Bernard Antwi Boasiako, popularly known as Chairman Wontumi, the Ashanti Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party, has won a defamation suit at the Supreme Court.
Wontumi won the case against Ekwow Spio-Garbrah, the former Minister of Trade and Industry and now Ghana’s Special Envoy for Reparations.
Ekwow Spio-Garbrah sued Wontumi in 2022 at the High Court in Kumasi, seeking $10 million for allegedly defaming him.
According to Ekwow Spio-Garbrah, Wontumi and his media house defamed him by calling him a thief ahead of the 2020 general elections.
However, the Kumasi High Court reportedly threw out the case, citing it had no merit, with Ekwow Spio-Garbrah asked to pay GH¢150,000 as costs.
Reports suggest the Supreme Court heard the appeal on November 12, 2025, and in a unanimous decision, dismissed the appeal filed by Ekwow Spio-Garbrah.
The Law Platform in a post revealed that the Acting Chief Justice, Paul Baffoe-Bonnie, chaired the five-member panel of the Supreme Court made up of Justice Issifu Omoro Tanko Amadu, Justice Emmanuel Yonny Kulendi, Justice Ernest Gaewu, and Justice Henry Anthony Kwofie.
Ekwow Spio-Garbrah, in his writ, stated, “All that Inusah Fuseini is saying is that even he, Inusah Fuseini, is a thief. If you mention Spio-Garbrah’s name, he is a thief, Sylvester Mensah is a thief, Joshua Alabi is a thief, all their presidential candidates are thieves, so if John Mahama is a thief, then let us allow him to continue stealing”.
However, Chairman Wontumi, in his statement, stated he meant no malice but was only interpreting the statement made by Inusah Fuseini.
Meanwhile, Chairman Wontumi was in court for one of his mining cases.
In Court, the state prosecutors in the case against Chairman Wontumiserved notice to the High Court that they will rely on four witnesses in the trial.
Chairman Wontumi, Kwame Antwi pleaded not guilty and are currently on bail.
Furthermore, Prophet Samuel Henry, popularly known as Prophet Roja, has dropped a prophecy regarding Chairman Wontumi.
According to Prophet Roja, Wontumi will be jailed for 15 years if Ghanaians and his loved ones do not pray for him.
He emphasised that Wontumi has wronged someone who is now in a position of power and influence, capable of ensuring his imprisonment.
Prophet Roja emphasised that an urgent spiritual intervention is needed by Wontumi to avert the foretold prophecy.
Speaking on Onua TV with Captain Smart, Prophet Roja stated, “If Ghanaians don’t pray for Wontumi, he would be jailed for 15 years. I am saying it on TV, his loved ones should pray for Wontumi.
It is all over the news, I am seeing that they have written the number 15, and it is on TV that they have jailed Wontumi for 15 years. He should pray hard”.
He further added, “Wontumi stepped on someone’s foot, and that person will sit with him to gain his freedom from what he is going through. There is a communication going on behind his back. If he allows God in his life, Ghanaians will come out to see what I said on the Captain Smart show. I am seeing 15, and it will not be more than that”.
