A station master at the Ashaley Botwe Lorry Station have been detained over an alleged plot to murder a woman over a GH¢91,810 debt.
The suspects, 44-year-old Abubakari Ateni, the current station master, and 45-year-old Eric Tetteh, a former station master, are accused of planning her murder after she demanded repayment of what she was owed.
Police reveal that Abubakari, who also served as the woman’s errand driver, was allegedly advised by Eric to eliminate her to avoid further embarrassment.
The suspects reportedly tried to strangle her themselves, but when that didn’t go as planned, they hired someone else to carry out the killing.
However, they later discovered that the person they contacted was actually an informant working with the Madina Divisional Police.
According to reports, Madina Divisional Police Commander, Chief Superintendent Dr Aba Afari the alleged plot followed a misunderstanding between the woman and Abubakari over a GH₵91,810 debt.
The police disclosed that the suspects allegedly paid GH₵2,000 upfront to the person they believed was a hired killer, with an additional GH₵3,000 promised after the murder was carried out.
The plot was for the hired assailant to shoot the woman while Abubakari was driving her home and then stage the incident as a robbery.
However, the plan took an unexpected turn when the supposed hitman turned out to be a community volunteer who works with the Madina Police in the fight against crime.
The community volunteer subsequently informed the police about the alleged murder plot and arranged for the arrest of the suspects.
Chief Superintendent Dr Aba Afari revealed that the suspects were arrested on Thursday, September 2, while they were preparing to execute the plan.
Dr Aba Afari further assured residents of Madina of the Police Command’s commitment to protecting lives and property, commending the officers involved in the investigation for uncovering and foiling the alleged murder plot.
Meanwhile, the two suspects remain in police custody as investigations continue.
In other news, General Lance Corporal Nicholas Ohene Ampong Kissi, a Police Officer with the Ghana Police Service, has made a wild allegation against his fellow officers.
The Police Officer alleged that station Officers at Mataheko and Odorkor police barracks are allegedly selling ammunition to armed robbers to kill fellow officers and attack civilians.
According to him, some hardened criminals have allegedly taken over the Mataheko and Odorkor police barracks, raising alarm over the alleged criminal activities in the areas.
In a video shared on Crime Check TV, the Police Officer stated, “At Mataheko Police Barracks and Odorkor Police Barracks, the current station officer is selling ammunition to armed robbers to go and kill their own police officers and attack civilians.
At Odorkor Police Barracks, hardened criminals have taken over the place and two of them came and assaulted me. One slapped me twice.
“I had intelligence that they were operating around the area and as a result, I was attacked. So, if the IGP gets this video, investigate this matter,” he said.
General Lance Corporal Nicholas Ohene Ampong Kissi was later seen at a police hospital, where he displayed a medical report bearing the police logo to authenticate his claim of having been assaulted.
Meanwhile, reports suggest the Police Officer has since called on the Inspector-General of Police to investigate the allegations and take the necessary action.
