Rashid Tanko-Computer, the Deputy Director of Elections and IT for the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC), has warned the opposition NPP politicians and social media users that criticism is allowed but not insults.

The NDC man highlighted that the members of the NDC must know the difference between constructive criticism and abusive attacks.

According to Rashid Tanko-Computer, when criticism escalates to insults, one would not be allowed to sleep in their house.

Speaking on JoyNews’ The Pulse on Tuesday, May 19, 2026, Rashid Tanko-Computer stressed that while democracy encourages criticism and accountability, insults and threats against leaders could undermine the country’s democratic system.

“If you make reckless statements, you should not be allowed to sleep in your house,” he stated.

“Criticism is not insult… when you graduate from criticism to insults, to threatening, to attacking our democracy, then it becomes a different matter,” he explained.

According to Rashid Tanko-Computer, the NDC government remains open to criticism from the opposition and the public, when such criticism is expressed respectfully.

“If you criticise the government in the form of an insult, we will take it on board,” he added.

Rashid Computer also highlighted that the National Organiser of the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP), Nana B, regularly criticises the government without facing arrest.

“Nana B has been criticising us. He gave a whole press conference, and he’s talking a lot about the government. Has anybody picked him up? Has he been picked up? He says a lot of things about our government,” he said.

“That is his view. He’s coming from a capitalist trope. We are social democrats, so he doesn’t understand or respect some of our policies. That is to him,” he stated.

Tanko-Computer added, “What we are seeing from some of the young guys in NPP, they think that today if you want to be popular, just go on TikTok, go to social media, insult, say all manner of things, start running down the leadership of this country, and then people will start hailing you”.

Meanwhile, Salam Mustapha, the National Youth Organiser of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), has warned the John Mahama-led government that they will weaponise our support base and make this country extremely ungovernable.

According to Salam Mustapha, if the nonsense doesn’t stop, the NPP will weaponise their support base and make this country extremely ungovernable for them.

He made comments when the NPP paid a courtesy visit to the Dean of the Diplomatic Corps.

Salam Mustapha accused the Mahama government of targeting members of the opposition party.

Speaking to journalists on Tuesday, May 19, 2026, Salam Mustapha warned, “If this nonsense doesn’t stop, we will weaponise our support base and make this country extremely ungovernable for them”.

“We are sending this warning and caution to the government to release Abronye; otherwise, should anything happen to Abronye in custody, you’ll have us to contend with,” he added.

“And this constant harassment and intimidation of NPP people, if you people don’t stop it, we’ll make sure that we react in such a way that you will not be happy with us,” he stated.

“You have a country to govern, and we are here to support you and give you the best of advice from an opposition point of view. If you turn us into enemies, we will give you rebellion,” he said.
