Ghanaian Man jailed 23 years in the UK for multiple rape

A Ghanaian man has been sentenced to 23 years in prison in the United Kingdom for multiple rape offences.

The Ghanaian man has been identified as Amponsah Thompson, a 29-year-old Ghanaian.

Reports suggested the Ghanaian man operated by posing as a taxi driver to target vulnerable young women.

In court, prosecutors told the court that he lured teenage victims into his vehicle after nights out, subjecting them to a series of sexual assaults.

Amponsah Thompson has also been placed on the UK’s sex offenders register for life.

The court was told he showed no regard for consent or boundaries in carrying out the attacks.

Reports suggest that, in addition to his 23-year custodial sentence, a  further eight years on license have been imposed on him, which means he will be under strict supervision following his release.

The State News sharing the news on X wrote, “Amponsah Thompson, 29, has been sentenced to 23 years in the United Kingdom after being convicted of multiple rape offences involving at least three victims.

He reportedly prowled the streets of Liverpool at night in a white Mercedes, posing as a taxi driver to target vulnerable young women. He is said to have lured teenage victims into his car after nights out and carried out a series of sexual assaults, with the court hearing he showed no regard for consent or boundaries.

The court also imposed an additional eight years on the licence, and he has been placed on the sex offenders register for life”.

The news has caused a stir on social media with netizens saying, “and our people here are trying to ask for reparations, while those abroad are already making it clear why the leaders shouldn’t buy into the idea of their reparations”.

A netizen added, “What a disgrace he is to my beloved country. You had all the resources to do well for yourself, but chose this disgusting life. He should have been jailed for life even. What a stupid guy”.

One X user added, “Unimaginable. Ghanaro man relocated to a country with an abundance of resources and wealth, but he chooses to commit crime, sexual assault at that? Foolish boy, jail term well deserved”.

“Go and work so as to raise your standard of living and that of your family; you chose to go and enter unauthorised holes’, a netizen added.

In other news, Stephen Akuoko, a 62-year-old businessman based in the United Kingdom, has been jailed for two years.

The UK-based Ghanaian was jailed for breaching food hygiene regulations and was banned for five years from operating any food business.

Stephen Akuoko was further fined by the court at a cost of £2,500.

Reports suggest that Akuoko, who supplies ready meals to supermarkets and corner shops, was found storing mackerel in his bathroom, both in the bathtub and on the floor next to the toilet at his flat.

The Telegraph, in a publication, detailed that Stephen Akuoko has been operating in Watford, Hertfordshire, under the name Tribal Foods for more than three years.

According to reports, Akuoko had been under investigation by the council’s environmental health team and was caught red-handed when Firefighters responding to a fire outbreak after a work he was using burst into flames, discovering large quantities of fish, including some stored on the bathroom floor near the toilet.

Akuoko pleaded guilty to two food safety offences at St Albans Magistrates’ Court on February 11, 2026 and was later sentenced at St Albans Crown Court on Thursday, April 2, 2026.

Judge Francis Sheridan, delivering his judgment, stated, “Your little business got bigger than you could handle, and you resorted to frankly disgusting practices …fish on the floor of the bathroom, fish in the bathtub and then you cooked them and sold them.

“You must realise that food poisoning can have very serious consequences, even death, and if that had happened, you would be facing manslaughter charges.”
