According to reports, they were reportedly shot dead on Friday, October 30, 2026, during a confrontation at their residence involving a suspect identified as Samuel Christopher Osei Anto.

In a statement issued on Friday, the Accra Regional Police Command said preliminary investigations pointed to a financial disagreement between George Atubiga and the suspect, arising from an alleged GH¢500,000 loan that had not been repaid.

Police accounts indicate that the suspect visited the victims’ residence on the morning of the incident, accompanied by a woman identified as Beatrice Mumuni, to demand repayment of the money.

The visit reportedly resulted in an altercation, during which the suspect allegedly opened fire, killing George and his niece, Irene.

The two victims were subsequently taken to a hospital, where a medical officer pronounced them dead.

Their remains have since been transferred to the Police Hospital Mortuary for preservation and autopsy.

Meanwhile, the Baatsona Divisional Police Command has taken up investigations into the double killing, while the Accra Regional Police Command says it is pursuing efforts to arrest the suspect.

Police have also appealed to members of the public who may have information that could assist the investigation to come forward.
