A letter from the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) inviting Manhyia South MP Nana Agyei Baffour Awuah in February has surfaced following the intense public scrutiny over their attempts to arrest the MP on Wednesday, September 23, 2026.
In the said letter, written by its Executive Director, Raymond Archer, to MP Baffour Awuah, EOCO acknowledged a supposed letter by the MP which indicated that his confidential letter of invitation had been forwarded to the Clerk of Parliament.
The EOCO boss explained that the invitation was in relation to Baffour Awuah’s private work as a lawyer and there was no need for the involvement of Parliament in the matter.
The letter stated, “We acknowledge receipt of your letter dated 13th February 2026 on the above subject indicating that our confidential letter of invitation has been forwarded to the Clerk of Parliament for his advice.
“Our letter of invitation dated February 10, 2026, referenced E9/92/162/V.3/114, was addressed to the Senior Partner and in his capacity as the Senior Partner. (Copy attached). Therefore, the Office disagrees with forwarding an official letter specifically addressed to a designated officer of a law firm to Parliament,” part of the letter read.
The letter concludes, “Please take note that any correspondence from the Clerk of Parliament on this matter will not be recognised since the Office is not aware of any established protocol or law which prevents the said person from honouring a lawful invitation. Also note that failure to honour this invitation may leave us with no choice than to compel him to appear before the Office. Counting on your cooperation.”
The letter has surfaced after the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) disclosed that Manhyia South Member of Parliament, Nana Agyei Baffour Awuah, ignored two invitations issued in February 2026 to assist with an ongoing investigation.
According to EOCO, its invitations were not honoured, prompting the Office to take steps to secure the MP’s attendance in accordance with the law.
EOCO revealed that its officers were acting in the lawful discharge of their responsibilities when they attempted to arrest the MP in connection with the investigation.
In a press statement stated, “The Office had previously invited Hon. Baffour Awuah to assist with the investigation on two occasions in February 2026. The invitations were not honoured”.
EOCO explained that the attempted arrest was one of the lawful steps it had taken to secure his attendance after the earlier invitations were not honoured.
According to EOCO, they have identified two persons who allegedly intervened to facilitate the MP’s departure from the scene and are assessing their conduct for possible further action.
EOCO maintained that being a member of Parliament does not by itself bring an investigation to an end or place an individual beyond the reach of the law.
They further disclosed that the investigation remains active and that it will review the circumstances surrounding the incident, including available video evidence, before determining its next steps.
