In a series of viral videos on social media, a large group of Shatta Wale fans stormed the EOCO office dressed in black and red bands.

However, a member of the dancehall artiste Shatta Wale’s management, Sammy Flex, has revealed the artiste was granted GHC10 million bail.

Read the EOCO statement below:

“Charles Nii Armah Mensah, aka Shatta Wale, was invited by EOCO to assist in investigations surrounding a 2019 Lamborghini Urus, a car identified by the FBI and the US Justice Department as proceeds of a $14 million crime involving one Nana Kwabena Amuah, a Ghanaian who is currently serving a jail term in the USA.

The investigation forms part of a larger probe regarding possible co-conspirators in the same crime, which occurred in the US involving some Ghanaians and recoveries of the proceeds of the crime.

Following requests from the FBI and the US Justice Department to EOCO to track the vehicle and conduct local investigations in respect of uncovering possible co-conspirators in Ghana, EOCO began looking for the vehicle until it was identified and seized in or around May this year, in the possession of Charles Nii Armah Mensah.

On August 15, 2025, a United States District Court of the Eastern District of Kentucky, Central Division of Lexington, in a criminal case of the United States of America vrs. Nana Kwabena Amuah issued an order forfeiting a substitute asset on the Lamborghini Urus in question, authorising the US Government to take possession of the said vehicle in Ghana as restitution for the crime.

On August 5, 2025, following a public claim by Charles Nii Armah Mensah that he purchased the car at a price of US$150,000 from an unidentified party, EOCO invited him to report on August 13, 2025. The appointment was later rescheduled for August 20, 2025, at 10 am to assist with investigations.

Counsel for Charles Nii Armah Mensah indicated to EOCO officers that they would prefer to report at 11 am. EOCO readjusted its schedule to align with its time. Shortly before 11 am, Counsel for Nii Armah called EOCO to claim that his client was not available and that he was also busy. EOCO indicated to Counsel that he and his client were expected to report as scheduled.

Charles Nii Armah Mensah arrived at the office around 3 pm and insisted that he was not going to cooperate until his Counsel arrived, a right which he is entitled to and was accorded. EOCO investigators and Charles Nii Armah Mensah waited from 11 am till 5 pm before his Counsel showed up. Incidentally, EOCO’s closing time is 5 pm. Nevertheless, EOCO staff and the operational team chose to carry on with the interrogation, which ended around 9 pm. Officers eventually left the office around 11 pm.

Nii Armah was granted bail around 9 pm, shortly after interrogation ended. He was granted bail of GHC 10,000,000 with two sureties to be justified. Once the sureties are presented, hopefully this morning, EOCO will undertake surety inspection, which is a standard protocol, after which Charles Nii Armah Mensah will leave custody.

So far, Charles Nii Armah Mensah has been unable to identify the person from whom he purchased the said Lamborghini Urus except to say that he bought it from the “street” and from someone possibly called “ZAK,” who may have contacted him on WhatsApp but whose identity he does not know and whose contact he has thrown away.

So far, Charles Nii Armah Mensah also does not possess any documentation in terms of receipt or transfer documents which show that he owns or purchased the said vehicle, except a customs declaration document in his possession bearing the name of Nana Kwabena Amuah, who is currently in jail”.

Fans of Shatta Wale, commonly known as Shatta Movement, have stormed the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) on Thursday, August 21, 2025, to demand his release from custody.

In a series of viral videos on social media, a large group of Shatta Wale fans stormed the EOCO office dressed in black and red bands.

However, a member of the dancehall artiste Shatta Wale’s management, Sammy Flex, has revealed the artiste was granted GHC10 million bail.

According to Sammy Flex, Shatta Wale was granted bail with two sureties by the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO).

In a video shared by Sammy Flex on his Facebook, he revealed that Shatta Wale’s legal team and management are working to settle the bail conditions by Thursday, August 21, 2025.

Sammy Flex has also revealed that Shatta Wale was not detained by EOCO over a money laundering probe.

According to Sammy Flex, Shatta Wale was detained over issues relating to tax obligations over his yellow Lamborghini.

He clarified concerns about Shatta Wale being detained over money laundering, as it was being speculated in the media.

Sammy Flex revealed that the dancehall artist presented himself to EOCO for the interrogation process, and they confirmed the artist was not involved in money laundering or any criminal activity.

In a video shared on X, Sammy Flex explained, “Shatta Wale went there himself this afternoon after receiving the invitation to assist in investigations into the Lamborghini and related matters. He presented himself as a law-abiding citizen and defended the fact that he bought his car”.

“After interrogation, it was clear that Shatta Wale is not involved in money laundering or any other criminal act, as some portals have falsely reported. The main issue is about tax obligations related to the vehicle”, Sammy Flex stressed.

Meanwhile, Shatta Wale was detained by the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO).

In a statement released by his management confirmed the development.

Sammy Flex, in a statement that has gone viral on X, wrote, “The management of dancehall artist Shatta Wale (Charles Nii Armah Mensah Jr.) is issuing this statement following his detention by the Economic and Organized Crime Office (EOCO) today.

This follows an inquiry related to tax obligations of a yellow Lamborghini vehicle. Mr. Mensah presented himself voluntarily at the EOCO offices this afternoon along with his lawyer Cephas Biyuo, to assist with investigations”.

Shatta Wale’s management further went on to assure his fans that his lawyers are working to resolve the issue.

“We want to assure all fans and the general public that his legal team is fully engaged and actively working with the authorities to resolve this matter. They are taking al necessary steps to secure his release at the earliest opportunity.

We urge the SM Family and all well-wishers to remain calm and avoid any speculation. We have the utmost confidence in the judicial process.

Management and his legal representatives will return to the EOCO offices tomorrow morning to continue these discussions.

We will provide further updates as appropriate”, the statement concluded.

My handshake with Ralph is not an endorsement but an act of courtesy – Health Minister defends

0

Kwabena Mintah Akandoh, the Minister of Health, has defended his decision to shake hands with social media activist Ralph St. William, who has been fingered in the Ridge Hospital assault.

According to Kwabena Mintah Akandoh, his handshake with Ralph St. William was not an endorsement of the alleged assault but an act of courtesy.

The Health minister emphasised that the fact that he shook hands with him does not mean he would stop any measures taken by the government to unravel the situation.

Speaking at a press conference on Thursday, August 21, 2025, Kwabena Mintah Akandoh stated, “After we finished the meeting with the hospital management, I put together a committee to investigate the matter in question. So, after that meeting, we came outside, and my attention was drawn to a gentleman who I was told was at the centre of the controversy.

“So, on approaching me, I asked, ‘Why did you do what you did?’ When I asked, the gentleman stretched his hand, shook me, and attempted to whisper something into my ear. At this point, should I push him away, snub him, or shout at him? Even if that guy has been prosecuted and sentenced to life imprisonment, if he stretches his hand to shake me, as a minister and as a public officer, I have a duty to greet him back,” he said.

“The fact that I shook hands with him does not mean I should stop any measures the ministry or government will take to unravel the situation,” he stressed.

However, The General Secretary of the Ghana Registered Nurses and Midwives Association (GRNMA), Dr David Tenkorang, has accused the Health Minister, Kwabena Mintah Akandoh, of not respecting nurses.

Speaking on Asempa FM on Tuesday, August 19, 2025, Dr David Tenkorang was reacting to the Ministry of Health’s explanation on Ridge Hospital violence regarding the Health Minister’s visit to Ridge following the incident.

Dr David Tenkorang stated, “What is even annoying is what the minister did. His statement runs contrary to his posture. You went there, and the same Ralph who had engaged in that act of hooliganism, you went there to embrace him. Look at the pictures on social media”.

“He affectionately embraced the Ralph guy, somebody who has been fingered as the perpetrator of that heinous crime. He embraced him, and then the guy whispered into his ears, and he was smiling; whether it was a question or whatever, then he was smiling. How did the guy get to know that the minister had come there for him to rush there immediately?” he questioned.

Dr Tenkorang further added, “I agree with you, but the man does not give respect to nurses. How can you treat nurses like this? It’s the clearest case of disrespect. You go and embrace the very guy, and look, initially, he was being defended that he met the person before meeting the management. It’s not true. Look, if you show us respect, we will also show you respect. I mean, what is he trying to show us?”

The GRNMA General Secretary further accused the Health Minister of being ignorant about healthcare delivery.

Background

The Ridge Hospital was thrown into confusion after a self-styled social activist, identified as Ralph St. Williams, stormed the emergency ward and filmed staff while accusing them of delaying treatment for his patient.

In a video that has since gone viral, Ralph is seen with blood on his hands, shouting at doctors and nurses for allegedly ignoring an accident victim he brought in. The footage, which also showed critically ill patients receiving treatment, has sparked concerns about patient privacy and hospital protocols.

According to Ralph, he had waited for over an hour without his ward being attended to. His actions, however, escalated into a heated confrontation, with witnesses reporting that a nurse was assaulted in the process. The hospital later confirmed that the Ghana Police Service had to be called in to restore order.

“The wannabes have been spectacularly disastrous” – Ablakwa mocks Assafuah on private jet controversy

0

Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, the Minister for Foreign Affairs, has mocked Vincent Ekow Assafuah, the member of parliament for Old Tafo, over his attempts to emulate him regarding Ghana’s presidential travels.

According to Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, it is comical that the very people demanding him to apologise or resign are the same people trying so hard to emulate his actions.

He noted that his wannabes have been spectacularly disastrous in their attempts to emulate him.

Vincent Ekow Assafuah, in a Facebook post, claimed John Mahama boarded a private plane at an incredible cost of $690,000.

Ekow Assafuah, in a Facebook post, wrote, “This private jet, M-BAEP, left Accra this morning around 7 a.m. It is estimated to cost $15,000 per hour to rent this flight. A simple calculation shows that the 7-hour journey already covered amounts to $105,000.

If the flight proceeds to Japan, which is likely to take about 12 hours, that would be another $180,000”.

He further added, “If it then continues to Singapore, approximately 7 hours away, that would add another $105,000.

Finally, if the jet flies directly to Germany and then back to Accra, a total of about 20 hours return trip, that would add another $300,000.

Altogether, the cost comes to an incredible $690,000 without including waiting times and/or stopovers”.

However, it was later revealed that President John Dramani Mahama boarded an Emirates Airlines flight EK318 during his recent trip to Tokyo.

Ablakwa, in a write-up on X  on Wednesday, August 20, Hon Ablakwa responded to his critics, saying,“I owe no one an apology for leading this consequential and noble oversight to protect taxpayers. I am confident the vast majority of Ghanaians are appreciative of my sacrifices — this is a legacy I will forever cherish. I did it in good conscience for my country and not for the praises of those who cannot look beyond their stomachs”.

“It is really comical that the very people demanding of me to apologise or resign are the same people trying so hard to emulate my actions — the overwhelming verdict by Ghanaians, however, is that, so far, the ‘wannabes’ have been spectacularly disastrous. In all humility, I am now inundated with appeals from well-meaning Ghanaians asking that I urgently organise a workshop for the disgraced MPs. That is what happens when you are not motivated by truth, patriotism, diligence, principle, sincerity, and the national interest,” he added.

“I was long vindicated when President Akufo-Addo reluctantly listened to me and the good people of Ghana who were justifiably outraged by his profligate conduct, and therefore had to stop the practice of renting ultra-luxury executive jets at taxpayer expense in his final year in office,” Ablakwa added.

Ablakwa, in his post, also recounted former President Akufo-Addo’s own determined opposition to President Rawlings’ plans to acquire a new executive jet in parliament in 2000.

He wrote, I am quite certain former President Akufo-Addo is also proud of the forceful arguments he made in Parliament as Ranking Member, specifically on 15th February, 2000 opposing plans by President Rawlings to purchase a new executive jet primarily on the basis that it wasn’t a priority. Ironically, his misguided hirelings and minions vilifying me conveniently conceal former President Akufo-Addo’s documented track record. (See attached the Parliamentary Hansard of February 15, 2000 containing Akufo-Addo’s revealing debate);

Former President Akufo-Addo didn’t think President Rawlings’ presidential jet acquisition should be exempt from the principles of prioritization, prudence, value for money and transparency — so what changed when he became President 17  years later? Why is Akufo-Addo’s conduct in 2000 commendable but my conduct between 2021 and 2024 condemnable?”

The Foreign Affairs minister added, “I have absolutely no regrets whatsoever for leading a long-drawn-out successful patriotic campaign against former President Akufo-Addo’s unjustified, wasteful and extremely reckless ostentatious charter of ultra-luxury jets for US$18,000 an hour, particularly at a time Ghana’s presidential jet was available and in pristine condition;

My oversight mandate was strictly inspired by the national interest and the patriotic objective of protecting the public purse — consistent with former President Akufo-Addo’s own eloquent pledge;

“Our eyes are red, nobody should think of coming to cause trouble” – IGP warns ahead of by-election

0

The Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Christian Tetteh Yohuno, has issued a stern warning ahead of the Akwatia by-election on September 2.

The IGP revealed that the Ghana Police Service has the men and their eyes are red, so nobody should think of coming to cause trouble.

The IGP assured the public of the Ghana Police Service’s readiness to provide a safe Akwatia by-election.

IGP Yohuno gave the assurance after the Police Management Board (POMAB) visited the High-Risk Operation Training Centre at Akyerematen on Wednesday, August 20, 2025.

Speaking to recruits at the Police Training School at Kyerematen in the Eastern Region, IGP Yohonu stated, “During the Akwatia by-election, if you come with arms, we (Police) will deal with you with arms.

We have brought men here, and they are trained on how to handle arms. As we are going to the election ground, we decided to come and sharpen our skills for the by-election.

Today, they will move to Akwatia and assess all the threats just to let the country know that we are ready for the election, and all the threats we hear from social media have given us the room to prepare and to remove fear for the electorate in Akwatia that nobody can come here to cause any trouble,” he said.

He added, “We want to assure Ghanaians that the police is ready to handle any type of thing that may come in Akwatia. We are ready with the men. We have the men who can handle this situation, and then our eyes are red for Akwatia and nobody, nobody should think of coming to cause trouble”.

“No political party should mobilise men to come and foment trouble, and nobody should have in mind the intention of snatching a ballot box. We have prepared our men adequately to handle this situation, and that, I informed the political parties as I met them yesterday [Tuesday],” he explained.

Meanwhile, Henry Nana Boakye, the National Organiser of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), also known as Nana B, has revealed the party will protect itself in the upcoming Akwatia by-election on Tuesday, September 2.

Nana B noted that the NPP party’s supporters being attacked during the Ablekuma North have made it necessary for the party to put its security measures in place.

Speaking on the Citi Eyewitness News on Tuesday, August 19, Nana B stated, “We have said that it is important that we protect ourselves. Self-protection is well defined within the remit of the law. We are not going to deploy any thugs. We are not going to deploy any vigilantes. No, but what we have said is that we are going to protect ourselves. I am not sure that is a crime.

“We will protect ourselves. All that we are saying is that the protection will not be unlawful. The protection will not infringe on any laws whatsoever. It will not be an act of illegality,” he stated.

Also, Salam Mustapha, the National Youth Organiser of the New Patriotic Party, has alleged that the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) are likely to bring thugs to the Akwatia by-election.

Speaking in an interview on the Channel One Newsroom, Salam Mustapha stated, “When we were going to Ablekuma North, there were remarks from NDC people that they are going to retaliate for what happened in Ayawaso West-Wuogon and so on.

There were such remarks made by NDC people, and it happened. And I can tell you, knowing the NDC, they are very dishonest. We cannot trust them when they say they are not going to bing people there. You go there and the ‘azoka’ boys will be there. I know these people. We have worked over the period, and I can tell you that the NDC will bring thugs,” he stated.

Meanwhile, the Electoral Commission has announced that the printing of ballot papers for the upcoming Akwatia parliamentary by-election will begin today, Wednesday, August 20.

Background

EOCO, some weeks ago, seized Shatta Wale, luxury Lamborghini Urus.

According to EOCO, Shatta Wale’s Lamborghini Urus is linked to one Nana Kwabena Amuah, who is currently serving an 86-month sentence in the United States.

EOCO, in a press release on August 5, 2025, revealed Shatta Wale’s Trassaco Valley residence was searched in June after the FBI and the U.S. Justice Department requested it in 2023.

The Economic and Organised Crime Office, in their statement signed by Raymond Archer, the acting Executive, read, “In June this year, the Economic and Organized Crime Office acting on a 2023 request from the Federal Bureau of Investigations (FBI) and the United States Justice Department undertook an operation which led to a lawful search in a home at Trassaco Valley Phase 1. in Accra.

The operation which was undertaken by the Survelillance And Asset Recovery Unit (SARU) of EOCO led to the discovery and seizure of a 2019 Lamborghini Urus which the the FBI and the Justice Department have tied to the proceeds of the criminal enterprise of one Nana Kwabena Amuah who is currently serving an 86 month sentence for several financial crimes in the US”.

The statement added, “The car was seized from one Charles Nii Armah, aka Shatta Wale. The officers were professional and civil, and the search and seizure occurred without incident.

Nii Armah had pleaded with officers that he did not want the seizure to be made public because the vehicle was a big part of his brand, and that if his supporters saw the vehicle being driven away in the company of EOCO, it would destroy his brand”.

According to EOCO, Shatta Wale was allowed to surrender the vehicle after he pleaded that it would destroy his brand.

EOCO statement added, “Nii Armah was allowed to surrender the vehicle himself, which is currently in the possession of EOCO.

It is a standard safety protocol practice for officers of the Surveillance and Asset Recovery Unit (SARU) to carry weapons whilst on operation for the safety of officers”.

EOCO statement further announced that Shatta Wale and a former senior officer of the National Signal Bureau (NSB) have been assessed as persons of interest.

Also revealing that the FBI and the Justice Department want the Government of Ghana to return the vehicle to the US as part of Nana Kwabena Amuah’s restitution.

“The FBI and the Justice Department intend to send a formal Mutual Legal Assistance (MLA) to the Government of Ghana to return the car to the United States as part of Nana Kwabena Amuah’s $4,743,443 restitution.

Charles Nii Armah, aka Shatta Wale, and a former senior officer of the National Signal Bureau (NSB), have been assessed as persons of interest and will be invited by EOCO to assist in further ongoing investigations in the coming days.

EOCO may share the final investigation report with the FBI and the Justice Department as part of our ongoing cooperation”, the EOCO statement concluded.

“Get somebody to educate you on the triage system” – GRNMA General Secretary fires Health Minister

0

The General Secretary of the Ghana Registered Nurses and Midwives Association (GRNMA), Dr David Tenkorang, has fired shots at Ghana’s Health Minister, Kwabena Mintah Akandoh claiming he lacks education on the hospital’s triage system.

Speaking on Asempa FM on Tuesday, August 19, 2025, Dr David Tenkorang was reacting to the Ministry of Health’s explanation on Ridge Hospital violence regarding the Health Minister’s visit to Ridge following the incident.

Dr David Tenkorang stated, “The most disgusting and infuriating thing is the second point; the minister should know that there are systems over there. If he doesn’t understand, he should get somebody to educate him on the triage system. It is such that you can’t say because you are the first person to show up, you should be taken care of. When you come, we will triage you and establish if your ailment requires immediate care or delayed care as compared to others.

“After assessing and we will establish that your situation requires immediate care, they will attend to you immediately. If it requires that you are placed on standby for others to be cared for, not that they will neglect you, they will give you first aid or whatever, but they will attend to other people who need immediate attention. So, that statement does not make sense to me at all; it doesn’t make sense. Whoever wrote that statement doesn’t even understand the hospital system. Why? Is he a farmer? What kind of life is that?” he fumed.

The General Secretary of GRNMA further fumed at the Health Minister’s interaction with Ralph after the Ridge incident.

He added, “What is even annoying is what the minister did. His statement runs contrary to his posture. You went there, and the same Ralph who had engaged in that act of hooliganism, you went there to embrace him. Look at the pictures on social media.

Dr David Tenkorang further accused the Health Minister of being disrespectful towards nurses.

“I agree with you, but the man does not give respect to nurses. How can you treat nurses like this? It’s the clearest case of disrespect. You go and embrace the very guy, and look, initially he was being defended that he met the person before meeting the management. It’s not true. Look, if you show us respect, we will also show you respect. I mean, what is he trying to show us?” he added.

Meanwhile, Kwabena Mintah Akandoh, the Health Minister, has said the Ghana Registered Nurses and Midwives Association (GRNMA) calls for the Ralph Saint Williams and others who assaulted a nurse at Ridge Hospital to be fair.

The Health Minister noted that assault is a crime and that the law must take its course if there is an assault.

Also, Tony Goodman, the Public Relations Officer at the Ministry of Health, has jumped to the defence of the Health Minister, Kwabena Mintah Akandoh.

According to Tony Goodman, the Health Minister should be commended and not chastised for his handshake with Ralph William.

He further cautioned Ghanaians from picking bits and pieces of the facts concerning the Ridge Hospital assault.

Speaking on the Citi Breakfast Show on Wednesday, August 20, 2025, Tony Goodman stated, “If we pick bits and pieces of the fact and put it as though shaking somebody in the hospital is all there is to this matter, or it is all that the minister has done, it is not fair”.

“On his way, a gentleman came. We cannot say that he knew him. He was later informed by the hospital management that the said gentleman was the perpetrator. The police arrived, and the guy fled; his accomplice was arrested. The minister’s words were clear—‘get the guy arrested,’” Goodman clarified.

“I am sure we should commend the minister for this, not chastise him for a handshake,” he concluded.

Additionally, a statement signed by Juliana Hariwa, Head of Public Relations, Ridge Hospital, explained that the incident happened during a period when clinicians were handling multiple emergencies at once. The statement said the activist, together with relatives of the patient, “invaded the emergency triage” in large numbers, disrupting service and creating unnecessary tension.

In addition, the Ghana Registered Nurses and Midwives Association (GRNMA) has given the government a 48-hour ultimatum to arrest Ralph Saint Williams and others who assaulted a nurse at Ridge Hospital.

The Health Minister does not respect nurses – GRNMA General Secretary

0

The General Secretary of the Ghana Registered Nurses and Midwives Association (GRNMA), Dr David Tenkorang, has accused the Health Minister, Kwabena Mintah Akandoh, of not respecting nurses.

He detailed, “The most disgusting and infuriating thing is the second point; the minister should know that there are systems over there.

EOCO, in a press release on August 5, 2025, revealed Shatta Wale’s Trassaco Valley residence was searched in June after the FBI and the U.S. Justice Department requested it in 2023.

The Economic and Organised Crime Office, in their statement signed by Raymond Archer, the acting Executive, read, “In June this year, the Economic and Organized Crime Office acting on a 2023 request from the Federal Bureau of Investigations (FBI) and the United States Justice Department undertook an operation which led to a lawful search in a home at Trassaco Valley Phase 1. in Accra.

Blakk Rasta, a Radio and Television personality, has blown an alarm the the Economic and Organised Crime Office investigation.

According to Blakk Rasta, EOCO is currently investigating several artiste in Ghana involved in criminal ventures.

Blakk Rasta also added that EOCO investigations are around car theft, money laundering.

“No director asked to stay home and draw salary” – COCOBOD

0

Ghana Cocoa Board (COCOBOD) has refuted allegations made by Fiifi Boafo, the former Head of Public Affairs.

In a swift response in a press statement issued on Wednesday, August 20, COCOBOD emphatically stated that none of its directors has been asked to stay home and draw salary.

According to COCOBOD, only the former Director of Finance is on leave after

COCOBOD statement read, “Attention of Management of Ghana Cocoa Board (COCOBOD) has been drawn to misleading representations making rounds in sections of the media suggesting that ten (10) Directors at COCOBOD have been asked to stay home on full salary

Management wishes to state emphatically that no Director has been asked to stay home and draw salary”.

The statement added, “Management again wishes to state that no Director is on leave except for the former Director of Finance who for eight years had not gone on leave.

Management wishes to state that transfers and reassignments are part of strategic realignment to bring efficiency and effectiveness into the operations of the Board”.

COCOBOD statements come on the heels of  Fiifi Boafo, the former Head of Public Affairs at the Ghana Cocoa Board (COCOBOD), alleging that the Acting Chief Executive of COCOBOD, Dr Randy Abbey, has ordered COCOBOD directors to stay home with pay.

According to Fiifi Boafo, Randy Abbey has replaced all the top COCOBOD directors’ homes, paying them monthly and replacing them with the ruling National Democratic Congress members.

Fiifi Boafo noted that those sent home by the COCOBOD CEO are in their 40s and 45s with either 15 to 20 years of experience.

Speaking in an interview shared on X, Fiifi Boafo stated, “The one thing Randy Abbey has done? When he came, he asked all directors of COCOBOD to stay home with their monthly pay, and he replaced them with NDC members who are also being paid”.

He further detailed, mentioning some names of directors ordered to stay home, “Vincent Okyere Akomeah was a director, but now he is at home and still being paid. The President has replaced him with someone else who is also on the payroll.

His deputies, Paul Kofi and Frederick Amponsah Doku, are also affected. Frederick was promoted to director, but now he, too, is home, still receiving a salary. The Director of Finance has been replaced, but he is being paid, and the Director of Legal has also been replaced.

The Cocoa Health and Extension director is home and has been replaced by another person. Almost all the directors have been replaced and asked to sit at home while being paid”,  he alleged.

Fiifi Boafo added, “Some of those people are in their mid-40s, 45s. How is that person up for retirement? They are being paid, and they are at home and have been replaced because their party is in government, so their people must be directors.

These are not political appointments; not a single one of them has worked at COCOBOD for less than 15 years. Some have served for 20 and others for as many as 25 years”.

The former COCOBOD Head of Public Affairs noted that Randy Abbey’s dismissal of these people with institutional memory and experience places COCOBOD in serious trouble.

He added, “The danger is that during PPRC meetings that determine prices and other stuff due to their institutional memory, these people could have contributed with their knowledge, but now they are home doing nothing and still being paid.

Later, they will come and tell us that COCOBOD is in debt. How won’t you accumulate debt with all these payments?”, he questioned.

Meanwhile, the World Bank has revealed that Ghana’s cocoa sector is facing serious threats due to the Ghana Cocoa Board (COCOBOD)’s persistent operational and fiscal challenges.

According to the World Bank’s latest Ghana Economic Update, despite record-high global cocoa prices, Ghana’s production remains weak.

The World Bank asserted that COCOBOD’s quasi-fiscal operations have heightened financial risks.

The World Bank warned that COCOBOD challenges, if left unresolved, will have a dire impact on Ghana’s economy.

Cocoa remains Ghana’s second-largest export earner after gold.

Global Cocoa prices are at multi-decade highs, with experts calling on Ghana to urgently address production and financing bottlenecks to capitalise on the recent market conditions.

Pokuase–Nsawam road to be completed without delays – Deputy Road Minsiter

0

Alhassan Suhuyini, the Deputy Roads Minister, has assured Ghanaians that the Pokuase–Nsawam road project will be completed without delays.

The deputy road minister apologised to motorists for the inconvenience caused by the prolonged delay.

Speaking at the Public Accounts Committee of Parliament on Wednesday, August 20, Alhassan Suhuyini stated, “I will first of all apologise to all motorists on that stretch. It is one of the potatoes that we inherited at the ministry. By the time we got to the ministry, the contractor, like many other contractors across the country, had already abandoned the site due to non-payment, and we have been working with the Finance Minister to ensure that we get some releases to these contractors so they can go back to the site.

“This contractor, as we speak, has received some payment and has adequately mobilised back to the site. It is not going to be a nine-day wonder; he is back to site,” Mr. Suhuyini guaranteed.

Meanwhile, Kwasi Agyei, the Controller and Accountant General, has revealed that GH¢809 million has been paid to the contractor working on the Pokuase–Nsawam Highway.

The Controller and Accountant General announced that the money was paid on August 4, 2025.

Kwasi Agyei added that the government has fully met its financial obligations towards the project.

Speaking in an interview on Peace FM on Monday, August 18, the Controller and Accountant General stated, “On July 24, we gave part payment; on July 30, another tranche; and on August 4, the final payment. Altogether, we have honoured the request in full, amounting to about GH¢809 million”.

The Controller and Accountant General announcement comes just days before the one-week ultimatum issued by the Ghana Private Road Transport Union (GPRTU).

The GPRTU had earlier threatened to suspend operations on Wednesday, August 20, if the government failed to get the contractor back on site.

However, reports suggest the contractors of the Pokuase–Nsawam have returned to continue repair works.

Speaking on Sedem Afenyo, the Member of Parliament for Amasaman, stated, “Saturday in morning, I realised some work was being done here. Sunday, I went to church when I came back, and they were still working. Today they’ve moved to Sapeiman and Samsam junction. I drove to Samsam, and I realised that they have done a bit of filling. Sapeiman, they have done a bit of levelling, or let me say reshaping, and a bit of refilling”.

“What we’ve seen now is a situation we’ve not seen in the past two months. I have never seen vehicles drive at this speed in the past two weeks. There is always traffic here.

“The engineers I spoke to told me they are hoping to finish this stretch as in the filling and levelling of the road, by close this week. That is, if there is no rain, move to the other side, asphalt it for us and then move traffic flow to the other side and then work on this side,” the MP added.

In a related road story, Governs Kwame Agbodza, the minister of Roads and Highways, has said the John Mahama-led Big Push projects will be completed in twenty-four months.

The roads minister revealed that the Big Push road projects have been deliberately structured to span two years.

According to Agbodza, under the reset agenda, if there’s any evidence of a three-month delay by a contractor, they will write it into the contract and terminate it.

Speaking on Joy FM’s Super Morning Show, Agbodza detailed, “The average Ghanaian has come to accept something that is completely unacceptable, because they see road projects start around their backyard, and no one can tell them when it will be completed. We want to reset. ‘Reset’ means we need to change that narrative”.

“All the projects have been deliberately structured to span two years, 24 months, and we will not go beyond that. Sometimes, a contractor is awarded 100 kilometres of road. People forget that constructing 100 kilometres is not a small undertaking.

There may be people who are more interested in how much it costs — they focus on the money involved. So contractors take the job, and for seven or eight years, they do nothing. We want to avoid that”, he added.

The road minister emphasised that the project will go strictly with its timeline of completion, “From now on, Big Push — which is something we needed like yesterday — will work differently. When we award you 20 kilometres of road and say complete it in 24 months, we expect you to finish ahead of schedule.

If there’s any evidence of a three-month delay, we’ll write it into the contract: we terminate. We are not going to wait. If you like, go to court.

“No contractor is compelled to participate in Big Push, but if you do, you must be prepared to work 24/7. You must be ready to deliver within 12 months unless something extremely unforeseen happens, and we’ll be the ones to determine that.”

“I owe no one an apology for leading the noble oversight on Akufo-Addo’s presidential travels” – Ablakwa

0

Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, the Minister for Foreign Affairs, has said he owes no one an apology for leading the noble oversight on Akufo-Addo’s presidential travels to protect taxpayers.

According to Ablakwa, he remains extremely proud of his oversight as Ranking Member of the Parliamentary Committee on Foreign Affairs.

He also added that former President Akufo-Addo is also proud of the forceful arguments on his presidential travels.

In a post on X on Wednesday, August 20, Hon Ablakwa responded to his critics saying, “I remain extremely proud of my parliamentary oversight… My principled position has not changed and will not change. It has always been for God and Country”.

Ablakwa recounted former President Akufo-Addo’s own determined opposition to President Rawlings’ plans to acquire a new executive jet in parliament in 2000.

He wrote, “I am quite certain former President Akufo-Addo is also proud of the forceful arguments he made in Parliament as Ranking Member, specifically on 15th February, 2000 opposing plans by President Rawlings to purchase a new executive jet primarily on the basis that it wasn’t a priority. Ironically, his misguided hirelings and minions vilifying me conveniently conceal former President Akufo-Addo’s documented track record. (See attached the Parliamentary Hansard of February 15, 2000 containing Akufo-Addo’s revealing debate);

The Foreign Affair minister added, “I have absolutely no regrets whatsoever for leading a long-drawn-out successful patriotic campaign against former President Akufo-Addo’s unjustified, wasteful and extremely reckless ostentatious charter of ultra-luxury jets for US$18,000 an hour, particularly at a time Ghana’s presidential jet was available and in pristine condition;

My oversight mandate was strictly inspired by the national interest and the patriotic objective of protecting the public purse — consistent with former President Akufo-Addo’s own eloquent pledge;

I owe no one an apology for leading this consequential and noble oversight to protect taxpayers — I am confident the vast majority of Ghanaians are appreciative of my sacrifices — this is a legacy I will forever cherish. I did it in good conscience for my country and not for the praises of those who cannot look beyond their stomachs”.

Ablakwa, however, noted that it is comical that the very people demanding him to apologise or resign are the same people trying so hard to emulate his actions.

He further added, “. I was long vindicated when President Akufo-Addo reluctantly listened to me and the good people of Ghana who were justifiably outraged by his profligate conduct and therefore had to stop the practice of renting ultra-luxury executive jets at taxpayer expense in his final year in office;

The dishonest hirelings would want us to forget that from the second half of 2023, all the way to the end of his tenure on January 6, 2025, President Akufo-Addo abandoned chartered travels and resorted to the use of Ghana’s Presidential Jet. Indeed, I had occasion to commend President Akufo-Addo for the positive change of mind — even though many have argued that he stopped the extravagant rentals because Ghana became bankrupt and went in for a $3billion IMF bailout under stringent conditions”.

Ablakwa added that his oversight led to Akufo-Addo relying exclusively on Ghana’s Presidential Jet for over 18 months until he left office, confirming that he wasn’t wrong when he insisted that the Presidential Jet was fit for purpose.

Meanwhile,  Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, the Asantehene, has called on all political actors to stop playing politics with the procurement of presidential planes and helicopters.

According to the Asantehene, lives are at stake, and Ghana must ensure the safety and efficiency of the president and its personnel in the security service.

Otumfuo Osei Tutu II made this known when the Ashanti Regional Minister, Dr Frank Amoakohene, paid a courtesy call on him at the Manhyia Palace following last week’s tragic helicopter crash.

He described the incident as a national concern and further expressed deep sympathy to President John Mahama and the bereaved families.

The Asantehene stated, “Enough of the politicising of the purchase of presidential planes and helicopters. Human lives are at stake here. We must invest to safeguard their safety and efficiency”.

He further noted that most of the military aircraft currently in use are not in good condition.

He emphasised the need for investment in modern and reliable alternatives.

Otumfuo Osei Tutu II further urged all political divides to come together to address Ghana’s aviation and security logistics challenges.

Ghana’s Falcon 900 EX Presidential Jet was purchased in 2009 and arrived in the country in 2010.

It replaced a 37-year-old Foker 27 aircraft, which was regarded as a flying coffin.

The Falcon 900 EX Presidential Jet has since been grounded at the Dassault Falcon Service facility in Le Bourget, France, due to massive wear and tear issues.

Ablakwa’s dirty politics has cocooned Mahama – Salam Mustapha

0

Salam Mustapha, the National Youth Organiser of the New Patriotic Party, has said the now Foreign Affairs minister, Sam Okudzeto Ablakwa’s dirty politics have cocooned President John Dramani Mahama into waiting in transit for 22 hours.

According to Salam Mustapha, the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) in opposition told Ghanaians the Presidential jet was in good condition.

He accused the NDC of dirty politics with Ghana’s president’s travels, which has today placed President John Mahama in a tight corner by waiting in transit for 22 hours.

He asserted that the NDC government must live by the standards they have set for former President Akufo-Addo.

Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, in opposition, exposed then-President Akufo-Addo’s use of private jets.

He exposed former President Akufo-Addo’s $20,000-an-hour luxury jet travels, which he revealed as a wasteful expense.

The exposé pressured Akufo-Addo to revert to using Ghana’s presidential jet, saving millions of dollars in taxpayer funds.

Speaking on UTV, Salam Mustapha stated, “John Mahama is a beneficiary of the politics of insults; all the politics they did in this country, we have seen it. From Okudzeto Ablakwa…

Today, the president can board a plane and wait for transit for 22 hours because of the dirty politics we did in that country. It is because of the dirty politics Ablakwa did in the country, and he was supported, that is what has cocooned the president.

You see the president of the Republic of Ghana walking in the tunnel; it is a disgrace. You see the end of politics”.

He added, “They are telling lies; the Presidential jet is in pristine condition. I left the government about eight months ago. The time we were leaving the government, they told us that the presidential jet was in pristine condition. So far as we are concerned, the presidential jet is fit for purpose; there is nothing wrong with it.

The way they disturb former President Akufo-Addo, they should live by the standard”.

However, the Defence Minister, Dr Omane Boamah, before his passing, revealed that Ghana’s presidential jet is sick and heavily corroded.

According to the Defence Minister, the Presidential jet is in France due to serious technical faults.

Omane Boamah further revealed that the return date for the Presidential jet keeps changing.

Speaking at the Government Accountability Series on Monday, July 21, Dr Omane Boamah stated, “It is sad to note that for some time now, whenever the president’s jet goes for either maintenance or overhaul, the date that is scheduled for it to return to Ghana keeps changing”.

“They have extended it to two months before, and later two and a half. In this case, as we speak, the aircraft is still not in.”

“We are hoping that the date that has been given will see the Falcon in Ghana,” he said.

“The truth is that the presidential jet is heavily corroded… However, that does not in any way justify hiring or renting luxurious aircraft persistently for presidential use,” he asserted.

In 2021, the former Akufo-Addo government sought to purchase a new and bigger jet for the Presidency, but faced public backlash over accusations of extravagant travels by Akufo-Addo.

“What goes around comes around” – Napo reminds politicians

0

Dr Mathew Opoku Prempeh, the former running mate of Dr Mahamudu Bawumia in the 2024 presidential election, has reminded politicians that what goes around comes around.

Napo, in a social media post on X on August 20, 2025, shared an extract of an interview he had on JoyNews’ Personality Profile.

“This golden rule is timeless: we do unto others as we would have them do unto us. In politics and in life, we must always resist the urge to destroy others for short-term gain. What we sow always returns, so let us sow truth, fairness, and integrity,” he wrote.

In the video shared, Napo reminded politicians not to think of the political space as everything is a game.

Speaking on JoyNews’ Personality Profile,  Dr Matthew Opoku-Prempeh stated, “You live by what you don’t want to be done to you; don’t do it to a fellow human being. You might think that because we are in a political space, everything is a game. If I destroy Napo, I’m very, very happy. But hey, it’s not like that.

What goes around comes around. You might have destroyed Napo with the power of your microphone today, but definitely, you will be destroyed when you least expect it,” he stated.

In addition, Dr Matthew Opoku-Prempeh, in that same interview, also stated he was brought up to sit at the table with decision makers.

According to him, he was brought up to cherish one thing, public service, and not only public service, but bringing value through public service.

Napo further revealed, “I would say that is how I was brought up. I was brought up in a very politically aware family with a history of decades of partisan politics or active political life.”

“I was brought up to cherish one thing, public service, and not only public service, but bringing value through public service and for public service, meaning you just don’t participate. You participate in terms of regular impact.”

“That is how I was brought up, brought up to prove myself that I can sit at the table with decision makers, and not only the elderly, but a true decision maker.”

He added, “So brought up by grand uncles and uncles far older than myself, whose children were far older than me, and I served all of them, so that’s how I was brought up.”

“So me growing up, having public service has been a duty that has been imprinted in my heart, mind, and everything I do, so even deciding to belong to which associations growing up were all the associations that brought public service to the fore.”

Dr Matthew Opoku-Prempeh also narrated his early years joining the Boy Scouts and the Red Cross Society.

The former education minister narrated, “Like joining Boy Scouts at a very early age, be an altar boy. Not only that, joining the Red Cross Society, going to do medicine and public service.”

“The only difference is that some public service duties are very, very small, personal, but really impactful, and some are large and maybe impactful.”

“So being a doctor, you are serving one person at a time, and it could be very, very impactful for somebody who needs surgery, who is dying in agony, and you go in and you repair a strangled hernia or a rotten appendix or something, and you relieve his frustration. He sleeps well, and it brings a lot of joy to your heart and everything”, he stated.

Meanwhile, in a related Napo news he has refuted rumours that he has switched camp.

He stressed that he cannot be ungrateful to Dr Bawumia after making him the running mate.

Napo stated, “It is not true, I’ve not moved from any camp to any camp. I remain where I am. Can I be ungrateful to Dr Bawumia after making me the running mate? What kind of human being will be so ungrateful?

I’ve not moved any camp; what I’ve done is to try and unite the party against whoever emerges as the flagbearer of the NPP. There’s only one person who can become the flagbearer of the NPP”.

“20% of Mahama’s vote was from old NPP members” – Dr Arthur Kennedy

0

Dr Arthur Kobina Kennedy, a Physician and political activist, has said that 20 per cent of President John Mahama’s vote in the 2024 election was from old NPP members who never resigned publicly.

According to Dr Arthur Kennedy, the NPP owes suspended members apologies rather than granting them amnesty.

Dr Kennedy asserted that the 20 per cent votes must be earned back in 2028.

He asserted that the NPP leadership must issue a public apology to the suspended members it has now granted amnesty to.

Speaking on JOYNEWS AM Show on Monday, August 18, Dr Kennedy said, “I think the intent is good, but the execution was botched. The unity that is needed is indispensable to the success of political parties, as history has shown. But I think we owe a lot of people apologies, not just amnesties”

“We need to apologise to Ghanaians for running the party as if it were a private club that belongs to a few individuals. A party is a public institution and must be run in a way that attracts people,” he added.

Dr Kennedy explained, “In actual fact, the 2024 elections we lost partly because we were divided. Twenty per cent of John Mahama’s votes came from old NPP members who never resigned publicly, so they don’t need amnesty. But those votes must be earned back in 2028”.

“The same way you suspended and humiliated them, that is the same place you should go and make peace with them. The apologies are important—not only to Afoko and others, but to the people of Ghana, for policies such as spending $100 million on a hole while children still studied under trees and markets remained uncompleted,” he said.

Meanwhile, Paul Afoko, the former National Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), has said it is wrong of the party to extend an olive branch and then impose conditions.

The former NPP chairman added that if the party’s goal is to bring people back together, then the party cannot put hurdles in their way.

Speaking on Okay FM with host Kwame Nkrumah Tikese, Paul Afoko stated, “The olive branch extended by the NPP is a good thing,” he said, acknowledging the effort at reconciliation. “But it is wrong for the party to impose conditions on the amnesty. There should be no conditions or rules tied to the return of former members.”

“If you want to bring people back together for a common goal, then you cannot at the same time put hurdles in their way. That is not reconciliation,” he stressed.

Paul Afoko further urged the party to implement a more inclusive posture to restore true unity, rather than creating rules that, in his view, could reignite old divisions.

Their remarks follow the NPP’s granting all suspended party members general amnesty.

According to the NPP, the move is aimed at promoting unity and reconciliation.

The amnesty has been granted to all members suspended or who have pending disciplinary cases.

On August 16, 2025, in a statement signed by Mr. Danquah Smith Buttey, the Acting National Chairman read, “I bring you warm greetings from the national secretariat of the party.

I write to inform you that the National Council, at its Emergency Meeting held on Friday, July 25, 2025, resolved in the interest of unity and reconciliation to grant a General Amnesty to all Party members who have been suspended or whose disciplinary cases are currently pending before the appropriate adjudicatory bodies.

We hereby serve notice that this directive lifts all such suspensions and waives any ongoing proceedings against affected members”, the statement noted.

The NPP’s acting chairman’s statement continued, “Members who have forfeited their membership are required to submit a formal application to he national secretariat for reinstatement. Upon reinstatement, you shall remain ineligible to contest any internal party election until a mandatory two-year period has elapsed.

This measure reflects the Party’s unwavering commitment to fostering internal cohesion, strengthening solidarity, and preparing collectively for the political tasks ahead”.

The statement further added, “In view of this resolution, Party leadership at all levels is hereby strictly advised to refrain from any arbitrary suspension of members. All disciplinary matter must be handled solely in accordance with the procedures, principles, and due process provisions expressly enshrined in the Party’s constitution. The National Secretariat requests your full compliance with this directive.

We count on your continued cooperation”.

“If you come with arms, we will deal with you” – IGP serves notice ahead of Akwatia by-election

0

The Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Christian Tetteh Yohuno, has served notice that anyone who comes with arms during the Akwatia by-election will be dealt with by the Police.

According to the IGP, the Ghana Police Service is prepared to safeguard voters, electoral officers, political parties, and the media.

Health Minister should be commended, not chastised, for a handshake – MoH PRO

0

Tony Goodman, the Public Relations Officer at the Ministry of Health, has jumped to the defence of the Health Minister, Kwabena Mintah Akandoh.

His comments come after the Ridge Hospital was thrown into confusion after a self-styled social activist, identified as Ralph St.

According to GRNMA, the association will advise itself if immediate action is not taken.

Dr David Tenkorang Twum revealed that about eight men physically attacked the Ridge Hospital nurse, leaving her with injuries.

Speaking to the media, Dr David Tenkorang Twum stated, “If anybody can just walk into a facility, like Ridge Hospital, and throw his weight about, and beat like a midwife, and you have other party apparatchiks telling them to edge on, that is unfortunate. We are not happy at all. Our people are traumatised”.

He added, “We are very civilised people. We are professionals. And we are asking the government to arrest the guy immediately and the eight accomplices; we were told there were about 50 guys that day.

But those who laid their hands on the lady there were about eight, including Ralph himself. And therefore, if he’s not arrested within 48 hours, we shall advise ourselves.”

Dr David Tenkorang Twum added, “And we are all guided by law. In that, if you read section 119, subsection 1, it is stated that if you are a worker and you think that your safety is not guaranteed, your life and your health is not guaranteed, you have every right under the law to remove yourself from that danger.

And our people have told us this morning, after interacting with them, that they are not safe. They feel that their safety has been breached.”

Meanwhile, Kwabena Mintah Akandoh, the Health Minister, has revealed that some persons have been arrested in connection with the alleged assault of some nurses at the Ridge Hospital.

The Health Minister stressed that the issue is now being handled by the Ghana Police Service.

Speaking in an interview on Asempa FM’s Ekosii Sen show, Kwabena Mintah Akandoh stated, “I can tell you that some arrests have been made. Anybody who says otherwise is not speaking the truth and is not ready to help solve the issue,” Mr Akandoh stressed.

The Health Minister, however, when asked if Ralph Saint Williams has also been arrested, stated, “We should leave the police to do their job. I won’t sit down for things to go wayward in my sector. No one is above the laws of this country”.

“The system is running, and as we speak, I’m getting updates. We are on course”, he added.

Questions need to be asked about Ridge Hospital management systems – Policy Analyst

0

Michael Kosi Dedey, an Engineer and Policy Analyst, has said the management system of the Greater Accra Regional Hospital (Ridge) needs to be questioned.

According to the Policy Analyst, the Health Minister, Kwabena Mintah Akandoh, the visit to Ridge Hospital following the assault was needless.

He noted that the Ridge Hospital management should handle the issue with the minister, only providing leadership through policy direction, not personal interventions in incidents.

Speaking on Channel One TV’s Michael Kosi Dedey stated, “What is the minister going to do there? The Minister hasn’t gotten a duty for the day? The hospital authorities should have been able to take care of that situation. For me, again, it points to weak systems.

“Where it takes a minister to go into the hospital to go and do what? These are questions that we need to ask about management systems. That minister should be sitting in his office to assess what has gone wrong.

He added, “Why couldn’t the hospital authorities control [the situation]? He should be looking at policies and guidelines to support the hospitals instead of looking for possible control opportunities.

“This is not leadership. The same minister has been going around fighting the Chief Executives of hospitals. Clearly and consistently, the minister has demonstrated these inefficiencies,” he stated.

His comments come after the Ridge Hospital was thrown into confusion after a self-styled social activist, identified as Ralph St. Williams, stormed the emergency ward and filmed staff while accusing them of delaying treatment for his patient.

In a video that has since gone viral, Ralph is seen with blood on his hands, shouting at doctors and nurses for allegedly ignoring an accident victim he brought in. In a separate interview, Kwabena Mintah Akandoh, the Health Minister, has given a one-week ultimatum to a committee tasked with investigating the assault on nurses and health professionals at Ridge.

Speaking to Journalists after a meeting with the German Corporation for International Cooperation (GIZ) on Tuesday, August 19, Kwabena Mintah Akandoh stated, “I was at the hospital yesterday and interacted with the health workers. One of the reasons I went there was to reassure them of our commitment and encourage them to return to the wards.

“They were demoralised, so I had to assure them of a thorough investigation. After my visit, we constituted a committee to investigate the matter within a week, after which the law will take its course,” he stated.

Meanwhile, the Health Minister has revealed that some persons have been arrested in connection with the alleged assault of some nurses at the Ridge Hospital.

“We are sorry Mr President” – Paul Adom-Otchere renders ‘backhanded’ apology to Mahama over travel issues

0

Right wing political commentator Paul Adom-Otchere has rendered what many say is a sarcastic apology to President John Dramani over the travel struggles faced due to the non-availability of functioning Presidential jet.

The President’s recent trip to Japan as we are made aware was fraught with flight challenges since the presidential jet was grounded at the Dassault Falcon Service facility in Le Bourget, France, for four months due to massive wear and tear issues.

As a result, he flew first class on Emirates Airlines but endured a long layover in Dubai before connecting to Tokyo.

Commenting on the matter on his Good Evening program, Adom-Otchere repeatedly said: “Mr. President, we are sorry. We are really sorry.” His “apology,” however, was laced with criticism of what he called petty politics that has long surrounded the debate over presidential travel.

“Petty, petty politics. Politics that is animated by hatred. That’s why I’m sad today. Because of somebody’s ambition for power, he denigrates a president so much so that another person becomes president and he’s afraid to make a decision in the interest of the president’s safety…”

“…In the interest of the president’s comfort so that he can think, in the interest of the president’s security so that he’s confident to present his case. President of Ghana is sitting at a location in Dubai, 22 hours.”

Paul Adom-Otchere added that the political attacks on President Akufo-Addo’s use of private jets years earlier had created an environment where decisions on presidential travel are now clouded by fear of public backlash, leaving leaders like Mahama exposed to unnecessary risks.

“What kind of security is protected, is provided for him over there? He’s not in the comfort of his Jubilee house where all the security is available. The Ghana armed forces are available. The Ghana police service is available. National security is available. But here, he’s in a location outside his country and he’s not in his own plane. He’s sitting in a location 22 hours. Why? Because of terrible politics.”

“Bad, bad politics. Never again. We should never encourage that again. People encouraged it. Hey, Akufo Ado is bad. Akufo is baffling in the air. He can’t baffle in the air. When Dominic Nitiwu stood before parliament and said that the presidential jet is not fit for purpose and that the president cannot even freshen up in it. Hey!”

He further noted that Ghana is home to wealthy individuals and even members of the Mahama family who own private jets, suggesting that the state could have chartered such an aircraft for the trip without controversy.

According to him, the prolonged wait in Dubai not only inconvenienced the former President but also raised serious security concerns, as the Head of State was left vulnerable outside Ghana’s protected environment.

Adom-Otchere insisted that the issue was not about whether presidents deserve private jets, but about the hypocrisy and double standards in Ghana’s political discourse.

“There is bad news coming; Julius Debrah will replace someone” – Prophet Roja

0

Ghanaian prophet Samuel Henry, commonly known as Prophet Roja, has dropped another doom prophecy about Ghana’s presidency.

Speaking in an interview on Angel TV, Prophet Roja revealed that there is bad news coming, and the Chief of Staff, Julius Debrah, will replace a top official at the Presidency.

According to Prophet Roja, what happened during the late Prof Atta Mills’ time in office will happen again.

He detailed, “There is bad news coming. It is big and black. I don’t want to mention names, but I see a man called Julius Debrah replacing someone else in Ghana. He is going to be used to replace somebody’s chair in Ghana.

Very soon, in 2025, he will be promoted, and he will be used to replace someone else.

Prophet Roja also claimed the Speaker of parliament, Alban Bagbin, will also be replaced by someone for some time.

“The Speaker of Parliament right now, some will be taking over,  I see someone taking his seat for some time”, he confidently claimed.

He added, “The last time I said something like this, something happened during Atta Mills’ time, that is, 2012, and I have seen the same thing repeating itself from 2024; it is on record, you can check on Angel FM platforms.

There is a possibility that what I am saying will happen”.

Prophet Roja’s comments come despite the Presidency’s requesting that all prophecies about the Government be subjected to a review.

In a separate video, Prophet Roja urged the Chief of Staff Julius Debrah to call him, as deep things are about to happen.

Speaking to his congregants, Prophet Roja stated, “Our father, Julius Debrah, of NDC, the Chief of Staff, wherever you are, if you see this message, my name is Prophet Roja. He should call me.

With all due respect, let me hear from you. I have a message for you, there are deep things about to happen, but I will not even say one, he should just call me”, he added.

Meanwhile, Elvis Afriyie Ankrah, the Presidential Envoy on Interfaith and Ecumenical Relations, has revealed that they have received plenty of new prophecies which are undergoing review.

According to Elvis Afriyie Ankrah, who did not wish to mention any number, asserted that the new prophecies will be over 200.

Speaking to the media, Elvis Afriyie Ankrah stated, “We have received plenty, oh my goodness, there is somebody who is a dedicated volunteer. I don’t want to give numbers, but it is plenty, believe me. It should be more than 200. Like I said, I don’t want to play the numbers game”.

He further justified the government’s decision to receive and review prophecies about the nation.

The presidential envoy emphasised that about 70–80% of prophecies have no substance, but the 20 per cent deserved some probe.

Afriyie Ankrah detailed, “By and large, 70–80% is of no substance. Then you look at the rest of the 20% and you sift through, and maybe 2–3–5% may deserve some further probe. It’s not a full-time job or an office set up solely to receive prophecies; that’s not how it works.”

“If you say a Ghana Air Force plane is going to crash, whichever way, it’s a security matter. Those specific ones, we are saying, don’t put it out there in a raw form that will create problems. We’ve created a WhatsApp platform and an email address. Send it to us, and then we will review,” he said.

He further added, “Testing means there is room for review, to assess and evaluate, because some will definitely be chaff. There’s a lot that is completely bogus and will be discarded. But there may be a few that have some substance.”

According to Elvis Afriyie Ankrah, the Presidential Envoy on Interfaith and Ecumenical Relations, it was not set up solely to receive and review prophecies.

He added, “I got my appointment letter about two weeks ago. People didn’t know about the office, so when the statement came out, maybe some thought an office had been set up solely to collect prophecies. That’s why you saw all those memes. But the office is meant to coordinate with all religious bodies, Christian, Muslim, and others, to help foster unity and oneness in the country.”

He further emphasised the importance of his work, adding that religion plays a dominant role in Ghanaian life.

“If you look at the last population census, the religious community constitutes over 90% of the population. They are critical in society. Governance is about protecting and advancing the interests of citizens, and faith is part of our social reality”.

Arrests made in Ridge Hospital assault – Health Minister reveals

0

Kwabena Mintah Akandoh, the Health Minister, has revealed that some persons have been arrested in connection with the alleged assault of some nurses at the Ridge Hospital.

BOMB – COCOBOD CEO exposed for allegedly ordering directors to stay home with pay, replacing them with NDC members

0

Fiifi Boafo, the former Head of Public Affairs at the Ghana Cocoa Board (COCOBOD), has exposed the Acting Chief Executive of COCOBOD, Dr Randy Abbey, for ordering COCOBOD directors to stay home with pay.

Also, Dr Randy Abbey, the Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana Cocoa Board (COCOBOD), has revealed that COCOBOD is drowning in a GH¢33 billion debt.

According to Randy Abbey, the state cocoa regulator is constantly under pressure from creditors, agrochemical suppliers, banks, and legal entities.

Speaking on Joy News on Thursday, June 5, Dr Abbey detailed, The last time I checked, that debt was close to GH¢33 billion”.

“I have to redo it now because the dollar components might go down as a result of the strength of the Cedi now. But that is the situation”, he added.

Randy Abbey further lamented, “Every day, I’m dealing with either solicitor letters or court issues. And it’s about people that we owe. We’ve owed people for four years, for three years, for two years, for a year.”

He further revealed that creditors are constantly on his neck with frequent visits to COCOBOD headquarters in search of payment.

“I’m sure that when you got here, you waited for about an hour. All those you saw leaving my office were companies that we owed. And the banks are chasing them. And they have also come here to chase us.”

“The spirit of Ernest Kumi will not rest until his seat is retained!” – Salam Mustapha

0

Salam Mustapha, the National Youth Organiser of the New Patriotic Party, has boldly declared that the spirit of the late Akwatia Ernest Kumi will not rest until the NPP retains his seat.

The NPP National Youth Organiser on UTV Ghana is quoted to have stated, “The spirit of Ernest Kumi will not rest until his seat is retained!”.

Salam Mustapha, in a separate interview, has also alleged that the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) are likely to bring thugs to the Akwatia by-election.

Salam Mustapha doubt the NDC’s ability to contest the Akwatia by-election fairly and transparently.

In addition, Henry Nana Boakye, the National Organiser of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), also known as Nana B, has revealed the party will protect itself in the upcoming Akwatia by-election on Tuesday, September 2.

Meanwhile, the Electoral Commission has announced that the printing of ballot papers for the upcoming Akwatia parliamentary by-election will begin today, Wednesday, August 20.

Benjamin Bano-Bioh, the Commission’s Director of Electoral Services, speaking to journalists, stated, “As of now, we are going to start the printing of ballots from tomorrow”.

“Procurement has already been done. We have procured all the materials required for the election, so we are already”, he added.

He made this announcement after the Inspector-General of Police (IGP) assembled a crucial meeting today with representatives of political parties.

The meeting was to discuss preventive measures against election-related violence and key security arrangements for the upcoming poll.

In addition, Bernard Bediako, the National Democratic Congress (NDC) Parliamentary Candidate for Akwatia, has said the party is well-positioned to secure an Akwatia by-election victory.

The NDC Parliamentary Candidate for Akwatia expressed confidence in winning the September 2, 2025, by-election.

Speaking to the media in Akwatia on Sunday, August 17, Bernard Bediako stated, “We are moving through the towns and communities to spread our message. Today is a market day in Akwatia, and fortunately, our party office is close to the market.

We are starting there to engage the people and help them understand the need to vote for me and the NDC so that together we can drive development in Akwatia,” he added.

However, the New Patriotic Party (NPP), over the weekend, staged a Unity Walk in Akwatia.

The NPP Unity Walk in Akwatia drew thousands of supporters and was led by the party’s Eastern Regional Chairman, Jeff Konadu Addo, and other regional executives.

Salam Mustapha, the NPP’s National Youth Organiser, constituency executives, polling agents, and grassroots members also took part in the walk.

U.S. rejection of IMO’s net-zero framework: Implications for Ghana and developing maritime states

0

On August 12, 2025, the United States government formally rejected the International Maritime Organization’s (IMO) Net-Zero Framework, a landmark proposal aimed at steering the global shipping industry toward full decarbonization by mid-century.

The U.S. position, which framed the framework as a “global carbon tax on Americans,” was accompanied by a warning of possible retaliatory measures against states that support the initiative.

This development has injected fresh uncertainty into the IMO process and raised profound questions for developing maritime nations, particularly countries like Ghana whose economic lifelines are tightly bound to international shipping.

Shipping accounts for nearly 3% of global greenhouse gas emissions, and the IMO has long been under pressure to align its regulatory regime with the Paris Agreement’s climate objectives.

The Net-Zero Framework was intended to provide a binding pathway, combining emission reduction targets, market-based measures, and a proposed Net-Zero Fund to support capacity building in developing states.

While the European Union, small Island developing states, and climate-vulnerable nations have welcomed the framework, Washington’s rejection represents more than policy divergence.

It signifies a fracture in global maritime governance, with the potential to stall momentum on collective action.

Implications for Developing States Like Ghana

First of all, the U.S. has suggested that it may impose economic countermeasures on countries supporting the framework. For Ghana, whose seaborne trade with the U.S. includes cocoa, oil, and manufactured goods, such retaliation could manifest as tariffs, shipping restrictions, or regulatory hurdles.

This would have direct consequences for Ghanaian exporters and port operators.

In addition, the Net-Zero Framework envisaged a financial mechanism to assist developing countries in upgrading ports, modernizing fleets, and adopting low-emission technologies. U.S. opposition threatens the viability of this fund, delaying Ghana’s ability to secure financing for critical maritime infrastructure and capacity-building initiatives.

Ghana now faces a strategic dilemma. Full alignment with the framework risks straining bilateral relations with Washington, while outright opposition would undermine Ghana’s credibility as a responsible IMO member committed to sustainability.

The challenge is to navigate this tension without sacrificing either national interests or international reputation.

What Ghana Should Do

Firstly, Ghana must pursue Balanced Diplomacy. Ghana should maintain its support for global decarbonization, but frame its position in terms of equity and developmental fairness.

By advocating for “common but differentiated responsibilities,” Ghana can highlight its commitment to climate action while recognizing its limited capacity as a developing nation.

Secondly, through the African Union and African Group at IMO, Ghana can push for collective bargaining power. Regional solidarity ensures that no single African state bears the brunt of external pressure and helps amplify calls for climate finance and transitional support.

Furthermore, rather than adopting a confrontational posture, Ghana should engage U.S.  counterparts through its diplomatic missions, clarifying that its support for the framework is consistent with global sustainability objectives.

Bilateral maritime dialogues could help soften U.S. concerns and avoid Ghana being targeted by punitive measures.

Another important point is that Ghana must leverage its Multilateral Channels by continuing to work with neutral and technical bodies within the IMO, such as the Marine Environment Protection Committee, to emphasize the practical benefits of decarbonization—improved port competitiveness, reduced fuel costs, and resilience to climate impacts.

Conclusion

The U.S. rejection of the IMO’s Net-Zero Framework signals a turbulent phase in the governance of global shipping. For Ghana and other developing maritime states, the challenge is not only environmental but also diplomatic and economic.

Ghana’s path forward lies in strategic balancing: reaffirming its commitment to sustainable shipping, safeguarding trade relations, and securing a fair share of climate finance.

By adopting a proactive, pragmatic, and diplomatic approach, Ghana can ensure it remains a credible voice at the IMO while protecting its vital national interests.

UK court threatens Kevin Okyere with an arrest warrant over a $94m fraud case

0

A UK court has threatened Ghanaian businessman Kevin Okyere with an arrest warrant over a $94 million fraud case involving Springfield Exploration & Production Ltd.

The case links to a Swiss firm’s petition alleging economic crimes, with Okyere yet to respond.

Mr Okyere, who is currently in Ghana, was summoned by Westminster Magistrates’ Court, located at 181 Marylebone Road, London, and sternly warned that failure to attend could result in proceedings continuing in his absence or in a warrant being issued for his arrest, with the possibility of being remanded in custody until brought before the court.

The charges relate to an alleged fraud of USD 29,321,064.51 (Twenty-Nine Million, Three Hundred and Twenty-One Thousand, Sixty-Four Dollars and Fifty-One Cents) involving a cargo of gasoline supplied by EDURC Company DMCC and discharged at Tema, Ghana, on September 5, 2024.

The summoned, intercepted by The Herald, had UK Prosecutors alleging that between July 2024 and June 2025, Mr Okyere dishonestly represented that he would pay the stated amount within 30 days, knowing this to be untrue, in order to make a personal gain.

According to the summons, dated 13 August 2025, Mr Okyere’s UK address was traced to 14 St John’s Wood Road, London NW8 BRE.

The matter, filed under case number 012500503129, identified Petraco Oil Company SA, represented by Bracewell (UK) LLP of Tower 42, 25 Old Broad Street, London, EC2N 1HQ, as the complainant.

The court has scheduled the hearing for 3 September 2025 at 10:05 a.m. at Westminster Magistrates’ Court, with Mr Okyere instructed to report at least 30 minutes prior to the listing time.

The notice reiterated that attendance is mandatory and that non-compliance may trigger an arrest warrant.

According to the charge sheet, the alleged conduct constitutes offences under Sections 1 and 2 of the Fraud Act 2006, which criminalise making false representations for personal gain or to cause loss to another.

The court notice states:  “The court will hear the case on 3 September 2025 at 10:05 am at Westminster Magistrates’ Court, 181 Marylebone Road, London, NW1 5BR (telephone 0300 303 0645). Attendance: You must attend the court 30 minutes before the time shown above. A listing time is not a guaranteed hearing time. You may be required to wait. Warning: If you do not attend, the court may deal with the case in your absence or may issue a warrant for your arrest (and you may be held in custody until you are brought before the court).”

The charges, under Sections 1 and 2 of the UK Fraud Act 2006, allege that between 1 July 2024 and 1 June 2025, Mr Okyere dishonestly made a false representation that he would pay USD 29,321,064.51 for the gasoline cargo within 30 days, “knowing this to be untrue and intending to make a gain for himself.”

Fraud under the Act carries a penalty of up to 10 years’ imprisonment, a fine, or both.

Court ‘throws out’ K.T. Hammond’s election petition, fines him ¢60k for time-wasting

0

The Obuasi High Court has thrown out the election petition filed by the former Member of Parliament for Adansi Asokwa, Kobina Tahiru Hammond, challenging the 2024 parliamentary victory of Godwin Animli Dorgbadzi Dorani.

On Tuesday, August 19, 2025, the court imposed a fine of ¢60,000 on K. T. Hammond for wasting their time with his petition.

The case was presided over by Justice Kwabena Twumasi.

K.T. Hammond lost the Adansi Asokwa seat to Dorani by 954 votes and filed a case against Godwin Animli Dorgbadzi Dorani after he was not pleased with the outcome of the election.

The former Trade and Industry Minister, Kobina Tahiru Hammond, shockingly, on three occasions failed to appear before the court.

The court on August 19, 2025, proceeded with its ruling.

Richard Andy, the lawyer for the incumbent MP, speaking to some journalists, revealed that K.T. Hammond had no legal basis.

Meanwhile, Kobina Tahir Hammond, after his election defeat, expressed deep concerns about his constituents.

K.T. Hammond recounted that his constituents on the voting day wanted money from him before they went and cast their votes.

Speaking on Adom TV, KT Hammond expressed his unhappiness with the voters in his constituency. He detailed, “The places where cars could not go, I was walking there, even places during my youth days where I was not going this time, I walked there and made sure we covered everywhere”.

“The day came for us to vote people were just standing there, they were saying they would not vote because they wanted money, I was like look at your Astroturf, look at your schools, look at your water, look at your roads, what will even make you cry is that one place that we created a road for the chief and the people that area they did not even vote”, he added.

KT Hammond further added, “There are so many sad things, if we voted and the NDC beat me comprehensively I would be like KT and they have beaten me like that, 2020 they got like 13,000 and we hit 18,000 so you expect that if they beat me the numbers should be added to theirs for it to be 19,000, the NDC still had their 14,000, our 18,000 dropped to 13,000, the NPP did not vote”.

“I have heard most of my colleagues have lost their seats as well, the NDC did not beat us, the NPP supporters decided not to vote, so they should take it”, he emphasised.

In a separate interview, K.T. Hammond accused his constituents of deception.

According to him, during the campaign period, when he visited some communities, his constituents promised to vote for him massively, but it turned out to be false.

He stated, “In certain places I went to and what I knew of the places, in fact, they were places that I had done so much that when I went round campaigning, they said that, I now think that there was an irony in what they said. They said, “We will vote for you as a thank you. God bless you, we will vote to say thank you. And they didn’t vote”.

KT Hammond lost to the National Democratic Congress (NDC) candidate Godwin Animli Dorgbadzi-Dorani.

The NDC candidate secured 14,229 of the valid votes cast while KT Hammond secured 13,275 votes.

GRNMA calls for the arrest of Ralph, others fair – Health Minister

0

Kwabena Mintah Akandoh, the Health Minister, has said the Ghana Registered Nurses and Midwives Association (GRNMA) calls for the Ralph Saint Williams and others who assaulted a nurse at Ridge Hospital to be fair.

The Health Minister noted that assault is a crime and that the law must take its course if there is an assault.

Speaking on JoyNEWS, Kwabena Mintah Akandoh narrated the viral video of him exchanging pleasantries with Ralph Saint Williams after the chaos at the Ridge Hospital.

He recounted, “When I visited the place, after the closed-door meeting, and I was walking into my car, he pulled up in a black saloon car, so he got out of the car and came towards me and the medical superintendent at the Ridge Hospital, so he stretched up his hand to greet us, and we exchanged pleasantries.

At that particular moment, we didn’t talk further, and so later we had to invite him to listen to his side of the story”.

When asked about the GRMNA demands for Ralph and others to be arrested,  the Health minister added, “It is fair, and I made that call after my visit to the media. I have insisted that the law must take its own course. So, if there is an assault, it is a crime unless you tell me otherwise”.

The Ridge Hospital was thrown into confusion after a self-styled social activist, identified as Ralph St. Williams, stormed the emergency ward and filmed staff while accusing them of delaying treatment for his patient.

“We have full confidence in the state security” – NDC on the Akwatia by-election

0

Rashid Sofo Tanko-Computer, the Deputy Director of Elections and IT for the NDC, has said the party has full confidence in the state security ahead of the Akwatia by-election.

According to Rashid Sofo Tanko-Computer, the NDC is satisfied with the security briefing it received from the police.

He added that the NDC has no plans to deploy its own protections.

Speaking in an interview on the Channel One Newsroom, Tanko-Computer stated, “We have full confidence in the state security. We were with them at the Kumawu by-election, we were with them at the Assin North by-election, and we saw what happened at Ablekuma North.

“We are satisfied with the briefing that the security gave us today. The setup they put out there clearly shows that they want to protect lives and property at Akwatia.”

He added, “My brothers and sisters in the NPP must be clear to themselves — it takes two to tango. When you have a predetermined mind that ‘I am coming to do so and so,’ then expect a reprisal from your action.”

However, Henry Nana Boakye, the National Organiser of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), also known as Nana B, has revealed the NPP will protect itself in the upcoming Akwatia by-election on Tuesday, September 2.

Also, Salam Mustapha, the National Youth Organiser of the New Patriotic Party, has alleged that the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) are likely to bring thugs to the Akwatia by-election.

Salam Mustapha doubt the NDC’s ability to contest the Akwatia by-election in a fair and transparent manner.

He further added that the NPP is, however, committed to cooperating with the Ghana Police Service during the by-election.

FBI has not cleared Cecilia Dapaah – OSP debunks media reports

0

The Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP) has debunked media reports circulating about the former Minister for Sanitation, Cecilia Abena Dapaah.

According to the OSP, their attention has been drawn to media reports suggesting the FBI did not find any evidence of corruption on the former minister, while other reports claimed the FBI has cleared her.

The OSP, in a statement, confidently emphasised that the media reports are inaccurate and a mischievous misrepresentation of the OSP’s Half-Yearly Report.

In a statement released on the OSP official social media page on X, read, “The attention of the Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP) has been drawn to misleading reports on the findings regarding investigations involving Ms. Cecilia Abena Dapaah. Certain media outlets reported that the FBI “found no evidence of corruption,” while others claimed the FBI “found no direct evidence of corruption.” Some have gone further to publish that the FBI has cleared Cecilia Dapaah.

These reports are inaccurate and a mischievous misrepresentation of the OSP’s Half-Yearly Report (page 9, bullet 2.26). The findings were the result of investigations conducted by the OSP and a parallel aspect by the FBI at the instance of the OSP”.

The OSP statement added, “The report clearly indicated that no direct and immediate evidence of corruption was found, a carefully defined legal standard that is materially different from the blanket phrases ‘ no evidence’ and ‘has been cleared.

The OSP further emphasises that the case was referred to the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) under the previous leadership of EOCC because investigations uncovered strong indications of suspected money laundering and structuring, which fall within EOCO’s direct mandate. The previous leadership of EOCO did not act on it and returned the docket to the OSP.

The OSP returned the docket to EOCO upon a request by the new leadership”.

The Office of the Special Prosecutor further urged the media outlets to report with precision and ensure accurate, fair and responsible reporting.

“The OSP urges all media outlets to report with precision and fidelity to the text of official documents to ensure accurate, fair, and responsible public communication on matters of high national interest”, the statement concluded.

Meanwhile, the last we heard of the Cecilia Dapaah case until yesterday, August 19, was that the Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP) revealed that the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) has requested a copy of Cecilia Dapaah’s docket.

According to the Office of the Special Prosecutor, they have officially returned the docket on the Cecilia Dapaah case to EOCO following a formal request from EOCO’s new leadership.

The OSP noted that EOCO required the return of the docket for review and possible action.

The special prosecutor revealed that on May 29, 2025, the OSP forwarded a duplicate docket to EOCO and pledged its full cooperation in EOCO’s investigation into suspected money laundering and financial structuring.

“It is our considered opinion that the docket serves as a valuable background resource for EOCO to commence its investigation in respect of aspects of the case; the OSP does not have a direct mandate,” the OSP stated.

In July 2023, the Office of the Special Prosecutor initiated an investigation into the suspected corruption and corruption-related offences regarding the huge sums of money at the home of former Minister for Sanitation and Water Resources, Cecilia Abena Dapaah and her associates.

The OSP teaming up with the U.S. Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) yielded no direct evidence of corruption.

However, the OSP revealed it had uncovered strong indicators of suspected money laundering, but EOCO declined to take the case, citing that the OSP had not established a predicate offence.

In addition, the office of the Special Prosecutor, some months ago, made another revelation regarding the former Sanitation Minister, Cecilia Dapaah’s dead brother.

According to a new development, the dead brother of Cecilia Dapaah’s bank account is still active and keeps transferring money to her.

This follows an attempt by OSP to seize millions of cash from the former Minister and order the freezing of some bank accounts with over ¢40 million transactions.

The Office of the Special Prosecutor case was not successful despite Madam Dapaah stepping down from her role as minister, with her source of wealth being questioned.

“We will protect ourselves” – Nana B on Akwatia by-election

0

Henry Nana Boakye, the National Organiser of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) also known as Nana B, has revealed the party will protect itself in the upcoming Akwatia by-election on Tuesday, September 2.

The announcement of the by-election follows the death of Dr Ibrahim Murtala Muhammed, the member of parliament for the area.

The late Dr Ibrahim Murtala Muhammed died in the August 6 helicopter crash that claimed the lives of eight Ghanaians.

The Electoral Commission, in a statement signed by the EC Chairperson, Madam Jean Mensa stated, “The Electoral Commission wishes to announce for the information of the General Public that, following the unfortunate death of the Member of Parliament for the Tamale Central Constituency; Hon. Meanwhile, the NPP has decided not to contest the Tamale Central following a National Steering Committee meeting held on Monday, August 11, 2025.

The NPP asserts that they believe it would be inhumane and unconscionable to subject the nation to a competitive process in search of a replacement for the late Dr. Ibrahim Murtala Muhammed.

In a statement signed by Justin Kodua, the NPP General Secretary, on August 11, 2025, read, “The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has resolved that it would not take part in the Tamale Central Parliamentary by-election to elect a replacement for the late Alhaji Hon. Dr Murtala Mohammed, Member of Parliament (MP) for the Constituency, who was among the ecight (8) who lost their lives in service of the Republic in the helicopter crash that occurred on Wednesday, August 6, 2025.

The statement added, “In arriving at the decision, the Party considered many factors, including the circumstances under which the Tamale Central seat has become vacant and the possibility of a further polarisation of the country at this critical time.

The NPP is of the belief that it would be inhumane and unconscionable to subject the nation to a competitive process in search of a replacement for the departed MP. The Party believes that the tension and acrimony often associated with the conduct of by-elections in the country should be avoided”.

The NPP statement continued, “It is the considered view of the Party that the greatest tribute that the NPP and the rest of the nation can pay in honour of the departed is not only to win the fight against Galamsey but also to ensure a smooth and peaceful replacement for the good people of Tamale Central.

Also, the National Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Johnson Asiedu Nketia, has thanked the New Patriotic Party (NPP) for opting out of the Tamale Central by-election.

Speaking during the engagement, Asideu Nketia stated, “I want to use this opportunity to thank you. I have heard that Tamale Central. You have issued a statement that when the time comes, you will not partake. We thank you”.

He added, “If someone beats you for you to go to private, it is better for you to go by yourself, that will be simple. So we thank you, but Akwatia, we are coming”.

Posthumous promotions will mean little if gov’t fails galamsey fight – Afenyo-Markin

0

Alexander Afenyo-Markin, the Minority Leader in Parliament and Member of Parliament for Effutu, has said President John Dramani Mahama’s promotion of the three Ghana Air Force personnel will be meaningless if the government fails to fight galamsey.

John Mahama promoted the three Ghana Armed Forces personnel who perished in the August 6 helicopter crash.

John Mahama described the fallen servicemen as true patriots who paid the ultimate price in the line of duty.

Speaking at the state funeral held in their honour on Friday, John Mahama stated, “Accordingly, I have approved the following. Squadron Leader Peter Bufami Anala is promoted to the rank of Wing Commander. Flying Officer Manaen Twum Ampadu is promoted to the rank of Flight Lieutenant. Sergeant Ernest Addo is promoted to the rank of Flight Sergeant.

These are not just symbolic gestures. They represent the rightful place these officers have earned in our republic’s role of honour”, President Mehama revealed.

Speaking at the Grand Durbar Homecoming and Handing-Over Ceremony of the Asante Students Union at the University of Ghana on August 17 stated, “Posthumous honours, while deserving, does not finish what they started. These eight died in an effort to fight galamsey. Their sacrifices demand that we finally win this matter against illegal mining.

“The Mahama administration must act with fierce urgency, not just for the environment but to honour the eight people who paid the ultimate price. With every day of delay, weak response, every compromise with illegal miners betrays their sacrifice,” he added.

In addition, the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, has revealed that President John Dramani Mahama will lead a very ruthless and relentless fight against galamsey.

Ablakwa reaffirmed that Ghana is going to see John Mahama lead the charge to stop the existential threat of illegal mining confronting Ghanaians.

Speaking to journalists on Thursday, August 14, Mr Ablakwa stated, “I can confirm to you that you are going to see a fight that has never been witnessed before in this country. President Mahama is going to lead a very ruthless and relentless fight against galamsey.

He didn’t mince his words. We had a brief cabinet meeting, and the President was very clear that he would lead a war we have never seen before to stop this existential threat confronting us,” he stated.

Also, Paa Kwesi Schandorf, the Media Relations Officer at the Ministry of Lands and Natural Resources, has hinted at a possible repeal of LI 2462.

Speaking on NewsFile on Saturday, August 16, Paa Kwesi Schandorf said, “I could say authoritatively now here is that there’s a renewed conversation on L1 2462, and in the not too distant future, there would be an appropriate communication in that particular respect where the repeal is concerned.

That conversation has been had, indeed, there was a crunch Cabinet meeting that exhausted that possibility, and so the final outcome will be communicated very soon”.

Meanwhile, Kwame Pianim, a renowned statesman and New Patriotic Party (NPP) elder, has quizzed the critics of the John Mahama-led government, berating them for their failure to tackle illegal mining commonly known as galamsey.

He noted that the NDC government is barely eight months into its four-year term, and the criticism levelled against them so far in their fight against galamsey is unfair.

According to him, former president Akufo-Addo was in power for 8 years, and what did the NPP do in their fight against galamsey?

Speaking in an interview with TV3 on August 14, 2025, Kwame Pianim stated, “Look, the president has arrived barely eight months. Who am I to judge him?”

“My party, Akufo-Addo’s government, was in power for eight years. What did we do about it? So, it’s not the time for allocating blame. There’s time for facing our responsibilities seriously as Ghanaians,” he added.

Also, Ogyeahohoo Yaw Gyebi II, the President of the National House of Chiefs, has said the media must name and shame chiefs and politicians involved in galamsey.

According to Ogyeahohoo Yaw Gyebi, political interference has severely undermined national efforts to halt illegal mining.

He noted that when the New Patriotic Party (NPP) were in power, Jubilee House was being blamed for galamsey today, the National Democratic Congress (NDC), yet still Jubilee House is being blamed.

Addressing the issue, Ogyeahohoo Yaw Gyebi stated, “This forest was created in 1929, and even the local people were not allowed there to collect snails there, but now we are giving it out for people to go and do illegal and irresponsible mining.

During the NPP time, we were all blaming Jubilee House. During the NDC time, we are still blaming Jubliee House; they are involved, let’s speak up because it affects us. Now the price of bottled water is rising because in the village, they don’t get stream water to drink again”, he added.

Ogyeahohoo Yaw Gyebi boldly stressed, “If we are serious about ending galamsey, we must name and shame every individual involved, whether a chief or a politician. There should be no sacred cows”.

“I will never forgive TV3 for their sins ” – NPP’s Vice Chairman

0

Alhaji Osman Masawudu, the National Vice Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), has boldly stated he will never forgive Media General TV3.

He accused TV3 of having evil plans and a diabolical agenda against the NPP.

Alhaji Osman Masawudu narrated how Johnson Asiedu Nketiah, the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC), stopped him from pushing away TV3’s microphone at the NDC headquarters.

According to Alhaji Osman Masawudu, Asiedu Nketiah told him, he was at the NDC headquarters, so he could not push away the TV3 microphone.

Speaking in an interview on Original TV, Alhaji Osman Masawudu stated, “At the NDC headquarters, I nearly pushed TV3’s microphone, but Asiedu Nketia told me this was the NDC headquarters, so I couldn’t do that. I told Asiedu Nketia we are not going to speak into the TV3 microphone.

I didn’t speak because of them. I said I won’t talk”.

“So, I told them I wouldn’t speak into the microphone, and they had to beg me. For TV3, I will never forgive them for their sins till I die,” he said.

He added, “The entire NPP has no business with TV3 unless their leaders see the sins they have committed and come to plead for forgiveness.

Currently, TV3 with these evil plans and a diabolical mind, we will not have any business with TV3”, he boldly reaffirmed.

It will be recalled that the New Patriotic Party (NPP) has withdrawn from all Media General’s platforms, including TV3, 3 FM, and Onua FM.

The party’s communications director, Richard Ahiagbah, communicated through a press release issued on January 26, made this known.

According to the NPP, this follows months of supposed failed attempts to address concerns over biased and unprofessional conduct by Media General hosts and management.

Alhaji Masawudu Osman, some months ago, pushed TV3’s microphone.

He noted that Media General has been unfair to the NPP, and they should stay in their corner, and the NPP should do their own thing.

He asserted that he deliberately pushed the TV3 microphone down to signal the party’s disinterest in engaging with them.

Speaking in an interview with Kumasi-based Ashh FM, Alhaji Osman Masawudu strongly defended his actions, “It’s not the case that my hand accidentally hit the microphone to the floor. I intentionally pushed it to the floor.

I was the one who pushed it to the floor because we do not need them at our programme. The way they [Media General] have been unfair to us—they should stay in their corner and allow us to do our thing. They shouldn’t come to any of our events”, he added.

He further warned NPP part communicator not to appear on any Media General platform, “As I am talking now, if any communicator from the NPP appears on their platform, we are going to suspend that communicator.”

In another interview, Alhaji Osman Masawudu served notice to Media General’s TV3, stating the NPP as a whole has no business with TV3.

Speaking in a video sighted, Alhaji Osman Masawudu, stated, “Anytime when TV3 come to our program, we will not even allow them to put their mic, we will take their mic out because we and TV3 have no business.

The party, not me, the party as a whole, the party that has granted me the opportunity to be the National third vice chairman of the party, has no business with TV3, and I am telling you today.

Even if a communicator from the New Patriotic Party appears on a TV3 platform, that communicator has to be suspended”, he added.

EC to begin printing ballot papers for Akwatia by-election on August 20

0

“Procurement has already been done. We have procured all the materials required for the election, so we are already”, he added.

He made this announcement after the Inspector-General of Police (IGP) assembled a crucial meeting today with representatives of political parties.

The meeting was to discuss preventive measures against election-related violence and key security arrangements for the upcoming poll.

The Electoral Commission (EC) has officially scheduled Tuesday, September 2, 2025, for the by-election in the Akwatia Constituency.

This follows the passing of Member of Parliament, Ernest Kumi.

Meanwhile, Bernard Bediako, the National Democratic Congress (NDC) Parliamentary Candidate for Akwatia, has said the party is well-positioned to secure an Akwatia by-election victory.

In addition, the Deputy Elections Director for the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Rashid Tanko-Computer, has revealed that the late Dr Omane Boamah designed a strategy for the NDC ahead of the Akwatia by-election before the tragic helicopter crash.

Speaking on the sidelines of the state funeral, Tanko-Computer stated, “Such a person who was passionate about winning that by-election, it will be in the right place for us to go and win that election in his glory to let him know that what he wanted we have achieved it for him”.

Tanko-Computer added, “Already we were going in for the election because we believed that election was rigged by our opponents, and we were contesting it in court to the extent that the member who we were contesting died midway so naturally, we have to go back and activate our processes that is why we elected our parliamentary candidate before the crash came in.

We are saying that Omane designed the strategy for us in the morning before the crash, so we have to execute it and make sure that it comes to pass,” he said.

GRNMA issues 48-hour ultimatum to gov’t to arrest Ralph Saint Williams and others

0

Dr. David Tenkorang Twum, the Ghana Registered Nurses and Midwives Association (GRNMA) General Secretary, has revealed, the nursing association has given the government a 48-hour ultimatum to government to arrest Ralph Saint Williams and others who assaulted a nurse at Ridge Hospital.

The hospital strongly condemned the assault on its staff, calling it “unacceptable behavior that puts both patients and clinicians at risk.” It further urged the public to respect hospital procedures to ensure that all patients, especially those in critical condition, can be treated safely and efficiently.

Meanwhile, Kwabena Mintah Akandoh, the Health Minister, has given a week ultimatum to a committee tasked with investigating the assault on nurses and health professionals at Ridge.

NDC’s Yamin and Abanga must be arrested over their alleged connection in galamsey – Ashigbey

0

Dr Kenneth Ashigbey, the convenor of the Anti-Galamsey Coalition, has said the National Democratic Congress (NDC) National Organiser, Joseph Yamin, and the party’s National Vice Chairman, Yakubu Abanga, over their alleged connection in illegal mining.

Dr Ashigbey noted that the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) has failed to apprehend the two NDC executives despite the directives from the Attorney-General and Minister.

Speaking in an interview on Channel One TV’s The Point of View on Monday, August 18, Dr Ashigbey stated, “The NDC’s National Organiser, National Vice Chairman, have been pointed out by the AG to investigate them. Unfortunately, EOCO, we have not heard anything from you. Just as they did to Akonta Mining [Chairman Wontumi], they should arrest these two gentlemen and conduct the investigations”.

“We don’t see what is happening to Akonta Mining; he and his other director should be dragged to court,” he stated.

He further called on the government to declare a state of emergency in communities in heavily impacted areas.

He added, “We need to deal with this as a national security crisis, and it ought to be dealt with. Another thing we have been talking about is the state of emergency; we’re not saying state of emergency in the whole of the country, not even the whole of the district. This particular community, this thing is happening, declare a state of emergency,” he stressed.

“Offin River in Dunkwa, for example, you can declare a state of emergency and say nobody should go into that water, so that you give special powers to the police, Forestry Commission to be able to deal with these people [galamseyers].”

In addition, Alexander Afenyo-Markin, the Minority Leader in Parliament and Member of Parliament for Effutu, has said President John Dramani Mahama’s promotion of the three Ghana Air Force personnel will be meaningless if the government fails to fight galamsey.

“Academic titles must be earned, not purchased” – UTAG backs GTEC

0

University Teachers Association of Ghana (UTAG) has backed the Ghana Tertiary Education Commission’s (GTEC ) efforts to regulate the growing development of individuals flaunting honorary doctorate degrees and fraudulent academic certificates.

According to UTAG, Academic titles must be earned, not purchased.

UTAG, in a press release, expressed concern about the abuse and misrepresentation of such titles.

UTAG statement stated, “Academic titles must be earned, not purchased, and their use must reflect the high standards of scholarship and service they represent”.

“UTAG fully supports the Ghana Tertiary Education Commission (GTEC) in its efforts to regulate, monitor, and, where necessary, sanction individuals and organisations involved in the proliferation and misuse of fake academic titles,” the statement added.

UTAG press release follows the ongoing dispute between the Ghana Tertiary Education Commission (GTEC) and Dr Grace Ayensu-Danquah.

GTEC warned Dr Grace Ayensu-Danquah against presenting herself as a professor.

According to GTEC, Dr Grace Ayensu-Danquah, despite her claims, was never appointed as an Assistant Professor of Surgery by the University of Utah in the United States.

GTEC, in a letter addressed to the Chief of Staff at the Presidency, requested Dr Ayensu-Danquah to provide documentary proof of her professorial appointment by August 11, 2025.

According to the deputy minister legal team responded and insisted she was an Assistant Professor of Surgery at the University of Utah in the United States.

The Ghana Tertiary Education Commission further revealed that documents submitted by Dr Grace Ayensu-Danquah’s legal team were inconsistent.

GTEC added that a letter from the University of Utah, signed by Prof. W. Bradford Rockwell, Vice Chair for Academic Affairs in the Department of Surgery, clarified that Dr. Ayensu-Danquah was appointed as an Adjunct Assistant Professor and not Assistant Professor.

According to GTEC, the role of Adjunct Assistant Professor is a non-tenure track position which equates to a part-time lecturer under Ghana’s academic framework and not a senior lecturer, and certainly not a professor.

GTEC letter boldly stated, “Based on the above, the Commission concludes that Dr Grace Ayensu-Danquah does not hold the title of Professor in any capacity”.

They further warn the deputy of presenting herself as a professor otherwise, legal action on grounds of public deception will be initiated against her.

In addition, GTEC has also warned the Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana Investment Fund for Electronic Communication (GIFEC), Sofo Rashid Tanko-Computer, to cease using the doctor title.

Tanko-Computer had maintained he acquired a PhD from Kingsnow University in 2016, but GTEC, in a letter on June 3, 2025, stated the degree was unearned.

He was ordered to stop using the title Doctor. GTEC further requested Tanko-Computer to take off the Doctor title from platforms, such as official documents, institutional profiles, websites, letterheads, and any other public or professional representations.

Also, Hassan Ayariga, the Presidential Candidate of the All People’s Congress (APC), was directed to stop using the academic title “Dr” after he failed to provide evidence verifying the legitimacy of the designation.

In a statement issued on Tuesday, July 15, the Commission stated, “To date, the Commission has not received any response from you. This continued silence is unacceptable”.

“For the avoidance of doubt, the Commission hereby formally expresses its concern regarding the use of academic titles that have not been duly earned and conferred through a recognised academic process.

“The use of such titles, particularly when lacking formal academic validation, is misleading and inconsistent with the academic protocols and standards governing the conferment and use of academic ranks in Ghana,” GTEC stated.

Meanwhile, on May 30, 2025, the Ghana Tertiary Education Commission warned against the abuse of titles like  Doctor and Professor by people without documented credentials.

Chiefs and politicians involved in galamsey must be named and shamed – Ogyeahohoo II

0

Ogyeahohoo Yaw Gyebi II, the President of the National House of Chiefs, has said the media must name and shame chiefs and politicians involved in galamsey.

Ogyeahohoo Yaw Gyebi boldly stressed, “If we are serious about ending galamsey, we must name and shame every individual involved, whether a chief or a politician. There should be no sacred cows”.

Also, the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, has revealed that President John Dramani Mahama will lead a very ruthless and relentless fight against galamsey.

“Slash and burn politics can put the lives of all Ghanaians at risk” – Adutwum warns

0

Dr Yaw Osei Adutwum, the former Minister of Education, has warned that the slash-and-burn politics in Ghana can put the lives of all Ghanaians at risk.

Adutwum was sharing his opinion on the recent military helicopter tragedy on August 6 that claimed the lives of eight Ghanaians when he made those remarks.

He blamed the NDC for the Akufo-Addo government’s failure to sufficiently retool the Ghana Air Force.

Speaking in an interview on Nhyira FM’s Kuro Yi Mu Nsem, Adutwum stated, “I have boarded the Air Force helicopter several times, and I never felt it could even crash because of the experienced and disciplined pilots and its smooth ride. I am still in a state of shock”.

“When Nana Addo decided to buy aircraft for the military, the then opposition MPs rose against it and played politics around it. The ‘slash and burn politics’ can put the lives of all Ghanaians at risk and eventually make politicians look stupid,” he cautioned.

Adutwum added, “We cannot continue to demonise all the contributions of our political opponents for political gains. I believe if what a particular government is doing will help the nation, we must all support it and avoid unnecessary criticisms”.

Also, Kennedy Agyapong, a flagbearer hopeful of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), has urged Ghanaians to allow the government to spend when it comes to buying aircraft.

The former lawmaker noted that the Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) helicopter that crashed was approved during former president Kufuor’s time.

Speaking at the state funeral on August 15, 2025, Kennedy Agyapong stated, “I want to take this opportunity to console the bereaved families, but sometimes, the nation needs to understand when the state spends money on certain things”.

“Whenever the government decides on a project, Ghanaians start criticising. But where the government spends in a way that will help the nation, we should all agree and support it”.

The former Assin Central lawmaker added, “If the aircraft are old, then we need to get new ones…so sometimes we have to understand when the state spends money on certain things; this helicopter was approved during President Kufuor’s time. It was two, but they criticised it and we had the courage to go for one”.

In addition, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, the Asantehene, has called on all political actors to stop playing politics with the procurement of presidential planes and helicopters.

Leave Dr Ayensu-Danquah alone and go after unaccredited religious titles – Palgrave to GTEC

0

Dr Palgrave Boakye-Danquah, a former Government Spokesperson on Governance and Security, has urged the Ghana Tertiary Education Commission (GTEC) to leave Deputy Health Minister Dr Grace Ayensu-Danquah alone.

The former Government Spokesperson asked the Ghana Tertiary Education Commission to shift its attention to religious bodies and individuals using unaccredited titles.

According to Dr Palgrave Boakye-Danquah, GTEC must investigate religious bodies and persons using Reverend, Rev. Dr and others.

Speaking on Channel One TV’s Breakfast Daily on August 19, Dr Boakye-Danquah stated, “GTEC should leave the Deputy Minister alone. I think that there are people who are using titles that they must pursue. From a religious background, I know that some people hold themselves with certain titles. GTEC is supposed to look at all institutions as they are”.

“We know that in this country, we have theological institutions that are accredited, and people go through to acquire studies and certification. I would want to entreat GTEC to turn their attention to the religious bodies those that are using Reverend, Rev. Dr., etc., that are also not accredited. I think GTEC should turn their attention there, and that will be able to sanitise the system,” he added.

Also, the Deputy Chief Executive Officer of the Environmental Protection Authority (EPA), Prof. Michael Ayamga-Adongo, has backed Dr Ayensu-Danquah.

Speaking on Channel One TV’s he stated, “I don’t think the Deputy Minister wants to beat the system. It is just that she comes from a system that described her as a professor, and she is bringing it here. What is not helping her case is trying to project it as if it is equivalent to what happens here. Was she a professor in the United States? Yes. Can she hold herself as a professor, maybe outside? Yes, but not in the university here. These are the intricacies of the issue.

I think that, as much as I appreciate GTEC for policing the system, they should go after those abusing it and not people who have come from a system that described her as a professor,” he added.

Their comments come following the ongoing dispute between the Ghana Tertiary Education Commission (GTEC) and Dr Grace Ayensu-Danquah.

GTEC warned Dr Grace Ayensu-Danquah against presenting herself as a professor.

Vincent Assafuah wasting everybody’s time – Kwakye Ofosu

0

Felix Kwakye Ofosu, the Minister of State in charge of Government Communications, has debunked Vincent Ekow Assafuah’s claims that Mahama boarded an expensive private jet.

According to Felix Kwakye Ofosu, Vincent Assafuah is wasting everybody’s time as he does not have any facts.

He emphasised that Ekow Assafuah’s Mahama jet claims a shambolic effort at propaganda that has badly backfired.

Felix Kwakye labelled the MP’s allegation as a mediocre attempt at propaganda.

The minister asserted that Assafuah’s statements are baseless and misleading, adding that President Mahama travelled on a commercial Emirates flight during his trip to Japan.

Speaking on Citi Eyewitness News, he stated, “Clearly the MP in question is dabbling in a mediocre attempt and propaganda”.

“He does not have any facts. He is just wasting everybody’s time with claims that are false. President Mahama has not travelled by private jet. Indeed, President Mahama travelled to Japan via Emirates, and it is something that you can check. It is not a secret”, the minister said.

Felix Kwakye further added that President Mahama’s travel arrangements are transparent and verifiable.

His comments following Vincent Ekow Assafuah, in a Facebook post, claimed John Mahama boarded a private plane at an incredible cost of $690,000.

However, Stan Dogbe, in a sharp reply, told Ekow Assafuah that it does not take that much brainwork to avoid embarrassing yourself.

Stan Dogbe emphasised that, as at the claimed time Assafuah cited, President Mahama was live on TV  between 10.30 am and 12.45 pm, attending the thanksgiving mass of Dr Edward Omane Boamah at the Christ the King Parish.

The deputy Chief of Staff, in his response, wrote, “This one here will also demand to be called ‘Honourable’!

Even if you are not street smart, it doesn’t take that much brain work to avoid embarrassing yourself, or?

The president was live on many TV networks between 10.30 am and 12.45 pm, attending the Thanksgiving mass of Dr Edward Omane Boamah at the Christ the King Parish.

Did he take off in the supposed jet at 7.00 am and flew back for the 10.30 am mass?

I guess we have to ask his classmates how smart this guy was in his lower school days because… Eish!

This is not how to be relevant oooh! Vincent Ekow Assafuah, invest in reading and how to be politically relevant and stop disgracing MPs”.

Stan Dogbe, in a separate post on Facebook, revealed President Mahama’s travel to Japan on board a commercial airline from Accra’s Kotoka International Airport.

Meanwhile, Vincent Ekow Assafuah has said it is within his right as a lawmaker to demand the full disclosure of President John Mahama’s travels.

He noted that the amount of money that it is costing the taxpayer and the people going with the president must not be hidden.

According to Assafuah, he does not think the President’s delegation travels with him on the Emirates flight.

Speaking on Citi Eyewitness News on Monday, August 18, Vincent Ekow Assafuah stated, “I have made a Facebook post that seeks answers from the government. It is within my rights as an MP to seek answers with regard to how my President is travelling out of the country, the amount of money that it is costing the taxpayer, and the people that he is going with, because they are going to be paid per diem. All this information should not be hidden from us”.

“I am suggesting to you that I do not think that the President and his delegation, all of them, went with the Emirates flight that they are talking about”, he added.

“Nobody travelled via private jet to Japan or Singapore” – Joyce Bawah

0

Joyce Bawah Mogtari, Special Aide to President John Dramani Mahama, has confidently debunked rumours circulating around the President travels to Japan via private jet.

Madam Joyce Bawah, in a social media post on X, stated, “Let me state this once and without any fear of contradiction or equivocation, that nobody has travelled via private jet to Japan or to Singapore, please.

If this propaganda is anything to go by, then our democracy is doomed. Matters of presidential travels are matters of public interest and so can very easily be checked without generating unnecessary drama”, she added.

President John Dramani Mahama left the country on Sunday, August 17, for a two-nation official visit to Japan and Singapore.

Felix Kwakye Ofosu, in a statement, revealed that Mahama will participate in the 9th Tokyo International Conference on African Development (TICAD IX) and also speak at the Ghana Presidential Investment Forum.

He also added that the president will later continue to Singapore for a three-day state visit.

John Mahama will meet Singapore President Tharman Shanmugaratnam and Prime Minister Lawrence Wong, and also participate in the Africa-Singapore Business Forum and deliver an address at an investment forum.

Her comments come following Vincent Ekow Assafuah, in a Facebook post, who claimed John Mahama boarded a private plane at an incredible cost of $690,000.

“Your lawyers need to be fired” – GTEC’s Boss tells Dr Ayensu Danquah

0

Prof Abdulai Jinapor, the Director General of the Ghana Tertiary Education Commission, has told the Deputy Minister for Health, Dr Grace Ayensu Danquah, to fire her lawyers.

The GTEC boss emphasised that Dr Grace Ayensu Danquah’s lawyers are not being helpful to her cause.

According to the GTEC boss, the deputy minister and her legal team are being inconsistent about her academic credentials.

GTEC has warned Dr Grace Ayensu-Danquah against presenting herself as a professor.

Speaking on Joy FM interview on Monday, August 18, 2025, Prof Abdulai Jinapor stated, “Two weeks to respond to her demand? That she is a full professor, an assistant professor, or an adjunct assistant professor? Which is which? As I have indicated, the lawyers have not been helpful to her cause, and if I am advising her, I think the lawyers need to be fired”.

“The Honourable Deputy Minister of Health, an MP, said on national TV that she is a full professor from the University of Utah, Department of Surgery. That is a statement of fact,” Prof Jinapor stated.

He added, “Her lawyers wrote to GTEC and indicated that she is an assistant professor at Utah. The University of Utah wrote to GTEC and indicated that she is an adjunct assistant professor”.

Dr Grace Ayensu-Danquah has replied to the Director-General of the Ghana Tertiary Education Commission (GTEC), Prof Ahmed Jinapor, over her ‘Professor’ title.

She noted that GTEC wants to discredit the hard work she has done.

Dr Grace Ayensu-Danquah further quizzed GTEC on whether they are going to settle the ‘Professor’ title on social media.

Speaking in an interview on CTV on Monday, August 18, 2025, Dr Ayensu-Danquah questioned, “My question is, as a state regulator, are we going to settle the matter on social media? Should we be talking about the matter on social media? As a regulator, shouldn’t you be going through due process?

“So, what I see is just an attempt to discredit the hard work I have done… I’m still trying to figure it out. So, I want Honourable Jinapor to bring his CV for us to compare,” she said.

She further reiterated, “I earned my professor of surgery title long ago. I have a campus in Utah, where I head the global surgery department. But I prefer to be here to help my people; that is why I’m here, that is why I’m not in the classroom every day.

“But even still, I have a residency programme that I manage here in Ghana. I’m doing public research in Ghana, including breast cancer research, quality assurance and quality improvement for surgical care in Ghana. So, the issue is strange to me,” she added.

Meanwhile, on May 30, 2025, the Ghana Tertiary Education Commission warned against the abuse of titles like  Doctor and Professor by people without documented credentials.

Asiedu Nketia stopped me from pushing TV3’s microphone – NPP’s National Vice Chairman

0

Alhaji Osman Masawudu, the National Vice Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), has narrated how Johnson Asiedu Nketiah, the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC), stopped him from pushing away TV3’s microphone at the NDC headquarters.

According to Alhaji Osman Masawudu, Asiedu Nketiah told him, he was at the NDC headquarters, so he could not push away the TV3 microphone.

He further accused TV3 of having evil plans and a diabolical agenda against the NPP.

“When you are destroying people’s reputation, be very careful” – Hassan Ayariga to GTEC

0

Hassan Ayariga, the former presidential candidate of the All People’s Congress (APC), has told the Ghana Tertiary Education Commission (GTEC) to be very careful when they are destroying people’s reputations.

According to Hassan Ayariga, he has not received any letter from the Ghana Tertiary Education Commission (GTEC) regarding his use of academic titles.

Speaking on JoyNews’ PM Express on Monday, August 18, Hassan Ayariga detailed, “So in that letter, they said, ‘in the light of your inability to provide the required document, you are hereby directed to immediately cease the use of the title Doctor, and additionally, you must provide verifiable evidence that the title has been removed from all platform, including, but not limited to official social institution’.

“You see clearly, this is the first letter they are writing to me, and you are writing a letter asking me to provide ABC and D. In the same letter, you are asking me to stop using A, B, C and D. What is the essence of that letter?”

He added, “And as we speak today, let me be very honest and clear to you, I have not received the letter from GTEC to date. Until today, there has been no evidence of them serving me a letter.

“I don’t have a letter from GTEC, as we speak, and if you want, put them on the phone to prove to you that they have given me a letter. So you see, there’s some kind of an agenda to destroy people’s reputation”.

Hassan Ayariga noted, “And when you are destroying people’s reputation, you have to be very careful, because it is very difficult to build a reputation. So you must ask questions like an institution, a proper institution.”

“So you write to us, you write to a Dr, and then we are requesting him to do ABC. You give him timelines… ‘We are giving you from this day…’ See, I’m not your worker. I have not come to your office, and I’ve submitted a CV, whereby you are in a rush to verify my CV, to see whether I am qualified to get that job or not.”

Hassan Ayariga, the Presidential Candidate of the All People’s Congress (APC), was directed to stop using the academic title “Dr” after he failed to provide evidence verifying the legitimacy of the designation.

In a statement issued on Tuesday, July 15, the Commission stated, “To date, the Commission has not received any response from you. This continued silence is unacceptable”.

Meanwhile, on May 30, 2025, the Ghana Tertiary Education Commission warned against the abuse of titles like  Doctor and Professor by people without documented credentials.

Also, GTEC has warned Dr Grace Ayensu-Danquah against presenting herself as a professor.
