John Boadu, an aspiring NPP National Chairman, has made a shocking comment over the continued detention of Manhyia South MP Nana Agyei Baffour Awuah at the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO).
According to John Boadu, he does not expect the member of parliament to die in custody, but adds that his death there would be acceptable to “us”.
John Boadu made these shocking remarks after arriving at the EOCO office at about 9:30 pm on Thursday, October 1, accompanied by Farouk Aliu Mahama, a former Yendi MP.
The former NPP General Secretary is quoted by JoyNews as saying, “I don’t think he’ll die there. Even if he dies there, that’s okay for us because…”.
John Boadu’s comment comes hours after Baffour Awuah voluntarily reported to the agency to assist with an investigation into transactions involving SIC Life Savings and Loans, following an Accra High Court warrant authorising his arrest.
Meanwhile, Samuel Atta Akyea, a Lawyer for Nana Agyei Baffour Awuah, has slammed the continued detention of his client by the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO).
Atta Akyea questioned the manner in which the legislator is being treated in connection with an ongoing investigation into transactions involving SIC Life Savings and Loans.
According to Atta Akyea, the MP voluntarily reported to the agency earlier in the day to assist with investigations after an Accra High Court issued a warrant for his arrest. He was subsequently taken into custody by EOCO, with investigators expected to continue questioning him on Friday.
Atta Akyea expressed his frustration after visiting the EOCO premises following Baffour Awuah’s arrest on Thursday, October 1, saying, “The power play is disgusting. If my client, who is a Member of Parliament, is treated this way, then who is safe?”
Meanwhile, reports suggest Nana Agyei Baffour Awuah has been granted a GH¢50 million bail with three sureties by the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO).
Also, EOCO has stated that after Baffour Awuah surrendered himself, he was subsequently placed under arrest and is currently cooperating with investigators as the investigative process proceeds.
