The late Gamal was born in Accra in 1958 to Kwame Nkrumah and his Egyptian wife, Fathia Nkrumah. He later established himself as a journalist, spending a significant part of his career in Egypt.

Gamal Gorkeh Nkrumah served as a journalist and editor at Al-Ahram Weekly, an English-language publication of Egypt’s Al-Ahram press organisation, for more than 15 years. His reporting and commentary covered international affairs, with particular attention to African politics, global developments and the continent’s position in international relations.

He was a committed Pan-Africanist; Gamal frequently explored issues surrounding African unity and the political ideas associated with his father’s legacy.

He pursued his higher education at the School of Oriental and African Studies (SOAS) in London, where he obtained a doctorate in political science, according to biographical accounts.

Gamal was a sibling of Ghanaian politician Samia Nkrumah, a former Member of Parliament for Jomoro and former chairperson of the Convention People’s Party (CPP). His younger brother, Sekou Nkrumah, is a writer and political activist based in Ghana.

His career in Egyptian journalism reflected the historical ties between Ghana and Egypt, as well as his engagement with political and social developments across Africa and the Middle East.

Meanwhile, further details regarding his reported death and funeral arrangements were not immediately available.
