Disabled father shockingly tied his son to a quad bike, dragging him on the streets

The Ghana Police Service has arrested a  60-year-old man for allegedly assaulting his 16-year-old son at North Legon.

According to the Police statement, the suspect, identified as Eric Mantey, was arrested by the Madina Divisional Police Command and has been formally charged and put before the court.

The Police statement read, “1. The Accra Regional Police Command has arrested a 60-year-old man for allegedly assaulting his 16-year-old biological son at North Legon.

2. Preliminary investigations indicate that on 3rd May 2026, the victim had gone out to play football with friends when the suspect, identified as Eric Mante, reportedly confronted him.

3. Police investigations revealed that the suspect, who is the biological father of the victim and has three children with the victim’s mother, allegedly tied the victim to a quad motorbike and sped off with him. In the process, the victim reportedly fell onto the tarred road near Adonai Church and was dragged along the road, sustaining multiple injuries.

4. The victim’s screams attracted the attention of some residents, including some residents, who intervened and stopped the suspect from further dragging the victim.

5. The victim sustained various degrees of injuries and was rushed to the Legon Hospital for medical treatment, while the suspect was arrested by the Police.

6. During investigations, the suspect admitted to the act and stated that he acted out of anger over the victim’s behaviour. He has since been charged and put before court.

7. The Accra Regional Police Command condemns all forms of violence against children and urges parents and guardians to adopt lawful and non-violent means of disciplining children. The Command further encourages the public to promptly report cases of abuse to the Police or relevant authorities”.

The Police arrest follows a viral video which surfaced of a 60-year-old man with a disability tying his teenage son to a quad motorbike and dragging him along a tarred road at North Legon in Accra.

Report suggest the teenager reportedly fell onto the tarred road and was dragged for several minutes before some residents intervened and stopped the suspect.

The 16-year-old sustained injuries and was rushed to the hospital for treatment.

In a viral video shared by SIKAOFFICIAL, read, “A middle-aged person with a disability has been apprehended by concerned residents and handed over to police authorities at North Legon after tying his six-year-old stepson to a quad bike and dragging him along the ground.

The disturbing incident, triggered by repeated allegations that the child had been breaking into neighbouring homes to swim in their pools and steal metal items for sale as scrap, has left the boy with severe bodily injuries.

In a video clip taken during preliminary questioning by residents, the suspect admitted to the act, stating that persistent complaints from residents regarding the child’s conduct compelled him to take such action”.
