Ing Francis Addai-Nimo, a former Asante Mampong Member of Parliament and two-time New Patriotic Party (NPP) presidential flagbearer aspirant, has revealed that he was allegedly threatened by Hackman Owusu-Agyemang ahead of the party’s presidential primaries in 2023.

According to Addai-Nimo, Hackman Owusu-Agyemang, who is now chairman of the NPP’s Council of Elders, asked him to withdraw from the NPP presidential race or risk facing the same treatment he allegedly experienced under former President Akufo-Addo.

Speaking in an interview on Neat FM, Addai-Nimo recounted how Hackman allegedly contacted him and warned him to step down from the race.

He stated, “When the numbers were reduced for us to contest the election, Hackman called me and told me to step down, or he would let Bawumia do the same thing Akufo-Addo did to me. So, I didn’t say anything and went ahead to contest the election”.

According to  Addai-Nimo, the decision to contest was intended to demonstrate to the party that, despite not benefiting from government, he still enjoyed the support and loyalty of some party members.

Addai-Nimo revealed that although he participated in the NPP presidential primaries, he did not campaign because he already knew the likely outcome of the election.

He alleged that Hackman’s alleged threat could be interpreted as jealousy or a lack of confidence in his political capacity.

It will be recalled that Addai-Nimo contested the NPP presidential primaries in 2023 but lost to Dr Mahamudu Bawumia.

In other news, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, the leader and flagbearer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), has called for all factions that emerged during the party’s internal elections to dissolve and unite as one camp ahead of the 2028 elections.

The NPP flagbearer stressed that the internal elections were over, with focus now shifting to rebuilding the party and preparing for the next national election.

According to Dr Bawumia, unity would be critical to the party’s efforts to regain power, urging all members and supporters to put their differences behind them and work together.

Speaking after the swearing-in of the newly elected national executives of the party on October 4, Dr Bawumia stated, “Elections are over. All the camps will dissolve, and let us have one NPP camp and go and win 2028”.

“Let us all understand that winning 2028 is about unity. Unity in this party will give us victory. Let us come together to work,” he said.

He further encouraged candidates who lost national executive elections not to see themselves as defeated.

Bawumia stated, “ You did not lose. The NPP won”.

“There is no time to waste. Day one, this week, by the grace of God, we should all meet and begin the process of getting to the 2028 election,” he said.

“We must work harder. And let us all start this week by meeting and putting our strategies together to capture power in 2028,” he said.
