The Manhyia South MP Nana Agyei Baffour Awuah has questioned whether the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) has the authority to regulate or determine professional fees charged by lawyers.
According to Nana Agyei Baffour Awuah, Ghanaians must read between the lines not to be misled.
Nana Agyei Baffour challenged EOCO’s authority to regulate lawyers’ fees, calling their allegations shifting propaganda.
In a post on X on Saturday, 26 September, he stated, “Read between the lines. Don’t be misled.
They said I refused to honour their invitation.
When that propaganda failed, they now claim that I charged unapproved professional fees.
But the question is: Is EOCO responsible for regulating or determining lawyers’ professional fees?”
Meanwhile, Nana Agyei Baffour Awuah has responded to allegations surrounding GH¢2.2 million in legal fees and the alleged sale of a property for GH¢24 million.
The Manhyia South MP denied claims that GH¢2.2 million out of a GH¢5 million amount was paid to him or his law firm, SBA and Partners, as legal fees.
According to Nana Agyei Baffour Awuah, the allegation is false and does not reflect any transaction involving him or his firm.
“It is not true that GH¢2.2 million was paid out of GH¢5 million to myself or SBA and Partners as legal fees,” he stated.
He also rejected allegations that he or SBA and Partners transferred money to the then Managing Director of SIC Life Savings and Loans.
“No money was transferred by myself or SBA and Partners to the MD of SIC Life Savings and Loans at the time as alleged,” Nana Agyei Baffour Awuah said in an interview on September 26, 2026.
The Manhyia South MP further denied claims concerning the alleged judicial sale of a property for GH¢24 million, describing the assertion as unfounded.
“There was no judicial sale of any property, much less a sale at the alleged undervalued amount of GH¢24,000,000,” he said.
He maintained that since no such sale took place, there was also no remittance of GH¢6 million from any purported buyer to him or SBA and Partners.
The development follows allegations made by Bernard Bediako, MP for Akwatia, who suggested EOCO was after Nana Agyei Baffour Awuah over GH¢2.2m legal fees, GH¢24m property sale not Ghana Jollof.
It will be recalled that earlier in the week, officers of the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) attempted to arrest the MP at the Accra High Court on Wednesday, September 23, 2026.
The viral video showed a confrontation at the forecourt of the Accra High Court after an Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) officer approached the Member of Parliament for Manhyia South, in an apparent attempt to arrest him.
The MP claimed that the attempt to arrest him was because he was representing his client in the Ghana Jollof case.
Nana Agyei Baffour Awuah told the woman to move from the front of his car, but she refused, which caused him to push her.
In the viral video shared on X, the situation escalated after the MP allegedly pushed the female EOCO officer away and demanded to see an arrest warrant.
“What shows that you are from EOCO?” the MP was heard asking the officer.
The officer reacted after the MP pushed her away, attempting to push the MP back, while some persons at the scene blocked her from stopping the MP from entering his vehicle.
Nana Agyei Baffour Awuah subsequently drove away from the scene. The EOCO officer was later seen getting into a white pickup vehicle and reportedly following the MP.
