Stephanie Baan, the National Service personnel (NSS) at GRIDCo, who was recommended for immediate employment by President John Mahama for her active role in restoring power during the recent power outage, has shared her story.

According to Stephanie Baan, she was spotted by the Energy Minister, who recommended me to the President.

She disclosed that the Energy Minister came to the yard one evening around 10 p.m. and found me in the trench pulling out armoured cables, and was impressed.

Speaking in a viral video shared on X, Stephanie Baan, the National Service personnel at GRIDCo, stated, “I was spotted by the Energy Minister, who recommended me to the President, and that is how my beautiful story started.

“We’ve been working under pressure to restore power to the nation. What actually brought me into the spotlight was when the Energy Minister came to the yard one evening for a routine inspection. He found me deep in the trench pulling out cables, and he was very impressed.

She further narrated, “It was late in the night, around 10 PM, and what made him even more impressed was that I was a National Service personnel. That’s how he recommended me to His Excellency”.

“We were all working hands-on, my team, fellow service personnel, engineers, everyone was contributing to restoring power for the nation”.

“I was overwhelmed; I wasn’t expecting it. I’m grateful to God. I see it as a favour because I can’t explain it; it was just perfect timing. I’m also grateful to the Energy Minister for recognising my efforts and bringing my name to the spotlight,” she added.
