In a press release, the Bank of Ghana (BoG) stated, “The Bank of Ghana has taken note of a publication by MyJoyOnline dated 1 June 2026, titled *Bank of Ghana considering sale of new $260m headquarters – sources”.

The Bank of Ghana categorically states that this report is false and misleading.

The Bank is not considering, discussing, or planning the sale of its new headquarters. The facility, which was commissioned to support the Bank’s operations and enhance efficiency in the discharge of its statutory mandate, remains a critical asset of the Bank.

We urge the public and the media to disregard this publication. Unverified reports of this nature have the potential to undermine public confidence in Ghana’s financial system and create unnecessary market uncertainty.

The Bank of Ghana remains committed to transparency and will continue to engage stakeholders through its official channels. All official communication from the Bank is issued via the Bank’s website: bog.gou.gh, verified social media handles, press statements from the Communications Department, and signed statements from the Secretary of the Bank.

The media is encouraged to seek clarification from the Bank before publishing information relating to its operations”.

The construction of The Bank Square commenced in 2019 during the administration of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) government and was later commissioned by then-President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo in November 2024.

The facility replaced the Bank of Ghana’s former headquarters, which public officials claimed had become inadequate and posed safety concerns.

Also, the Bank of Ghana officially moved its operations to The Bank Square in September 2025.

Some Ghanaians reacting to the development stated, “Another egg thrown unto @JoyNewsOnTV/fm’s face.

We all love @joynews, but they’ve been since time memorial been doing the “dirty work” for the NPP in a subtle way, though; but of late, they seem to have come FULL FORCE.

It’s this full-force manner that is gradually “killing them”

A nerizen quizzed, “Will you send the government’s thugs to arrest the staff of Joynews, detain them and slap them with Draconian bail terms like you would have done if any ordinary citizen or NPP member was the culprit?”.

“You’ve even sold the exact gold reserves accumulated by the NPP just because the NPP’s name is attached to it. You can sell the building and even the Jubilee House, nobody cares. It’s always been known that the NDC is full of villagers”, one X user added.

A netizen also asserted, “I read that news with utter dismay. And people held diatribes at the BoG leadership. They should apologise in the same manner.

Thanks for amicably settling this fiendful reportàge from the Kokomlemle CNN (@JoyNewsOnTV). They are the merchants of this fake news.

We live to see if they hold dear professional and ethical journalism for which they will apologise for their unfortunate reportàge”.
