Henry Nana Boakye, the New Patriotic Party (NPP) National Organiser, has clarified his earlier comments about an alleged drug laboratory in Ghana.
According to Henry Nana Boakye, the volume of narcotics busts linked to Ghana in recent times suggests the country could have a depot or hub.
Nana B explained that his comments were not based on knowledge of the exact location of any drug laboratory.
He argued that the quantities of narcotics seized in different operations were significant enough to raise questions about whether Ghana could be serving as more than just a transit point.
Speaking on Adom FM’s Dwaso Nsem on Wednesday, September 30, 2026, Nana Boakye stated, “Who will reveal the exact location of a drug lab to you? By telling you it is in Greater Accra or this place when it is an illegality?”
“Just look at what was seized in France; it is about 80 bags of cement. I have listened to a lot of experts,” he said.
“Look at the Antwerp drug ranking. Number 5: Are we not worried?” he asked.
“This means that for you to be number 5, it is like there is a depot because the quantum is not small,” he said.
Nana B further stressed that such a depot could be anywhere, including an ordinary house, making it difficult to publicly identify its exact location.
“This is not just a transit point,” he added.
Meanwhile, Alexander Afenyo-Markin, the Minority Leader, has defended the NPP’s position of Ghana having a drug lab for cocaine-related activities.
The minority leader shockingly claimed the comment was metaphorical and intended to provide context to concerns raised by government officials.
According to Afenyo-Markin, the NPP claim should not be described as a claim requiring him to provide evidence of Ghana being a cocaine hub.
He stressed that the comment was based on concerns over cocaine allegedly passing through Ghana’s borders and statements attributed to government officials about possible official involvement.
Speaking in an interview on Adom TV’s Badwam, Mr Afenyo-Markin stated, “It is not a matter of evidence. The statement was what I will call metaphorical; it was a metaphor”.
“If you are allowing your corridors to be flooded with cocaine and every now and then there are arrests, cocaine passes through your borders without any proper checks, when your own Cabinet Minister comes to say that, one, there are government officials involved, and two, the foreign partners don’t trust Ghana because they feel that our system is compromised,” he added.
“What you are telling us is that you have created a lab for a cocaine business to drive,” he noted.
Afenyo-Markin further claimed that describing Ghana as a “hub” was meant to illustrate how the country could become a transhipment point.
“So the language used was a metaphor and basically situating what we find out ourselves in a certain context. If you allow your corridors to be used and it gets out of control, obviously you are creating a hub for that business to be processed,” he added.
