Ex-President Kufuor commiserates with Mahama over the tragic helicopter crash

Former President John Agyekum Kufuor has visited President John Dramani Mahama to commiserate with him and the government following the tragic helicopter crash.

Vice President, Prof Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang made this known in a post on her X account on Friday, August 8.

Prof Jane Naana Opoku Agyeman wrote, “In a gesture of solidarity and statesmanship, former President John Agyekum Kufuor paid a visit to President John Dramani Mahama and the First Lady, Lordina Mahama, at their residence to express his condolences and support during this difficult time.

I joined them and other government officials to receive him and thank him for his thoughtful gesture”.

In addition, John Agyekum Kufuor, in a recent interview, recounted how he almost died in a plane crash over the Sahara Desert back in 2007 when he was serving as the president of Ghana.

According to Kufuor, that incident happened while he was returning from an official visit to Libya.

He described the event as tense, recalling that he was travelling with about 12 to 16 people from Tripoli to Khartoum, Sudan’s capital.

Speaking on Angel TV, former President Kufuor narrated, “I remember that sometime in 2007, had it not been for God’s intervention, I would have been involved in a plane crash over the Sahara Desert”.

“All of a sudden, over the desert, the plane could not ascend. It had become heavy, and for almost 30 minutes, it refused to gain altitude. When you looked down, all you could see was the desert. Eeeii! What was about to happen to us here?” he reflected.

Kufuor remarked, highlighting the unsettling atmosphere on board, adding that the pilot was virtually silent without telling them anything.

He continued, “The pilot remained silent, not communicating anything to us”.  

“The plane managed to manoeuvre and made a turn to align over the Mediterranean Sea, although it was still struggling to fly at a higher altitude for nearly an hour before we finally landed in Tripoli,” Kufuor explained.

The former president added, “As we were landing, we noticed fire tenders and security vehicles speeding across the airport tarmac. That was when the pilot confirmed that the plane couldn’t fly any higher, so he had to return to Tripoli”.

Former president John Agyekum Kufuor’s revelation comes following Ghana’s loss of eight people, including Dr Omane Boamah and Dr Ibrahim Murtala Mohammed, two cabinet members who passed away following a helicopter crash at Adansi Akrofuom District of the Ashanti Region on Wednesday, August 6.

The helicopter was carrying eight individuals, including three crew members and five passengers, among them the ministers, a presidential staffer identified as Samuel Sarpong, and the ministers’ security detail.

Muniru Mohammed, Acting Deputy National Security Coordinator, and Samuel Aboagye, a former Parliamentary Candidate, and Samuel Sarpong, Vice Chairman of NDC, have all been confirmed dead.

The crew members are Squadron Leader Peter Bafemi Anala, Flying Officer Manin Twum-Ampadu, and Sergeant Ernest Addo Mensah.

Additionally, President John Mahama has called on Ghanaians to rise above political divisions and unite in this time of national mourning.

According to Mahama, Ghanaians must come together and bid a fitting farewell to the deceased.

Speaking to the nation on August 7, 2025, John Mahama stated, “This is not a time for division, speculation or political point-scoring. It is a time for strength, for empathy and for the enduring Ghanaian spirit that still stands tall when all else fails. Let our words be of comfort, our actions be of kindness, and our unity be the tribute we offer to those whose lives have been lost.

“To the families, to the Ghana Armed Forces, to the Ministries and Departments that have lost dedicated staff and to the National Democratic Congress, which mourns the passing of valued members, may you find strength in their memory and legacy.

“May we all be comforted by the knowledge that, though they are gone from our sight, they remain forever in the spirit of the nation they so faithfully served.”

It has been revealed that Businessman Ibrahim Mahama sponsored Ghana’s emergency transfer of the remains of Wednesday’s tragic military helicopter crash victims.

The remains of the eight fallen heroes were airlifted to South Africa for advanced forensic testing.

According to reports, due to the severely damaged state of the remains, Ibrahim Mahama offered his private jet to airlift them.

The Dzata jet departed yesterday. Thursday, August 7, 2025, carrying biological samples from the victims.

Ghana’s Head of Forensic Analysis at the Ghana Police Service’s Criminal Investigations Department (CID) led the delegation to South Africa.

The DNA testing is expected to be completed within 6 to 12 hours of arrival.

The Interior Minister Muntaka Mubarak, the IGP, CID Director-General, and other dignitaries held a solemn prayer before takeoff.

He revealed that the samples were sent abroad to accelerate identification and allow for dignified burials. “We are working around the clock to conclude investigations and give families closure,” he said.

Kwabena Mintah Akandoh, the Health Minister, also added that even when testing is done locally, international confirmation is often required.

Meanwhile, Dr. Paul Poku Sampene Ossei, a forensic pathologist at Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH), has expressed concern over the decision to sponsor the forensic examination of the victims of the helicopter crash in South Africa.

He believes that the DNA analysis could have been conducted in Ghana, and describes the decision as troubling for many professionals in the field.

He noted that the samples from helicopter crash victims being sent to South Africa for DNA analysis means the government has no respect and confidence in the Ghana medical system.

Speaking on Onua FM, Dr. Paul Poku Sampene Ossei stated, “I don’t have a problem when individuals have their own money and want to spend, but when you are using the State’s financial resources, let’s take it as the flight carrying the remains is for free, we will not consider that, but when they get there, they will have to pay fees.

It is a sort of worry for some of us, but we cannot do much than accept it like that. If you are a Ghanaian doctor and you hear this, you have to make up your own mind.

Basically, there is no confidence in us; it has been shown time without number that they do not have confidence in doctors who are here and the system, especially I don’t want to speak too long”, he added.

“Tragic military helicopter crash could be deliberate or a mistake” – Bernard Mornah

Bernard Mornah, the former National Chairman of the People’s National Convention (PNC), has said the tragic military helicopter crash could be deliberate or a mistake.

He emphasised that an investigation needs to be carried out to get to the bottom of the helicopter crash on Wednesday, August 6.

Speaking to the media, Bernard Mornah stated, “It should be investigated; it could be deliberate or a mistake, so let’s get to the bottom of this matter.

For me, some of the things I know, Samson Agyei became the Chief of Army Staff, and I will remember that he would personally take the flight and pilot President Mills. He piloted President Mahama”.

He added, “I also remember on two occasions, Samson Agyei piloted the Minister for Lands and Natural Resources, so you will want to take some of the finest to do these things. If we do not take the finest to lead our leaders across, and we probably took a novice, I don’t know his level of proficiency in piloting, and it happened.

I don’t know why anybody would lose their wife less than one month and then they ask you to go and take a plane, even driving a car will be a traumatic situation to do so, and all these things must be investigated so we can get to the bottom of this”.

Bernard Mornah, in a separate interview on JoyNews following the tragic crash, described the late Dr Edward Omane Boamah and Dr Ibrahim Murtala Mohammed as not corrupt.

He stated, “These two gentlemen, virtually of my age, I can say that they died without being corrupt”.

Mr Mornah described the deceased as honourable public servants who stood firm in their convictions. “They died, and they would not have taken any dime from anybody for their good rather than the good of humanity. I can attest to their level of commitment to our nation”.

“If there are human saints, I will name Omane Boamah and Murtala that in the field of public service, they can be adjudged as some of the saints that we have had,” he added.

Meanwhile, President John Dramani Mahama has announced that the Ghana Armed Forces has initiated a full-scale investigation into the tragic helicopter crash.

According to John Mahama, an investigative Board of Inquiry has been set up to lead the full-scale investigations.

Addressing the nation on August 7, 2025, John Mahama stated, “As we mourn, questions about the cause of this tragedy are natural and important. I want to assure the families and the nation that the Ghana Armed Forces has initiated a full and transparent investigation into the circumstances of this crash.

An Investigative Board of Inquiry has been set up to determine the cause of the crash. The flight data and cockpit voice recorders have been retrieved. All eight bodies of our departed comrades have been recovered, and the government is in close touch with the bereaved families regarding the identification of the bodies and their final interment.”

He added, “In this moment of national grief, let us remember that we are, above all, Ghanaians, united not just by nationality but by shared hope, shared humanity and now shared sorrow. Let us set aside our differences and offer our collective compassion to the bereaved families.

President John Mahama further called on Ghanaians to rise above political divisions and unite in this time of national mourning.

According to Mahama, Ghanaians must come together and bid a fitting farewell to the deceased.

John Mahama added, “This is not a time for division, speculation or political point-scoring. Villarreal CF breaks silence on Thomas Partey’s legal proceedings

Spanish La Liga side Villarreal CF has broken its silence after announcing Ghanaian footballer Thomas Partey as its new player.

Thomas Partey signed a two-year contract with Villarreal CF.

 Villarreal, in a statement announcing Thomas Partey, acknowledged their new player’s legal proceedings in England.

The Spanish club, in their statement, stated Partey is innocent until proven guilty.

According to them, Thomas Partey has maintained his innocence and denies all charges against him.

Villarreal’s statement read, “The club is also aware that the player is currently involved in legal proceedings in England. The player firmly maintains his innocence and denies all charges against him.

The club respects the fundamental principle of the presumption of innocence and will await the outcome of the judicial process, which will be responsible for clarifying the facts of the case. Due to the law in England in relation to ongoing proceedings, the club is unable to comment further”.

“Villarreal CF wishes to clearly reiterate its strong commitment to respect and diversity and firmly condemns any act of violence in all its forms, including gender-based violence, discrimination, racism, xenophobia, or any behaviour that undermines the dignity of individuals”, the club stated in a statement.

Meanwhile, Thomas Partey was granted bail after appearing in court on rape charges.

Thomas Partey was charged with five counts of rape and one count of sexual assault by the Metropolitan Police Service.

“The Crown Prosecution Service has authorised the Metropolitan Police Service to charge a man after a file of evidence was submitted by detectives.

“The Met has issued a charge and requisition to Thomas Partey, 32 (13/06/1992), of Hertfordshire, in connection with the following offences: Five counts of rape, one count of sexual assault.”

Reports suggest the offences are alleged to have taken place between 2021 and 2022.

Partey was granted bail after appearing in Westminster Magistrates’ Court today, August 5, 2025, on the rape charges.

His bail condition includes, Partey is not allowed to contact any of the women involved in the case. He must notify the police of any address changes.

Partey must also notify the police of his international travels, and must turn up to the next court appearance at the Old Bailey in September.

Also, an alleged victim, speaking to British media outlet The Athletic, stated, “I would frequently get messages from fans. They’d send me pictures of him playing or scoring.

I would get death threats, rape threats, people saying they’d set me on fire. If he scored, for example, the abuse would be worse,” she stated.

Furthermore, Jenny Wiltshire, one of the UK’s most respected criminal defence solicitors, is representing Thomas Partey in his rape trial, which began today, August 5 2025.

Jenny Wiltshire, earlier in a statement, revealed Partey denied all the charges levelled against him.

She stated, “Thomas Partey denies all the charges against him. He has fully cooperated with the police and CPS throughout their three-year investigation. He now welcomes the opportunity to finally clear his name”.

The lawyer further added that Thomas will not be making any further public comments while the legal process is ongoing.

Jaswant Narwal, Chief Crown Prosecutor, confirmed the charges, saying, “Our prosecutors have worked closely with officers in the Metropolitan Police to review the evidence and advise on the appropriate charges”.

“Criminal proceedings are active, and the defendant has the right to a fair trial. It is absolutely vital that there is no reporting, commentary, or sharing of information online which could in any way prejudice these proceedings,” Narwal warned.

Kevin Taylor, a controversial social media commentator, has urged President John Dramani Mahama to dismiss the Managing Director of the Ghana Airports Company Limited, Mrs Yvonne Nana Afriyie Opare.

According to Kevin Taylor, numerous controversies have emerged during her tenure, and she cannot be seen as not part of the crime.

He noted that several scandals unfolded at the airport under her leadership during the Akufo-Addo-led administration, including the COVID-19 testing, Akufo-Addo’s daughter selling shops at the Airport.

Kevin Taylor further raised questions about why John Mahama continues to retain her instead of appointing a more competent individual from the National Democratic Congress (NDC) who sacrificed for the president to regain power.

Speaking on his show With All Due Respect, Kevin Talyor fumed, “This woman at the Ghana Airport Company is causing too much controversy; it has been going much for too long. People are tired of this woman. It has been seven months, it is enough.

Whoever was giving this woman the favours, it is enough that this woman needs to go. This woman needs to be sacked. Mr President, with all due respect, the NDC as a political party and this government, Mr President John Dramani Mahama, it is enough”.

Kevin Taylor asserted that Mrs Yvonne Nana Afriyie Opare is bad news and part of the crimes happening at the Ghana Airport.

He added, “This woman is bad news; she is part of the crime. She did nothing for the NDC to come to power; she is an NPP appointee, in and out she works for Akufo-Addo. We don’t want to have an issue with you, Mr President, with all due respect, sack this woman this week.

Enough of the controversy at the Airport, Abobea had to work, but this woman did everything possible for Abobea to be sacked from the Airport; this Airport does not belong to this woman. When Gyankroma and Akufo-Addo were sharing the airport shops and the COVID-19 scandal, this woman was there.

 So, Mr President, you cannot tell me this woman has not been part of the crime from day one; this woman needs to go, or else we are going to demonstrate against your decision you keep this woman at the Airport”.

The US-based vlogger further stated boldly that he is not going to allow any malign the Mahama government by ensuring the right things are done.

He continued, “We are not going to allow anybody to malign this government; we are here to protect the government, we are here to speak truth and to ensure the right things are done”.

According to Kevin Taylor, President Mahama cannot tell Ghanaians that no one in Ghana has better qualifications and can do a better job than Mrs. Yvonne Nana Afriyie Opare.

He detailed, “This woman is under investigation. She is not supposed to be the MD of the Ghana Airport. I don’t know what job she has done that no one could do. I don’t know the qualification she has that in Ghana, no NDC member has. I cannot see any extraordinary work she has done at the Kotoka International Airport, which we cannot get a woman or someone who is smarter and intelligent to fill that position.

There are people who have sacrificed to bring Mahama to power. Why is this woman still in post? Are we entertaining nonsense? Why are we entertaining these things? The controversy surrounding this woman is too much; she needs to go”.

Kevin Taylor later fired shots at Paul Adom-Otchere, the former Board Chairman of the Ghana Airports Company Limited (GACL), describing him as a thief.

“Paul Adom Otchere is a thief. Nobody should take that guy seriously; he is a typical liar. Paul Adom Otchere does not live with his wife. Paul Adom Octhere is a carny, slimy, dirty riffraff who can lie through his ass”, he boldly added.

Kevin Taylor’s comment follows Yvonne Nana Afriyie Opare, the managing director of the Ghana Airports Company Limited (GACL), ending the scandalous revenue assurance contract with Evatex Logistics.

The report suggests that Evatex Logistics Limited, a company affiliated with SML, has been served with a termination letter on 28th July, 2025.

According to the MD, no payments have also been made to date to Evatex Logistics.

Evatex Logistics Ltd, a firm affiliated with Strategic Mobilisation Ghana Ltd (SML), was contracted by GACL to provide revenue assurance services in regard to cargo at Kotoka International Airport.

“The terms of reference indicated that, upon successful completion of the assignment, GACL would pay Evatex Logistics Ltd out of the recouped amount—a fee equivalent to 15%, which shall be charged on the total of the possible royalties unearthed, concealment uncovered, and recouped by GACL under the audit assignment”.

Yvonne Nana Afriyie Opare’s statement read, “Reference is made to the Revenue Assurance Audit agreement (The Agreement) executed between Ghana Airports Company Limited (GACL) and Evatex Logistics Limited on the 4th of December 2024.

Management would wish to bring to your notice (as at the date of this letter), its intention to terminate the Agreement without cause oursuant to the termination clause (a) of the agreement which states as followe: A party may terminate this Agreement before its expiry, without cause, by providing the other party a one month’s prior written notice of ts decision to terminate….”

The GACL MD added, “Hence, effective 27th  of August 2025, the agreement executed on the 4th  of December 2024 shall cease to have effect and shall be considered as terminated by GACL. You are therefore required to use this notice period to demobilise and leave the premises of Kotoka International Airport on or before the 27th  of August 2025.

We thank you for your intention to carry out the revenue assurance audit and wish you well in your future endeavours”.

The Office of the Special Prosecutor is all over the GACL contract with Evatex Logistics, investigating the circumstances under which the contract was awarded to the firm.

However, Evatex has threatened to sue if the Ghana Airport Company does not restore the terminated audit contract worth $64.6 million.

Evatex has given the Ghana Airport a seven-day ultimatum to restore the terminated contract.

Prophet Nigel Gaisie, the Founder and leader of the Prophetic Hill Chapel, has reacted to the tragic military helicopter crash that claimed the lives of eight Ghanaians.

Nigel Gaisie, in a Facebook post, described the tragedy as a national moment of mourning, adding that it was also a spiritual signal.

In his post, the man of God wrote, “National Prophecy. Prophet Nigel Gaisie spoke about it, a vision of the President in dark cloth and among others… (The prophet sees in bits; he does not see it all. The promoting of the prophets must be TAKEN SERIOUSLY)”.

Nigel Gaisie further added that though the country is in mourning, this was a clear reminder that God is still speaking.

According to him, God rules in the affairs of men.

“Though our hearts are heavy, this is a clear reminder that God is still speaking, and He rules in the affairs of men. Let us listen, let us be vigilant, and let us pray…

“We are standing in prayer with the nation and family,” he added,

The man of God further references Amos 3:7 to underline the relevance of prophetic voices in national matters.

Meanwhile, a viral video has emerged of a self-acclaimed man of God, Samuel Henry, also known as Prophet Roja, who predicted the passing of the Defence Minister, Dr Omane Boahmah.

In the viral video, Prophet Roja stated, “Who is the minister for defence right now, Omane Boamah? Wherever he is, he should call me; I have a very deep message for him. So wherever Minister Omane Boamah is, when he sees this video, he should call me”.

“My name is Prophet Roja. When he sees this video, he should call me, and I will not say the message. Anyone close to the minister of defence should show him this video and let him call me”, he added.

In a separate video, Prophet Roja added, “God is speaking to me right now, on the 29th of July, 2025. Please record this. Let all Christians in Ghana pray. This is a conditional prophecy. What I am seeing is that there is going to be a plane crash. I see a plane mid-air, and then it suddenly crashes. When it crashes, the number of survivors is up to 25. It is travelling from Accra to Kumasi”.

Additionally, the bodies of the fallen Ghanaian heroes have been flown to South Africa for a DNA test to identify them.

Former President John Agyekum Kufuor has recounted how he almost died in a plane crash over the Sahara Desert back in 2007 when he was serving as the president of Ghana.

According to Kufuor, that incident happened while he was returning from an official visit to Libya.

He described the event as tense, recalling that he was travelling with about 12 to 16 people from Tripoli to Khartoum, Sudan’s capital.

Speaking on Angel TV, former President Kufuor narrated, “I remember that sometime in 2007, had it not been for God’s intervention, I would have been involved in a plane crash over the Sahara Desert”.

“All of a sudden, over the desert, the plane could not ascend. It had become heavy, and for almost 30 minutes, it refused to gain altitude. When you looked down, all you could see was the desert. Eeeii! What was about to happen to us here?” he reflected.

Kufuor remarked, highlighting the unsettling atmosphere on board, adding that the pilot was virtually silent without telling them anything.

He continued, “The pilot remained silent, not communicating anything to us”.  

“The plane managed to manoeuvre and made a turn to align over the Mediterranean Sea, although it was still struggling to fly at a higher altitude for nearly an hour before we finally landed in Tripoli,” Kufuor explained.

The former president added, “As we were landing, we noticed fire tenders and security vehicles speeding across the airport tarmac. That was when the pilot confirmed that the plane couldn’t fly any higher, so he had to return to Tripoli”.

Rev Dr. Stephen Y. Wengam, the General Superintendent of the Assemblies of God, Ghana, has revealed why President John Dramani Mahama was not on board the helicopter that crashed on Wednesday, August 6, 2025, killing two ministers and six others en route to an event in Obuasi.

According to Rev Wengam, the first lady, Lordina Mahama, played a crucial role in changing President Mahama’s initial plans.

Rev Wengam disclosed that the President was originally scheduled to join the trip but had cancelled a church engagement to attend Côte d’Ivoire’s Independence Day celebration.

That plan would have placed him on the Obuasi-bound helicopter on Wednesday, ahead of his departure for Côte d’Ivoire on Thursday.

However, following several discussions between the First Lady and Rev. Dr. Wengam, President Mahama was eventually convinced to attend the Assemblies of God event on Wednesday instead, thereby missing the ill-fated flight.

Speaking during a church gathering, Rev. Wengam narrated, “People have been calling and posting on social media and saying Assemblies of God, thank you for saving our president’s life. It’s not about the clapping. Listen carefully. That’s why the speaker said, you must be prophetic. You don’t need to be a prophet”.

“When last week, I received a call from the President’s Secretary [Dr Callistus Mahama] that he will not be able to come today, and that he had been invited to la Côte D’ Ivoire to be the special guest of honour for their independence [Day celebration] and that His Excellency had asked the Vice President and his wife [Lordina Mahama] to come in his place. I said, Thank you, Dr Callistus”, he added.

Rev Wengam continued, “Then I called Reverend Bawa and said, ‘Reverend Bawa, the President said he can’t make it, and I don’t accept it. Go mobilise the prayer team and pray, and reverse it. Rev Bawa is my witness. Where is he? I told him. I said, I don’t accept it.’”

“Then Monday, when we arrived, I was a bit late. I was just coming, and the First Lady called me very angry. She said, ‘Pastor, the President says that he’s going to Côte d’Ivoire, but no, we are coming for this program. We have planned for this program long ago. No way.’ It was a battle on the phone. Battle on the phone. She said, ‘Don’t accept it’.”

He further revealed that when he was on call with the first lady President tried reaching him.

He added, “I was talking with her when the President was calling. I said, Mama, ‘President is calling. It’s okay. I’m going off. I don’t agree. So the President explained. I said, ‘Your Excellency, I understand, your will be done’.”

“Then, when I was leading prayer, I saw Mama calling again. I couldn’t receive the call. Then she sent a text and said, ‘We are coming on Wednesday’, so the President can travel on Thursday. So that was how it was averted.”

“So when the speaker says, we must be prophetic, every pastor — and this comes by being very prayerful, spending time hours before the daily, not that you pray on Monday, you don’t pray Wednesday, when you’re going to preach on Saturday, then you start fasting off.”

Also, a book of condolence will be opened from Sunday, August 10, to Thursday, August 14, at various institutions namely, The Ministry of Defence, The Ministry of Environment, Science and Technology, The Ministry of Foreign Affairs, The Ghana Armed Forces Headquarters, The National Democratic Congress (NDC) headquartersand The head office of NADMO.

Additionally, the bodies of the fallen Ghanaian heroes have been flown to South Africa for a DNA test to identify them.

According to Prophet Roja, the Chief of Staff Julius Debrah must call him as deep things about to happen.

Meanwhile, A viral video has emerged of a self-acclaimed man of God, Samuel Henry, also known as Prophet Roja, who predicted the passing of the Defence Minister, Dr Omane Boahmah.

In the viral video, Prophet Roja stated, “Who is the minister for defence right now, Omane Boamah? Wherever he is, he should call me; I have a very deep message for him. So wherever Minister Omane Boamah is, when he sees this video, he should call me”.

“My name is Prophet Roja. When he sees this video, he should call me, and I will not say the message. Anyone close to the minister of defence should show him this video and let him call me”, he added.

In a separate video, Prophet Roja added, “God is speaking to me right now, on the 29th of July, 2025. Please record this. Let all Christians in Ghana pray. This is a conditional prophecy. What I am seeing is that there is going to be a plane crash. I see a plane mid-air, and then it suddenly crashes. When it crashes, the number of survivors is up to 25. It is travelling from Accra to Kumasi”.

According to reports, all victims were tragically burnt beyond recognition.

The news was confirmed by the Chief of Staff, Julius Debrah, in an address from the presidency.

Muniru Mohammed, Acting Deputy National Security Coordinator, and Samuel Aboagye, a former Parliamentary Candidate, and Samuel Sarpong, Vice Chairman of NDC, have all been confirmed dead.

The crew members are Squadron Leader Peter Bafemi Anala, Flying Officer Manin Twum-Ampadu, and Sergeant Ernest Addo Mensah.

According to initial reports, the high-ranking government officials were aboard a Ghana Armed Forces Z-9 helicopter en route to Obuasi when the aircraft went off radar.

The cause of the crash is not yet known, and officials have yet to release full details.

Some more revelations are coming in regarding the tragic Ghana Armed Forces helicopter crash that claimed the lives of eight Ghanaians.

According to details, last-minute changes spared the lives of several key government officials and NDC members, including President John Mahama.

Speaking on TV3’s New Day on Thursday, August 7, Presidential Staffer, Nana Yaa Jantuah, stated, “The president was originally supposed to go with them. But because of the prayer programme at Gomoa Fetteh, he changed his itinerary.”

Deputy Director-General of the National Service Authority, Fuseini Donkor, on the show also revealed, “Muntaka was the fifth person on board with Dr Omane Boamah, then Ato dragged him out. Ato said no because we have a meeting with the immigration guys, and I need you there.

He was supposed to go, but Murtala was not on the flight. Murtala was not on the flight. So when Ato insisted and dragged Muntaka out, that was when Murtala replaced him for the vacant seat, then Murtala replaced him. That was why people started mentioning his name when it happened”.

He added, “The recurrence of that National security threat has always been recurring at Obusai. This was actually going to lunch and take them away from the galamsey to a responsible kind of mining”.

The NDC man further revealed that Dr Sarpong also stepped in to replace the NDC National Chairman, Asiedu Nketia, with the party’s General Secretary, asking him to replace them.

He continued. “The party needed a representation, but then yesterday was the Generals’ off day as well so he didn’t go, and the general secretary was like Dr Sarpong, you are from Kumasi, you are just going home so let the car take the lead joined the Heli when they finished the program, the car will take you from Obuasi back to Kumasi. That was how Dr Sarpong was on board”.

According to him, Sammy Gyamfi was also supposed to be there because it was mining. 

President John Dramani Mahama narrowly escaped the tragic military helicopter crash by attending an Assemblies of God 1st National Pastors and Spouses Prayer Retreat.

John Mahama was invited as a special guest of honour at the 1st National Pastors and Spouses Prayer Retreat, and was also expected to be at the Responsible Cooperative Mining and Skills Development Programme (rCOMSDEP) in the Ashanti Region.

According to reports, the 1st National Pastors and Spouses Prayer Retreat was held at the Pentecost Convention Centre in Gomoa Fetteh, Central Region, and took place on the same day as the Responsible Cooperative Mining and Skills Development Programme.

John Mahama was advertised on flyers and printed materials at the launch of the Responsible Cooperative Mining and Skills Development Programme (rCOMSDEP) at Black Park, near the Obuasi Len Clay Sports Stadium in the Ashanti Region.

The Responsible Cooperative Mining and Skills Development Programme is formed part of the government’s fight against illegal mining, popularly known as galamsey.

President Mahama, however, chose to attend the Assemblies of God programme, delegating Dr Edward Omane Boamah, the Minister of Defence and Dr Ibrahim Murtala Mohammed, the Minister of Environment, Science, Technology and Innovation.

According to Kofi Akpaloo, the NDC in opposition promised cocoa farmers they were going to raise a bag of cocoa to 7000 cedis, but only added 128 cedis to the bag of cocoa.

Speaking on Wontumi TV, Kofi Akpaloo shockingly claimed, “God is not asleep. You saw where the helicopter crash occurred? A cocoa farm. The cocoa farmer that they deceived, this is what happened. Someone will remember it one day. This is not politics. Everything that happens is God who makes it happen.

He added, recounting an incident that happened to the now Health minister, Mintah Akandoh, “I told you about Akandoh. God knows he will become a health minister, so he made something small happen to him, and he was rushed to Kumasi. Go was telling him that if he became the Health Minister all health projects he should continue them because it is necessary”.

“You told the cocoa farmers you were going to give them GHC7000 when you came into office. They all placed their hope on you, and you only added 128 cedis to their money”, Kofi Akpaloo noted.

He added, “Then, in the morning, a plane carrying eight people crashed on a cocoa farm, killing them. Do you think it’s for nothing? Don’t take things for granted. God is reminding you, God is reminding you, don’t lie to them again.

This is not about politics. I am telling you as it is, you lied to them, the people who voted for Mahama. These were some of the lies they told them: they lied on the plane, they lied on the cocoa farm, and God is using this as a reminder to them”.

Reacting to his comments, Kwame Nkrumah Tikese on Ada Akye Abia stated he always knew Kofi Akpaloo had no wisdom.

He stated, “Kofi Akpaloo and the rest, I am pleading with you people, look for sensible things to say. If God does not help you, and you are a fool when you are young, when you grow up, you will still be a fool.

People have died, and the whole country is in mourning, and you go and sit on a radio station playing politics with this. Nonsense, that they were deceiving cocoa farmers, that is why they crashed in a cocoa farm”.

He added, “Foolish talks like things. He will come wrapped in cloth, telling Ghanaians to vote for him. In Ghana, we need to be examining people’s brains if they want to be president. For long, I have known that Kofi Akpaloo had no wisdom, but now is the time Ghanaians are learning about it”.

According to Shamima Muslim, President Mahama is grieving the loss of some of his closest and most trusted allies.

Speaking on Joy FM’s Super Morning Show on Thursday, August 7, Ms Muslim stated, “To the President of the Republic, who is completely heartbroken that some of his best and brightest and closest confidants have had to depart this world in such a devastatingly painful way.”

“But who are we to question the will of the Almighty? He burdens not a soul beyond his capacity,” she added.

She added, “What we would also seek from all of you is to continuously bear the President up in prayer. All of us as appointees will come and go, and yes, our lives are not assured as citizens and as humans.”

“Bear the President in prayer, that he may not be confounded by the heaviness of the crown he wears. It is the will of God. We accept it unquestioningly, but we pray to the Almighty that He who has given us a heavy burden will grant all of us the strength to walk the path.”

Shamima Muslim further thanked Ghanaians for their outpouring of support during this period of national mourning.

She added, “I’d like to first of all say thank you to the people of Ghana, to all of you for the outpouring of love, of support, of sympathies that you have shared. “It has gone a long way in easing the hollowness in the hearts of the family, especially the spouses.”

She further revealed that some adult children of the victims are aware of the situation, but some of the younger children do not know what has happened as yet.

Shamima Muslim, in a separate interview on Citi Breakfast Show on Thursday, August 7, 2025, also pleaded with Ghanaians and the media platforms to delete the harrowing visuals from various networks.

She added, “We pray that the media continue to do a dignified coverage of the disaster.  We have pleaded for platforms to delete the harrowing visuals from various networks so that we can provide dignified coverage and still balance the need for the public to know what happened, respecting the family and their spouses.”

“We will communicate in real time the various actions that we are going to be taking,” she noted. “It is safe to say that we are all doing what it takes to ease the pain for the families, the government, and put in place all the necessary plans.”

“There is a planning committee at work to ensure a smooth process towards what should be a very simple process,” she said.

Their bodies were received at the Air Force Base in Accra.

Additionally, the Bureau of Public Safety (BPS) has called for an independent and transparent investigation.

On Thursday, August 7, 2025, the Bureau of Public Safety issued a statement labelling the issue as a national tragedy.

The Bureau of Public Safety called on the government to go beyond internal inquiries and thoroughly investigate the accident.

The statement read, “The tragedy calls not only for empathy but for a credible, evidence-based investigation and transparent communication”.

“This is a moment that calls for national unity, truth, and action. The lessons we draw from this tragedy must lead to stronger safety systems and enhanced operational accountability—both in our skies and on the ground.”

Dr Frank Amoakohene, the Ashanti Regional Minister, has shared how the late Dr Ibrahim Murtala Mohammed, the Minister of Environment, Science, Technology and Innovation, changed his plans of boarding a commercial flight for GAF’s Helicopter.

According to the Ashanti Regional Minister, Dr Murtala called him to arrange a car to pick him up at the Prempeh International Airport so he could attend the government lunch of the Responsible Cooperative Mining and Skills Development Programme (rCOMSDEP).

In a Facebook post, Dr Frank Amoakohene wrote, “Yesterday, around 4 pm, Hon. Murtala called me. His first words were that he admired my energy and was proud of me. I humbly replied, “Oh senior, I am only learning at your feet,” and we both laughed. He then requested that I arrange a vehicle to pick him up at the Kumasi Airport at 7 am for today’s programme”.

“At 9 am this morning, the driver informed me that Hon. had not reached out. I tried calling, thinking he might be airborne on AWA or Passion Air, never imagining that he had changed plans to join the helicopter”, he added.

The Ashanti regional minister further mourned Dr Ibrahim Murtala, “We have lost him in this tragic crash and seeing him lifeless this afternoon broke my heart painfully. My heart is heavy, my mind is numb. We have lost a fine leader,

He added, “No serious additions and maintenance in the last 8 years. My brother, Omane Boamah, consistently raised these issues at almost every Armed Forces Security Council meeting”.

Franklin Cudjoe recounted what a top Military liaison once told him that Ghana would want even if Togo were to attack the country.

“One top  Military liaison” if even Togo were to attack us, we would be wanting”. And yet, we had $58m to mess around with some crap edifice. More details later!   Not all mourners are genuine! I am very, very angry. You should be”, he added.

However, a former Deputy Defence Minister, Major Derrick Oduro (Rtd), has said the helicopter crash at Adansi may have been caused by poor weather conditions.

According to Major Derrick Oduro (Rtd), he ruled out a mechanical fault, asserting that the military follows a very rigorous checklist before every flight.

He noted that with the stern routine and the highly professional flight officers, it will be very rare that a mechanical fault causes a crash.

Speaking on Accra-based Asempa FM’s Ekosiisen, Major Derrick Oduro (Rtd) stated, “This can only be about bad weather and not a faulty helicopter. I’ve used that same aircraft several times without any issues.

The military follows rigorous checklists before every flight. Accidents like this rarely happen”.

Meanwhile, the Chief of Staff, Julius Debrah, on Wednesday night received the remains of the eight who died in the tragic military hospital.

Speaking on Joy FM’s Super Morning Show on Thursday, August 7, Ms Muslim stated, “To the President of the Republic, who is completely heartbroken that some of his best and brightest and closest confidants have had to depart this world in such a devastatingly painful way.”

“But who are we to question the will of the Almighty? He burdens not a soul beyond his capacity,” she added.

She added, “What we would also seek from all of you is to continuously bear the President up in prayer. All of us as appointees will come and go, and yes, our lives are not assured as citizens and as humans.”

“Bear the President in prayer, that he may not be confounded by the heaviness of the crown he wears. It is the will of God. We accept it unquestioningly, but we pray to the Almighty that He who has given us a heavy burden will grant all of us the strength to walk the path.”

Shamima Muslim further thanked Ghanaians for their outpouring of support during this period of national mourning.

She added, “I’d like to first of all say thank you to the people of Ghana, to all of you for the outpouring of love, of support, of sympathies that you have shared. “It has gone a long way in easing the hollowness in the hearts of the family, especially the spouses.”

She further revealed that some adult children of the victims are aware of the situation, but some of the younger children do not know what has happened as yet.

She added, “We pray that the media continue to do a dignified coverage of the disaster.  We have pleaded for platforms to delete the harrowing visuals from various networks so that we can provide dignified coverage and still balance the need for the public to know what happened, respecting the family and their spouses.”

“We will communicate in real time the various actions that we are going to be taking,” she noted. “It is safe to say that we are all doing what it takes to ease the pain for the families, the government, and put in place all the necessary plans.”

“There is a planning committee at work to ensure a smooth process towards what should be a very simple process,” she said.

The information coming in suggests the Environment Science and Technology Minister, Hon Ibrahim Murtala Muhammed, boarded the GAF Z9 flight, as a last-minute replacement for the interior minister, Muntaka Mubarak.

According to a member of the ruling National Democratic Congress, Muntaka was to be on board with Dr Omane Boamah.

He narrated that Muntaka Mubarak was dragged off the helicopter by Finance Minister Dr Cassiel Ato Forson for an urgent meeting with the Immigration Service.

Speaking on TV3 NEW Day, the Deputy Director-General of the National Service Authority, Fuseini Donkor revealed, “Muntaka was the fifth person on board with Dr Omane Boamah, then Ato dragged him out. Ato said no because we have a meeting with the immigration guys, and I need you there.

He was supposed to go, but Murtala was not on the flight. Murtala was not on the flight. So when Ato insisted and dragged Muntaka out, that was when Murtala replaced him for the vacant seat, then Murtala replaced him. That was why people started mentioning his name when it happened”.

He added, “The recurrence of that National security threat has always been recurring at Obusai. This was actually going to lunch and take them away from the galamsey to a responsible kind of mining”.

The NDC man further revealed that Dr Sarpong also stepped in to replace the NDC National Chairman, Asiedu Nketia, with the party’s General Secretary, asking him to replace them.

He continued. “The party needed a representation, but then yesterday was the Generals’ off day as well so he didn’t go, and the general secretary was like Dr Sarpong, you are from Kumasi, you are just going home so let the car take the lead joined the Heli when they finished the program, the car will take you from Obuasi back to Kumasi. That was how Dr Sarpong was on board”.

According to him, Sammy Gyamfi was also supposed to be there because it was mining.

Desmond Ackah, the GNFS Head of Public Relations, revealed that an investigation is underway to identify the cause of the crash.

Desmond Ackah explained, “For crashes of this nature, it does not just warrant the response of the GNFS alone. A lot of factors are involved.

Desmond Ackah explained, “For crashes of this nature, it does not just warrant the response of the GNFS alone. A lot of factors are involved.

We do interagency response, and we are heavily involved, especially with rescue, extrication, and any fire hazards”.

In addition, Sabah Zita Benson, Ghana’s High Commissioner to the United Kingdom and Northern Ireland, has said someone in the Ghana Armed Forces may have fiddled with the helicopter that crashed.

According to Sabah Zita Benson, the military is partisan, and the crash site must be preserved for an investigation to be conducted.

Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, the former vice president, has expressed deep sorrow over the deaths of eight individuals in the tragic military helicopter crash at Adansi Akrofuom District of the Ashanti Region on Wednesday, August 6.

Dr Bawumia revealed he had personally conveyed his condolences to President John Dramani Mahama.

He added that the fallen men paid the ultimate price in the service of our motherland, leaving a shocked nation in pain.

Bawumia, in his statement, wrote, “A while ago, I communicated to the President of the Republic, H.E. John Dramani Mahama, my deepest condolences following the heart-wrenching news of the loss of two of our nation’s Ministers and six others in a helicopter crash earlier today.

The fallen men paid the ultimate price in the service of our motherland, leaving a shocked nation in pain”.

Dr Bawumia added that he knows most of the deceased personally and equally feel a sense of loss.  

His statement added, “I know most of the deceased personally and equally feel a sense of loss to see their demise under such horrid circumstances.

Samira, I, the Bawumia family, and the NPP join the nation in mourning them. May the good Lord grant the bereaved families, the Government and people of Ghana strength and healing in this time of tragedy.”

Dr Joshua Zaato, a political Science lecturer at the University of Ghana, has said the National Democratic Congress (NDC) government has introduced eleven taxes since it came into power on January 7, 2025.

According to Dr Zaato, NDC’s eleven taxes, six of them directly affect the transport sector.

Speaking on TV3 Big Issues on Wednesday, 6 August 2025, Dr Joshua Zaato said, “Since this government has taken over, they have introduced up to eleven different taxes. We can run through them now, but six of them directly affect the transport sector”.

“We were told, clearly, that the increase in the D-levy will not lead to increases in the pump”, he added.

Dr Zaato’s comments come following the Ghana Road Transport Coordinating Council announcement that transport fares will go up by 20% effective Friday, August 8, 2025.

According to the Ghana Road Transport Coordinating Council, the directive is in collaboration with transport unions.

In a statement signed by Emmanuel Ohene-Yeboah, General Secretary, and Alhaji Tanko, Acting National Chairman of the Council revealed that the price increase is due to three key developments.

The transport operators stated that despite the implementation of a 15% fare reduction on May 21, 2025, the price of spare parts, goods, and services has not experienced a corresponding reduction.

The introduction of a GH¢1.00 per litre fuel levy has led to an estimated 8% increase in fuel prices.

Also, the rising cost of maintenance costs due to deteriorating road conditions across the country.

The 20 per cent increase will affect taxis, intra-city trotro services, long-distance intercity transport, and haulage.

The statement added that, “All commercial transport operators and companies are to comply with the new fares and visibly post them at their loading terminals”.

Transport operators have also been instructed to comply with the new fares.

They also urged commuters, transport operators to cooperate for the smooth implementation of the revised fares.

Meanwhile, the Ghana Private Road Transport Union (GPRTU) has distanced itself from the Ghana Road Transport Coordinating Council’s 20 per cent transport fare hike on Friday, August 8, 2025.

Samuel Amoah, the Public Relations Officer of the GPRTU, revealed that the decision by the Ghana Road Transport Coordinating Council was unilateral.

Speaking on JoyNews on Tuesday, August 5, Samuel Amoah stated, “Yes, we’ve seen the release from GRTCC talking about the increasing transport fares by 20% this Friday. When we saw the communique, we were a bit surprised, because we had no idea about this very increment”.

“What we normally do is that anytime there has to be an increment, the GPRTU, the GRTCC and the Transport Ministry will all come up with a joint statement. This has been the norm and what we’ve been practising for all this time. So this time around, when we saw this communique, we were a bit surprised,” he added.

He added, “It’s very new to us. And two, we are not part of whatever agreement that they had. We were not informed, as we normally do. Nothing of that sort came to us as GPRTU.”

In addition, the Chamber of Petroleum Consumers (COPEC) has rejected the transport fare hike announced by the Ghana Road Transport Coordinating Council (GRTCC).

According to COPEC, the proposed fare hike is unjustifiable given the current economic pressures on ordinary Ghanaians.

COPEC argued that the reasons stated by the Ghana Road Transport Coordinating Council cannot be used as a basis for punishing the suffering Ghanaian

According to Abronye, Nigel Gaisie is more qualified than Malik Basintale, but because of propaganda, he has been made CEO.

Abronye stated that Prophet Nigel Gaisie is more academically qualified than Basintale, yet has not been appointed to any such public position due to political propaganda.

Speaking on his Ohiani TV on August 4, 2025, “Nigel Gaisie went to the same Legon [University of Ghana] that you couldn’t complete. He has all the certificates and is more qualified than you, but because of propaganda, you have been made CEO”.

“If he were made CEO instead, it would be better,” Abronye stated.

Abronye’s criticism comes after Malik Basintale visited Prophet Nigel Gaisie, Leader of the Prophetic Hill Chapel, at his church.

Basintale, delivering a speech when he visited Nigel Gaisie at his church on Sunday, August 3, 2025, revealed that President Mahama is working hard.

He noted, the third term agenda will be possible if the President is seen to be performing well by Ghanaians, but noted it will be problematic if Mahama’s performance badly.

According to Basintale, the only qualification one needs to serve the Ghanaian people is to achieve results.

When asked how he reacts to allegations of him not having the required qualification to lead the YEA upon taking over from the outgoing YEA boss, Kofi Agyepong.

He responded bluntly, “The biggest qualification is to create jobs for the Ghanaian people. Once we do that, we are qualified to continue serving the Ghanaian people.”

Chief of Staff Julius Debrah expressed the government’s deep sorrow and stated, “The President and the government extend condolences to the families of our comrades who died in service to the country. All flags are to fly at half-mast until further notice,” he said.

Also, Education Minister Haruna Iddrisu has revealed that President John Mahama is devastated and heartbroken.

Speaking to JoyNews Haruna Iddrisu stated, “The President is down, down, down emotionally. We pray that God will give him the fortitude and the Ghanaian people the strength to accept this tragic loss.”

Chief of Staff Julius Debrah has announced that President John Dramani Mahama has directed all national flags to be flown at half-mast in honour of the late Dr. Edward Omane Boamah, Minister for Defence, and Ibrahim Murtala Mohammed and others who died in the tragic GAF accident.

Dr Omane Boamah, Minister for Defence and Minister for Environment, Science, and Technology, Ibrahim Murtala Mohammed, passed away in a helicopter crash.

The helicopter was carrying eight individuals, including three crew members and five passengers, among them the ministers, a presidential staffer identified as Samuel Sarpong, and the ministers’ security detail.

According to reports, all victims were tragically burnt beyond recognition.

The news was confirmed by the Chief of Staff, Julius Debrah, in an address from the presidency.

A viral video has emerged of a self-acclaimed man of God, Samuel Henry, also known as Prophet Roja, who predicted the passing of the Defence Minister, Dr Omane Boahmah.

In the viral video, Prophet Roja stated, “Who is the minister for defence right now, Omane Boamah? Wherever he is, he should call me; I have a very deep message for him. So wherever Minister Omane Boamah is, when he sees this video, he should call me”.

“My name is Prophet Roja. When he sees this video, he should call me, and I will not say the message. Anyone close to the minister of defence should show him this video and let him call me”, he added.

In a separate video, Prophet Roja added, “God is speaking to me right now, on the 29th of July, 2025. Please record this. Let all Christians in Ghana pray. This is a conditional prophecy. What I am seeing is that there is going to be a plane crash. I see a plane mid-air, and then it suddenly crashes. When it crashes, the number of survivors is up to 25. It is travelling from Accra to Kumasi”.

Solomon Owusu, a leading member of the Movement for Change, has urged Ghanaian dancehall artist Charles Nii Armah, popularly known as Shatta Wale, not to expose himself to further questions.

According to Solomon Owusu, Shatta Wale must get a professional to handle his issues with EOCO instead of ranting on TikTok live.

The Movement for Change asserted that Shatta Wale is an icon and has so much influence on the youth.

Speaking on TV3 NEW DAY on August 6, 2025, Solomon Owusu stated, “Shatta must reorganise himself and then get professionals to handle some of these things, rather than immediately when EOCO calls, you won’t go.

Your car has been taken, in another breadth, you are saying I would even leave the car. Who will leave a $150,000 car to an institution that does not deserve that? Mr brother, don’t open yourself up to further questions”.

Mr Owusu added, “He is an icon. I have said that this musician, if you were in a country that was properly organised, they would be drafted into our National Security and they would be used to pursue a National agenda.

He has so much influence on the youths that he can direct his energy, you see a lot of the young ones with rasta, they learnt it from Shatta Wale. He is an Icon, whatever he does, the youths like it”.

Solomon Owusu also noted that Shatta Wale can be used by the nation to change the mindsets of Ghanaian youths.

“So if you are a country and you want to move the youth to a certain direction, they are the sort of people that you use, so that we guide them to deliver for the state”, he added.

Solomon Owusu concluded that Shatta Wale’s TikTok live response was totally needless.

His comments come following Shatta Wale, who ranted on TikTok, crying out that he bought his luxury Lamborghini Urus $150,000.

According to Shatta Wale, he did not know the car was from the embattled former senior officer of the National Signal Bureau (NSB), Adu Boahene.

Shatta Wale, in a TikTok live session, angrily distanced himself from the ‘stolen’ Lamborghini retrieved by EOCO from his residence.

He further claimed he was merely a third party and had no knowledge of who shipped the car into the country.

Shatta Wale stated, “I bought the Lamborghini for $150,000 and didn’t know it was from Adu Boahene. I’m leaving the car for you people, don’t come to my house, and let nobody invite me.”

“Raymond Archer, I will leave the car for you people. Don’t come to my house. Don’t let anybody invite me. That’s why I have bought a new Lamborghini,” he fumed.

Shatta Wale further moaned about the treatment he has received despite his contributions to the Ghanaian music industry.

He boldly added that the ongoing situation would push him into politics.

“My music, the way I have suffered, and how they are treating me in this country, one day I will wake up and become president”.

Shatta Wale further lamented that he was being harassed by EOCO because of Adu-Boahene.

According to Shatta Wale, he has no business relationship with Kwabena Adu-Boahene.

“I bought the Lamborghini for $150,000 and didn’t know it was from Adu Boahene. I’m leaving the car for you people, don’t come to my house, and let nobody invite me.”

He added, “Shatta Adu-Boahene is going down. Listen to this carefully so that if anyone comes to my house and I say I won’t go anywhere, they don’t come and say I didn’t try. It is too much; you are using power to abuse people.

He told me Adu-Boahene is going down, and if I want to go down with him, he doesn’t give a f**k about it. He is telling me that if I don’t show them where Adu Boahene’s cars he’s given me are, he will give me to the FBI”.

Shatta Wale’s remarks come after his luxury Lamborghini Urus was seized by the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO).

Kwesi Pratt Jr, a veteran journalist and managing editor of the Insight Newspaper, has waded into the conversation of some Ghanaians calling on John Mahama to run for a third term. 

According to Kwesi Pratt, it is extremely foolish for people to suggest that out of 35 million citizens of Ghana, only one Ghanaian can be a good President. 

Kwesi Pratt Jr asserted that he has known President Mahama for a very long time and knows he is not power-hungry, but his silence only encourages those calls.

He urged President John Dramani Mahama to break his silence on calls from some sections of Ghanaians calling on him to run for a third term.

Kwesi Pratt emphasised that it is difficult to escape the cacophony of calls for the amendment of the 1992 Constitution to make it possible for President John Dramani Mahama to contest elections for a third term.

In a post on X, Kwesi Pratt wrote, “The suggestion that out of 35 million citizens of Ghana, only one person can be a good President is extremely foolish and must not be encouraged.

I have known President #Mahama for a very long time, and I am convinced that he is not power-hungry, but his silence on this issue only encourages those who seek to misuse his popularity and apparent good work”.

Mr Pratt further encouraged Mahama to speak out against the agitation from very strange sources that want to make him the King of Ghana. 

He revealed he is deeply worried by this development, as lessons from history only show that it leads to total disaster for everybody.

Kwesi Pratt added,“ It is difficult to escape the cacophony of calls for the amendment of the 1992 #Constitution to make it possible for President John Dramani Mahama (@JDMahama) to contest elections for a third term.

I am deeply worried by this development because I am keenly aware of the lessons of history which teach that this apparent orchestration can only lead to total disaster for everybody”.

He recounted, “General Kutu #Acheampong’s government was undoubtedly one of the best since independence.

It was fully committed to the national liberation struggle throughout Africa. It made Ghana self-sufficient in food production in its first few years. It built estate houses for workers everywhere. It generally improved the national infrastructure and was very popular until the dying years of the 1970s.

Acheampong’s popularity took a nose-dive when he sought to introduce the Union Government idea, and the general perception was that he wanted to extend his stay in power indefinitely”.

Kwesi Pratt added that the massive resistance and crucial state resources were diverted from production and put into useless charm projects, with the economy also suffering.

He added, “Acheampong became very unpopular and in the end, he and some of his associates paid a very high price with their lives. We should not forget that #history has a way of repeating itself”.

Equally, Kwesi Pratt, speaking in an interview on Peace FM’s Kokrokoo, warned there will be strong resistance if President John Mahama attempts to run for a third term.

He, however, dismissed the allegation, stating that there is no suggestion that Mahama is pursuing such a plan.

Speaking in an interview on Peace FM’s Kokrokoo, Kwesi Pratt stated, “As I sit here, it is not only about President John Dramani Mahama. Any president who attempts to amend the Constitution to extend their tenure beyond two terms will face strong opposition. It is not right, so if Mahama ever attempts a third term, we will fight him squarely”.

“However, there is no indication that a constitutional review is being carried out for this purpose. What kind of issue is this? When it comes to constitutional amendments, Nana Addo also formed a committee to review the constitution. Does that mean he wanted a third term? Prof Mills did the same; does it mean he also sought a third term?”, he added.

It will be recalled that NPP’s Justin Frimpong Kodua started the third term talks when he accused the NDC and John Mahama of plotting to remove Chief Justice Gertrude Araba Torkornoo to enable President John Dramani Mahama to contest for a third presidential term.

He claimed that the argument revolves around Article 66(2) of the Constitution.

Justin Frimpong Kodua noted that some individuals are allegedly planning to interpret Article 66(2) of the Constitution in a way that implies the two-term limit applies only to two successive terms.

Kofi Ofosu Nkansah, the former Chief Executive of the National Entrepreneurship & Innovation Programme (NEIP), has said he never contracted the Host of With All Due Respect on Loud Silence TV, Kevin Taylor, to sabotage Kennedy Agyapong’s 2023 campaign.

According to Kofi Ofosu Nkansah, those allegations levelled against him of contracting Kevin Taylor to derail Kennedy Agyapong’s 2023 campaign flagbearer campaign are false.

Speaking on Movement TV, Kofi Ofosu Nkansah stated, “Someone commented on my Facebook wall that no reasonable person in the NPP will believe Kevin Taylor, but unfortunately, some people believe what he said.

All the things he said about Kennedy Agyapong were lies. Kevin Taylor did not come to campaign for us. All the things he said about Kennedy, he did not provide any evidence to support them. All the things he said about me and others, he has never provided evidence to support them.

Today, a big defamation is on him; yesterday, I saw Ace Ankomah is also chasing him. He was smuggled into this country because of the judicial reset”, he added.

The NPP man asserted that he respects Kennedy Agyapong so much and will not speak ill against him, even though he supported Dr Mahamudu Bawumia.

Ofosu Nkansah explained, “I respect Kennedy Agyapong so much, and I won’t speak against him. Even though I didn’t support his bid, I would never do such a thing because we are all members of the same party, and we will need each other for the general elections”.

“So, the assertions that I contracted Kevin Taylor to destroy Kennedy Agyapong are completely false. I haven’t done such a thing, and I won’t do that.”

Ofosu Nkansah noted that Kevin Taylor’s comments made back in 2023 during the NPP internal campaign period are now being used to hash a fake plot against him.

“Kevin Taylor made those statements in 2023, during the campaign period, and some people are now using that to fabricate stories against me,” he added.

In related news, Kofi Ofosu Nkansah has also called on the Kennedy Agyapong team to stop labelling Dr Mahamudu Bawumia as the cause of the NPP’s defeat in the 2024 election.

According to Kofi Ofosu Nkansah, Kennedy Agyapong has always insisted that the NPP lost the 2024 election in  2022 due to the economic crisis Ghanaians faced.

He noted that if Kennedy Agyapong made those assertions, anyone who represented the NPP in the 2024 elections would have lost.

In a post via social media, Kofi Ofosu Nkansah stated, “If Hon Ken admits we lost the election in 2022, then it simply means that even if he had won the primaries, we would have still lost.”

“His People should stop blaming Dr Bawumia for our defeat then. We lost the election through our collective actions, not because of our candidate”, he added.

Kofi Ofosu Nkansah further recounted that Kennedy Agyapong cannot shirk himself from the NPP’s defeat as he was a Board Chairman of one of Ghana’s biggest state institutions.

He highlighted, “Ken supporters should stop saying their candidate wasn’t part of the Government. He was the Board Chairman of one of the biggest state institutions, Ghana Gas. His wife was also a big Board Chair.

Ofosu Nkansah noted that Mr Agyapong had more influence in the Government than 99% of NPP appointees.

He had more influence in the Government than 99% of NPP appointees, even when he wasn’t an appointee in the first term. Me that I was CEO of an agency which was like an Internet cafe (ADC) koraa wouldn’t say I wasn’t part of the Government then. Monnya saa ns3m no ka,” he added in a post shared via social media.

“We were expecting at least ¢4000” – Cocoa farmer on new producer price

A cocoa farmer identified as Emmanuel Nodjo has expressed his displeasure at the government’s new producer price for cocoa for the 2025/26 season.

According to the cocoa farmer, they were expecting a minimum of GH¢4000, as the GH¢3,228.75 is still small.

He further revealed that many cocoa farmers are not very happy with the price.

Speaking on JoyNews’ PM Express on Tuesday, August 5, Emmanuel Nodjo stated bluntly, “We were expecting better than this, so the price is not encouraging”.

“The farmers are not very happy with the price,” he said.

The cocoa farmer added, “The price is not appreciating, and we are not happy. We were expecting better than this, at least ¢4000, but it didn’t happen. That should be a minimum; the GH¢3,228.75 is still small, and farmers are not happy.

 It will be recalled that the NDC in opposition promised cocoa farmers that when they win power, they would pay cocoa farmers GH₵6,000 per bag; however, the NDC government, on August 4, announced GHS3,228.75 per bag.

The minority MPs have since been criticising the government over their failure to fulfil their promise.

Alexander Afenyo-Markin, the minority leader in parliament, has called out the John Mahama-led National Democratic Congress (NDC).

Afenyo Markin called out the NDC government, stating that their promise of GHC6,000 per bag for cocoa farmers was a “betrayal” as they delivered only GHC3,228.

Afenyo Markin is quoted by TV3 as saying, NDC promised cocoa farmers GHC6,000 per bag. Today, they delivered GHC3,228; barely half of what they pledged. Spin it all you want; it’s a betrayal, another broken promise”.

Another NPP MP, Kojo Oppong Nkrumah, the Member of Parliament for Ofoase-Ayirebi, has asked the National Democratic Congress government if the Producer Price of Cocoa for the 2025/2026 season is what the promised cocoa farmers in the 2024 elections.

Oppong Nkrumah noted that the NDC government always try to hide the truth, but they are going to work the numbers.

According to him, one must ask oneself how much Akufo-Addo increased cocoa prices during his tenure and compare that to what John Mahama and Ato Forson have done.

Speaking to the media, Kojo Oppong Nkrumah detailed, “We are just working the numbers, we have just come out of a meeting, and we have seen percentages, and they are using the dollar. You know, the NDC, what they do is they try to hide the truth, so you have to take your time and work the numbers.

The most important thing, and I encourage all of you and your newsrooms to do pick the cedi value of a bag of cocoa on the market today, compare it to the new price they have announced and see”.

He noted that “Somebody is telling me the change is about 100 cedis or something. Is that what they told the farmers? Is that what Ato Forson told the farmers is that what he told them. So please, if the change is 128 cedis, ask yourself the last time Akufo-Addo increased a bag of cocoa, how much did he increase it by, and when Ato Forson and President Mahama increased a bag of cocoa, how much did they increase it?

At the end of the day, that is the analysis. Go and ask the farmers on the ground, they will tell you”.

In addition, Rev John Ntim Fordjour, the Assin South member of parliament, has accused John Mahama and the National Democratic Congress (NDC) of deceiving Ghana’s cocoa farmers.

According to Ntim Fordjour,  cocoa farmers are highly disappointed in the deception of the NDC and President John Mahama.

In a post on social media, Rev Ntim Fordjour stated, “Cocoa farmers are highly disappointed in the deception of NDC and Prez Mahama’s government”.

He further described the NDC pledge as politically misleading: “They later promised to pay GH₵7,200 per bag in 2025”.

“Today, cocoa farmers are shortchanged with paltry GH₵3,228 per bag”, he added.

Meanwhile, the Minority have also rejected the new producer price for cocoa and is demanding an apology to cocoa farmers and accuses the government of deception over pricing.

The Ghana Private Road Transport Union (GPRTU) has distanced itself from the Ghana Road Transport Coordinating Council’s 20 per cent transport fare hike on Friday, August 8, 2025.

According to the GPRTU, they were surprised by the 20 per cent transport fare announcement as they were not consulted.

Samuel Amoah, the Public Relations Officer of the GPRTU, revealed that the decision by the Ghana Road Transport Coordinating Council was unilateral.

Speaking on JoyNews on Tuesday, August 5, Samuel Amoah stated, “Yes, we’ve seen the release from GRTCC talking about the increasing transport fares by 20% this Friday. When we saw the communique, we were a bit surprised, because we had no idea about this very increment”.

“What we normally do is that anytime there has to be an increment, the GPRTU, the GRTCC and the Transport Ministry will all come up with a joint statement. This has been the norm and what we’ve been practising for all this time. So this time around, when we saw this communique, we were a bit surprised,” he added.

He added, “It’s very new to us. And two, we are not part of whatever agreement that they had. We were not informed, as we normally do. Nothing of that sort came to us as GPRTU.”

The GPRTU comments come after the Ghana Road Transport Coordinating Council announced that transport fares will go up by 20% effective Friday, August 8, 2025.

According to the Ghana Road Transport Coordinating Council, the directive is in collaboration with transport unions.

In their statement, signed by Emmanuel Ohene-Yeboah, General Secretary, and Alhaji Tanko, Acting National Chairman of the Council, revealed that the price increase is due to three key developments.

The transport operators stated that despite the implementation of a 15% fare reduction on May 21, 2025, the price of spare parts, goods, and services has not experienced a corresponding reduction.

The introduction of a GH¢1.00 per litre fuel levy has led to an estimated 8% increase in fuel prices.

Also, the rising cost of maintenance costs due to deteriorating road conditions across the country.

Meanwhile, the Chamber of Petroleum Consumers (COPEC) has rejected the transport fare hike announced by the Ghana Road Transport Coordinating Council (GRTCC).

According to COPEC, the proposed fare hike is unjustifiable given the current economic pressures on ordinary Ghanaians.

Duncan Amoah, the Executive Secretary of COPEC, revealed that his checks from the transport unions and the Ghana Private Road Transport Union (GPRTU) indicate no decision has been made to increase fares by 20 per cent on Friday, August 8.

COPEC argued that the reasons stated by the Ghana Road Transport Coordinating Council cannot be used as a basis for punishing the suffering Ghanaian

COPEC in a statement stated, “On the balance of odds or numbers, the pricing levels as of today are still not anywhere near the January prices from which transport fare discussions could be had, and such is our surprise at the attempts by a section of transport operators to justify a further increase in fares as of this time”.

“The above argument, though true, cannot and should not be the basis for punishing the suffering Ghanaian masses as the overall effect of the new One Ghana levy is still not sufficient to wipe out the sustained reductions recorded at the pumps over the past couple of months”.

The statement added, “It is imperative to note that, an intention which has not yet been enforced cannot and should not form the basis of any increases in transport fares as the effects will not only be felt by the already suffering masses but will further diffuse genuine outcry by the people for the cost of goods and services to be reduced across all sectors to bring some relief”.

He further claimed he was merely a third party and had no knowledge of who shipped the car into the country.

The danchall artist in a live session on TikTok narrated, “Raymond Archer, I will leave the car for you people. Don’t come to my house. Don’t let anybody invite me. That’s why I have bought a new Lamborghini”.

“After this matter, Raymond Archer, don’t even try to invite me else it will be worse in this country.”

Shatta Wale further moaned about the treatment he has received despite his contributions to the Ghanaian music industry.

He boldly added that the ongoing situation would push him into politics.

“My music, the way I have suffered, and how they are treating me in this country, one day I will wake up and become president”.

Shatta Wale further lamented that he was being harassed by EOCO because of Adu-Boahene.

According to Shatta Wale, he has no business relationship with Kwabena Adu-Boahene.

“I bought the Lamborghini for $150,000 and didn’t know it was from Adu Boahene. I’m leaving the car for you people, don’t come to my house, and let nobody invite me.”

According to EOCO, Shatta Wale’s Lamborghini Urus is linked to one Nana Kwabena Amuah, who is currently serving an 86-month sentence in the United States.

EOCO, in a press release on August 5, 2025, revealed Shatta Wale’s Trassaco Valley residence was searched in June after the FBI and the U.S. Justice Department requested it in 2023.

The Economic and Organised Crime Office, in their statement signed by Raymond Archer, the acting Executive, read, “In June this year, the Economic and Organized Crime Office acting on a 2023 request from the Federal Bureau of Investigations (FBI) and the United States Justice Department undertook an operation which led to a lawful search in a home at Trassaco Valley Phase 1. in Accra.

The operation which was undertaken by the Survelillance And Asset Recovery Unit (SARU) of EOCO led to the discovery and seizure of a 2019 Lamborghini Urus which the the FBI and the Justice Department have tied to the proceeds of the criminal enterprise of one Nana Kwabena Amuah who is currently serving an 86 month sentence for several financial crimes in the US”.

The statement added, “The car was seized from one Charles Nii Armah, aka Shatta Wale. The officers were professional and civil, and the search and seizure occurred without incident.

Nii Armah had pleaded with officers that he did not want the seizure to be made public because the vehicle was a big part of his brand, and that if his supporters saw the vehicle being driven away in the company of EOCO, it would destroy his brand”.

According to EOCO, Shatta Wale was allowed to surrender the vehicle after he pleaded that it would destroy his brand.

EOCO statement added, “Nii Armah was allowed to surrender the vehicle himself, which is currently in the possession of EOCO.

In related news on stolen luxury vehicles in Ghana, COP Lydia Yaako Donkor, the Director General of the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) of the Ghana Police Service, just a day ago announced that they have impounded 43 high-value luxury vehicles stolen from across Europe.

According to COP Lyida Donkor, the high-value luxury vehicles were stolen from the Netherlands, Spain, Belgium, Canada, the USA, Germany, Italy, and France.

The CID Director General revealed that a collaboration between the CID, Customs and Interpol, DIGIPOL, and the FBI led to the recovery of about 43 vehicles.

Speaking at a press briefing on Monday, August 4, 2025, COP Lydia Donkor detailed, “These 43 vehicles are mainly high-value luxury vehicles such as Rolls-Royce, Audi Q8, Porsche, BMW, Mercedes-Benz, etc., stolen from countries such as the Netherlands, Spain, Belgium, Canada, USA, Germany, Italy, and France”

“Out of the 43 vehicles that have been impounded, investigations have been completed, and the courts have ordered that 18 of them should be repatriated to the countries of origin.

“Eight have already been repatriated, while ten are pending. Repatriation cases on the remaining 25 are still pending in court,” she said.

COP Lyida Donkor further detailed how the criminals smuggled 43 stolen luxury vehicles into Ghana.

She revealed that a special CID task force, set up to tackle vehicle-related crimes, gathered intelligence exposing the car smuggling criminal scheme.

She revealed that the vehicles are often rented from car rental companies in Ghana under false pretences.

“These criminals rent vehicles using fake identities. While the rental agreement is still valid, they secretly arrange for the vehicles to be shipped out.

Once they receive confirmation that the vehicle has been successfully exported, they stop paying the rental fees and cut off communication with the rental company,” she explained.

“The optics are correct” – Adom-Otchere praises Mahama’s performance so far

Paul Adom-Otchere, the host of Good Evening Ghana, has heaped praises on President John Dramani Mahama for his performance so far after his return to office.

According to Adom-Otchere, the optics look good for President Mahama as all micro indicators are coming up strong.

The broadcaster, however, noted that it is early days yet and John Mahama must be given a little more time.

He added that despite his uncertainties about specific programs, the Mahama government’s overall performance has been laudable.

Speaking on the Point of View show on Channel TV, Adom-Otchere stated, “So far, I think it’s early, but in terms of his optics, I think it’s fine, all the micro indicators are coming up strong”.

Adom-Otchere reasoned that the new government tend to spend what the previous government left and therefore called for more time for the government in terms of the economy.

“In terms of economic performance, I think we need to give him [Mahama] a bit of time, but certainly the optics are correct, and certainly he was popularly elected,” he stated.

In a related economic news, Dr Cassiel Ato Forson has said he firmly believes Ghana will end 2025 with single-digit inflation.

Ato Forson revealed the country is well ahead of the government’s official projection.

Speaking in an interview on JOY NEWS Thursday, July 24, Ato Forson detailed, “I am of the firm belief that by the end of the year, we will be entering single digits, for a reason”.

“Based on the trajectory, we are now at 13.7%. The Producer Price Inflation, for example, moved from 10-point-something to 5.9% last month. And based on that, I expect that next month inflation will go down, and if it does, then I believe that by the end of December, we should be able to achieve that”.

“As I have said, even though I still maintain the target of 11.9%, I said again in the speech, we’ll be achieving our target ahead of schedule,” he added.

Also, the Bank of Ghana decreased its benchmark policy rate by 300 basis points, from 28% to 25%.

Dr Johnson Asiama, the Governor of the Bank of Ghana, revealed the cut was due to improved macroeconomic conditions, easing inflation, and appreciation of the cedi.

Meanwhile, Paul Adom-Otchere, on the Point of View show on Channel TV, also broke his silence after he was detained by the Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP).

According to Paul Adom-Otchere, he was not maltreated by anyone, as it was a normal place where the OSP detain Ghanaians.

He revealed that he was in a room with other people, with the facility having basic conditions.

Paul Adom-Otchere detailed, “It’s a normal place they detain every Ghanaian. You are detained with people who are also detained. Nobody maltreated anyone. That is for sure. It’s a state-owned”

“Yes, yes, you will be in a room with other people. It depends on the numbers they have, usually about 25 people, not in the same room. I was in a room with other people.”

He added that the detainees were given basic necessities.

“They give you a mattress, yes, for now, it’s a double mattress, I think, because of the floor, and they give you a blanket; they treat you well. They provide clothes. I wasn’t due for a change of clothes yet because it was overnight. And by mid-day, they said we should get ready,” he explained.

Paul Adom-Octhere also added that access to the outside world was not allowed.

“You can’t contact anyone,” he revealed.

Paul Adom-Otchere further clarified that his supporters were protesting bail terms, not defending wrongdoing.

He added, “All those people whom I said thank you to, who’d expressed concern, I have seen some spin on social media. They were not expressing the concern that Paul Adom-Otchere has done something wrong, and he is above the law, and you cannot touch.

“No! They were expressing concern that the bail conditions that the OSP gave were too harsh and unreasonable, and actually unknown to the jurisprudence,” he explained.
