On 5th October, 2026, police received a complaint that the children allegedly left home for Islamic classes at about 8 am on Sunday, October 4, 2026, but did not return home, and efforts by community members to locate them proved unsuccessful until at about 5 am on Monday, October 5, when their bodies were discovered inside the boot of a black Hyundai Tucson with registration number AS 1770-14,

Police immediately proceeded to the scene where the said vehicle was found stuck in mud on a road leading to the area. Preliminary inspection revealed that the driver’s door and the rear passenger door behind the driver’s seat were open, while the other doors, including the boot, were locked.

Preliminary investigation indicates that the vehicle belongs to a personnel of the Ghana Immigration Service, who indicated that it had been stuck in the mud for the past five days. He has since been arrested and is being taken to Accra to assist the investigation.

The Inspector-General of Police has deployed a special team comprising homicide investigators, crime scene experts and intelligence officers to Tamale to support the Northern Regional Police Command with the investigation.

The command has secured the vehicle for further forensic examination.

The outcome of the autopsy and ongoing investigations is expected to provide further information on the circumstances surrounding the deaths.

Meanwhile, the Northern Region Police have disclosed that they are now treating the deaths of three children found in the trunk of a vehicle as a murder case after a preliminary autopsy indicated that they did not die of natural causes.

The three children have been identified as Dauda Abdul Aziz, 3, Saani Alsharaf, 5, and Dauda Fadilan, 7, and were found dead in the boot of a black Hyundai Tucson at Koblimahagu Zoo in Tamale.

Reports suggest the children had left home on Sunday to attend Islamic classes but failed to return.

Sources disclosed that preliminary findings from the autopsy indicate that the children may have been murdered.

A source familiar with the investigation stated, “The autopsy revealed they did not die a natural death.”

“There is a need for toxicological examination to be conducted to fully establish the facts,” the source added.
