Professor Smart Sarpong, the Director of Research and Innovation at Kumasi Technical University, has named some sector ministers under President John Dramani Mahama’s administration that he believes are underperforming.

According to Professor Smart Sarpong, these Ministers have failed to bring glory to the Mahama government after two years in their respective roles.

The professor expressed disappointment in the performance of the ministries, urging their respective ministers to improve their work to avoid becoming liabilities to the NDC ahead of the 2028 general elections.

Speaking in an interview on Peace FM’s Kokrokoo programme on October 15, 2026, Professor Sarpong stated, “Kofi Adams needs to work because, over the last two years, the African Athletics Championships have been a mess. The Black Stars are not doing well under your tenure, and there is also this visa scandal. As the sector minister, he needs to step up. The Sports Ministry is a disgrace to the government”.

He also criticised the Ministry of Education, citing challenges within the sector and drawing on his experience working under the ministry.

He further added, “When you look at the Education Ministry, the sector is actually in chaos because I work under this ministry. So, the Education Ministry has also not brought any glory to the government”.

Professor Sarpong further described the Ministry of Tourism, Culture and Creative Arts as a disappointment, arguing that it had also failed to enhance the government’s standing.

“Tourism, Creative Arts and Culture is also a disgrace to the government,” he remarked.

The Ministry of Transport, led by Joseph Bukari Nikpe, was another institution he singled out for criticism. He also raised concerns about the Ministry of the Interior, citing issues including cocaine-related matters.

“Then the Transport Ministry is the same, and the Interior Ministry too. Today, there is cocaine and other matters. So, they have just two more years to correct things; otherwise, that could cost them,” he cautioned.

Professor Sarpong further stressed that the ministers responsible for these five ministries must intensify their efforts to address the challenges within their respective sectors.

In related news, President John Dramani Mahama has praised the Minister for Foreign Affairs, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa.

Mahama described Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa as one of the hardest-working members of his government.

According to John Mahama, the recognition he has received internationally is due to Ablakwa’s work.

President Mahama credited Ablakwa for playing a key role in advancing Ghana’s interests on the international stage.

Mahama disclosed that Ablakwa undertook extensive diplomatic engagements that contributed to the adoption of the United Nations resolution on reparations, which was championed by Ghana some months ago.

Speaking during his Resetting Ghana Tour of the Volta Region on Thursday, July 16, Ablakwa stated, “Your Member of Parliament, our hardworking Minister of Foreign Affairs, indeed, I must tell you that he is among my hardest-working ministers. Every credit that I have attained on the international scene, it is he that has done the legwork”.

Mahama commended Ablakwa’s commitment and behind-the-scenes efforts, saying much of the recognition he has received internationally is due to Ablakwa’s work.

“The UN Resolution on Reparations, it is he who did the travelling to convince all the 123 countries to vote for us,” President Mahama said.
