Rockson-Nelson Dafeamekpor, the Majority Chief Whip, has once again called out the International Monetary Fund (IMF), accusing them of interfering in Ghana’s internal politics.
According to the Majority Chief Whip, the IMF is completely out of order and must be called to order.
Dafeamekpor accused the IMF of exceeding its mandate with its commentary on Ghana’s governance arrangements and also holding meetings with the opposition NPP.
He further urged the IMF to respect Ghana’s constitutional and legal frameworks governing the appointment and composition of SOE boards.
Speaking on Eyewitness News on Friday, September 11, Dafeamekpor stated, “The IMF has been out against the NDC for some time, and I think that it is time we call them to order. They are completely out of order,” he said.
“They are beginning to meddle in our internal politics, and I don’t think that, as the supranational organisation, that is what they’ve been brought here to do. In a lot of jurisdictions.
I would have demanded that the Country Director be removed or transferred because we have lost trust in him. And we know the meetings he is holding with the opposition. We know the discussions they’ve been holding; we know,” he disclosed.
Earlier in a post on X, Dafeamekpor called out the International Monetary Fund (IMF), questioning them about what exactly they want from the NDC government.
Rockson-Nelson Dafeamekpor accused the IMF of showing political bias against the National Democratic Congress (NDC) government over their latest assessment of governance in Ghana’s state-owned enterprises (SOEs).
In a post on X, Rockson-Nelson Dafeamekpor wrote, “1. So what exactly do these IMF Country Directors want from the NDC anytime we are in Govt?
2. I have observed rather disconcertingly, the alacrity with which the IMF criticises an NDC-Govt in respect of matters that they’ll actually facilitate for an NPP-Govt to implement.
3. Two quick major examples will suffice: Messrs Peter Mac Manu and Hackman Owusu Agyemang were Board Chairs of GPHA and Cocobod respectively under the Nana Akufo-Addo regime.
3. Obviously, the IMF didn’t know this and, of course, didn’t also the political colouration or rank of these men who led GPHA & Cocobod Boards at the time.
4. I wish to assure the IMF-Ghana Country officers that I can produce a full list of NPP Snr Ranks & MPs who served on every Board of every SOE within 2017 and 2024. I can also do so from 2001 to 2008.
5. Mr IMF Country Director, by your tainted GoldBod report a couple of weeks prior and your present report in question, tells me without doubt that you have descended into the local political arena of conflict and taken sides opposite to me.
6. You must never be trusted again as an independent and neutral supra-national financial institution.

Rockson-Nelson Dafeamekpor’s post comes on the heels of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) raising a red flag over political appointments to Ghana’s State-Owned Enterprises (SOEs) boards, citing specifically the Ghana Ports and Harbours Authority (GPHA) chairman Asiedu Nketia.
According to the IMF, the politicisation of board and executive appointments at State-Owned Enterprises (SOEs) could weaken corporate governance, accountability and effective oversight of the entities.
The IMF raised this concern in their report, titled “Advancing SOE Fiscal Risks Management, Financial Oversight, Governance, and Investment Implementation”, published in July 2026
