A two-year-old girl has died tragically in a house fire at Cantonments in Accra.
According to reports, the two-year-old girl died after being trapped.
Reports disclosed that the fire broke out at a residence near Susanna Lodge on Sunday, September 20, with the child inside the house at the time.
According to the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS), the girl was found dead at the scene.
Alex King Nartey, the Assistant Divisional Officer of the GNFS, confirmed the incident in a Facebook post.
The two-year-old’s remains have since been handed over to the Cantonments Police for the necessary procedures.
Meanwhile, the cause of the fire has not yet been disclosed.
In other news, Mr Christian Tetteh Yohuno, the Inspector-General of Police (IGP), has promoted Inspector Hance Atubra of the Tarkwa Divisional Police Headquarters to the rank of Chief Inspector.
The IGP promoted the officer in recognition of his bravery during a fire outbreak at Aboso in the Western Region.
His promotion follows Inspector Atubra’s intervention during the fire, which broke out at the Aboso Main Lorry Station on Wednesday, August 26, 2026.
The fire engulfed a number of shops at the station, putting people within the affected area at risk; however, Inspector Atubra, who was reportedly the first police officer to arrive at the scene, immediately moved to assist people trapped in the area.
Inspector Atubra’s actions attracted commendation from people who witnessed the incident and subsequently led to a recommendation for his promotion.

The fire outbreak occurred on 26th August 2026, when some shops at the Aboso Main Lorry Station were engulfed in flames, resulting in damage to properties.
Inspector Atubra, who was the first Police officer to arrive at the scene, immediately took action to assist people trapped in the affected area and helped to evacuate the victims to safety.
His actions were highly commended by people who witnessed the incident, leading to a recommendation for his promotion in recognition of his courage, quick response and efforts to save life and property.
The promotion underscores the Police Administration’s commitment to recognising and rewarding officers who demonstrate exceptional courage, dedication and commitment to duty”.
