A 36-year-old East Legon businessman has been arrested for the alleged non-consensual sharing of intimate images and online sexual exploitation.

Joshua Kojo Anane Boateng, a resident of East Legon in Accra, has been identified as the suspect.

His arrest follows a joint intelligence-led operation by the Cyber Crime Unit and the Bureau of National Investigations (BNI).

On Tuesday, May 12, the Director-General of the CID, Commissioner of Police Lydia Yaako Donkor, briefed the media and revealed that the suspect operated on the Telegram platform known as “VIP Sleep Fetish 2025”.

She disclosed that the suspect used alprazolam, known as Xanax, to drug unsuspecting female victims before sexually abusing them, adding that he later recorded the acts and shared the content online without their consent.

The CID boss detailed that the suspect also frequented nightclubs in 2025, where he allegedly sedated and sexually assaulted victims before disseminating their intimate images.

She disclosed that following his arrest, police retrieved several items, including two iPhones, a feature phone, a memory card, a Seagate external hard drive, a MacBook laptop, an iSafe device, and empty sachets believed to have contained alprazolam and midazolam.

She further added that the suspect has been arraigned before the court, while investigations are ongoing.

Also, , Lydia Yaako Donkor, has announced the arrest of three Ghanaians in connection with the production and distribution of child sexual abuse material.

According to Lydia Yaako Donkor, their arrest follows a joint operation involving the Australian Federal Police and Interpol.

She revealed that the arrests form part of investigations into an international child exploitation case linked to an Australian offender standing trial.

Briefing the media on Tuesday, May 12, she disclosed that the suspect was arrested for taking, production, publication and processing of indecent images and videos involving children.

Lydia Yaako Donkor explained that Interpol Accra received intelligence in January 2026 from Interpol Canberra and the Crimes Against Children Unit of the Interpol General Secretariat regarding a child sexual exploitation case linked to Ghana.

Meanwhile, the CID boss further disclosed that the Police will soon roll out a nationwide sensitisation programme to educate the public on child sexual abuse.

“It has come to the attention of the police administration that this type of crime is increasing because it is relatively easy to commit, difficult to detect and financially rewarding.

“I want to caution the general public that the police are actively collaborating with international partners and all relevant stakeholders to combat this crime, which dehumanises victims, negatively affects their self-esteem and places their future in jeopardy,” she said.
