0

The Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) has announced that the four Ghanaian peacekeepers serving in southern Lebanon are in stable condition following a missile attack on the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL) in southern Lebanon.

According to the Ghana Armed Forces (GAF), the Ghanaian peacekeepers serving in southern Lebanon remain in high spirits despite the recent missile attack on their base.

GAF, in its update on Sunday, March 8, 2026, detailed that three of the soldiers sustained minor injuries, while one was critically wounded during the attack.

The statement signed by Naval Captain Veronica Adzo Arhin, Acting Director General of Public Relations for the Ghana Armed Forces, read, “The Ghana Armed Forces wishes to inform the general public that following the recent missile attack or he Headquarters of the Ghanaian Battalion serving with the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon, four soldiers are injured; three minor and one critical. The critically injured soldier has successfully undergone surgery and is responding to treatment. All injured soldiers are currently in stable condition.

Additionally, fourteen officers whose accommodation was completely burnt down have since been re- kitted, re-accommodated and provided some support. Despite the incident, the Battalion is in high spirits, and morale remains high.

The Ghana Armed Forces expresses its profound gratitude to the general public for the continued solidarity”.

GAF update follows  Ghanaian Battalion Headquarters under the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL) in southern Lebanon came under two missile attacks amid ongoing clashes between the Israel Defence Forces and Hezbollah.

Three Ghanaian soldiers were critically injured, and one other was left traumatised, while the Officers’ Mess was completely destroyed by fire.

GAF in an earlier statement wrote, “The Ghana Armed Forces wishes to inform the general public that as a fallout of the current ongoing IDF and Hezbollah exchanges in Southern Lebanon, the Ghanaian Battalion Headquarters in United Nations Interim Force (UNIFIL), Lebanon came under two missile attacks between 1745 and 1752 hours local time today.

Two soldiers are critically injured, while one other has been traumatised. Additionally, the Officers’ Mess facility also got hit and has been burnt down completely. The injured are receiving treatment at the Level One Medical Bunker and are currently stable while arrangements are underway for their evacuation to the UNIFIL Headquarters Referral Hospital.

The Ghana Armed Forces assures the general public to remain calm amidst the fragile situation as troops are currently safe in underground bunkers.

Meanwhile, the Government of Ghana, through the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, has protested the unfortunate incident at the United Nations’ HQ in New York and urged the parties involved in the conflict in UNIFIL to be mindful of their responsibilities regarding the safety of all peacekeepers in the theatre”.

Some Ghanaians reacting to the news wrote, “This whole thing of “peace keeping” is just funny.

There is war in your own country – the Buwku war, you could not bring peace to the people of Buwku and Ghana as a whole, what kind of peace are you keeping there?”

“Yesterday, everyone was curious about who did it, you didn’t mention. Today too, you didn’t. What do you want us to do with this write-up?

Do you want us to go and donate roofing sheets?

Mention who did it!”, a netizen added.

One more Ghanaian added, “I wonder why our forces are still in that region when they can easily be bombed and nobody will do anything, nothing will happen to the perpetrators, and the only excuse will probably be it was a mistake. But families here would have lost their breadwinners”.

“Ghana has served in UNIFIL enough – Lebanon and Israel should learn to live together in peace as neighbours.

If they can’t, then it’s their problem!! #TimeToBringThemHome”, a netizen added.

Women’s Development Bank is in the final stages – Mahama

0

President John Mahama has said that his government’s flagship Women’s Development Bank is in the final stages.

According to John Mahama, the Women’s Development Bank had been under the leadership of Vice President Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang.

He highlighted that when women succeed, families thrive, and nations prosper.

Speaking in his address on Ghana’s 69th Independence Day Anniversary Celebration National Parade at the Forecourt of the Presidency in Accra, John Mahama stated, “Our women entrepreneurs have historically been the backbone of Ghana’s informal economy, and yet too many of them face barriers to affordable credit”.

“This Women’s Development Bank will provide accessible financing, mentorship, and business support that is tailored to women-led enterprises.”

“Women of Ghana are committed to investing so that you realise your full potential. Ghana’s destiny is inseparable from Africa’s destiny.”

In related news, Vice President Professor Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang has announced that the government’s flagship Women’s Development Bank will be rolled out soon.

According to Professor Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang,  a two-day workshop has been assembled to finalise key implementation strategies for the initiative.

Speaking at the 65th End-of-Year Gathering and General Meeting of the Greater Accra Markets Association (GAMA), the vice president stated, “Our aim is not speed for its own sake, but sustainability and impact. We are determined to build progressively and deliver on a mandate that genuinely benefits those who have long been left in the gaps of our economic system. The women in our markets deserve nothing less”.

Women are not lazy; it is help that we need. Every major policy needs appropriate preparation and consultation, so it thrives,” she said.

The vice president, in a subsequent post on social media, further detailed government is taking deliberate steps to ensure the Women’s Development Bank is structured to serve its intended purpose.

She wrote, “Later today, I attended the Greater Accra Markets Association (GAMA) End of Year Gathering and General Meeting 2026. It was an honour to be with hardworking market women whose daily efforts keep our local economies thriving. Our markets depend on the strength of the women who work in them. Peace, stability, and community resilience often start with women, and their role in sustaining families and the nation cannot be overstated.

I acknowledged the difficult conditions under which many market women operate. Our market women deserve to work with dignity, safety, and peace. Addressing these concerns has led to accelerated infrastructure development, including market revitalization projects.

I also commended the Association for adopting a theme that promotes healthy living, reflecting an understanding that economic empowerment must go hand in hand with well-being.

I reaffirmed the Government’s commitment to establishing the Women’s Development Bank. Extensive stakeholder engagement is ongoing, and we are taking deliberate steps to ensure the Bank is structured to serve its intended purpose. Our aim is not speed for its own sake, but sustainability and impact. We are determined to build progressively and deliver on a mandate that genuinely benefits those who have long been left in the gaps of our economic system. The women in our markets deserve nothing less”, her post concluded.

MC Yaa Yeboah blows alarm on bread preservatives after experimenting with Shoprite bread

0

Ghanaian media personality and entertainment pundit, MC Yaa Yeboah, has blown an alarm on the quality and shelf life of commercially produced bread after purchasing loaves from Shoprite and another store on February 23, 2026.

According to Yaa Yeboah, she purchased two loaves of bread from Shoprite, putting one in the freezer and only consuming half of the other and also purchased another loaf of bread from another shop.

She disclosed that after some days, half of the Shoprite bread developed mould but was very soft, but the other bread from other shop was just hard with no mould, which led her to question the types of preservatives used.

Yaa Yeboah further revealed that she added a slice of the other shop’s bread, which was hard and showed no signs of going bad, to the Shoprite bread with mould, but the slice of bread still just had a little mould after some days.

She acknowledged that some additives may be approved, but urged the Food and Drugs Authority (FDA) to ensure clearer ingredient labelling to better protect consumers, especially those with allergies.

The media personality experiment highlighted that  Shoprite bread was the better bread without much preservatives because it got mouldy after a few days when left unrefrigerated.

Some Ghanaians reacting to her viral video stated, “Can she confirm when both breads came out of the oven? Because that is critical to her experiment. Some bakers have unique ingredients that set apart the quality of their bread, which may impact their response to the environment. That doesn’t necessarily mean they are harmful. But it’s always good to help people clear their doubts”.

One X user added, “People have misunderstood the post. What she means is the ShopRite bread is better. Bread without preservatives should get mouldy after a few days when left unrefrigerated”.

“Me, I don’t eat ShopRite bread at all because the last time I left a brown bread inside my fridge and travelled for just 2 days, what I came to meet was shocking, hmm, let’s all be guided please”, a netizen added.

“But the bread spoiling is actually a good sign. But the way she presented it may siggest otherwise”, a netizen added.

One X user added, “Bread’s shorter shelf life is due to its ingredients and preservatives, which have limited durability. We need to watch the food we buy and consume, not just bread. Food safety is personal, not solely  FDA’s responsibility; they regulate but aren’t present at every production”.

“Bread is supposed to last for 2-4 days from the day of baking without preservatives, and will not be like the Shoprite one. Also, the other one, which seems okay, has been loaded with preservatives to keep it long, and that is dangerous in a way”.

Her video has surfaced at a time when there is a brouhaha surrounding a Ghanaian plantain chips seller, who has claimed there is nothing wrong with frying plantain chips with plastic bags.

The Plantain chips seller made these claims while she demonstrated how the chips are fried using plastic bags to achieve a crisp finish.

According to the Plantain chips seller, the plastic does not melt into the oil, and as such, arguing that the current public outrage is only being generated by some persons to destroy their businesses.

Speaking in a video shared by SIKAOFFICIAL on X, the Plantain chips seller boldly claimed, “There’s nothing wrong with frying plantain chips with plastic bags. Family, look at this; the plantain chips that you claim we fry with plastic bags, I don’t understand. Look at the plastic bag we placed in the oil. It is still the same even after putting it in the hot oil.

So, I don’t understand why Ghanaians have believed the claim that we fry with plastic bags. What at all happens when we put the bag in the oil to fry that you want to spoil our business?” she quizzed.

She further added, “If it’s a deliberate thing you are doing to destroy our businesses, then please stop because you won’t gain anything”.

If Ghanaians are feeling palpable hardship, what is the essence of economic gains – Ntim Fordjour

0

Rev. John Ntim Fordjour, the Ranking Member on Parliament’s Defence and Interior Committee, has said if Ghanaians are feeling palpable hardship, what is the essence of economic gains.

The Assin Central MP criticised the government’s economic narrative, stressing that the macroeconomic indicators mean little if Ghanaians continue to face severe hardship.

Speaking on the floor of parliament during the debate of the 2026 State of the Nation Address presented by John Dramani Mahama, Rev. John Ntim Fordjour stated, “Amid all the threats in our geopolitics and amid the threat of extremism and violent extremism and terrorism, we cannot continue to have these calls go on deaf ears”.

“Today we can boast about inflation going down, we can boast about the exchange rate going down, but if our citizens are feeling palpable hardship, then what is the essence of what appears to be declining?” he asked.

He added, “What shall it profit this government if you are bragging about artificial economic improvement when you are not even able to pay cocoa farmers what is due them for four good months?”

“What shall it profit a country to have exchange rates that appear to be low and inflation that appears to be low, when the government even fails to pay the pensions of our soldiers and the rent allowances of our hardworking prison officers?” he added.

Also, Minority Leader Alexander Afenyo-Markin has quizzed the John Mahama government whether Ghanaians are going to eat inflation.

Afenyo-Markin highlighted that what is inflation on paper when it has no effect in the pocket of the ordinary Ghanaian.

According to him, macroeconomic stability can be achieved on paper for the IMF and World Bank, but the real stability is when the Ghanaian people go to the market and experience lower prices.

Speaking to the media after President John Mahama delivered the 2026 State of the Nation Address, Afenyo-Markin stated, “He talks about inflation having come down. Are we going to eat inflation? What is inflation on paper when it does not affect the pocket of the ordinary Ghanaian?”

“If the President is talking about Macroeconomic stability, you can achieve stability on paper for the IMF and World Bank, but the real stability is when the Ghanaian people go to the market and experience lower prices on foodstuffs.

But when they are complaining, you cannot use paper inflation to claim credit and ask us to applaud you. We will not applaud the government, we are not interested”.

In parliament, speaking in response to the 2026 State of the Nation Address, Afenyo-Markin quizzed President John Dramani Mahama if Ghanaans are going to eat macroeconomic indicators and inflation.

According to Afenyo-Markin, the cocoa farmers have reduced the producer price, and Ghanaians continue to suffer under galamsey hardship.

Speaking in response to the 2026 State of the Nation Address, Afenyo-Markin stated, “As we speak, there is a scandal looming in security services recruitment, Trybe Net. We know who brought that company to the Ministry. Karma has a way, and the Minority will pursue the person and make sure there is full disclosure.

“The cocoa farmers have reduced the producer price, and Eric Opoku cannot be found, and they are telling us, Inflation, macroeconomics, Macroeconomics ‘na ye be di…Ghanaians continue to suffer under galamsey hardship, and we expect concrete action to be taken on galamsey.

In related news, Felix Kwakye Ofosu, the Minister for Government Communications, has said this year’s Independence Day celebration will cost about GH¢1.5 million.

Speaking in an interview on Joy FM on March 5, Kwakye Ofosu stated, “It is to save cost. We have decided to save money and use it for other pressing national issues. It will cost 95 per cent less than the previous cost, and that amounts to about GH¢1.5 million”.

Sixty-nine years of nationhood is a very significant achievement,”

He added, “Over the years, we have had our ups and downs as a country, but by and large, we have managed to hold ourselves together. We’ve built a nation that is inclusive, where there is religious and social tolerance”.

‘₵14,000 for one laptop’ – MP blows alarm on alleged chop-chop under One Million Coders Programme

0

A New Patriotic Party (NPP) member of parliament for Mpraeso, Davis Opoku Ansah, has blown an alarm on an alleged chop-chop under the John Mahama government’s One Million Coders Programme.

According to Davis Opoku, the government is overpricing laptops under the One Million Coders Programme, with each unit costing ₵14,000.

Davis Opoku highlighted that a high-end computer that should be used for coding should not cost more than ₵10,000.

The NPP MP further stressed that the purchase of the laptops without budgetary allocation breaches the Public Financial Management Act and called it a potential avenue for corruption.

Speaking on the floor of parliament, MP Davis Opoku Ansah stated, “Last year, the cabinet had to cause the National Communications Authority to fund the purchase of computers under the One Million Coders Program. This is a clear violation of the Public Financial Management Act.

Cabinet and, for that matter, the president cannot cost an institution of state to fund another institutional fit when it’s not budgeted. And I think this should be something we shouldn’t encourage”.

He further added, “What is a bit more worrying is that the Ministry of Communication intends to purchase one computer for 14,000 Ghana cedis. If you look at their projections, today a laptop will be purchased for 140 million under His Excellency John Dramani Mahama’s administration.

140 million under His Excellency John Dramani Mahama’s administration, we are wondering what proper procurement measures were put in place to ensure that there is value for money”.

The NPP MP further added, “One, you are violating the Public Financial Management Act. Two, you’re overpricing prices. In fact, Mr Speaker, just a trip to Osu here will indicate that a high-end computer that should be used for coding should not cost more than 10 thousand Ghana cedis.

But today, when the Ministry intends to purchase over 2,000 pieces of computer, they are purchasing one for 14 thousand Ghana cedis. 140 million, Mr Speaker, if this is not chop-chop, then I’m wondering what. How much is my phone? How much is the computer?”

Meanwhile, some Ghanaians reacting to the video stated, “What specification of laptop and what are the teams of the contract.@Citi973 please yes, people will always say whatever and you report, but you should always go further to give details”.

“Hmmmmmmmm. Is it a laptop with some special software or what? We need to be educated on this. Coders program, very good initiative, but must not be the avenue to siphon the state’s limited resources. lets listen to the side of the govt”, a netizen added.

“This country’s politicians can’t help in such a technical area. Just imagine 1million coders program under the US government or even the Rwanda government”, one more netizen added.

One more X user added, “Good policy, but the same politician will be the ones purchasing these on behalf of the nation at ridiculous prices. A debt-ridden country with our leaders always looking for opportunities to cheat and steal from the taxpayers. Sad indeed”.

Meanwhile, President John Dramani Mahama, at the launch of the  “One Million Coders” program, described it as more than a fulfilled campaign promise.

According to him, it is a strategic pillar for the reset Ghana agenda.

Speaking at the launch of the programme on April 16, 2025, John Mahama, “The One Million Coders program is not just a fulfilled campaign promise. It is a strategic pillar of our Reset Ghana agenda. Designed to empower Ghanaians with digital skills critical for 21st-century life and work.

“It is an intentional move towards building a knowledge-based innovation-driven economy, one where our greatest resource, our people, are equipped to create solutions, generate jobs, and be able to compete globally. At the heart of this initiative is our belief in the Ghanaian youth. We believe in your creativity, your resilience, and your boundless potential. This program is an investment in our youth, investment in their future as coders, as analysts, as entrepreneurs, and as tech pioneers,” he added.

“Over the next four years, the One Million Coders program will train one million Ghanaians in essential digital skills, from coding and cybersecurity to data analytics and networking. These are not just technical abilities. They are economic passports, pathways to decent jobs, entrepreneurship, and long-term socio-economic inclusion,” he added.

US declassified documents reveal CIA plotted Kwame Nkrumah’s removal – Mahama

0

President John Dramani Mahama, during the 68th Independence Anniversary celebration last year, announced that declassified documents from the United States archives reveal CIA plotted the removal of Ghana’s first president, the late Osagyefo Dr Kwame Nkrumah.

According to John Mahama, declassified US intelligence documents showed that the CIA was behind the coup that removed Nkrumah while he was out of the country.

Speaking at the 68th Independence Day parade at Jubilee House on March 6, 2025, stated, “The verdict of history is now loud and clear. Declassified documents from the United States archives reveal that this was a coup inspired and engineered by the CIA”.

“Osagyefo Dr Kwame Nkrumah, the founder of our nation, envisioned an industrialised, self-reliant Ghana whose citizens have the highest standard of economic life and the greatest sense of self-esteem, rooted in patriotism and Pan-African unity.

He added, “But on February 24, 1966, a joint military and police coup d’état shattered that dream, plunging Ghana into decades of instability and military takeovers.”

In recent times, Kwesi Pratt Jnr, a Veteran journalist and Managing Editor of the Insight newspaper, has said that claims that General Emmanuel Kwasi Kotoka staged the February 24, 1966, coup against Kwame Nkrumah are completely falsifying history.

According to Kwesi Pratt, the coup against Kwame Nkrumah was planned, sponsored and activated by the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) of the United States of America, with Kotoka, Afrifa and others being mere fronts.

In a post shared on X, Kwesi Prat wrote, “To claim that General Emmanuel Kwasi Kotoka staged the February 24, 1966, coup against Nkrumah is to completely falsify history.

The fact is that the coup was planned, sponsored and activated by the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) of the United States of America and that Kotoka, Afrifa and others were mere fronts.

The facts have been made public in the declassified documents of the CIA on the coup, which have been compiled in the book “The Great Deception – How the CIA Overthrew Nkrumah” authored by the Socialist Movement of Ghana (SMG).

Copies of this book are available at the Freedom Bookshop, 16 Laimomo Close, Asylum Down, Accra, Ghana. The Bookshop can also be reached on telephone, 050462184. Digital Address – GA 048-5576”.

Also, Historian Yaw Anokye Frimpong and Lawyer have disclosed that Ghana would have become a World Superpower if Dr Kwame Nkrumah had not overthrown as President.

According to Yaw Anokye Frimpong, Kwame Nkrumah was going to build an atomic bomb, which is known today as a nuclear bomb.

He detailed that Americans were afraid of Kwame Nkrumah and Ghana becoming a Superpower which led to the coup against him.

The Historian highlighted that Kwame Nkrumah’s overthrow had nothing to do with Democracy but the threat he posed at the time.

Speaking on UTV in a one-on-one interview, Yaw Anokye Frimpong detailed, “In 1960, Nkrumah was going to build a nuclear bomb in Ghana. In the olden days in was known as the Atomic Bomb. He was going to build some here, that is what is known as the Kwabenya Atomic today. If he had not overthrown, Ghana would have become a World power.

The Americans were afraid of him. When the coup happened, the Americans told Kotoka and Afrifa that they needed only two things. They wanted to know the mind of Nkrumah, so no one should touch his books or papers in his room. So, all of Nkrumah’s library at his home was ransacked by the CIA, and they also came for all the equipment he was going to use for the Nuclear weapon.

Kotoka and Afrifa gave the equipment to the CIA, which got the Russians mad because it was Russian technology”.

He further added, “A lot of people do not know that it was the UN that permitted Nkrumah to do it under the Atom for food, the UN passed it, and they were looking for one African country to give them the clearance to build the nuclear and Ghana won. South Africa wanted it, but they had the Apartheid, Egypt also wanted it, but they were Arabs, so Nkrumah bidded, and he won, so the whole world accepted it.

Later, they realised the Atomic Bomb will make Ghana a superpower, so they had to remove Nkrumah. The removal of Nkrumah had nothing to do with Democracy”.

Watch throwback video of Dr Kwame Nkrumah ICONIC Independence Speech

0

A throwback video of Dr Kwame Nkrumah’s iconic Independence Day speech has resurfaced on Ghana’s 69th Independence Day celebrations.

Sixty-nine years ago today, Ghana’s first President, Dr Kwame Nkrumah, officially declared the independence of the Gold Coast from British colonial rule, making Ghana the first sub-Saharan African country to gain independence.

As Ghana celebreate it 69th independence today, we celebrate the courage, sacrifice, and vision of those who fought for our freedom and laid the foundation for the nation we proudly call home.

Read Dr Kwame Nkrumah’s full speech, Sixty-nine years ago today:

“At long last, the battle has ended!  And thus, Ghana, your beloved country, is free forever!

And yet again, I want to take the opportunity to thank the people of this country: the youth, the farmers, the women who have so nobly fought and won the battle.

Also, I want to thank the valiant ex-service men who have so cooperated with me in this mighty task of freeing our country from foreign rule and imperialism.

And, as I pointed out… from now on, today, we must change our attitudes and our minds.  We must realise that from now on we are no longer a colonial but free and independent people.

But also, as I pointed out, that also entails hard work.  That new Africa is ready to figt his own battles and show that, after all, the black man is capable of managing his own affairs.

We are going to demonstrate to the world, to the other nations, that we are prepared to lay our foundation – our own African personality.

As I said to the Assembly a few minutes ago, I made a point that we are going to create our own African personality and identity.  It is the only way we can show the world that we are ready for our own battles.

But today, may I call upon you all, that on this grer that at day let us all remember that nothing can be done unless it has the purport and support of God.

We have won the battle and again rededicate ourselves … OUR INDEPENDENCE IS MEANINGLESS UNLESS IT IS LINKED UP WITH THE TOTAL LIBERATION OF AFRICA.

Let us now, fellow Ghanaians, let us now ask for God’s blessing for only two seconds, and in your thousands and millions.

I want to ask you to pause for only one minute and give thanks to Almighty God for having led us through our difficulties, imprisonments, hardships and sufferings, to have brought us to our end of troubles today. One minute silence.

Ghana is free forever!  And here I will ask the band to play the Ghana National Anthem.

Reshaping Ghana’s destiney, I am depending on the millions of the country, and the chiefs and the people, to help me to reshape the destiny of this country.  We are prepared to pick it up and make it a nation that will be respected by every nation in the world.

We know were going to have difficult beginnings, but again, I am relying on your support….  I am relying upon your hard work.

Seeing you in this…  It doesn’t matter how far my eyes go, I can see that you are here in your millions.  And my last warning to you is that you are to stand firm behind us so that we can prove to the world that when the African is given a chance, he can show the world that he is somebody!

We have awakened.  We will not sleep anymore. Today, from now one, there is a new African in the world!”

‘Ex-convict’ Agradaa free but … – Justice Abdulai explains

Justice Abdulai, a Lawyer and lecturer at the Law School of UPSA, has disclosed that evangelist Patricia Asiedua Asiamah, popularly known as Agradaa, is free, but her ex-convict’s status triggers some legal restrictions on her.

The lawyer explained that although Agradaa has completed her sentence, some restrictions may apply depending on the nature of her conviction.

Justice Abdulai further added that as an ex-convicts Agradaa may face legal complications that could affect certain positions or roles in society.

He disclosed that the restrictions generally persist in place for up to 10 years after the completion of the individual’s sentence.

According to him, should Agradaa get involved with the law again, she may face a harsher sentence.

He, however, clarified that outside these limitations, Agradaa is free to travel, work and live normally, provided she remains within the bounds of the law.

Justice Abdulai is quoted to have said, “She is completely free like any other Ghanaian with her full constitutional rights”.

“For instance, a person may not be able to stand for a seat in Parliament, be a director of a company, or even contest for the presidency,” he noted.

“If she gets involved with the law again, she may receive a harsher sentence than someone without a previous conviction,” he added.

Meanwhile, Agradaa has broken her silence ahead of her release from the Nsawam Prison on March 3, 2026.

According to Agradaa, she was scared after she was sentenced to prison and thought he was already dead.

She further disclosed that she never believed she was going to be jailed for 15 years, arguing that what crime did she commit?

In a video posted by the Ghana Prisons Service, Agradaa discussed her experiences during her time in prison before her release.

In the video, she emphasised her strong faith in God, which helped her endure her time in the cells.

Speaking in a video shared by the Ghana Prison Service, Agradaa stated, “When I was coming, I was scared, I knew as for prison I am dead already, when I got to the prison gate, the only thing I said was ‘I leave everything to God and asked for mercy’, because I did not know what would happen.

When I was sentenced to 15 years in prison, from the first day, I did not believe it. I asked myself what crime I had committed, so I did not believe I would be in jail for 15 years. So I believe that only prayers and God’s words were the only things that could help me. First of all, I will give glory to God, and this does not surprise me too much because I believe God can do it”.

Agradaa also shared how she drew inspiration from the stories of prominent individuals who had been imprisoned, using their experiences as a guide to navigate her own journey.

She added, “God’s work brought me to prison, so I took inspiration from those who were also jailed because of God’s work. So I read the Bible to see how they got their freedom, and it was the word of God and prayer”.

Background

Agradaa was released from Nsawam prison on March 3, 2026, following a reduced sentence.

The Amasaman High Court described Agradaa’s original punishment as harsh and excessive under the circumstances of the case.

The Amasaman High Court, in its decision, affirmed her conviction but exercised its discretion to vary the sentence, reducing the 15 years of hard labour earlier imposed by the trial court.

Agradaa’s revised sentence takes effect from July 3, 2025, the date of her conviction, which means she will serve a total of 12 months in prison.

The court decision will now see Agradaa being freed from prison by July 2026.

The Amasaman High Court added that although the offences for which Agradaa was convicted warranted punishment, the severity of the initial sentence was disproportionate under the circumstances, justifying a downward adjustment.

A student of the University of Cape Coast (UCC), named Caleb Mensah, popularly known as Paywa, has tragically lost his life.

Reports suggest the UCC student left his student ID upon arriving at the examination room and was asked to go back for it.

According to The State News, the UCC student, while in the process, picked up a motorbike but was unfortunately hit by a shuttle and lost his life.

The State News in the post stated, “BREAKING—

A student of the University of Cape Coast (UCC), named Caleb Mensah, popularly known as Paywa, left his student ID upon arriving at the examination room and was asked to go back for it. In the process, he picked a motorbike but was unfortunately hit by a shuttle and lost his life”.

However, some netizens under the post shared a different account of how the UCC student died.

According to some netizen Caleb Mensah fell from the motorcycle after the bike and was runover by the shuttle.

Some Ghanaians reacting to the tragic news stated, One X user claimed the student died after falling from the motorbike with the shuttle running over him,  “misinformation… he wasn’t hit by the shuttle driver … he fell from the bike after hitting a pot hole, and the shuttle passed over him”

An X user added, “According to preliminary reports, Caleb was reportedly a *passenger on a motorcycle* when an item fell from the bike. As the motorcycle turned back to retrieve it, the bike allegedly *hit a pothole**, causing Caleb to jump off the motorcycle*.In an unfortunate turn of events ½”

“That’s why adey love Legon ooo, no space for primitivism. You’d just be asked to download your temporal ID from your STS, and you’re good to go.

We’re in a modern world, but some universities will still choose to make their systems finchiimmm like kako 2gh”, a netizen added.

One more X user added, “It is important to send your ID  to the exam room, but in unusual circumstances where the student has forgotten the ID, there must be a way of consideration at the last hour. Preventing the student from writing the exams at the last hour or asking the student to go back is a problem”.

A netizen added, “So the school authority could not identify the student even in the midst of his course mates? The university authorities k!lled him. I have experienced the same situation in the university. I had to provide my student ID before I was allowed to write the examination”.

“So who will in his right senses will bathe and go n sit for an exams if he’s not the one? You will talk of impersonation, don’t they have biometrics in this era? Waku no kwa”, a netizen added.

One netizen added, “Now that the invigilator will live the rest of his life with the guilt that it was his fault that led to the death of a young man”.

Additionally, an X user added, “Stupid university exam rules that have proven ineffective are still being used. Why not set up alternative student verification Systems? A biometric system could even help”.

World Superpowers US, UK, China ‘bullying’ Ghana to stop planned gold royalties

0

The Western Superpowers, the United States, the United Kingdom, and China, are reportedly bullying Ghana to stop the planned gold royalties.

Reports suggest that the John Mahama government want to replace its fixed 5% royalty with a sliding scale from 5% to 12% the move is seen by the government as a way to capture more revenue as gold hits record highs.

However, the report by Reuters.com suggests Ghana is being pressured to stop a planned increase in gold royalties that could hurt some of the world’s largest mining companies.

According to Reuters.com, the U.S., China, the UK, Canada, Australia, and South Africa have all intervened.

The Reuters.com story read, “Ghana is being pressured to stop a planned increase in gold royalties that could hurt some of the world’s largest mining companies, according to three sources and a letter seen by Reuters.

Ghana, Africa’s top gold producer, wants to replace its fixed 5% royalty with a sliding scale from 5% to 12%, linked to gold prices. The government says this will help capture more revenue as gold hits record highs.

Mining companies warn the top rates could make Ghana one of the most expensive places to mine in Africa and squeeze profits. Ghana has agreed to lower an existing levy to ease the reform, but companies say the proposed scale is still too high and have submitted lower alternative rates.

The U.S., China, the UK, Canada, Australia, and South Africa have all intervened, a level of diplomatic engagement described as unusual by senior industry executives.

“This is the first time I’ve seen the diplomatic community get involved at this scale,” one source said.

Officials from these missions met Ghana’s Lands and Natural Resources Minister this month and shared a joint document raising concerns, two people familiar with the meeting said. They are seeking further talks with the Finance Minister.

“The heads of missions expressed concern that the operating environment of the mines will be challenging,” one executive added.

The embassies of the UK, Canada, Australia, the U.S., South Africa, and China in Accra did not immediately respond to requests for comment.

Top executives from Newmont, Gold Fields, AngloGold Ashanti, and Perseus also raised their concerns directly with Ghana’s Lands Minister in December and January.

Chinese-owned mines, including Zijin, Chifeng, and Shandong Gold, have formally protested. A letter from the Association of China–Ghana Mining, seen by Reuters and copied to Beijing’s ambassador, warned the royalty plan could threaten Zijin’s Akyem, Chifeng’s Wassa, and Shandong’s Cardinal gold mines.

“The royalty issue has united companies like nothing in recent years,” the senior source said.

Mining companies have not responded to requests for comment. Ghana’s Lands and Finance Ministries also did not respond immediately.

Ghana-based gold producers posted strong results in 2025. Newmont earned over $7 billion, Gold Fields more than doubled profits, AngloGold Ashanti tripled earnings, and Perseus made $421.7 million, up 16 per cent from the previous year”.

Ghana Air Force receives newly acquired Airbus H175 helicopter from France

0

The Ghana Air Force has received the newly acquired Airbus H175 helicopter from France, marking a significant step in the ongoing modernisation and retooling of its operational fleet.

The acquisition forms part of a broader defence procurement programme approved by Parliament to enhance the operational capacity of the Ghana Armed Forces.

According to the Ghana Air Force, the state-of-the-art helicopter was ferried from Marignane, France and arrived in Accra, Ghana, on Thursday, 5 March 2026.

The Ghana Air Force, in a news story, wrote, “The arrival of the H175 forms part of a wider aircraft procurement initiative approved by Parliament, which includes the acquisition of one H160 and three H175 helicopters from Airbus Helicopters as well as a Falcon 6X long-range aircraft from Dassault Aviation. The programme is intended to address the operational limitations associated with the Air Force’s ageing fleet while significantly improving mission readiness and operational flexibility”.

Upon arrival at the Air Force Base in Accra, the aircraft was given a water cannon salute.  A water cannon salute is a ceremonial tradition in aviation where airport fire trucks spray arcs of water over an aircraft, creating a tunnel or arch of water as the aircraft taxis underneath.

It is widely used in military and civil aviation for a new aircraft arriving at an airport or joining a fleet. The water salute represents a formal welcome and celebration and it signifies that the aircraft has officially joined the Air Force or airport operations. The aircraft was then consecrated by the clergy led by the Director General of Religious Affairs, Brigadier General Benjamin Godson Kumi Wood”.

The Ghana Air Force story further detailed, The aircraft was received by the Acting Minster for Defence, Hon Dr Cassiel Ato Forson, Minister for Roads and Highways, Hon Kwame Governs Agbodza the Deputy Minister for Defence, Hon Ernest Brogya Gyenfi, the Deputy Head of Mission, French Embassy, His Excellency Raphael Pont, the Chief of the Defence Staff, Lieutenant General William Agyapong, the Chief of the Air Staff, Chief of the Naval Staff, Chief of Staff and senior officers of the Ghana Armed Forces. Their presence underscored the strategic importance of the acquisition and highlighted the strong and enduring defence cooperation between Ghana and France.

The addition of the Airbus H175 is expected to significantly enhance the Ghana Air Force’s operational capability across a wide range of missions, including search and rescue operations, medical evacuation, humanitarian assistance, disaster response, maritime surveillance, and troop and logistics transport. Equipped with advanced avionics, extended operational range, and increased payload capacity, the aircraft provides improved endurance, flexibility, and rapid response capability in addressing both conventional and emerging security challenges”.

The news comes following the aircraft manufacturer Airbus, some months ago, which announced that the government of Ghana had placed an order for multi-mission Airbus helicopters.

Airbus Helicopters announced that it had secured a contract from Ghana’s Ministry of Defence for the supply of four helicopters.

They identified the helicopters as two H175Ms, one ACH175, and one ACH160.

“Airbus revealed that under the agreement, two H175Ms will be deployed as multi-mission helicopters to support transport, search and rescue operations, emergency medical services, and disaster relief.

The ACH175 and ACH160 will be used primarily for transport duties”, citinews stated.

Arnaud Montalvo, Head of Africa and the Middle East Region for Airbus Helicopters, stated, “The commitment from Ghana marks the return of Airbus Helicopters to the country with a defined focus on customer support and partnership”.

“We are particularly excited that the H175M will be operated in Ghana, demonstrating the aircraft’s versatility across defence and security missions. This key deal also makes Ghana a leading customer in West Africa for our premium corporate helicopters, the ACH160 and ACH175,” Mr. Montalvo added.

It will be recalled that Finance Minister Ato Forson announced that the government will commence the procurement of four helicopters and two aircraft for the Ghana Air Force.

Presenting the 2026 Budget Statement to Parliament on Thursday, November 13, 2025, Mr Forson stated, “The Ghana Air Force will be retooled. Beginning in 2026, the Government of Ghana will initiate procurement processes for the acquisition of four modern helicopters, one long-range aircraft, and one medium-range aircraft. These are expected to be delivered within four years, provided the procurement is finalised in 2026”.

“In 2026, the government will procure two 72-meter Offshore Patrol Vessels equipped with helipads and combat systems. These vessels will enable the Navy to conduct long-endurance patrols, safeguard the Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ), prevent maritime crimes, protect critical offshore infrastructure, and support bunkering and oil field security operations,” he noted.

The news comes following Captain Paul Forjoe, a member of the investigative committee probing the tragic military helicopter crash on August 6, who has revealed that the crash report recommends that the Ghana Armed Forces acquire modern helicopters and a training simulator.

According to the investigative committee report, the Air Force must invest in simulators for recurrent pilot training.

He further added that Ghana contracts certified aviation weather providers and develops en route navigational aids, especially in remote areas.

Speaking during the official presentation of the findings, Captain Forjoe detailed, “We have recommended that the Air Force acquire modern aircraft with terrain avoidance warning systems and modern navigation systems”.

“The aircraft should also have cockpit voice recorders and flight data recorders, which are the audio-visual capable types.”

“There’s nothing wrong with frying plantain chips with plastic bags” – Plantain chips seller claims

0

A Ghanaian plantain chips seller has claimed there is nothing wrong with frying plantain chips with plastic bags.

The Plantain chips trader’s remark has ignited debate on X, with netizens saying, “ Herr education is really good o. Why does she think rubber shrank? Organic chemistry in tears rn”.

One more X user added, “I think you may have misunderstood her point. From what I gathered, she was suggesting that adding plastic to the oil does not make theplantains crispy or enhance their flavour. So, why would anyone add plastic when frying plantains? I could be wrong, but that’s my understanding”.

A netizen added, “Some of us actually prefer the plastic lining. It keeps the chips looking crisp, fresh and more appealing. They can offer two options, one with the plastic for those who value that extra crunch and presentation, and one without it for those who prefer a more natural package. That way, everyone gets what they prefer”.

One more Ghanaian wrote, “So common sense go tell you say the rubber is made with chemicals, and why does it shrink and will not remain in its normal state when dropped in the oil ?”

Another Ghanaian called on the FDA to act, “So, what is the purpose of a plastic in a frying plantain? The FDA must quickly act and get these people to do the right thing”.

“When someone can confidently say this on camera, the issue is bigger than outrage.

This isn’t about destroying businesses. It’s about public health standards. Food safety cannot depend on personal belief. It requires science and regulation”, a netizen added.

One last netizen added, “That’s not what she said!! Twi may seem easy to speak, but it takes tact and wisdom to understand. She said plastic stays the same and unchanged in oil, so of what use would it be to fry plantain with plastic when it doesn’t add any additional benefits or value to the plantain?”.

“The lady preparing the food seems innocent. But it’s unclear whether the plastic is actually in the frying pan with hot oil. If it is, or if it was used to bag hot chips, they should educate her about PFAS and offer locally and commercially viable alternatives. Instead of vilifying an honest woman trying to eke out a living, educate and aid her. Then watch her do better than you expected”, a netizen added.

Why should gov’t appropriate $13m when FIFA gives $10.5m? – NPP man clashes with NDC MP over Black Stars budget

0

Kwadwo Poku, a member of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) communications team and the NDC MP for Berekum West, Dickson Kyere-Duah, have clashed over the Black Stars’ proposed budget for the 2026 World Cup.

According to the NDC MP, the president is taking a taking proactive measures, adding that the expenditure depends on how far the team will progress in the tournament.

Speaking during a panel discussion on the AM Show aired on JoyNews on February 5, 2026, Dickson Kyere-Duah stated, “The president is taking proactive measures. The money is coming from FIFA. By merely qualifying without touching a ball, you get $10.5 million”.

Budgeting doesn’t mean it is spent from the start to the final. If you’re eliminated after the group stage, you will not spend all the $13 million. After every match, you’re also given additional money.”

“The point I’m making is that you have a president who does not treat sports as an afterthought, and we are fully prepared. Are you against us going to the World Cup?” he questioned.

However, Kwadwo Poku argued that since Ghana cannot recoup the same amount from the competition, it is not financially prudent to commit such funds to the team.

He noted that FIFA, which is organising the tournament, gives you $10 million for qualification, so why should the government appropriate $13 million?.

He stated, “With the money we spend, do we get it back? If they get $10 million for qualifying, why is the government of Ghana giving them $13 million? FIFA, who is organising the tournament, gives you $10 million; that’s how much they think you need to spend to participate.

I agree. But I’m saying, listen, for your preparation to come to the World Cup, you are given $10 million.

“If that money has been given, why is the government also appropriating $13 million on top of the $10 million? Every World Cup, at the end of it, there’s a problem. You’re only looking at the sporting benefits. The point you are missing is that in November 2025, we did the 2026 budget,” he argued.

Their clash follows, Minister of Sports and Recreation, Kofi Adams’s who has announced that the Ghana Football Association (GFA) has proposed over $13 million for the Black Stars’ campaign at the 2026 World Cup.

According to Kofi Adams, the over $13 million for the Black Stars’ remains at the proposal stage, with discussions yet to be held with the Ghana Football Association (GFA) for scrutiny before final approval.

He explained that the figures could either be reduced or maintained depending on the outcome of deliberations.

Following the Sport Minister’s revelation, a detailed breakdown has emerged of how the GFA intends to spend the over $13 million.

According to reports, about $1,230,465 will be spend pre-tournament camping, which includes friendly matches and preparations at their training base ahead of the World Cup in the United States, Canada, and Mexico.

The breakdown also shows that approximately $6,284,000 is expected to be spent during Black Stars’ group stage against England, Croatia, and Panama.

In case the Black Stars qualify for the Round of 32, an estimated $690,000 will be spent, with another $920,000 estimated for the round of 16.

Also, $1,137,500 has been proposed for the quarter-finals, and another $1,365,000 for the semi-finals.

Members of the Black Star’s Management Committee are also expected to receive $310,000 as honorarium.

In case the Senior National team reach the final, an additional $1,840,000 will be required, bringing the entire proposed expenditure amount to $13,776,965.

See the detailed breakdown below:

Bawumia and the current NPP cannot even win an SRC election – NDC MP claims

0

Alamzy Billa Nikyema, the National Democratic Congress(NDC) Member of Parliament for Chiana-Paga, has claimed the current New Patriotic Party (NPP) and it Presidential candidate Dr Mahamudu Bawumia cannot even win an SRC election.

According to Alamzy Billa Nikyema, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia and the current NPP lack the political strength needed to win public support, doubting the party’s ability to regain political power in the future.

The NDC MP stressed that NPP members still confidently speak about winning the 2028 general elections when the party is struggling to maintain credibility among Ghanaians.

Alamzy Billa Nikyema stressed that the NPP failed Ghanaians in government, which left public dissatisfaction with the party, adding that the NPP will face challenges in convincing voters at the grassroots.

Speaking on the floor of parliament, Alamzy Billa Nikyema stated, “These people failed us with audacity, they failed us with audacity, and the most bizarre part is that any time they are making contributions, they will tell us that when we win power in 2028. Mr Speaker, my question is with which party and with which candidate?

“Mr Speaker, your current party, and your current candidate, you cannot even use the party and your current candidate to win SRC elections,” Mr Nikyema said.

Meanwhile, the Flagbearer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, has told members of the party their victory in 2028 will not be gifted to them.

Dr Bawumia stressed that the NPP victory in 2028 must be earned, constituency by constituency, household by household, with humility and purpose.

According to Dr Bawumia, the road ahead for the NPP is demanding discipline, sacrifice, and hard work.

Speaking at the National Thanksgiving Service at the University of Professional Studies, Accra (UPSA) on Sunday, February 15, 2026, Dr Bawumia stated, “The road ahead will demand discipline, sacrifice, and hard work. Victory in 2028 will not be gifted to us. It must be earned, constituency by constituency, household by household, with humility and purpose”.

“While at that, the re-organisation of our party structures will continue in earnest to give us the stronger and well-motivated machinery required for election 2028,” he added.

Dr Bawumia further called on NPP members to put behind personal grudges, internal suspicions and factional lines that arose during the NPP presidential primaries.

According to Dr Bawumia, party faithful should put aside hurt caused by heated campaign exchanges as the party reorganises for the future.

The NPP flagbearer added, “Let us put behind us personal grudges, internal suspicions and factional lines, let us rebuild trust among ourselves, let us return to the values that build this party service competence and respect for institution and believe in the Ghanaian people.

This is the beginning of our journey to win back the trust and love of the Ghanaian people; our nation requires the best effort that each of us can put into it, which requires that we all give the best of our ideas, our sweat, and our sacrifice to build the nation ourforebearers envisioned”.

Dr Bawumia highlighted that reunion remains vital as the NPP prepares for the next political cycle.

Dr Bawumia added, “On this day as we celebrate and give thanks together, I want to ask all of us, from the bottom of my heart, that we forgive each other for some of the unpalatable things we may have said during the campaign”.

“I have been encouraged by the efforts many of you have made to reach out to your brothers and sisters after the elections. Though I know the exercise of healing is not yet completed, I believe we have started well, and I commend all patriots for the steps taken so far,” he added.

“Don’t cut down cocoa trees, stand firm” – John Dumelo tells Cocoa farmers

0

John Dumelo, the Deputy Minister for Food and Agriculture, has urged cocoa farmers not to cut down their cocoa trees despite the recent drop in producer prices.

According to John Dumelo, the government is working stabilise the cocoa sector, urging the cocoa farmers to stand firm.

The Deputy Minister encouraged farmers to remain patient and continue nurturing their cocoa farms while the government address the challenges facing the industry.

John Dumelo, speaking to Citi News on the sidelines of the special launch of the 70th anniversary celebration of Akuafo Hall at the University of Ghana, stated, “When you go to the Ivory Coast, the price is even cheaper than Ghana, so it is not even worth it to smuggle cocoa there.

It is about the world cocoa prices. The cocoa farmers shouldn’t cut down the trees. They should stand firm, the government will pay them,” he said.

Meanwhile, a cocoa farmer at Pankese in the Eastern Region has warned President John Dramani Mahama to restors cocoa price, else all her cries will turn into curses on the government.

According to the irate cocoa farmer, she is a widow, and her late husband and her has been feeding on their cocoa farm.

She declared that cocoa farmers will storm Mahama’s house if he fails to restore the cocoa producer price.

Speaking during a visit by the Minority Caucus to cocoa farmers on March 3, 2026, the Cocoa farmer stated, “I want to thank the MPs who came. I am a widow, and I know God brought you here because of my plight. My late husband and I were cocoa farmers, and that is what has been feeding me,” she said.

“I want to appeal to President Mahama to pay us for the cocoa pods we supplied. If he doesn’t, all my cries will turn into curses on the government. Just like officials want their children to succeed, we also have the same desire. If they don’t heed our cries, we will march to his house to register our protest,” the farmer warned.

Additionally, President John Dramani Mahama has said his government’s decision to reduce the cocoa producer price is difficult but necessary.

Mahama explained that the reduction was aimed at addressing acute liquidity challenges within the cocoa sector.

According to John Mahama, maintaining the previous price would have compelled the government to borrow billions, which he says could have taken the country back into economic difficulties.

Delivering his 2026 State of the Nation Address (SONA) in Parliament, President Mahama explained, “Mr Speaker, a nation that does not learn from past mistakes cannot get out of the cycle of problems that impose hardship on its citizens.

We have just begun to emerge from the most devastating economic crisis in our nation’s recent history. This crisis was triggered by general financial indiscipline, huge deficits and massive debt occasioned by persistent unbudgeted expenditure to meet the ends of convenient politicking.

In the last few weeks, we have had to take the painful but necessary decision to revise the producer price of Cocoa to achieve competitive pricing and resolve acute liquidity challenges in the sector. Failure to do so would have meant pumping in billions of borrowed funds”.

He added, “This unplanned expenditure would have taken us right back to the very devastating economic problems we have only recently begun to escape.

So, while fully understanding the concerns and protests of our farmers, I can firmly assure them that the reforms announced by the government will see a total transformation of the sector and guarantee them a fair price that enables them to meet the cost of producing the commodity and make decent margins.

The difference between economic hardships and avoiding the same is the exercise of sound economic judgement, and I am determined to take decisions that ensure our collective wellbeing and avoid suffering for all our citizens.”

“Urge your big brother to come home” – Majority Chief Whip to Ofori-Atta’s brother

0

The Majority Chief Whip, Rockson-Nelson Dafeamekpor and Member of Parliament for South Dayi, has urged Duke Ofori-Atta, brother of former finance minister Ken Ofori-Atta, to encourage him to return to Ghana and submit himself to due process.

Rockson-Nelson Dafeamekpor stated, “I am pained that this matter is having an adverse impact on Duke. Because I can gauge the mood, but it is about his elder brother’s conduct. Everybody is saying come and account for your(sic). I believe that if he were here and going through the processes, nobody would mention his name. So, on this note, I want to assure him that we will not antagonise him, especially when his sensibilities are concerned. But we want to urge him to urge his big brother to come home,” he said.

Alexander Afenyo-Markin, the Minority Leader, has appealed to the Majority Caucus to desist from displaying placards bearing the image of former Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta on the floor of Parliament.

According to Afenyo-Markin, Ken Ofori-Atta has not been found guilty by any court, calling on the Majority caucus to stop displaying his images in parliament.

The minority leader highlighted concerns following strong reservations expressed by the Council of Elders of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and the family of Ofori-Atta over the conduct of some majority Members of Parliament who were seen holding up placards with his pictures during the State of the Nation Address.

Afenyo-Markin highlighted that political disagreements should not result in actions that damage the reputation of individuals who have not been found guilty, adding that such conduct will create an unhealthy precedent.

The minority leader further appealed to the Majority Chief Whip and leadership to ensure that similar incidents do not occur again.

Speaking on the floor of parliament, Afenyo-Markin stated, “No court has found him guilty. We can do our politics, but to also print his pictures deliberately, and that day the whole world’s attention was on this chamber.

I would plead through my friend, the Chief Whip, to ensure that in future any such action is curtailed, controlled or stopped by him so that this house would get the needed peace because, Mr Speaker, if we don’t stop it, a certain precedent will be set.”

In related news, the United States immigration court has denied former Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta bail.

Reports suggest that Ken Ofori-Atta’s bail, which was heard on February 19, 2026, was unsuccessful.

According to veteran journalist Alfred Ogbamey, lawyers for Ken Ofori-Atta had prayed the court to grant bail to allow him to seek medical attention.

Nevertheless, the presiding judge, David Gardey, denied the request.

Judge Gardey reportedly ruled that bail was unnecessary, arguing that Ofori-Atta has access to adequate medical care at the United States Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) facility where he is being held.

Parts of the post shared by the veteran journalist stated, “At his hearing last Thursday, lawyers for Ken Ofori-Atta argued that he should be granted bail to access proper medical care. Sources say the Judge refused the request, insisting that the former minister has access to adequate medical needs at the ICE facility”.

Also, TV3 in a post stated, “Former Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta remains in detention in the United States after a bail application in his immigration case was unsuccessful, according to sources familiar with the proceedings”.

It was a moment that revealed the depth of his kindness and readiness to help when it truly mattered.

Acts like this remind us that leadership and patriotism are often expressed through quiet generosity and service to others.

If he has made this commitment to support emergency medical care in Ghana, then it is only right that we wish him well and pray for God’s continued blessings upon him and this noble initiative.

Ghana needs more acts of compassion and national service like this”.

His remarks follow Ibrahim Mahama, who has announced that his old private jet will now serve as an emergency air ambulance for every Ghanaian.

According to Ibrahim Mahama, his old private jet is now an emergency air ambulance for every Ghanaian, not for him alone but for all Ghanaian citizens.

“Oppong Nkrumah is Constitutionally moot” — Haruna Iddrisu

0

Minister of Education, Haruna Iddrisu, has dismissed Kojo Oppong Nkrumah, the Member of Parliament (MP) for Ofoase-Ayirebi, demands for a parliamentary scrutiny of government policies.

According to Haruna Iddrisu, he has enormous respect for Kojo Oppong Nkrumah, but he is constitutionally moot and out of place.

He disclosed that the 1992 Constitution highlights that the President must present before parliament a coordinated program of action within two years, which President John Mahama has fulfilled.

Haruna Iddrisu further urged Kojo Oppong Nkrumah to seek a Supreme Court interpretation, however, adding that his case will be thrown out.

Speaking on TV3 Newday in an exclusive interview, Haruna Iddrisu stated, “You know I have enormous respect for Kojo Oppong Nkrumah, particularly that he worked with you people in the media, but he is constitutionally moot and out of place constitutionally.

Article 36 (5) imposes a burden on the President to present before parliament a coordinated program of action within two years. President Mahama has honoured that”.

He added, “I am told reliably that on the 4th of February, that particular bill was laid before parliament, so it’s much ado about nothing. I am not sure there is any constitutional issue he ought to be raising non exist. He should go to court; the Supreme Court will throw him out. They will not tolerate it”.

His comments follow, Oppong Nkrumah, who revealed that the minority is considering a move to the Supreme Court of Ghana to compel the government to present its policies and programmes to the Parliament of Ghana for scrutiny.

Speaking on TV3, Oppong Nkrumah stated, “…We are thinking of going to the Supreme Court to get the Supreme Court to make a declaration that all of those programs that they have been launching should be brought to Parliament”.

“We need to, as the people’s house, take on the task of doing proper oversight, particularly over the government policies and programs. If you read the constitution, Article 36(5), it says that when you come to power, the programs you are going to run, present them to parliament,” he noted.

He added, “Why? So that the people of Ghana will be seized with clarity on what you want to do. We can appropriate budgets for you, and we can now keep an eye on it. Are you doing this? Is this being fulfilled? Is it meeting its objectives?”

“What is happening is that the government is literally refusing to bring its policies and programs, to Parliament. You’ve heard me several times asking them to bring it. And that ask that we ask is in concordance with Article 36(5)… Once parliament doesn’t have them, you can’t even exercise oversight,” he stated.

Oppong Nkrumah further added, “Currently, the government has launched about 17 programs. We’ve been keeping track of it. It’s only one, the 24-hour economy program after we insisted over and over again that the program has now been brought to Parliament, and even that one, they brought the bill before they brought the program itself,” he indicated.

“Nkoko nkitinkiti, the program document is not before Parliament, the National Apprenticeship Program is not before Parliament, the Feed Ghana is not before Parliament. I follow it keenly, and it’s not there. And what that does is that it limits how much oversight Parliament is doing,” he concluded.

Some Ghanaians reacting to the development stated, “By telling Oppong Nkrumah to seek “judicial interpretation,” Iddrisu is daring the Minority to try and stop him through a long, drawn-out legal process, knowing they likely can’t block the policy in the House”.

Another X user added, “Haruna says go to court. Fine But, but if the Supreme Court throws out every case that challenges the government, then the only thing being thrown out is the people’s faith in the judiciary and the last I checked, oversight duties are not a crime”.

“Unlearn everything Ofori-Atta taught you” – Abena Asare, Sticka, and Dr Amin told

0

Thomas Nyarko Ampem, the Deputy Minister of Finance, has told his Abena Osei-Asare, Dr Stephen Amoah and Dr Amin Adam to unlearn everything learnt under Ghana’s former Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta.

According to the Deputy Minister of Finance, Abena Asare, Dr Stephen Amoah and Dr Amin Adam must unlearn everything Ofori-Atta taught them for their own good.

He further told the trio to come and learn under the current finance minister, Dr Cassiel Ato Forson.

Speaking on the floor of parliament, Thomas Nyarko Ampem stated, “We have recapitalised NIB, ADB, and CDB for us. Our policy is we will rather spend to save banks than spend to collapse them”.

“That is why I have been advising you, my sister Abena Asare, Sticka, and Dr Amin Adams to begin a process to unlearn everything Ken Ofori-Atta taught you and come and learn under the maverick Dr Ato Forson in your own interest”.

In related news, Minority Spokesperson on Parliament’s Economy and Development Committee, Kojo Oppong Nkrumah, has said the minority is considering a move to the Supreme Court of Ghana to compel the government to present its policies and programmes to the Parliament of Ghana for scrutiny.

Speaking on TV3 on February 22, 2026, Kojo Oppong Nkrumah stated, “…We are thinking of going to the Supreme Court to get the Supreme Court to make a declaration that all of those programs that they have been launching should be brought to Parliament”.

NDC was birthed through blood and chaos don’t dare us  – Afenyo-Markin warned

0

Hajia Charity Asoema, the Deputy Director General of NADMO Stores, has issued a stern warning to the Minority Leader of Parliament, Alexander Afenyo-Markin.

According to Hajia Charity Asoema, the NDC was birthed through blood and chaos, warning the minority leader not to dare members of the NDC.

Her remarks follow Alexander Afenyo-Markin’s recent attacks on President John Dramani Mahama’s government.

Speaking in an interview on TV XYZ on March 2, 2026, Hajia Charity Asoema stated, “We in the NDC were birthed through blood; we are the definition of chaos, so if they want chaos, we are experts. They learned those tactics from us. Even Afenyo-Markin, if they leave the two of us together, I will defeat him hands down…so they should desist from such attacks on the government, else they will hear from us”.

“Afenyo-Markin should stop criticising President Mahama and focus on his duties. When they were in power, they did nothing for us. The National Cathedral project is still at the same place, and their chaotic behaviour must stop. When it comes to chaos, the NDC is experienced, and we can match them until they go into hiding,” she stated.

In related news, Alexander Kwamena Afenyo-Markin, the Minority Leader and Member of Parliament for Effutu, has demanded a public hearing over his Trybe Net allegation after he was referred to the Privileges Committee of Parliament.

According to Afenyo-Markin, he is ready to appear before the Privileges Committee to present evidence of his allegations.

The minority leader demanded that the Privileges Committee of Parliament hearing on the matter be made public in the full glare of the public.

He stated, “Honourable Minister of Interior, I am not too sure you want us to pursue this matter. I repeat, because you and I know what we know. Let the referral be made, let there be a public hearing. Let Afenyo-Markin, who these days is seen as perhaps, according to the allegation, saying something untruthful, and because of that, it is a breach of parliamentary privilege. Mr Speaker, you have the wisdom to exercise discretion.

“I will avail myself, should you exercise that discretion, to a public hearing, and then the matter can be brought to a peaceful rest”, he added.

The minority has been referred to the Privileges Committee of Parliament following his allegations of corruption in recruitment into the security services, implicating a senior government official.

On Tuesday, March 3, 2026, during parliament sitting, Muntaka Mohammed-Mubarak, the Minister of the Interior, demanded Speaker of Parliament refer Afenyo-Markin to the Privileges Committee to substantiate his allegations.

Muntaka Mohammed-Mubarak stated, “Mr Speaker, if you recollect, you were in the chair on Thursday when he started this allegation. I took the opportunity on the floor to correct him and show him, and even encourage him, that if he wanted information, he could write and I would furnish him with all the details.

“He decided to take advantage of the State of the Nation Address on Friday, when the whole world was listening to us, to say categorically that the current internal security recruitment is scandalous. There’s corruption looming. People will go to prison. He said it on this floor,” he stated.

Muntaka Mohammed-Mubarak added, “And I’m saying that, Mr Speaker, based on our Standing Order 31 (E and F), that is contentious. And I’m saying that let’s give him the opportunity to go to Privileges, where you have all the ample time and opportunity to provide all his allegations so that we meet him there with our facts.

“So, Mr Speaker, that is why I am referring to the fact that we are having too many of such comments coming from somebody like the Minority Leader, and the time for him to prove his allegation is here, and the best place to do that, Mr Speaker, is at Privileges,” he said.

Bernard Ahiafor, the first  Deputy Speaker of Parliament, referred the Minority Leader to the privileges committee following a complaint by the Interior Minister.

Meanwhile, Alexander Afenyo-Markin has retracted and apologised to the Minister for the Interior, Mohammed Mubarak Muntaka, over allegations of fraud he made on the ongoing security service recruitment process.

During parliamentary proceedings on Wednesday, March 4, Afenyo-Markin formally withdrew the comments and expressed regret over the matter.

According to him, he did not do that to hurt or to tarnish the reputation of Mohammed Mubarak Muntaka.

Afenyo-Markin stated, “Mr Speaker, I will not do that to hurt him or tarnish his reputation, and if the text of my concern reflected so, it is hereby accordingly withdrawn. I assure you that concerns that will arise out of any matter shall be properly brought to his attention”.

No court has found Ofori-Atta guilty, stop displaying his images in parliament – Afenyo-Markin

0

1,345 out of 2,949 road fatalities in 2025 caused by Okada crashes – NRSA

0

The National Road Safety Authority (NRSA) has confirmed frightening statistics concerning Ghana’s road fatalities in 2025.

According to the NRSA, out of the 2,949 road traffic fatalities recorded in Ghana in 2025, a total of 1,345 were caused by motorcycle (Okada) crashes.

The National Road Safety Authority (NRSA) is quoted by TV3 to have said, “Okada crashes account for 1,345 of Ghana’s 2,949 road fatalities in 2025”.

Earlier, the National Road Safety Authority (NRSA) announced that Road traffic crashes in Ghana claimed 2,949 lives in 2025.

According to the NRSA, the 2025 road crashes death is worrying rise compared to the previous year.

The NRSA detailed that between January and December 2025, the country recorded 14,743 crashes, up from 13,489 cases in 2024, representing a 9.3 per cent increase.

They highlighted that the growth in crashes was matched by a rise in vehicle involvement, with 24,938 vehicles implicated during the year, compared to 22,975 vehicles in 2024, an 8.5 per cent jump.

According to them, the most troubling trend, however, was the spike in fatalities, adding that Deaths from road crashes climbed from 2,494 in 2024 to 2,949 in 2025, meaning 455 additional lives were lost within a year.

Some Ghanaians reacting to the National Road Safety Authority (NRSA) statistics stated, “Every day road accidents, statistics tell us what your organisation will do to stop this. Innocent people are involved. Especially  Accra to Kumasi Road”.

A netizen added, “So what should we do about this bruh? You are the government creat proper jobs for the youth, cos we got no choice to hustle……We got to feed ourselves and families as well. Do something now”.

Another X user with a long comment added, “We live in a country 🇬🇭 where our population has increased, and the vehicles our nation needs must be big and strong, not small Okados that try to move too fast, forgetting how many of us are on the roads.

No one truly knows what lies ahead, even for a single second. I pray that Jesus Christ blesses our leaders with discernment and understanding, so they may lead His people, whom He truly loves and cares for”.

His comment further added, “If everyone tries to buy their own vehicles without thought, accidents will increase, and many lives will be lost. This is exactly what our fallen ancestors wanted – to increase their power while bringing harm to the living. Humans need wisdom to see and prepare for the unseen, to reduce the death toll.

The same land we live on will be used to bury the dead, and over time, cemeteries will expand, taking land meant for the living and creating famines that will kill many in future generations”.

“The actions we take today will bring harm to our children and grandchildren, and they may one day speak evil of this generation when it is too late for them to change what we have allowed.

Jesus Christ’s teachings will save us by faith – believing in the unseen to preserve lives and to be prepared – for our actions bring the worst ahead of time 🕰️ – there’s time for everything we do and a day the thief gets caught…”.

“There’s very little money for people to spend” – Oppong Nkrumah on Ghana’s recent inflation drop

0

Kojo Oppong Nkrumah, the Member of Parliament (MP) for Ofoase-Ayirebi and Ranking Member of Parliament’s Economy and Development Committee, has said Ghana’s recent decline in inflation may be short-lived.

According to Oppong Nkrumah, there’s very little money for people to spend, which has led to many goods remaining unsold simply because buyers cannot afford them.

Oppong Nkrumah stressed that if the government fails to address rising production costs, particularly electricity tariffs, Ghana’s decline in inflation could prove temporary.

He highlighted that the recent inflation figures are not due to stronger productivity or lower business costs, noting that it is due to tight monetary policies by the Bank of Ghana (BoG).

Oppong Nkrumah noted that the central bank’s aggressive liquidity controls have weakened Ghanaian consumers’ purchasing power.

Speaking to Joy News, Oppong Nkrumah stated, “So there’s very little money for people to spend”.

Oppong Nkrumah further added that the method being used should be disclosed and interrogated.

He welcomed the drop in Ghana’s inflation but warned that it may not reflect genuine economic stability, highlighting that inflation is driven not only by demand but also by the cost of production.

His comments follow, Ghana’s inflation has declined for the 14th straight month, with the February rate falling to 3.3 per cent.

The 3.3 per cent inflation drop marks Ghana’s lowest inflation rate since 2021.

According to the latest Consumer Price Index (CPI) data released by the Ghana Statistical Service (GSS), February 2026 inflation now stands at 3.3 per cent from 3.8 per cent in January 2026.

“The CPI for February 2026 stood at 264.4, up from 255.9 in February 2025, translating into a year-on-year inflation rate of 3.3 per cent. On a month-on-month basis, inflation was 0.8 per cent, indicating that the general price level increased by 0.8 per cent between January and February 2026”.

“A breakdown of the data shows a significant easing in food inflation, while non-food inflation edged up slightly. Food inflation (including non-alcoholic beverages), which carries a weight of 42.7 per cent in the CPI basket, slowed to 2.4 per cent in February 2026 from 3.9 per cent in January 2026 — a 1.5 percentage point decline,” the report by Citinews stated.

Meanwhile, Minority Leader Alexander Afenyo-Markin has quizzed the John Mahama government whether Ghanaians are going to eat inflation.

Afenyo-Markin highlighted that what is inflation on paper when it has no effect on the pocket of the ordinary Ghanaian.

TikToker Duabo King, known as Isaac Boafo, has been remanded by the Kwadaso–Edwinaase Circuit Court.

In court, prosecutors argue that the publication created public alarm, leading to his arrest and subsequent arraignment before the court.

According to the TikToker Lawyer Kofi Boapong, he explained that the court declined bail because his client did not admit to the charges.

The lawyer further argued that the individuals mentioned in the TikTok video are not police officers, stressing that his client is not guilty of the allegations.

He further detailed that the case was adjourned to March 10, 2026, with the prosecution expected to present evidence to substantiate the charges.

It will be recalled that the Ghana Police Service have arrested TikToker Isaac Boafo, 45, popularly known as “Duabo King,” for allegedly publishing false news.

TikToker Duabo King has been accused of claiming that four officers stationed at the Central Police Station in Kumasi engaged in inappropriate conduct with commercial sex workers during night patrol duties at Asafo in Kumasi.

TikToker Duabo King was picked up by the Ashanti Regional Police Command after a viral TikTok video in which he accused four officers in Kumasi of engaging in inappropriate conduct with sex workers on night patrol.

He further admitted that he could not substantiate the claims made against the officers.

The suspect also acknowledged making comments concerning the President of the Republic for the purpose of content creation and admitted that he could not defend those statements.

He has since been formally charged and detained to assist with further investigations.

The Police wish to caution the public against the publication and circulation of false information xarticularly on social media, as such acts have the potential to cause unnecessary fear, panic, and reputational damage. How Ghana almost became a World Superpower

0

Historian Yaw Anokye Frimpong and a lawyer have shared how Ghana almost became a World Superpower under Osagyefo Dr Kwame Nkrumah.

The historian lamented that Ghana would have become a World Superpower if Kwame Nkrumah had not overthrown as President.

According to Yaw Anokye Frimpong, Kwame Nkrumah was going to build an atomic bomb, which is known today as a nuclear bomb.

The Historian revealed that the United Nations (UN), under the Atom for Food, authorised Kwame Nkrumah to build the Nuclear bomb.

The Historian further fired shots at Ghana’s Democratic leaders after Kwame Nkrumah.

Yaw Anokye Frimpong, “Those who wanted Democracy after Kwame Nkrumah, who was able to build a University like Legon, KNUST or Cape Coast? Who has been able to build a Hospital like the Okomfo Anokye Teaching Hospital, and for Korle Bu, it was just one building before Nkrumah, and he made it the second biggest Hospital in Africa.

I will take out Mahama, who has built the University of Ghana Medical Centre and the Airport; he has done very well. What did the rest do?”.

In related news, Kwesi Pratt Jnr, a Veteran journalist and Managing Editor of the Insight newspaper, has said that claims that General Emmanuel Kwasi Kotoka staged the February 24, 1966, coup against Kwame Nkrumah are completely falsifying history.

For what purpose? So the government appears bad, and your incompetent party looks good?

So the one behind Trybe Net, the one who introduced Trybe Net to the Ministry, who is chopping money. We are happy you are showing pictures. Very soon we will bring her picture. The one in charge of Trybe Net duping innocent Ghanaians, duping the unemployed youths, there are many youths who are looking for jobs, and this Trybe Net with connivance with an appointee of the government she will be exposed, so you continue with Ken Ofori-Atta. Completely exaggerated, Bawumia was not evacuated –  Miracles Aboagye

0

Dennis Miracles Aboagye, an aide to former Vice President and NPP flagbearer Mahamudu Bawumia, has refuted claims that his boss was evacuated from Qatar amid escalating tensions in the Middle East.

According to him, the claims are a complete misrepresentation, adding that the word evacuation suggests Bawumia was under some kind of distress, at risk, or under some kind of threat.

Miracles Aboagye highlighted that Dr Bawumia’s travel arrangements were routine diplomatic courtesies and not an emergency response.

He disclosed that Dr Bawumia had travelled to perform Umrah in Mecca, Saudi Arabia, transiting through Doha, Qatar, adding that the Ghana embassy in Qatar facilitated Dr Bawumia’s onward journey to Saudi Arabia.

According to Miracles Aboagye, Dr Bawumia travelled by road from Qatar to Saudi Arabia on Wednesday morning and is now performing his Umrah.

Speaking to Citi News on Wednesday, March 4, Miracles Aboagye stated, “First of all, he has not been evacuated. We should put that on record. Evacuation suggests he was under some kind of distress, at risk, or under some kind of threat. That is complete misinformation,” he stated.

“There is nothing like an evacuation. It is completely exaggerated,” he added.

His comments follows, reports suggest the government of Ghana, through the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, has quietly arranged the relocation of former Vice-President and New Patriotic Party (NPP) flagbearer for Election 2028, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, and his wife, Samira Bawumia.

The evacuation was carried out under orders from Ghana’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs to protect them and their team amid growing security concerns in the region.

Sources claim Minister for Foreign Affairs, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, took this measure as part of measures to safeguard the former Vice-President and his entourage.

The information gathered suggests the Foreign Affairs Minister directed Ghanaian diplomatic missions in the region to prioritise the security of Dr Bawumia and his wife.

In related news, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa has disclosed that no Ghanaian has been killed or injured in the Middle East crisis.

On Tuesday, March 3, 2026, in a statement issued by Ablakwa, he disclosed that he had convened a virtual meeting with Ghana’s Ambassadors and Consuls General in the Middle East.

He detailed that the virtual meeting was explore additional consular interventions towards the protection of Ghanaians.

The Foreign Affairs Minister in his post wrote, “This evening, I convened a virtual meeting with our Ambassadors and Consuls General in the Middle East to assess the latest developments and explore additional consular interventions towards the protection of Ghanaians.

The Heads of Mission for Israel, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Kuwait, UAE, Iran and Turkey participated in the virtual meeting.

I am glad to report that so far, no Ghanaian has been killed or injured.

We have put together a reliable database of all Ghanaians in these countries, including those who were on short visits and those who were transiting.

All missions have been tasked to identify Ghanaians within their jurisdictions who wish to be evacuated for the urgent consideration of government.

Meanwhile, our diplomatic missions are currently assisting a considerable number of Ghanaians escape across certain strategic border crossings.

The safety and welfare of all Ghanaians remain our utmost priority”.

In related news, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, the Foreign Affairs Minister, has announced that all Ghanaian embassy staff from Iran have been successfully evacuated following the security concerns.

In a post on X on Monday, March 2, 2026, Mr Ablakwa disclosed, “I am delighted to announce that we have conducted a successful evacuation of all our embassy staff in Iran.

The Ghanaian diplomats are safe and in high spirits.

Ghana’s embassy in Iran is now closed sine die.

The safety, welfare and protection of Ghanaians remains our utmost priority in these tempestuous times.

For God and Country”.

Ghana’s decision follows the United States and Israel, which on February 28, 2026, launched coordinated military strikes against Iran.

The joint operation targeted Iranian military infrastructure, leadership compounds, and strategic sites.

Iran has reportedly launched retaliatory attacks on multiple American bases, including a Naval Base in Bahrain and Abu Dhabi.

“Who am I to say that I’m going to play God?” – Muntaka on Afenyo-Markin’s apology

0

Muntaka Mohammed-Mubarak, the Minister of the Interior, has accepted the apology of the Minority Leader, Alexander Kwamena Afenyo-Markin.

The Interior Minister, accepting the apology, described the allegations as deeply distressing, particularly given their gravity.

According to Muntaka Mohammed-Mubarak, he is no one to say he is going to play and not to accept the apology.

Speaking on the floor of parliament, Muntaka Mohammed-Mubarak stated, “It is painful to be wrongly accused or your actions to be misconstrued and be labelled differently from the intention that you have, especially when it’s collated with criminality and heavy wrongdoing.

But Mr Speaker, I’ve had a great privilege of serving in leadership in this House, probably with greater respect and with all humility to my colleagues, with those of us sitting in the chamber now. I have served in leadership longer than anybody, and I will be the last to thwart the effort of leadership in trying to help run this House.

“Except to say that colleagues remember most of the time I keep saying, ‘please, let’s respect each other’. I will be the first to always say that ‘fight for the right thing to be done, make sure that wrong things are not done’. But let’s not do it as though we intend to destroy each other. I am heavily hurt and heavily worried.”

He added, “If a colleague errs, using the same spot or the same microphone in the same chamber now comes back to say he has withdrawn and is apologising, who am I to say that I’m going to play God and I will not accept it? I accept it wholeheartedly.”

His remarks follow an earlier apology from Afenyo-Markin, the Minority Leader, who has retracted and apologised to the Minister for the Interior, Mohammed Mubarak Muntaka, over allegations of fraud he made on the ongoing security service recruitment process.

The minority leader’s apology follows the First Deputy Speaker of Parliament, Bernard Ahiafor, who referred the issue to the Privileges Committee over contempt charges.

Barely 24 hours ago, Alexander Kwamena Afenyo-Markin demanded a public hearing over his Trybe Net allegation after he was referred to the Privileges Committee of Parliament.

According to Afenyo-Markin, he is ready to appear before the Privileges Committee to present evidence of his allegations.

The minority leader demanded that the Privileges Committee of Parliament hearing on the matter be made in the full glare of the public.

Speaking on the floor of Parliament, Afenyo-Markin stated, “Honourable Minister of Interior, I am not too sure you want us to pursue this matter.

The minority was referred to the Privileges Committee of Parliament following his allegations of corruption in recruitment into the security services, implicating a senior government official.

The minority leader further alleged that Trybe Net, in connivance with an appointee of the government and she will be exposed.

Afenyo-Markin stated, “Mr Speaker, I will not do that to hurt him or tarnish his reputation, and if the text of my concern reflected so, it is hereby accordingly withdrawn. I assure you that concerns that will arise out of any matter shall be properly brought to his attention”.

The minority was referred to the Privileges Committee of Parliament following his allegations of corruption in recruitment into the security services, implicating a senior government official.

Background

It will be recalled that Alexander Afenyo-Markin duirng the SONA, alleged that there is a scandal looming in security services recruitment.

Alexander Afenyo-Markin alleged that Trybe Net, which has been tasked by the Interior Ministry with the online security services recruitment, is duping innocent Ghanaians and unemployed youths.

According to Afenyo-Markin, the minority will pursue the person and make sure there is full disclosure.

The minority leader further alleged that Trybe Net, in connivance with an appointee of the government and she will be exposed.

Speaking in response to the 2026 State of the Nation Address, Afenyo-Markin stated, “We are happy they are showing a picture trying to embarrass the former finance minister, Ken Ofori-Atta. Very soon, a senior appointee who is in charge of Trybenet will go to jail

So and very soon it will be your turn”.

“As we speak, there is a scandal looming in security services recruitment, Trybe Net. We know who brought that company to the Ministry. Karma has a way, and the Minority will pursue the person and make sure there is full disclosure”, he added.

The joint operation targeted Iranian military infrastructure, leadership compounds, and strategic sites.

“Volta Regional Hospital a death trap despite its elevation” – Togbega Gabusu VII

0

Togbega Gabusu VII, the Paramount Chief of the Gbi Traditional Area, has labelled the Volta Regional Hospital in Hohoe a “death trap”.

According to Togbega Gabusu VII, despite the Volta Regional Hospital’s elevation from a municipal to a regional hospital, the facility lacks improved infrastructure, logistics, and medical equipment.

The Paramount Chief of the Gbi Traditional Area demanded urgent government intervention to overhaul the Volta Regional Hospital in Hohoe.

He stressed that the upgrade in status has not been matched by the facility that the Hospital needs.

Togbega Gabusu VII highlighted that although the facility now serves as a regional referral centre, several critical departments continue to operate with obsolete equipment.

He detailed the congested wards and overstretched facilities endanger both patients and health workers, adding that the hospital’s infrastructure remains unchanged from its days as a municipal hospital.

The Paramount Chief of the Gbi Traditional Area highlighted that the government’s failure to address the situation promptly could further weaken healthcare delivery, calling on the government to prioritize the provision of modern medical equipment, expansion and overall infrastructure improvement.

“I know the authorities are listening to us and they will act as a matter of urgency to save lives,” he added.

Also, Divine Akie, the Administrator of the Volta Regional Hospital, has disclosed that the hospital operates without a dedicated surgical ward and an Intensive Care Unit (ICU).

He also appealed for immediate support to equip the hospital and the necessary infrastructure and modern medical equipment.

Divine Akie stated, “As a regional hospital, it is far behind compared to other established regional hospitals, talking about infrastructure, equipment and human resources”.

Meanwhile, President John Dramani Mahama has revealed plans to increase capacity at the Ridge Hospital by implementing phase two of the project.

Speaking to the nation on Friday, February 27, President Mahama stated, “In the meantime governnment will expand capacity by implementing the Ridge Hospital phase two project to increase the number of beds at the Greater Accra Regional Hospital. We will also continue and complete the police hospital, and also continue and complete the La General Hospital”.

Also, President John Dramani Mahama has told Ghana healthcare workers they do not need to have a comfortable bed to save a patient.

Mahama warned all health facilities against turning away patients who report to their facility for emergency treatment.

According to John Mahama, every Ghanaian who seeks medical attention must be attended to expalining that health workers do not need to have a comfortable bed to save a patient.

Mahama added, “This year, the government will fully roll out a free primary healthcare programme, removing all cost barriers at the primary level where it is mostly needed, while strengthening prevention, screening, and health promotion, especially for non-communicable diseases”.

“Mr Speaker, the Ministry of Health is expected to issue guidelines to eliminate the unacceptable no-bed syndrome. Patients facing medical emergencies must be received and given help, if even under makeshift conditions. You don’t need to have a comfortable bed to save a patient”.

Mahama boldly warned, “No patient must be turned away from any health facility they report to”.

Gov’t to procure 400 Ambulances, 500 medical motorbikes – CEO of Ambulance Service

0

Chief Executive Officer of the National Ambulance Service, Dr George Kojo Owusu, has announced that 400 new ambulances and 500 medical motorbikes will be procured.

According to the CEO, processes are underway to procure 400 new ambulances and 500 medical motorbikes to improve service delivery.

He further highlighted that the ambulances will come in various categories which includes, “pediatric ambulances, basic life support ambulances, advanced life support ambulances, critical care ambulances, and ICU ambulances, among others”.

The CEO further explained that the motorbikes will help personnel navigate traffic during emergencies.

Dr George Kojo Owusu disclosed that procurement processes have been initiated to acquire the fleet, but a specific timeline cannot be provided.

Speaking at a press conference on Monday, March 2, the Chief Executive Officer of the National Ambulance Service, Dr George Kojo Owusu, explained, “As we speak, we are at the decision process, and procurement of that magnitude of ambulances takes time and involves a lot of negotiations, so timelines cannot be given now. When we get the timelines, we will make them available to you”.

In related news, Professor Titus Beyuo, Board Chairman of Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital and Member of Parliament for Lambussie, has called for the review of the Ambulance Service Act.

The MP argued that the current scoop and run needs to be changed for paramedics to be able to provide basic health care needs in transit.

According to Prof Beyuo, paramedics in Ghana will be able to save many lives if they can run a simple IV line to give patients fluid during transit.

Speaking on the floor of parliament, Professor Titus Beyuo stated, “ I will conclude by saying our Ambulance Service, by its act and by its function, may need to be reviewed. Currently, they do scoop and run. What it means is that at an accident scene, they can pick you up, but they cannot even set a simple IV line to give you fluid, this patient who was being moved from Hospital to Hospital if a simple saline was running, this patient could have survived.

The minority leader mentioned his BP at the beginning of Korle Bu when they checked the BP in the ambulance monitor, and it had come down to 84 56, which is someone who is just about dying. So if they could at least set a line and run some fluid in transit, a lot patient will survive. The model that only allows them to scope and run must be changed, and their training must be upgraded so that we have some paramedics who can provide some basic care”.

He further appealed to Health workers to change their attitude, saying, “Attitude is our biggest problem; all of this will not change if the attitude does not change. I am standing on this to appeal to my colleague Health workers, look at that next patients it could be you, it could be your father or your mother. It does not have to be another doctor calling you before you create a bed and accept the patient”.

Also, Professor Titus Beyuo has announced that the Health Minister is working on a National Integrated Bed Management and Referral System that will tell the categories of beds that are available in a particular hospital in real time.

Mahama never said ORAL has recovered GH¢600 million – Kwakye Ofosu clarifies

0

Minister for Government Communications, Felix Kwakye Ofosu, has dismissed claims suggesting that President John Mahama stated that the ¢600 million recovered by EOCO was in respect of ORAL.

Felix Kwakye Ofosu detailed that Mahama never referred to ORAL in respect of the GH¢600 million recovery, describing the claims as inaccurate.

Speaking on the floor of parliament, Felix Kwakye Ofosu stated, “It has also been claimed that the President said that EOCO has recovered 600 million Ghana Cedis from Operation Recover All Loots. Mr Speaker, that is not accurate. The President never made reference to ORAL in respect of the GH¢600 million Ghana Cedis,” he insisted”.

He further added that a total of GHC1.5bn in assets has been frozen as ORAL investigations continue.

Kwakye Ofosu added, “…Mr Speaker, I can report to you that 1.5 billion Ghana cedis in assets have been frozen by people undergoing investigations and those before court, and they include those who are involved in the 280 ORAL cases that are currently being looked into,” he said.

“Mr Speaker, in respect of ORAL, unless and until persons who are under investigation or are before the court have been convicted, you cannot recover anything from them. The most that can be done is that their assets can be frozen,” he explained.

Meanwhile, President John Dramani Mahama has announced that the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) has recovered more than GH₵600 million in stolen public funds.

Delivering his 2026 State of the Nation Address on Friday, February 27, President John Mahama detailed, “As of December 2025, EOCO had recovered more than GHS 600 million.

The Office has investigated 462 cases, with 15 currently under prosecution, and dismantled transnational car-jacking syndicates, recovering 29 luxury vehicles”.

President Mahama further stressed that his government remains resolute in the quest to recover stolen public resources.

Mahama detailed that he understands that the majority of Ghanaians are impatient about the NDC government ORAL but argued that painstaking investigations must be conducted, dockets must be prepared.

Mahama added, “Mr Speaker, the Government remains resolute that corruption will not be tolerated, regardless of status or political affiliation. The Attorney General’s Office will continue to use both criminal prosecution and non-conviction-based asset recovery mechanisms to ensure that stolen public resources are returned for national development.

I understand that a large majority of Ghanaians are impatient to see those who abused their trust in office held to account.

There were periods when, under military regimes and unconstitutional governments, extrajudicial means could be used to exact retribution against persons perceived as corrupt or who had abused the public trust”.

He added, “This may have appeared as swift justice, but many regrettable excesses were recorded. In 1992, we overwhelmingly adopted the 1992 constitution to accept governance by the rule of law.

On 7th January 2025, I swore before the people of Ghana to uphold the 1992 Constitution. I may be as impatient as everyone else to see justice done, but painstaking investigations must be conducted, dockets must be prepared, charges must be filed, and the accused must have their day in court, including appealing even the smallest points of law to higher courts.

This process is necessary to protect us all against abuse or ill-treatment of citizens and to ensure that only those guilty of offences against the state are punished”.

Mamprobi ‘baby thief’ granted GH₵200,000 bail with two sureties

0

Latifa Salifu, a 33-year-old ‘baby thief’ who was arrested in connection with the baby theft at the Mamprobi polyclinic, have been granted GH₵200,000 bail with two sureties.

The accused was granted bail of GH¢200,000 by the DOVVSU Circuit Court, which granted her temporary release following her court appearance today, March 4, 2026.

Her two sureties, one of whom must justify with landed property valued at GH¢150,000.

She is also required to deposit her Ghana Card with the Court Registry and surrender all her travel documents.

Latifa Salifu will also report to the case investigator every Monday and Thursday at 1:00 p.m.

In court, the accused pleaded not guilty to one count of child stealing.

Chief Inspector Opoku Aniagyei, in court, presented an amended charge sheet and told the court that the investigation was completed.

Latifa Salifu’s counsel applied for bail, and the prosecution did not oppose the application but urged the court to impose strict conditions.

In her earlier court appearance, Latifa Salifu was remanded in connection with the baby theft at the Mamprobi polyclinic and has been remanded for 14 days.

The development follows the suspect being arrested for allegedly stealing a newborn baby at the Mamprobi Polyclinic.

Reports suggest the baby was later rescued and reunited with the mother at the Dansoman Police Station today February, 18, 2026.

In a viral video shared by EDHUB, the woman was seen in custody at the Police station, and some irate residents were also seen at the Police station.

In a separate video, a resident at the Dansoman Police Station has revealed that the suspect was tracked down through her own sister.

Sources alleged that the suspect called her sister, claiming she had given birth and invited her over.

However, the sister, aware of reports about a missing baby, recognised the infant as the one allegedly stolen from the Mamprobi Polyclinic and alerted authorities, leading to the suspect’s arrest.

The arrest follows news of irate residents storming the Mamprobi Polyclinic over an alleged baby theft.

The Police have confirmed that the baby thief is in custody and assisting with investigations.

Meanwhile, Kwabena Mintah Akandoh, the Minister of Health, has ordered all health facilities to strictly remove the name tags of mother and baby only at the security gate.

Speaking during a working visit to the Mamprobi Polyclinic, he stressed that name tags should only be removed at the security exit, not at the ward level.

The Health Minister further stressed that health facilities are to strictly enforce identification protocols for patients and staff.

Kwabena Mintah Akandoh stated, “Apart from the tagging, which is part of the clear protocols for patient and baby identification, name tags should not be taken off at the ward level. Name tags of both the mother and the baby should only be removed at the security gate, which is the exit. This is one of the ways we can avoid incidents of baby swaps,” he explained.

The Minister also urged health facilities to establish closer working relationships with nearby police stations to strengthen security and ensure quick responses to any suspicious activity.

Mahama’s UN speech inspired me to visit Ghana – Prime Minister of St. Kitts and Nevis

0

The Prime Minister of St. Kitts and Nevis, Dr Terrance Michael Drew, has revealed that President John Dramani Mahama’s speech at the 2025 United Nations General Assembly inspired his visit to Ghana.

According to the Prime Minister of St. Kitts and Nevis, there are so many speeches that were read at the UN last year, but President Mahama’s speech played a key role in his decision to seek closer engagement with Ghana.

Speaking during his official visit to Ghana, Dr Terrance Michael Drew to President Mahama, he stated, “One of the things that really stood out to me was your speech at the last UN General Assembly. There were many speeches, but yours inspired me. I told my team that I wanted to meet you, and today you have welcomed me back home.”

“As I arrived in Ghana and was driving along the streets, I could not tell the difference whether I was at home or in a foreign country,” Dr. Drew said.

“We come not only as partners in diplomacy but as family. We are reconnecting across the Atlantic. St. Kitts and Nevis and Ghana share more than diplomatic ties,” he noted.

Also, President Mahama, in his statement, highlighted the deep historical bond linking the two nations.

Mahama stated, “Our two nations are bound by a shared history and heritage,” the President said. “While the transatlantic slave trade may have separated us, the resilience of our ancestors and the courage of our global African family continue to shape our common destiny.”

“We will also explore other areas of mutual interest within the framework of South-South cooperation and strengthen people-to-people exchanges,” President Mahama added.

Read President Mahama’s addressed world leaders at the United Nations General Assembly in New York below:

“Mr Secretary-General, Excellencies,

Ladies and Gentlemen:

At this 80th session of the United Nations General Assembly, I would like to speak about Africa’s role in the future of the organisation. However, it is impossible to do that without first considering the collective role that Africa played in its founding, which was small and relatively insignificant.

Of the 51 Member States involved in the founding of the United Nations in 1945, only four were African: Egypt, Ethiopia, Liberia, and South Africa.

It is important to point out that the United Nations came into being in the aftermath of World War 2 because of the inability of its precursor, the League of Nations, to avert a large-scale global conflict, which had been its guiding purpose when it was founded in 1920 on the heels of World War 1.

Out of the 42 founding member states of the League of Nations, only three were African: Liberia, the Union of South Africa, and Ethiopia. Egypt joined later in 1937. Africa’s overall participation in the organisation’s founding was minimal and relatively unimportant.

That’s because, before all the other talks and meetings, representatives from a group of 14 nations gathered in Berlin for a series of discussions that began in 1884, which led to the partition and formal colonisation of the continent—also called the Scramble for Africa.

It has famously been written that “past is prologue.” Well, in the past, the majority of the 54 nations that now comprise Africa were never offered a seat at the table where plans for a new World Order were being drawn.

But, Madam President,

As fate would have it, the tables have turned, and Africa’s role in the authorship of whatever is yet to come for this world will be huge, and it will be consequential.

According to this organisation’s own projections, by the year 2050, more than 25% of the world’s population is expected to come from the African continent. Additionally, by 2050, one- third of all young people, aged 15 to 24, will be residing on the African continent.

So, you see, the future is African.

Allow me to say this once again, a little louder for the people in the back. The future is African!

Already today, Africa is a catalyst for human potential and development, as well as for economic reform and ecological stability. Africa is a catalyst for systemic change. If this reality—which is fact-based and straightforward—seems provocative or unsettling, perhaps it’s because you’re viewing it through the lens of centuries of racism, colonialism, imperialism, and the resulting implicit bias.

Maybe you’re unaware of the resilience of African nations or their remarkable ability to make a strong comeback, just when you think it’s safe to discount them.

That’s what is happening right now in Ghana. Our Constitution limits leaders to two four-year terms. In January, I was sworn in for a second term, which, I should add, is non-consecutive with the first. Our currency, the Ghana cedi, was rapidly depreciating.

Faced with rising inflation, a huge debt burden, and low morale amongst our citizens, my new administration quickly embarked on an ambitious programme of comprehensive transformation designed to restructure Ghana’s economic foundation and enhance our competitive standing globally. We refer to this process of recalibration as our reset agenda.

In just eight months, we have achieved a significant reduction in inflation, from 23.8% in December 2024 to 11.5% in August 2025, restoring price stability for our citizens. Additionally, the Ghana cedi has appreciated considerably against other currencies, with Bloomberg reporting it as the best-performing currency in the world at one point.

Our improved sovereign credit rating reflects increasing investor confidence. Our 24-Hour Economy Initiative promises to transform our economy. There is a renewed willingness among the people to trust that their elected officials have Ghana’s interests at heart and that we are progressing together.

Madam President,

I believe that, in honour of this milestone celebration, the United Nations should also embark on a process of serious recalibration and establish its own reset agenda. Since the organisation’s founding, the number of UN Member Nations has nearly quadrupled. And, quite frankly, it is not the same world that it was back then.

I mentioned earlier that I began my second non-consecutive term as president this past January. My first term ended in January 2017. In that span of time, the world had changed with such ferocity, my first days in office felt as though I’d just awakened from a Rip Van Winkle-style slumber. That was after only eight years; imagine, then, what it would be like after eighty years.

In 1945, the sun had not yet set on the largest empire in history; the most common mode of international travel was by sea; the personal computer had not been invented, let alone made portable; and television, a new convenience, was still in its infancy, albeit in black and white.

Relations between the US and the Soviet Union were turning frosty, with Winston Churchill declaring that “an iron curtain has descended across the Continent.”

Eighty years on, in today’s world, 100,000 commercial flights take off and land every day; libraries have been digitised so that volumes of literature can exist on a device small enough to fit inside your pocket. This is a world of cryptocurrency, Artificial Intelligence, social media, the Internet, and its dark, hidden dungeon —the dark web—all of which carry a potential threat to global peace and security.

Climate change is real, and we are fighting a losing battle against the loss of the Maldives and other island nations to the rising sea level, Timbuktu to desertification, and the Amazon Rainforest to global warming and deforestation.

Madam President,

The UN founding charter is outdated when it comes to representation. The most powerful post- World War 2 nations are still being rewarded with an almost totalitarian guardianship over the rest of the world. And yet, the first sentence in Chapter 2, Article 1 of the UN charter declares that “The Organisation is based on the principle of the sovereign equality of all its members.”

If this were truly the case, a continent as large as Africa with its numerous UN Member states would have at least one permanent seat on the Security Council. Furthermore, veto power should not be restricted to five nations, nor should it be absolute.

There must be a mechanism for the General Assembly to challenge a veto. No single nation should be able to exercise an absolute veto to serve its own interests in a conflict.

In 1995, during the 50th anniversary of the United Nations, Nelson Mandela stood in this very spot. He said, “The United Nations has to reassess its role, redefine its profile, and reshape its structures. It should truly reflect the diversity of our universe and ensure equity among the nations in the exercise of power within the system of international relations. In general, and the Security Council in particular.”

Thirty years later, we African leaders are still making the same request: for a permanent seat on the Security Council, with the power of veto. So, today, Madam President, I stand here in this exact spot, asking: if not now, then when?

We demand not only a reform of the Security Council, but also a reset of the global financial architecture, which is currently rigged against Africa. Africa must have a greater say in the world’s multilateral financial institutions.

While I am making requests, I would like to call for the removal of the blockade on Cuba. As Dr Kwame Nkrumah, our nation’s founder, famously said, “We seek to be friends of all and enemies to none.” The Cuban people shed their blood on African soil in the fight against apartheid. Indeed, Cuba has been, and continues to be, a faithful friend to Africa.

You see, the very fact that I can stand here and ask these things, and the fact that all nations can ostensibly gather here to address critical global issues, air grievances, and express concerns—that is what makes the survival of this organisation so important.

In every old city or village, you will find a town square, a courtyard, or a plaza that once served as a gathering place for the citizens and their leaders. Meetings and celebrations were held there, as were trials and elections. They were spaces that brought people together and held them as a community. Sadly, time and technology have eroded those spaces.

Madam President,

In many ways, the United Nations is the proverbial town square of our modern global village. And it has never been more critical for us to protect this one space that brings and holds the world’s nations together as a community.

The Internet, social media platforms, and Artificial Intelligence offer us the illusion of connectivity, when in fact they reinforce isolation by using algorithms that ensure we do not receive new ideas and perspectives, but rather more of the same. We are served alternative facts and manipulated images, making it easier to disseminate disinformation and sow seeds of division.

These are dangerous times. Our world is currently experiencing a rise in nationalism and economic instability. There is a general breakdown of multilateralism; various acts of aggression have been committed against the sovereignty of others, and nations are attempting to circumvent the very safeguards put in place to prevent large-scale global conflict.

These conditions are all too similar to the ones that led to the League of Nations’ failure in fulfilling its mandate. The denial of visas to President Abbas and the Palestinian delegation sets a bad precedent and should be deeply worrying to all member nations.

Ghana recognised the state of Palestine in 1988 and supported a two-state solution to the conflict.

Contrary to the claims of some, a two-state solution would not be a reward for Hamas but, rather, a reprieve for the hundreds of thousands of innocent people who have been facing collective punishment and forced starvation for no reason other than the fact that they are Palestinian.

For nearly two years, and for the fear of reprisal, we here in this General Assembly have been playing hide-and-seek with language to find the right words to help us avoid or excuse what we all know is taking place there.

But here’s the thing, it doesn’t matter what you call it: if it looks like a duck, swims like a duck, and quacks like a duck, well then… It must be a duck. The crimes in Gaza must stop.

Madam President,

I want to draw particular attention to the conflict in Sudan, which this body has described as the world’s largest humanitarian crisis. Twelve million people have had to flee their homes.

When we speak of migration, we refer to the 12 million new refugees, whom we, as a global community, should be willing to assist in much the same way that many member nations readily assisted new refugees from Ukraine.

Let’s dispense with euphemisms and dog-whistles and speak frankly. It’s not a mystery that when leaders of Western nations complain of their migration problems, they are often referring to immigrants from the Global South.

Many of those migrants are climate refugees. Interestingly, the Global North emits 75% more greenhouse gases than the Global South. However, the effects of climate change are more severe in the Global South because we lack the resources to address them effectively.

So, when the desert encroaches and our villages and towns become unlivable, we are forced to flee.

Warsan Shire, a Somali-British poet born in Kenya to Somalian refugee parents, was London’s first Youth Poet Laureate. She writes in her poem titled “Home”.

You have to understand that no one puts their children in a boat unless the water is safer than the land No one burns their palms

under trains beneath carriages

No one spends days and nights in the stomach of a truck feeding on newspaper unless the miles travelled mean something more than a journey.

Madam President,

We cannot normalise cruelty. We cannot normalise hatred.

We cannot normalise xenophobia and racism.

If we are going to tell a story, let’s not tell it slant. Let’s tell all the truth.

When we speak of migrants, we speak of Maame Ewusi-Mensah Frimpong, a judge on the US District Court for the Central District of California. She is the first Black female judge on any of California’s four federal district courts. She was born in America to immigrant parents from Ghana.

We speak of Peter Bossman, a medical doctor born in Ghana who moved to the town of Piran in Slovenia in the 1980s. He later became the first Black mayor of Piran, the first Black mayor in Slovenia, and in the whole of Eastern Europe.

We speak of T-Michael, the iconic Ghanaian-Norwegian artist and designer, and the late Kofi Annan, former United Nations Secretary-General and Nobel Peace Prize recipient, who was born in Ghana but spent his adulthood in various places in America and Europe.

These are people who have brought great distinction to the countries that they call home. Just as the migrants and the children of migrants before them did. These are not invaders or criminals.

Madam President,

The slave trade must be recognised as the greatest crime against humanity. As African Champion on reparations, Ghana intends to introduce a motion in this August body to that effect.

More than twelve and a half million Africans were forcibly taken against their will and transported to create wealth for the powerful Western nations.

We must demand reparations for the enslavement of our people and the colonisation of our land that resulted in the theft of natural resources, as well as the looting of artefacts and other items of cultural heritage that have yet to be returned in total. We recognise the value of our land and the value of our lives.

As did our coloniser, as well as the governments that happily paid reparations to former slave owners as compensation for the loss of their “property”—that “property” for which compensation was paid referred to enslaved people who had been freed.

Madam President,

An increasingly insecure world is witnessing upward spending on defence budgets of bilateral partners and steep cuts in Official Development Assistance. Since July 2024, there has been a 40% drop in humanitarian aid to Africa.

In this era of global uncertainty, Africa must exercise sovereignty over its natural resources to raise the necessary funds to ensure the well-being of its citizens.

The days of parceling out vast concession areas to foreign interests for exploitation must come to an end. We will continue to welcome foreign investment, but we must negotiate better for a bigger share of the natural resources that belong to us.

We are tired of the continued image of poverty-stricken, disease-ridden rural communities, living at the periphery of huge foreign-controlled natural resource concession areas. We are tired of having people extract the most they can from us and, in return, offer us the very least by way of respect, consideration, and dignity.

We are tired of not being represented in ways that reveal the richness and complexity of our history or acknowledge all that we have overcome to arrive here, in this liminal space of untold possibilities.

Allow me to echo the Indian-American writer, Arundhati Roy, who wrote: “Another world is not only possible, she is on her way. On a quiet day, I can hear her breathing.”

I want to add that for the sake of Africa, and quite selfishly, for the sake of my 18-year-old daughter, I hope this new world that is arriving is a place of safety and equality for women and girls. To succeed, we must empower everyone, including women and girls, to reach their full potential.

In closing, Madam President,

I would like to congratulate you on your election to preside over this historic 80th General Assembly, and on being the fifth woman to hold this distinction.

I would also like to congratulate Her Excellency Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang on being the first woman Vice President of Ghana. Now every Ghanaian girl knows the heights to which she can ascend.

Words matter, but issues of representation matter even more, which is why Ghana looks forward to the appointment of a woman as Secretary General of this organisation in the future.

Madame President, Your Excellencies,

Thank you for your kind attention”.

NPP’s junk economy paid teachers and nurses, why can’t your so-called good economy? – Mahama gov’t asked

0

Kofi Tonto, an aide to former Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, has fired shots at the John Mahama government over its failure to pay Teachers and Nurses.

According to Kofi Tonto, the NDC government claimed the Akufo-Addo government left behind a junk economy, but they were able to pay Teachers and Nurses.

Kofi Tonto highlighted that despite the economic challenges, the Akufo-Addo government paid workers and supported them even during the COVID-19 pandemic.

The NPP man rejected the Mahama government’s claims that the previous government left behind a junk economy.

Speaking on Good Afternoon Ghana on Metro TV on Monday, March 2, 2026, Kofi Tonto stated, “They claim that we left a junk economy. We don’t claim that, but we were able to pay teachers. We were able to pay the nurses. We were able to support government workers during COVID when they were not working. We paid them in full… We gave them 50 per cent in addition to their salaries and made it tax-free”.

“With your so-called proper economy, you can’t pay teachers. You can’t pay nurses. Electricity, 27 per cent increment. Water, 20 per cent. Sustainability tax, you’ve increased it to 3 per cent. You’ve extended the sunset clause… Non-life insurance: you’ve added 21 per cent. This is your so-called good economy,” he remarked.

Kofi Tonto also fired shots at the government’s anti-corruption Operation Recover All Loots (ORAL) initiative, describing it as ineffective.

He stated, “ORAL. It is the most useless thing I have ever heard. He said Ablakwa did off-the-cuff or back-of-the-envelope calculations… He took a sheet of paper. ‘Oh, Kofi has stolen five… Kwame has stolen 10… Yaw has stolen 15’”.

He further questioned the approach to ORAL, saying, “Is that how you fight corruption? Mr. President, you didn’t know you needed an investigation before you allowed Okudzeto Ablakwa to recklessly put out a figure”.

“A government has built an institution for $240 million, and you claim that you are going to retrieve all of that $240 million. Is that sensible? These guys… they are frakadam, awam at one government,” he added.

Meanwhile, the Ministry of Health has announced that payment of unpaid arrears to nurses and midwives posted during the 2024/2025 will begin in April.

The arrangement follows a successful negotiation between the Ministry of Health and the Ministry of Finance.

The Ministry of Health statement further disclosed that to ensure a timely and responsible settlement, the government has structured the disbursements into four monthly instalments.

The payments will be distributed as follows: April, two months of arrears; May, three months of arrears; June, three months of arrears and July, three months of arrears.

“She’s fitting to do it to y’all again” – Efya warns after Agradaa’s release

Multiple award-winning Ghanaian singer Efya has reacted to viral videos of Ghanaian preacher Patricia Asiedua Asiamah, popularly known as Nana Agradaa, church members jubilating.

Efya, in her post, expressed disappointment while questioning the actions of the congregants.

The Ghanaian musician further cast doubt on whether Agradaa had truly changed allegeding that she will scam them again.

According to Efya, she believes Agradaa will repeat her past actions at the right time.

Efya in a post wrote, “She’s fitting to do it to y’all again and again… we gon see..!!”

Agradaa was released from Nsawam prison on March 3, 2026.

In a viral video shared by Angel FM on Facebook on March 3, 2026, Agradaa was spotted in all white with Angel Asiamah, her husband and some family members, all dressed in white.

The video shared by Angel Asiamah was captioned, “Thank God my wife is finally home.”

The development follows: Agradaa’s reduced sentence by the Amasaman High Court, describing Agradaa’s original punishment as harsh and excessive under the circumstances of the case.

Meanwhile, Agradaa has broken her silence ahead of her release from the Nsawam Prison today, March 3, 2026.

Ghana’s inflation drops for 14th straight month, February rate drops to 3.3%

0

Ghana’s inflation has declined for the 14th straight month, with February rate falling to 3.3 per cent.

The 3.3 percent inflation drop marks Ghana’s lowest inflation rate since 2021.

On a month-on-month basis, inflation was 0.8 percent, indicating that the general price level increased by 0.8 percent between January and February 2026”.

“There is another pandemic coming, stronger than COVID-19” – Archbishop Duncan-Williams

0

The General Overseer of Action Chapel International, Archbishop Nicholas Duncan-Williams, has blown an alarm on a prophecy warning of a possible global pandemic.

According to Archbishop Nicholas Duncan-Williams, there is another pandemic coming, stronger than COVID-19.

The man of God disclosed that the pandemic is not a judgment from God, but it is from the devil, and the greed of men.

Archbishop Duncan-Williams stressed that the devil and greedy men and women want to release the pandemic to kill people to make money.

Duncan-Williams declared that with prayers, the pandemic can be averted, adding that Ghanaians must pray for God to spare his children as he saved Lot and the family.

Speaking to his Church congregation, Archbishop Nicholas Duncan-Williams stated, “There is another pandemic coming, and this one will be stronger than COVID-19. The good news is that it looks like the indicators are pointing to what we are perserving that it is not a judgment from God, but it is from the devil, and the greed of men.

So if it is the devil and greedy men and women want to release this thing on the world to kill people to make money, it means that when we pray, it can be averted.

The other thing is, we need to pray, we need to take it very seriously and pray that God will spare his children and save his children like he saved Lot, and Lot’s family”.

In related news, Archbishop Nicholas Duncan-Williams has backed the directive by Elvis Afriyie-Ankrah, Presidential Envoy for Interfaith and Ecumenical Relations, to review prophecy.

According to Duncan-Williams, the directive aligns with biblical teaching and is a responsible way to protect believers from misleading or fear-inducing messages.

Duncan-Williams further emphasised that all prophecy is conditional and should be examined carefully, especially that with effects for national life.

The man of God further encourages religious leaders to educate their congregations, foster discernment, adding that prophetic ministry must remain rooted in sound biblical principles.

Speaking on Channel One TV’s Point of View on Wednesday, February 25, Archbishop Duncan-Williams explained, “I agreed with it. It was a good thing because the Bible says let two prophesy and let the others judge. It means that we have the right to judge prophecy. We have the right to do due diligence about prophecy.

“All prophecy is conditional, even the coming of the Lord. We have to pray, Maranatha, for him to come. Except that God, being who he is, has the right to cut the times short lest even the elect be deceived.

“That aside, every prophecy must be subjected to due diligence and also understand that God operates in twos. Once we have been told, twice we have heard that all power belongs to God. Then at the mouth of two and three witnesses, every word is established,” he said.
