Dr Stephen Amoah, the Member of Parliament for the Nhyiaeso Constituency commonly known as Sticka, has warned the governing National Democratic Congress (NDC) over the recent arrest of NPP members.
According to Dr Stephen Amoah, if he commits an offence and he is arrested, he has no problem with that, but if he is arrested without committing any offence, he would sack every NDC member from his constituency.
Speaking during a panel discussion on OwiaTV on October 3, 2026, Stephen Amoah stated, “For me, sitting here, if the NDC wants, they should arrest me. If I am arrested after committing an offence, I am okay. But if I don’t commit any offence and I am arrested, after my release, Ghanaians will see what will happen.
“In my constituency, every NDC member there will leave the place. I swear by the God I serve, if you arrest me for no offence,” he said.
Dr Stephen Amoah’s comments come on the heels of several arrests involving individuals affiliated with the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP).
Also, Alexander Afenyo-Markin, the Minority Leader in Parliament, has alleged that some New Patriotic Party (NPP) Members of Parliament are facing threats.
According to Afenyo-Markin, whenever some NPP MPs criticise the John Dramani Mahama-led government, they are threatened.
The Minority leader disclosed that some of his colleagues have been invited for questioning and subjected to investigations after speaking out against the government.
Speaking on Badwam on Adom TV, Afenyo-Markin stated, “Anytime we criticise the NDC even in Parliament, MPs are threatened, and it is me telling you this: there are times that some of my colleagues are afraid to speak up because of these things. They send me a message that they do not want to speak up on the Floor because of this”.
Afenyo-Markin further claimed that some NPP MPs have been invited for questioning and kept for several hours because they criticised the government.
“They will invite such MPs, and they can spend close to 7 hours at BNI, and they won’t even interrogate you, but they will intentionally invite you”, he added.
The Minority leader also labelled the Mahama-led NDC government as becoming intolerant of criticisms, arguing that MPs have the right to express their views.
Meanwhile, Afia Pokua, popularly known as Vim Lady, a Ghanaian media personality, has said the John Mahama government has made it so obvious there is a witch-hunt against opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) members.
Vim Lady argued that the ongoing investigation into Manhyia South Member of Parliament, Nana Agyei Baffour Awuah, by EOCO clearly shows there is a political witch-hunt.
According to Afia Pokua, the activities of the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) are becoming a big embarrassment to Ghana.
She questioned the way in which EOCO is handling the investigation, stressing that the development could set a worrying precedent for future governments, warning that a change in government could result in similar actions being taken against political opponents.
Afia Pokua stressed that EOCO’s activities are giving the impression that members of the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) are being deliberately witch-hunted.
In a video shared on TikTok, Afia Pokua stated, “The rate that the EOCO is going, it is becoming a big embarrassment to Ghana, and it is becoming so obvious that we have something to hide”.
“And I am pained that if the NPP comes to power, they will do worse because the government has made it so obvious that there is a witch-hunting going on. It is becoming so obvious that the government is witch-hunting NPP people,” she added.
Afia Pokua’s comments come on the heels of attention surrounding EOCO’s investigation into Baffour Awuah, a senior partner of the law firm Sarkodie, Baffour Awuah and Partners.
