Kwame Asare Obeng, popularly known as A-Plus, the Member of Parliament for Gomoa Central, has told the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) to investigate the Ghana Football Association (GFA) over its financial dealings.

The Gomoa Central MP questioned GFA’s performance despite the substantial financial support it receives from the government and international football organisations.

He highlighted Ghanaian musicians, including Shatta Wale, Sarkodie, Stonebwoy and Samini, who have achieved significant success in their respective careers without government fu support from international organisations.

According to A-Plus, the achievements of these musicians raise questions about the GFA’s ability to deliver results.

He further cited GFA’s disappointing record, scandals, alleged favouritism in Black Stars selections, questionable visa arrangements and concerns about financial mismanagement.

The Gomoa Central MP directly fired shots at GFA President Kurt Okraku, whom he described as a friend while questioning his leadership of the association.

In a Facebook post, Kwame A-Plus wrote, “Look at what Shatta Wale (Shatta Movement) and his Shatta Movement, as well as Sarkodie, have achieved this year without government funding or backing from international organisations. Stonebwoy and SAMINI are next in line to make their mark.

Now, contrast that with the Ghana Football Association (GFA), an institution that has enjoyed substantial financial support from the government and international football bodies. Yet, in my opinion, its legacy is increasingly defined by scandals, allegations of favouritism in Black Stars selections, questionable visa arrangements, concerns over financial mismanagement and, above all, repeated heartbreak for Ghanaian football fans.

Kurt, you are my friend, and I hold you in high regard. But tell me, how do you feel watching these individuals achieve remarkable success with limited institutional support while you and your organisation, despite the enormous resources at your disposal, continue to fail woefully?

You are not a useless man. Far from it! But in my view, you are presiding over an institution that has become painfully ineffective, practically useless and profoundly disappointing.

The Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) must urgently turn its attention to the GFA, subject its financial dealings to rigorous independent scrutiny and investigate any credible evidence of wrongdoing. The international investigations that shook FIFA should serve as a reminder that no football institution is above accountability.

Ghanaian football does not lack talent, passion or resources. What it desperately needs is transparency, responsible leadership and measurable results that justify the enormous public investment.

EOCO, ACT NOW!!”

Some netizens reacting to his post stated, “A Plus, sadly the painful truth is that our leadership knows about this, but they simply do not care. To God be the glory, one day the youth of this country will rise, and nobody will be able to stop us. Thank you”.

“The funny thing is, if they bring artistes like Shatta Wale, Sarkodie, and Stonebwoy to perform at the stadium before a football match, the fans will leave after the performance and won’t stay to watch the match”, a netizen added.

“They have done well…But do you also know football generates more money for the nation than these 4 musicians combined? Monies collected at the gates go to the organisers and musicians, but monies from football go to the ministry or NSA….of course something should be done about our football to revive it to improve patronage at stadium”, one Facebooker.

One last netizen added, “A Plus Inasmuch as we all expect our various league centres to be filled with fans, what these musicians are doing can’t be the yardstick. If they dare, Sarkodie and his colleagues should make it a point to be organising their events on a weekly basis for just 6 months to see if they can pull these crazy numbers weekly. Michael Okuley, I greet you, SNR”.
