Popular Ghanaian businessman and founder of the Kessben Group, Stephen Kwabena Boateng, commonly known as Kwabena Kesse or Kessben, has died at the age of 68.
Reports suggest Stephen Kwabena Boateng died after a period of illness on Wednesday, August 19, 2026, sending shockwaves across the Ashanti Region.
The late Kessben was a prominent entrepreneur and philanthropist who built a diverse business empire spanning media, education, hospitality, transport and financial services.
Kessben also served as a member of the National Peace Council from 2004 to 2010.
He was born on September 12, 1957, and grew up in North Suntreso in Kumasi and spent more than three decades building and managing his businesses.
The Kessben Group, which he founded, operated several businesses, including Kessben Travel and Tours, Kessben Driving School, Kessben Computer School, Kessben Shipping and Forwarding Ltd., Fosua Hotel and Conference Centre, Kessben University College, Kessben Consult and the Kessben Foundation.
Also, his business interests extended into the media industry through Kessben FM Limited, the company under which Kessben FM, Kessben TV and Aseda TV were registered.
The late Kessben also held majority shares in Multi Credit Savings and Loans Ltd.
He was also known for his philanthropic activities and contributions to community development.
Meanwhile, the Kessben Group of Companies has officially announced the death of its founder, President and Chief Executive Officer, Lawyer Stephen Boateng, popularly known as Kwabena Kesse or Kessben.
In a statement issued by the management of the Kessben Group on Thursday, August 20, 2026, the business magnate passed away on Wednesday, August 19, 2026.
Kessben Group of Companies disclosed that further details will be provided on the date for the one-week observation, and final funeral rites would be announced in due course.
The statement disclosed that members of the public will have the opportunity to pay their respects through a book of condolence, which will be opened at Kessben’s residence in Denyame, Kumasi, on Friday, August 21, 2026.
