Richard Ahiagbah, the Director of Communications for the New Patriotic Party (NPP), has told embattled former finance minister Ken Ofori-Atta not to return to Ghana.

According to Richard Ahiagbah, if he were Ken Ofori-Atta, he would take measures to ensure he never returns to Ghana.

Richard Ahiagbah, speaking to JoyPrime, is quoted as saying, “If I were Ken, I would take extreme measures not to return to Ghana.

He further added, “The truth is Ken has taken steps. His visa will expire in February this year, but then he has taken proactive steps of renewing it. Why was he arrested when he had a valid visa until February 14?”

“I know that Ken is in the process of adjusting his status to change from a visa requirement to, perhaps, becoming a permanent resident there. That process is also underway,” he said.

“Even if I can conjecture anything, it’ll be that perhaps they have seen a different documentation,” he added.

Some Ghanaians reacting to Richard Ahiagbah’s remarks stated, “Saving this for the future, should they come begging us to vote for them because we know they will steal our money and at the end of their term run away and not come back. …!!!”

“If Ghanaians make the mistake of voting these people who don’t support accountability into office again herrh, Humm, we will be doomed for the second time”, another X user added.

An X user added, “Well, what more can one say? I feel like @Raahiagbah will lose his position in their next party executive elections, even if his role is by appointment, he won’t be appointed again! You’d prefer to be detained than come to Ghana, where you can sleep peacefully?”

“We should continue to remind ourselves of the importance of completing the head injury recovery plan.  This guy never did after his accident.

You can go back to his utterances after his accidents.  Nkwaseakeka nkoaa”, a netizen added.

Additionally, one more Ghanaian wrote, “And certain people calling themselves Ghanaians still want NPP to come to power in this country….. having a whole comm director of a party say this shows the party has metamorphosed into a mafia gang and cartel. Whatever they did was deliberate, and they will still do it again”.

Meanwhile, Victor Smith, Ghana’s High Commissioner to the United States, has revealed that the US Immigration and Customs Enforcement confirmed Ken Ofori-Atta was medically fit to be detained.

According to Victor Smith, ICE had medical personnel assess Mr Ofori-Atta to show that he was fit to be detained.

Speaking on Joy News’ PM Express, Ghana’s US Envoy explained, “Yes, the ICE people confirm that he was all right. Initially, they had medical people to determine whether he was fit to be held in the detention centre, and they were convinced and were assured that he was okay”.

“He was on medication, but he wasn’t seeing any doctor at the time, and he had his medication, so he could be put in the detention centre. They had caused him to be assessed by the medical personnel, not themselves,” he said.

“If he had any serious medical conditions, maybe they would have referred him to a medical facility outside the detention centre,” he added.
