An irate, unpaid nurse has tagged Ghana’s Health Minister Kwabena Mintah Akandoh a drama king.

According to the irate nurse, the Health Minister came to them, faking tears to deceive them.

She highlighted that Mintah Akandoh must collaborate with Kumawood stars Lilwin and Agya Koo to produce a masterpiece for Ghanaians.

Speaking after the Health Minister addressed the unpaid nurses, she stated, “The unpaid nurse stated, “You can see that the minister was doing drama in school. Kwabena Mintah Akandoh is a drama king, he can act in a movie if we collaborate with him and Lilwin and Agya Koo, he will give us a very masterpiece that will blow.

Did you see what he did here? Look at his antics as if he were crying and sad; he is just deceiving us; he is a politician”.

She added, “If for 10 months they have not paid, you won’t go home. When I did my NSS, I was never paid. Now that they have posted me for 10 months, I have not been paid”.

However, the health minister has assured the last batch of unpaid nurses that their outstanding salaries will soon be settled.

The minister, in a statement sympathy for the affected health workers.

He cited that the ministry received financial clearance in August 2024 to recruit about 13,500 nurses, but the clearance expired in December of the same year, leaving many newly posted nurses without salary provisions.

“Government is adopting every pragmatic approach to deal with challenges of this nature in the health sector”, he stated.

Meanwhile, Thomas Ampem Nyarko, the deputy finance minister, has told the Nurses and midwives that their salary arrears will be captured in the next budget.

He expressed gratitude to the nurses and midwives for their service and apologised for the delay.

Speaking to the Nurses and midwives who hit the street demanding their salary arrears, Thomas Ampem Nyarko stated, “The message I give them is what I’m giving to you: that your issue is being addressed. We have inherited numerous legacy challenges, and we are working diligently to address them all.

In the next month or so, the Finance Minister will be in Parliament to present a new budget. Issues of health workers who have not been paid, not just you, there are even some doctors and others, are seriously being considered, and you are going to receive your salary,” he stated.

He further added, “We appreciate the work that you do for Ghana, and I’m sorry for those of you who are not even well, but have had to walk all the way here to present this petition. It will be given the needed urgent attention, as you have stated, and you’ll hear back from us”.
