Kennedy Agyapong, an NPP flagbearer aspirant, has caused a stir following his recent rants about minority tribes threatening and discriminating against the majority Akan tribe.
According to Kennedy Agyapong, it is only in Ghana that we allow the minority to threaten the majority.
Speaking to NPP delegates in Kyebi in the Eastern Region on Wednesday, November 12, 2025, Ken Agyapong stated, “I am surprised that we, the majority, sit down for the minority to discriminate against us. Tribal politics are going on, and it looks like you people have not seen it. The royals will soon become servants if we don’t change our attitude. I am telling you, and I’m not afraid”.
He boldly added, “Today I am standing in Nana Akufo-Addo’s hometown and speaking Twi to you. We are not afraid of anybody. In which country do you allow the minority to threaten the majority?
Only in Ghana. It is only in Ghana that we allow the minority to threaten the majority, and it is because we don’t love ourselves. Let your Akyem be of concern to you. If we don’t do that, they will take us for granted in Ghana”.
Kennedy Agyapong further warned the Akans in the party that they will soon end up becoming servants if they are not united.
According to Kennedy Agyapong, Akans must support their own, arguing that northern political actors within the NPP are uniting behind a single candidate, which could lead to Akans, whom he described as royals, becoming servants.
The former Assin Central lawmaker noted that there is a high level of disunity among the Akans groups within the NPP.
Ken Agyapong added, “Let me tell you something. My grandparent told me something — that what is good is what is your own”.
Let us be very careful because we are making a mistake. Some people are able to get together and say, ‘This is our brother.’ But when it gets to our turn, we are not able to unite. We shall remain servants if we don’t change our minds. If we remain disunited, we shall remain servants for long. I’m speaking Twi to you, and I am not afraid of anyone. I will speak my mind.
When you go to some places, they will say, ‘I would have supported you, but if I show my face, they will say I’ve betrayed my brother.’ But as for you, an Abuakwa person, have you not betrayed your brother? What you would not be happy with if it were done to Kweku, don’t do it to Kwesi, he added.
Also, Dr Bawumia has said that after serving the NPP for 17 years, how can anyone call him a stranger within the NPP?
Dr Bawumia cited that his roots within the NPP can be traced to the United Party (UP) and the Danquah-Dombo-Busia tradition.
Speaking to delegates and party faithful during his tour of the Oti Region, Dr Bawumia stated, “Today, some of my opponents say I am an outsider and a stranger, who does not deserve to lead the party because of where I come from.
This is dangerous, divisive and contrary to the diversity of our unifying tradition,” he stated.
He added, “Those who say this don’t understand our history. Our tradition is the Danquah-Dombo-Busia tradition, formed by all the main tribes across Ghana. This is the tradition of the NPP”.
“If Dr Bawumia, after 17 years of service to the party, is described as an outsider and stranger, how do we grow the party to attract new members from all parts of Ghana?” he asked.
Dr Bawumia further declared, “Any member from any part of the country can lead the party if you are capable. It does not matter where you are—Dagomba, Ga, Dangbe, Sefwi, Ewe, Dagarti, Wala, Bono, Asante, Akyem, Kwahu, Mamprusi, Kusasi, Konkomba, Fante, Frafra, Guan, Gonja, Sisala, Kasena, Kotokoli, Bimoba, or Chakosi.”
