and Edwards syndrome from as early as eight weeks of pregnancy.

Blueprint DNA said the report is part of ongoing efforts to provide data-driven insights into DNA testing and its role in Ghana’s healthcare system and society as demand continues to grow,” a report by Joy News stated.

In related news, Gomoa Central MP Kwame Asare Obeng, commonly known as Kwame A Plus, has announced plans to lay a Private Member’s Bill in Parliament to criminalise paternity fraud.

The Private Member’s Bill is proposing jail terms for women who knowingly mislead men into raising children who are not biologically theirs, and possibly introducing mandatory DNA testing after birth.

Kwame A Plus, speaking on United Showbiz, explained what he sought to achieve with the bill, saying, “Any child that is born needs to know his father and mother. I know of a man who has birthed 5 children. He is now 70 years just recently learned that four of the children are not his, just one was his.

I know of someone also, who was taking his children abroad, when they went for a DNA test, the woman went to the lawyers and said she was not going to do any DNA test, and she disclosed that the children are not the man’s. The man was abroad, thinking he had four children here and was spending on them”.

He added, “Yesterday I heard Kofi Bentil say when the law is passed, it means we are going to crimalised adultry as a crime, we are not trying to prevent anyone from cheating in their marriage or in a relationship.

The bill we are taking to parliament, we are not thinking about it now; it is already drafted, and we are going to present it”.

Reports by Al Jazeera suggest that the Islamic Republic of Iran has reportedly mobilised over one million fighters to fight the United States and Israeli armies in a ground war.

According to the Al Jazeera report, the Iranian military has mobilised one million troops and is prepared for a ground battle with the US.

Al Jazeera in a post on X March 24, 2026, sharing a news card wrote, “BREAKING: More than one million fighters in Iran have been prepared for a ground battle with the US, reports Tasnim news agency, citing an Iranian military source,”

The Al Jazeera report cited the Tasnim report as the source of the news.

The report comes on the heels of other reports that suggest the United States Army has deployed ground troops to the Middle East.

“A report by aljazeera.com indicated that the Pentagon has ordered approximately 2,000 soldiers from the US Army’s 82nd Airborne Division to begin moving to the Middle East, after President Donald Trump said that his country was moving a “big force” towards Iran.

The US has also deployed two Marine Expeditionary Units already en route from opposite sides of the Pacific”, reports stated.

In related news, Iranian drone attacks have struck the United Arab Emirates‘ (UAE) biggest port and oil storage facility, Fujairah, and Dubai’s international airport.

Reports suggest Iran continues to target Gulf transport and oil infrastructure.

The reports by the BBC read, “The United Arab Emirates’ (UAE) biggest port and oil storage facility, Fujairah, and Dubai’s international airport have come under further drone attacks as Iran continues to target Gulf transport and oil infrastructure.

Flights were temporarily suspended on Monday after a fire broke out near the airport after a “drone-related incident”.

A fire also raged after a drone attack on the strategically important port and industrial zone at Fujairah, one of the largest oil storage facilities in the region.

And a rocket attack on a car killed a Palestinian national on the outskirts of the UAE capital, Abu Dhabi, the city’s Media Office reported.

The attack occurred in the Al Bahia area, it said.

UAE air defence systems intercepted six ballistic missiles and 21 drones on Monday, the Defence Ministry said. Iran has launched over 1,900 missiles and drones at the UAE since the war between the US and Israel, and Iran, began.

Meanwhile, Ghana’s President John Dramani Mahama has said the escalating conflict between the United States, Israel and Iran is not only affecting the Middle East, but the whole world.

According to President Mahama, tensions in the Middle East are troubling, calling for prayers and renewed efforts toward peace.

Speaking on Monday, March 16, during an Iftar with members of the Muslim community at the Jubilee House, President Mahama stated, “We are all concerned about what is happening in the Middle East. The conflict involving the United States, Israel and Iran is not only affecting the Middle East, but the whole world. We pray that Allah will touch the hearts of everyone involved in this conflict and bring peace to the region”

“If you say you are a true Muslim or a true Christian and you are unforgiving, wicked, and kill your fellow man, you cannot call yourself a true Christian or a true Muslim. At a time when many parts of the world are faced with conflict and uncertainty, we must continue to protect the peace Ghana enjoys,” he said.

He added, “I humbly ask for your prayers during this Ramadan for our country, for our leaders, and for other parts of the world affected by conflict, especially in the Middle East”.

Mahama visionary, he saw something many didn’t see – Sammy Gyamfi on his GoldBod appointment

0

Sammy Gyamfi, Chief Executive Officer of Ghana GoldBod, has spoken about President John Dramani Mahama appointing him as the GoldBod CEO.

According to Sammy Gyamfi, President Mahama is a great visionary who saw what he did not see.

Sammy Gyamfi asserted that many predicted he would have landed a communication-related job based on what he was doing for the party in opposition, but Mahama saw something in him that many had not noticed at the time.

Speaking on PM Express Business Edition, Sammy Gyamfi stated, “For me, it was an exciting call made by the president. The president, to some of us as a father figure, is not just a flagbearer. He’s not just our President, but somebody that I’ve enjoyed the father-son relationship with for some time now, and he’s a great visionary”.

“So what he may see in you, you may not even have seen in yourself. Maybe many never expected that, upon winning power, I would find myself where I am. I’m sure many have predicted that I may, I may have landed some communication-related job based on what I was doing, for the party in opposition,” he said.

Sammy Gyamfi added, “But the president, I think, saw something in me that many had not noticed at the time, and he decided to give me this opportunity”.

“Supported by my able minister, who is like a brother to me as well, Dr Cassiel Ato Forson, we have been able to push the agenda of the president for the gold sector,” he noted.

Also, Sammy Gyamfi has said Gold is essential to President John Dramani Mahama’s reset agenda.

The GoldBod CEO highlighted that Mahama believes that Ghana could have maximised national benefits and exerted its sovereignty over its gold resources more than it has since independence.

Sammy Gyamfi explained, “Gold is very essential to the reset agenda of the President, because he believes that Ghana could have maximised national benefits and exerted its sovereignty over its good resources more than we have done since independence”.

“And so when he was given the second opportunity to govern as president, he needed a certain urgency for his agenda of transformation, for not only the exploitation, but also the market and the trading of our good resources to ensure that we reset the sector and change,” he stated.

Sammy Gyamfi further added, “The narrative of leakages, the narrative of low repatriation of FX and ensure that Ghanaians are in control, not only of the exploitation of our mineral resources, but also of the trading of same and that the process from that trade is coming back into the economy to support the economy and to propel his agenda, his transformation agenda for the country”.

“So that was why I believe he saw me worthy, and there are many people in the NDC who are qualified for the job. So for me to have been given the opportunity was a rare privilege for which I am forever grateful to the president”.

“And every day when I wake up, my prayer is to work hard to justify the confidence he reposed in me and not to let him down. And I believe that is a prayer of my colleagues who have also been given the very privilege to serve in his government.”

Meanwhile, Dr Cassiel Ato Forson, Ghana’s Minister for Finance, has praised the Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana Gold Board, Sammy Gyamfi.

The Finance Minister stressed that the work Sammy Gyamfi has done at GoldBod will take another person 5 years to accomplish.

According to Ato Forson, the Ghana Gold Board has played a central role in the ongoing stabilisation of the Ghanaian economy.

Speaking in an interview with Radio Gold, Dr Forson stated, “I had to tackle inflation, and I had to tackle structural issues like how we build reserves to make sure the currency stabilises,”

“It is difficult to get such people around. You need someone with energy, drive, determination and a can-do spirit. You need to study people to know who can deliver, and we believe the President made the right choice.”

“To be honest, the kind of work Sammy Gyamfi has done at GoldBod in the last few months, it will take somebody five years to do, and I salute him for that,” he eulogised.

Lincoln University cannot be separated from Ghana’s story  – Mahama

0

President John Dramani Mahama has said Lincoln University cannot be separated from the story of Ghana

According to John Mahama, Lincoln University still holds a special place in his heart despite its decision to withdraw an honorary doctorate that was to be conferred on him.

President Mahama highlighted that Lincoln University holds a special place in my heart as Ghana’s first President, Dr Kwame Nkrumah, was nurtured intellectually and shaped by the University.

Speaking during an engagement with the Ghanaian community in Philadelphia on Thursday, March 26, President Mahama stated, “Whatever disagreements have arisen, for me, Lincoln University holds a special place in my heart. It is where our first President, Dr Kwame Nkrumah, was nurtured intellectually and shaped in his Pan-Africanist struggle. It remains hallowed ground for Ghanaians and an integral part of our history”.

“We cannot separate Lincoln University from the story of Ghana, and we will continue to hold the institution in the highest esteem,” he said.

The Ghana Embassy in the United States has expressed disappointment following Lincoln University’s decision to cancel the conferment of an honorary doctorate degree, honoris causa, for President John Dramani Mahama.

According to the Ghana Embassy in the United States, the university’s decision was communicated just hours before the scheduled visit on Thursday, March 26.

The Lincoln University decision is alleged to be based on  President Mahama’s perceived position on Ghana’s Human Sexual Rights and Family Values Bill, popularly known as the anti-gay Bill currently before Parliament.

The Ghana Embassy in the United States explained that no concerns were raised during the university’s due diligence and vetting processes.

Part of Ghana’s Embassy statement read, “It is both surprising and regrettable that such concerns have surfaced at this late stage, particularly with the President already in the United States in anticipation of the visit”.

It will be recalled that Lincoln University had earlier announced on March 19, 2026, that it would be conferring the honour on the President for his global leadership.

Portions of Lincoln University’s earlier statement read, “Lincoln University is proud to announce that His Excellency John Dramani Mahama, President of the Fourth Republic of Ghana and the African Union’s Champion for Advancing the Cause of Justice and the Payment of Reparations, will receive an honorary doctorate from the university on March 26, 2026.

“This is coming in recognition of his outstanding contributions to public service, democratic governance, peaceful international and inter-African relationships, and global advocacy for justice, equality, and education.”

“Lincoln University is deeply honoured to welcome President John Dramani Mahama to our campus and to bestow upon him an honorary degree in recognition of his distinguished leadership,” Dr Allen said in the statement.

However, in another update, Lincoln University’s official website stated that it has cancelled the President’s visit, citing what it described as “unforeseen circumstances” for the decision.

The update read, “Due to unforeseen circumstances, the university is cancelling the visit from John Dramani Mahama, President of The Republic of Ghana, originally scheduled for Thursday, March 26th”.

Meanwhile, the Assemblies of God Church, Ghana, has said that the decision by Lincoln University in the United States to cancel an honorary doctorate that had been scheduled for President John Dramani Mahama.

In a statement signed by the General Secretary, Rev Ernest Birikorang, Assemblies of God Church, Ghana, stated that Lincoln University’s decision does not dishonour, but rather honours President John Mahama.

Meanwhile, Sammy Gyamfi, in an earlier interview with Asempa FM’s Ekosii Sen, debunked claims by the Minority that the Bank of Ghana (BoG) is selling off the country’s gold reserves as politics and propaganda.

The Goldbod CEO stressed that Ghana’s gold has not been sold for consumption but has been reinvested for returns.

According to Sammy Gyamfi, part of Ghana’s gold reserves was converted into dollars and invested to earn returns.

Speaking on Asempa FM’s Ekosii Sen, Sammy Gyamfi explained, “When the NPP was leaving office, the reserves were approximately $9 billion. By the end of 2025, the NDC expects these reserves to be over $13 billion. These reserves include both gold and dollars.

“The general practice for middle-income countries is to keep about 20% of their reserves in gold. However, since gold prices can be volatile, the Bank of Ghana made the decision to sell some of its gold reserves and convert them into dollars.

“This strategy allows for investments yielding interest rates of 4–5%. Holding too much gold can be risky. The claims by the Minority that the Bank of Ghana is selling off Ghana’s gold reserves are purely political propaganda.

“We are not selling Ghana’s gold reserves to spend the proceeds. Instead, we converted the gold into dollars and invested them wisely. We do not plan to buy back the same gold but will replace it through a gold purchase programme. The gold was sold to Citibank in the USA and the Bank for International Settlements in Switzerland to minimise financial risk,” he said.

“The intent was in good faith” – Mahama defends digital security recruitment

0

President John Dramani Mahama has, for the first time, broken his silence regarding the brouhaha surrounding the security recruitment.

According to President Mahama, the move to introduce technology into the recruitment process was to address long-standing concerns about bias in public sector hiring.

Mahama further refuted claims that ongoing recruitment into the security services was driven by favouritism.

Speaking during an engagement with the Ghanaian community in Philadelphia on Thursday, March 26, President Mahama explained, “There have been a lot of complaints that people get recruited based on who they know. This was an attempt to use digitalisation to sort through the first wave of applications. The computer doesn’t know who you are”.

“The intent was in good faith, but the response was overwhelming. We held a meeting and decided to expand the recruitment, and all those who applied don’t need to pay again,” he added.

Earlier, President John Dramani Mahama directed an increase in security services recruitment from 5000 to 10,000 yearly.

A statement from the presidency dated Monday, March 16, revealed the directive comes following a high-level meeting with heads of the various agencies.

President Mahama’s directives will see the number of men and women recruited to the various security agencies increased from twenty thousand (20,000) to forty thousand (40,000) over four years.

In a Presidency communication shared by signed by Felix Kwakye Ofosu, read, “President John Dramani Mahama has held a high-level meeting with the Heads of Security Agencies, Minister for the Interior and Acting Minister for Defence on the ongoing security services recruitment process.

Following a briefing on the process, the President has directed that the number of men and women to be recruited to the various security agencies should be increased from twenty thousand (20,000) to forty thousand (40,000) over a four-year period.

The President has also directed the Heads of the Security Agencies to ensure transparency and fairness in the recruitment process.

Present at the meeting were the Chief of Staff, Secretary to the President, Senior Presidential Advisor on Governmental Affairs, National Security Coordinator, Inspector General of Police, Director General Prisons, Director General Fire Service, Comptroller-General of the Ghana Immigration Service and the Director General of the Narcotics Control Commission”.

Meanwhile, the Interior Ministry has revealed that the medical screening for applicants in its ongoing security recruitment exercise will begin on Tuesday, April 7, 2026.

According to the Interior Ministry, the medical screening will be at designated centres across the country.

The Interior Ministry detailed that official SMS notifications to shortlisted applicants will be sent between Sunday, March 29 and Tuesday, March 31, 2026.

In a statement issued, the Interior Ministry warned applicants seeking recruitment to be mindful of fake medical screening messages.

According to the Interior Ministry, applicants seeking recruitment are not required to send money directly to any mobile money number as part of the ongoing screening process.

The Interior Ministry further urged applicants to remain vigilant and avoid falling victim to fraudulent messages.

In a statement, the Interior Ministry on Monday, March 23, stated, “The Ministry of the Interior and the Recruiting Agencies wish to inform all applicants that no SMS notifications with regard to the medical screening have been sent to any applicant. All SMSs will be sent between 29th and 31st March 2026. Medical Screening is scheduled to commence on Tuesday, 7th April 2026, at designated centres across all regions.

Applicants are therefore cautioned against falling prey to SMS messages from dubious sources requesting payments for medical screening. All SMS messages will be sent from the sole authorised SMS sender ID, i.e. CSERP.

Additionally, all qualified applicants for medical screening are to note the change in their status from “Qualified” to “MEDICAL SCREENING” on their applicant portal once SMSs are sent. All applicants are therefore entreated to double-check all SMS’s received in relation to the medical screening process and ensure they see the change in status before proceeding to make payment via the secure web checkout system on their portal.

No applicant will be required to send money directly to any mobile money number. Stay Vigilant and report any cases of fraud to the email address below recruitment@mint.gov.gh

It would be a grave and regrettable mistake to abolish Ghana School of Law – Ansa‑Asare

0

Kwaku Ansa‑Asare, a former Director of the Ghana School of Law, has said it would be a grave and regrettable mistake to abolish the Ghana School of Law.

His comments follow, Parliament of Ghana officially passing the Legal Education Reform Bill, marking a major shift in the country’s legal training system.

Also, in a post shared by X, the Majority Chief Whip, Rockson-Nelson Dafeamekpor, detailed that he has been working on this for nearly 10 years, noting that when he began, naysayers said it wasn’t possible.

He wrote, “Breaking News:

1. Parliament of Ghana has just passed the groundbreaking LEGAL EDUCATION REFORM BILL, 2026.

2. This is a product of nearly 10 years of persistent and consistent advocacy on my part, which my Party bought into and made a major campaign promise.

3. When I began, the naysayers said it wasn’t possible.

4. The Reform is pervasive. The Bar, too, has been reformed such that we no longer have a single group of professional lawyers.

5. Today, we have the GHANA LAW SOCIETY with a huge membership at the Bar.

6. I’m a very happy man today. I wish all prospective Law students the best of luck.

7. Reform is always Good. This is a new dawn for our legal profession in Ghana.

Here we go……….”

Ghana’s colonial masters, the UK and the Netherlands, speak on decision to abstain from slavery motion

0

Ghana’s colonial masters, the United Kingdom and the Kingdom of the Netherlands, have issued a statement following their decision to abstain from the slavery motion to recognise slavery as the “greatest crime against humanity.”

It will be recalled that almost all the countries in the European continent abstained from the slavery motion during the debate on the resolution at the 80th session of the United Nations General Assembly on Wednesday, March 25, 2026.

The Netherlands statement also stated,

“The Kingdom of the Netherlands remains firmly committed to addressing racism and discrimination. We share the importance that the African group attaches to the lasting consequences of slavery and the transatlantic slave trade. We fully recognise the profound injustice of this history and its continued impact today.

“In December 2022, the Prime Minister of the Kingdom of the Netherlands offered formal apologies for the actions of the Dutch state towards enslaved people in the past who suffered as a consequence of those actions everywhere in the world, as well as to all their descendants up to the present day. In July 2023, His Majesty King Willem-Alexander apologised for the Netherlands’ slavery past.

“As a member of the European Union, we engage constructively in the negotiations on this resolution, and we greatly appreciate the efforts by Ghana and the African Union to bring forward this important initiative. In this vein, I would like to also say that we align ourselves with the statement delivered by the EU, and we sincerely regret that no consensus could be reached on a formulation that addresses key legal and substantive concerns.

“Having said that, the Kingdom of the Netherlands cannot support references that suggest the retroactive application of international law, including the implication of a legal obligation to provide reparations for acts that were not a violation of international law at the time they were committed. We also cannot agree to the introduction of a hierarchy among crimes against humanity, including the designation of one as the gravest, nor to references related to the non-applicability of statutory limitations. For these reasons, Mr Chair, and despite the importance we attach to this very subject matter, my delegation has abstained on this resolution. Thank you.”

NPP Minority ‘runs’ to CHRAJ to investigate Ibrahim Mahama

0

The NPP Minority in Parliament has disclosed plans to petition the Commission on Human Rights and Administrative Justice (CHRAJ) to investigate businessman Ibrahim Mahama.

Speaking to journalists in Parliament on Thursday, March 26, members of the Minority Caucus stated, “The Minority will not accept the government characterisation of this process as competitive. What we see is a winner being arranged and not selected.

“Under Article 287 (1) of the 1992 Constitution, any person may petition CHRAJ to investigate violations of chapter 24 and so the minority is formally considering a joint civil society organisations, professional bodies and concerned citizens on both the private jet and the Damang Mine process as two manifestations of the same constitutional beach.”

Meanwhile, reports suggest the Approval for the acquisition of the Damang Mine by Engineers and Planners was granted by former Lands Minister, Samuel Abu Jinapor, in March 2024.

A letter shared on social media from the Ministry of Lands and Natural Resources dated March 12, 2024, reads, “Your letter dated 8th March, 2024, on the above-subject matter refers.

Subsequent to your letter, the Hon. Ministe requested for the advice and commendation of the Minerals Commission, pursuant to section 100(2) of the Minerals and Mining Act, 2006 (Act 703), which was recelved on 12% March, 2024 The Commission indicates that your company has gained considerable experience in mining, and is currently engaged in contract mining for Abosso Goldificlds Limited’s Damang Gold Mine.

Based on the representations in your letter and on the recommendation of the Minerals Commission, the Hon. Minister for Lands and Natural Resources has no objection to Engineers and Planners Co. Ltd. entering into negotiations with Abosso Goldfields Limited for the purposes of acquiring the Damang Gold Mine.

This no objection, however, does not affect the right of the Government of Ghana to approve or reject any transaction and/or agreement concluded between the parties. Accordingly, any agreement concluded between you on one hand, and Abosso Goldfields Limited, on the other hand, shall be subject to the express approval or otherwise of the Government of Ghana. For the avoidance of doubt, any such agreement shall not be valid, and no rights shall pass under such an agreement without the consent of the Government of Ghana. This no objection is granted subject to the above reservations”.

“You don’t ask questions, you give him more sex to lie, steal” – Duncan-Williams fires wives of corrupt Politicians

0

Archbishop Nicholas Duncan-Williams, the Presiding Bishop of the Action Chapel International, has fired shots at the wives of corrupt politicians.

The man of God, in a viral video speaking to his congregation, lambasted the wives of politicians who, according to him, enable their husbands to steal from the country.

According to Duncan Williams, wives of politicians must hold them accountable, but they do not care how their husbands make money, as they enjoy it and give them more sex, encouraging them to lie, steal, scheme, and destroy the poor.

The man of God highlighted that he is not cursing anyone, but the evil that men do lives after them, adding that the law of sowing and reaping does not need your address or telephone number when it is time for one to reap.

Duncan-Williams, in the viral video, stated, “Because they push for their party to come to power, even though they don’t have the capacity, they are given positions without merit, and they misbehave. And they have wives who will never tell their husbands.

“You have never worked before, you’ve never set up any business, you don’t pay taxes. How come suddenly you come home with a briefcase of money? Where is this money coming from? Where is this brand-new car coming from? Where did you get money to build this new house?”

“You don’t ask questions. You enjoy it and give him more sex, encouraging him to kill, lie, steal, scheme, destroy, and make money at the expense of poor people. You don’t understand the implications. I’m not cursing anybody, but I’m telling you by authority, make no mistake”.

Duncan-Williams added“The evil that men do lives after them. Make no mistake. The law of sowing and reaping does not need your address or telephone number. When it is time for you to reap, it will find you”.

Duncan Williams added, “As long as you belong to a party, when your party comes into office, you are given a position to share the national cake. You take what you please at the expense of the suffering citizens. And you think you are going free? No…you will end up with some evil disease.

“We live in a society that is passive and cowardly. You see what is wrong, and nobody talks; a day will come when truth shall emerge; it does not matter how long you hide it. You think you are powerful today, we are destroying one another, we are destroying the country,” he added.

In related news, Archbishop Charles Agyinasare, the founder of Perez Chapel International, has declared that public officers and ordinary people who steal will vomit them.

According to Archbishop Charles Agyinasare, a person who engages in a corrupt act will pay for their actions.

Speaking in a viral video shared on X on January 18, 2026, Archbishop Agyinasare stated, “Public officers and those who go into public office, including politics, and within four years acquire more than a house and a good car because they stole, inflated prices, or inflated contracts, will vomit it”.

He added, “Ordinary people who work for others in this nation and steal from them will also vomit it,” he added.

In an earlier news, Archbishop Charles Agyinasare has urged the John Mahama-led government to make sure that persons who looted state resources are not left unpunished.

According to Archbishop Charles Agyinasare, although the Mahama government has ushered in fresh hope for renewal and reform, no accused person has been tried and jailed after a year.

Speaking to his congregation on 31st December 2025, Watch-night Agyinasare quoted Ecclesiastes 8:11 to drive home the need to punish criminals. “Because sentence against an evil work is not executed speedily, therefore, the heart of the sons of men is fully set in them to do evil.”

He lamented, “In one year of the NDC government, not many have been tried and jailed yet, even though there was so much campaigning on dealing with corruption. We must turn around and insist that punishment meets wrongdoing and those who have swallowed our riches must be made to vomit.”

The man of God added, “AI analysis reflects a common Ghanaian perception: politics is seen as a route to personal enrichment—procurement scandals, weak accountability, and a ‘soli’ culture of cash handouts, especially during elections.”

“The way some politicians are enriching themselves before the ordinary citizens very soon we would have more politicians than citizens because everyone would want to be a politician.”

“Don’t hand over any liquid cash to African leaders” – Dan Kwaku Yeboah on slavery reparatory

“I am not looking for money, I need justice” – Ibrahim Mahama speaks after meeting with POMAB

0

Ibrahim Mahama, a Renowned Ghanaian visual artist, has stated he is pursuing justice rather than money in his alleged assault by police officers.

Speaking to the media after the meeting with the Police Management Board (POMAB) on Thursday, March 26, 2026, Ibrahim Mahama stated, “No, we are not looking for compensation. There is no way we are looking for money. Obviously, I don’t need that. It’s not about that. It’s more just about justice”.

“We just want to make sure people understand what transpired that day. Because we are all in the country, we are in a democracy. We want to understand what is happening and see how we can solve it,” he added.

“So that when other people are elsewhere, and things like this happen, at least they are assured that in the country they live in, their matter will be taken seriously and there will be some kind of justice,” he said.

It will be recalled that Ibrahim Mahama, was allegedly assaulted by the IGP’s special operations team, also known as Black Maria, in Tamale.

Reports suggest he was beaten for filming the Black Maria team as they unsuccessfully forced their way through a traffic jam while on a mission.

Speaking in an interview, Ibrahim Mahama stated, “They broke into our bus, forced me to open my phone and deleted the pictures. From the beginning to the end, everything was an assault”.

“The Police (Black Maria) team with their sirens tried to pass through the traffic by clearing the way, but were not successful. After several attempts, they began confronting the motorists, which resulted in physical assault on the civilians,” he explained.

“They beat us up and forced my boss Ibrahim Mahama to open his password and delete the videos. They took us to Sakasaka Police Station and beat us up again,” Ibrahim Mahommed further stated.

Following the assault, Ibrahim Mahama and the other injured persons were taken to Habannah Hospital in Tamale for treatment.

The artist lost two of his front teeth as a result of the attack.

Speaking at a press conference in Tamale on Monday, March 23, Ibrahim Mahama stated, “Certainly, we are considering legal action. It’s very important. It’s a no-brainer. We have to do it”.

“It’s not for me, but it’s actually for everyone else because if this could happen to me, as well-known as I am, then what about the people on the street? Who’s going to speak for that person? So, we have to do it for the benefit of the collective society that we’re in.”

Ibrahim Mahama further added, “That evening, I was meant to travel to the UK because I had to go and give some lectures in some schools from Cambridge to Oxford to the Royal College in London, and also continue to Helsinki for work and then to Amsterdam and then to South Africa before coming home”.

“But all those trips have to be cancelled, and I don’t think I can even travel for the next month because the last few days I have not even eaten solid food because my lips are all bruised, and three of my teeth are broken, I have sores in my mouth. Currently, it has put my entire life on hold.”

The Ghanaian artist further raised concerns about Black Maria’s alleged pattern of abuse.

He added, “Of course, we’ve heard many stories about the same unit and the brutalities. That’s why they could say that we could kill you and nothing will happen.”

“If at the end of the day, through these brutal actions, a lot of us young people will not feel like we need to stay in a place like this, then it’s rather on the bad side of justice,” he said.

Meanwhile, the Ghana Police Service has confirmed a probe into the assault on the internationally-acclaimed artist and Founder and owner of Red Clay Studio, Ibrahim Mahama, by “some officers”, but denies Black Maria’s involvement.

According to the Police, Black Maria Team was withdrawn from the Northern Region by the IGP on March 5.
