Businessman Daniel Ofori wins court case against Ecobank

Daniel Ofori, a Ghanaian businessman, has won a court case against Ecobank Ghana at the Supreme Court.  

The Supreme Court of Ghana on Wednesday, 6 May 2025, dismissed an application filed by Ecobank Ghana seeking to set aside an entry of judgment stemming from an earlier ruling in favour of Daniel Ofori.

According to the Supreme Court, Daniel Ofori is entitled to monthly compounded interest at an agreed rate of 30 per cent, running from 2 June 2008, the date of the investment, to 25 July 2018.

The news shared by the Ghana Chronicles on X read, “Businessman Daniel Ofori has won a court case against Ecobank. The court confirmed that Mr Ofori is entitled to monthly compounded interest at an agreed rate of 30 per cent, calculated from June 2, 2008, the date of his investment, until July 25, 2018, when the Supreme”.

The Supreme Court also awarded GH¢50,000 in costs against Ecobank Ghana in favour of Dnaiel Ofori.

Daniel Ofori’s legal team was led by Tsatsu Tsikata, Nana Boakye Mensah-Bonsu and Prince Noel Danquah.

Ecobank Ghana was also represented by legal counsel Ace Anan Ankomah, together with Daad Akwesi and Ebo Dantse Benjamin.

In the news story shared by theherald provided, more update which stated, “In its decision delivered on Wednesday, 6 May 2025, the apex court affirmed that Ofori is entitled to monthly compounded interest at an agreed rate of 30 per cent, running from 2 June 2008, the date of the investment, to 25 July 2018, when the Supreme Court first entered judgment in his favour.

The Court further ruled that post-judgment interest will accrue at a rate of 13.5 per cent until full and final settlement of the debt.

The panel indicated that the full reasons for its decision would be released within seven days.

It also awarded GH¢50,000 in costs against Ecobank Ghana in favour of Ofori”.
