A massive fire has erupted at a rubber factory in Kwame Nkrumah Circle in Accra amid heavy rains and flooding.
According to reports, the Ghana National Fire Service is currently battling a serious fire outbreak at a rubber factory.
Alex King Nartey, the Assistant Division Officer One (ADO1) of the Public Relations Department of the GNFS, confirmed the incident.
He disclosed that four fire tenders have been deployed to the scene to contain the blaze.
Assistant Division Officer One (ADO1) added that the heavy downpour has significantly hampered firefighting efforts.
He further disclosed that personnel from Circle, who were responding to the Sakaman fire, were stranded at Kaneshie.
“When the team got to Sakaman, they needed reinforcement, but when the Circle team moved, they were stranded at Kaneshie,” he said.
Meanwhile, Muntaka Mohammed-Mubarak has issued a public advisory over the heavy rains that have flooded several parts of the country this morning.
The Interior Ministry statement read, “The Ministry of the Interior advises the general public to exercise extreme caution following the heavy rains and flooding experienced in several parts of the country this morning.
As a precautionary public safety measure, members of the public are advised to remain where they are until conditions improve. Those who are safely at home are urged to stay at home, while those who are at their workplaces or other safe locations should remain there until it is safe to travel. Unnecessary movement should be avoided.
Motorists and pedestrians are strongly advised not to attempt to drive or walk through flooded roads, bridges, or waterways, as floodwaters can rise rapidly and pose significant danger to life and property.
The Ghana Police Service, the Ghana National Fire Service, the Ghana Armed Forces, the National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO), and other emergency response services have been deployed to monitor the situation, assist affected persons, manage traffic, and undertake rescue operations where required.
Residents in flood-prone communities are advised to move to higher ground where it is safe to do so and promptly report emergencies or persons in distress to the nearest security agency or emergency response service.
The Ministry urges the public to remain calm, cooperate with the directives of security and emergency personnel, and rely only on official channels for information and updates.
Members of the public in need of emergency assistance or wishing to report persons in distress are encouraged to contact the following emergency services:
* Ghana Police Service: 18555 or 112
* Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS): 192
* National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO): 112
The safety and well-being of the public remain Government’s highest priority. The Ministry will continue to monitor the situation closely and provide further updates as necessary.
The Ministry extends its concern to all persons affected by the flooding and assures the public that every effort is being made to provide the necessary assistance and ensure public safety”.
