Speaking in the resurfaced video shared on X, Ernest Owusu Bempeh boldly stated, “If you vote for the independent candidate, there will be a by-election in the next year. Asante Akyem, the people of Agogo, don’t go and drink (sic). I’m telling you that if you vote for the independent candidate, in less than three weeks or a year, you’re going to have a by-election in Asante Akyem”.

“We don’t want to go for a by-election. And I know what I’m talking about. Don’t gamble with this seat. If you want a by-election, vote for the independent candidate.”

He reiterated, “I know what I’m talking about. I’m saying that if you vote for the independent candidate, there will be a by-election in the next one year in Asante Akyem North.”

“You have seen that you’re surprised. Even if you’re a journalist, you are shocked. I want you to mark today’s date. I’m not being a prophet, but let them make the mistake of voting for the independent candidate.”

Meanwhile, sources familiar with the arrest of the Member of Parliament for Asante Akyem North have shared details concerning the arrest at the  Schiphol Airport.

Reports suggest that the Asante Akyem North MP was dramatically arrested by Dutch security officials at Schiphol Airport in Amsterdam shortly after a KLM flight from Accra landed in the Netherlands.

According to CitiNewsroom, “the lawmaker departed Kotoka International Airport in Accra on Saturday, May 9, aboard KLM Flight 590. The flight reportedly left Ghana through Gate C7 at about 10:10 p.m. and arrived at Schiphol Airport in Amsterdam at approximately 4:36 GMT on Sunday”.

The information gathered from sources detailed that the incident happened moments after the aircraft touched down at Gate F3 when passengers were prepared to disembark, the pilot announced that all passengers should remain seated for what was described as a security check.

Sources revealed that a team of Dutch security officials subsequently boarded the aircraft and proceeded directly to the Business Class section where the Asante Akyem North MP was seated with another senior government official travelling on the same flight.

The Dutch security officials reportedly identified the MP, read him his rights, and placed him in handcuffs before escorting him off the aircraft into a waiting security van.

Also, Elvis Adu-Ameyaw, the lawyer, the embattled Member of Parliament for Asante Akim North, has revealed there are not many details surrounding his client’s arrest.

According to the Asante Akyem North Lawyer, to the best of his knowledge, a bench warrant has been issued by the United States.

He further detailed that he cannot go into details surrounding the charges levelled against his client.

Speaking in an interview on Salt FM on May 14, 2026, Elvis Adu-Ameyaw, lawyer for the Asante Akyem North, stated, “For now, there are not many details regarding the reason for his arrest, but to the best of my knowledge, a bench warrant has been issued by the United States. Per my understanding, he is wanted in Illinois. However, regarding the detailed charges levelled against him, I cannot go into that.

“To the best of my knowledge, these proceedings can sometimes take up to a month. If, after everything, he is found guilty, then he will be extradited to the US. But if he is not found guilty, he will regain his freedom,” he said.
