Alhaji Ali Kabe, a member of the communication team of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), has boldly stated he disagrees with President John Mahama’s calls for the criminalisation of sex-for-jobs.

The NPP communicator argued that the ladies going to look for jobs are not 11-year-olds, adding that the act is between two adults.

According to the NPP man, anyone looking for a job is old enough to make their own decisions, asserting that it is a mutual agreement between two adults.

Alhaji Ali Kabe categorically stated that he does not support the criminalisation of sex-for-jobs practices.

Speaking on Accra-based HotFM‘s ‘Hot Morning Drive‘ show – hosted by Oman Nana, the NPP communicator stated, “The lady who is going to look for the job, is she an 11-year-old? It’s between two adults… He said he would give you the work in exchange for sex, and you agreed. For Christ’s sake!”

When asked whether he would advise his daughter to engage in such a practice, he stated, “I will advise my daughter not to do that, but she is old enough to decide on what is good for her.”

He further shockingly claimed that once the employer fulfils his part of the bargain, there is nothing wrong with the arrangement.

His comments come on the back of President John Dramani Mahama who had proposed the introduction of a new bill to address the growing issue of sex-for-jobs in Ghana.

Speaking during an engagement at Adweso in Koforidua on Saturday, May 3, on his two-day Resetting Ghana Tour of the Eastern Region, President John Mahama condemned the act.

John Mahama described the practice as unacceptable and called for strict legal action against offenders.

President John Mahama stated, “One of the worst things, and I think we should pass a bill to make it punishable, is that sometimes if the employer or the person responsible for employing is a male, they demand some romantic relationship before they give them jobs. It is unacceptable. It must stop”.

“We already have the Affirmative Action law, which we are trying to apply,” he said.

“We are going to work to make sure that we achieve the targets. It says that by the end of 2028, we should achieve 50-50 parity. It is a tough call, but we will work at it,” he added.

In other news, Joe Jackson, the Chief Executive Officer of Dalex Finance, has boldly admitted that the John Mahama administration has underperformed in terms of job creation.

According to Joe Jackson, over the past year and a half, the John Mahama-led government has failed to address Ghana’s youth unemployment.

Joe Jackson asserted that the government has underperformed in youth job creation after 16 months.

He highlighted that the NDC government’s pace and scale of employment generation for young people continue to fall short.

Speaking on the JoyBusiness Roundtable on Thursday, April 30, during a discussion, Joe Jackson explained, “If we talk about jobs, that is the weakest link. We are still not creating enough jobs for the young people of this country”.

“So for me, the question really is, what is done on transformation. Unless you are rich, you can’t help but say this government has achieved stabilisation,” he added.
